Will's life has gotten even more complicated than usual: His father is the devil, his step-father is a demon, his best friend is now a demon, and he's just survived the battle of the century against the devil. Now, he just wants to hole up with Natalie and come up with a plan to take care of the Dark Lord for good. However, he has now found a group of dangerous she-demons that are harder to fight than he has ever seen.

Will has defeated the dark lord once, but now he’s got even more to worry about. He’s lost his power rod, his best friend is a demon, and he’s now got Natalie and her twin sister Emily to protect.
As if this wasn’t bad enough, there is more coming Will’s way; first his mother ends up in a coma, then he finds out that unfortunately the dark lord is still alive (albeit in pie...more

Just as a disclaimer, I have not read The New Kid. This means I missed out on some of the finer details of the characters and their relationships, but this book refers to the events in the previous book enough that I have a decent idea of what happened.
The Rising is a bit entertaining but also a bit ridiculous. Will Hunter is like a teenage Bruce Wayne/Batman who made his fortune with a video game. He has a ridiculous number of different weapons. He has multiple high-end vehicles.

The Rising by Temple Mathews is the second book in the New Kid series. Will Hunter, the son of the Devi continues his quest to kill his father. The book is action-packed with betrayals, plus twists and turns in every chapter. I enjoyed the book overall but the end could have been better, I realize he was trying to have a cliff-hanger so there could be a third book, but it could have been less dark.
This book is about a character named Will, who is half demon half human because his father is the Dark Lord! (It means the devil). In this book Will fights to save human kind and his girlfriend Natalie by the Dark Lord's teen demons. Then he discovers a new brand of demons who are even deadlier than the teen demons...
If you like books with action, adventure, and romance. This is the book for you. Also if you want you should read the New Kid series.

This is the second book in a trilogy. Some of the boring stuff in this book sets up the final installment, but like in the first book, it reads more like notes for actors than a book. Emotions are fake and reactions are unrealistic. Because of the way the book is written, you think you're reading events that happen over weeks, but if you pay attention, this whole books spans about a week.
