I admit, the first time I read this book I gave it 4 stars. But after my re-read, I loved it so much that I had to change my rating to 5. Just an awesome book :)

"What if I told you I had a fantasy" ...

Opening line of this book, and opening line of my review. Yes you guessed it, my book fantasy stopped right here with the black dagger boys, and I am still on the biggest book roll ever with this series. The five star fun run hasn't stopped yet, and my prediction is that it may not ever.

LOVER REVEALED is quite the ride and a great addition to this series. Erotic, thrilling, with non stop action and revelations galore. Of course all the Brothers stories continue and their ongoing sub-plots will keep you completely absorbed.

Butch is feeling sorry for himself, drinking too much Scotch, longing for Marissa and wondering where he belongs. Forbidden to fight for the Vampire race that has adopted him he is beginning to feel worthless. Living in their house, wearing expensive designer suits and driving a flash car all paid for by the Brotherhood. He can't respect himself and is finding little comfort in his new lifestyle.

One evening after leaving the nightclub Zerosum Butch has a chance encounter with some Lessers and after saving a young Vampire is taken hostage. He is then tortured for the location of the Brotherhood and when he refuses to break, the Omega (Lessers Leader) places a piece of his evil self inside Butch. Then he is left for dead. The Omega's hope is that Butch will act as a homing device after the Brothers find him. Vishous rescues Butch in scenes very reminiscent of Zsadist going after Bella in Lover Awakened. (Bordering on obsessed) Then transports the half dead cop to Haver's medical clinic where Butch is placed in isolation due to the black body fluids he's spewing and the fact that he now smells like baby powder. At V's request Marissa comes to the clinic to help Butch recover and our love story begins.

Marissa is a sheltered, virginal, aristocrat who has never forgotten the cop and after a week together in isolation the two have fallen hopelessly in love. When Marissa needs to feed however there is a problem. She can't use Butch because his blood is weak and eventually she would kill him so she is forced to use another male (I won't tell you who.) This makes Butch crazy. Causing him to get drunk. Again. And this is the first of our couples many annoying break-ups and make-ups. Back at the mansion V and Butch grow even closer as V heals the evil within Butch. There are suggestions of feelings deeper than friendship here and they are explored beautifully. I think the innuendoes show the depth of their feelings and V's true loneliness. Anyways. Butch and Marisa get back together and have a lot of great sex while V searches for an explanation to Butch's bonding scent and how to make him into a true member of the BDB.

Marissa and Butch's continual conflict and angst annoyed me to a degree but this is such a great book that I was able to overlook it. There's just so much else going on too. The little snippets of Wrath, Phury, Rhage and Zsadist's lives are excellent. Rhevenge takes on a bigger role and John Mathew ups his training as he tries to come to terms with the loss of Wellsie and Tohr. Zsadist is an unexpected help here. There's the usual witty humour and fabulously erotic love scenes. And the ending is per usual JR Ward jaw-dropping awesome.

I can highly recommend this book however I would suggest reading this series in order to get the full affect of these sexy Black Dagger men

Vishous is up next in Lover Unbound and I am wondering who could possibly love this sexy yet nasty BDSM Brother? (less)

He found a sense of family and belonging, although he still felt different because he wasn't a vampire. I love the relationship between Butch and Vishous. I haven't read many romances between men, and this one isn't per se. But the bond between Butch and Vishous has different layers and elements, and one of them is a romantic/sexual one. Their relationship remained unconsummated, but they definitely have strong feelings for each other that will remain, the sexual moreso on Vishous' side. I was so glad that Butch had Vishous to love him and take care of him, and vice versa. More than anything, I am so glad that Butch has Marissa. I think they are a wonderful couple, my second favorite in this series. Butch never thought he deserved anything, but he got his princess in Marissa. Marissa is not perfect, but to Butch she is perfect. And the great thing is that Marissa needed to be loved and adored. She felt rejected by her people (the glymera) since Wrath did not love her and did not want her as his Shellan, and she felt she could not live up to their and her brother's expectations. She was slowly dying inside, until Butch came and his adoration gave her the acceptance she needed. I also loved how Marissa came into her own and became the strong woman she was meant to be so she believe in herself, and she could stand at Butch's side, not behind him or in front of him. I really could not put this book down and was on the emotional rollercoaster ride along with the characters. There are more moments of interaction between the Brothers and their Shellans that are touching, and you get to see how everyone is doing. There is also trouble brewing with the Lessers and things heat up, and Butch is intricately involved with this change in the War with the Lessers. We also get to see more of the intriguing and seductive Rhev. He is so yummy to me. I love how tender and solicitious he is to Marissa. If there was no Butch, I'd probably like Rhev and Marissa to be together. But since there is a Butch (Thank God), Marissa is his. There are so many scenes that I love, but one of my favorites is when Butch goes to be inducted into the Brotherhood and all the shellans are lined up in their dresses that represent their Hellrens, and there is Marissa waiting for him. I almost started crying. I am tearing up writing this right now. In the end, I cannot even put into words how deeply this book affected me. Although I love Lover Awakened the most, this is definitely my second favorite.

I think it could be subtitled I Know Why the Caged Pet Sings - primarily because Butch has pampered pet syndrome and Marissa has sort of the same thing going on with her sudden ejection from the glymera.

I LOVE Butch! He's one of my favourite Brothers, along with Rhage and V. Especially, when they are all together and joking around. Even as a human, this dude can kick some serious ass. He's such a tough guy, known as the hard-ass for a reason. But there is also this charming, sweet side to him as well. Butch definitely has what it takes to run with the vampires!

Lover Revealed was a decent book. It doesn't have the intensity Lover Awakened had, but afterall: Butch isn't Zsadist.
Don't get me wrong: I love Butch. And I liked Marissa. And I luuuved Butch and V. Actually I was wishing for a Marissa/Butch/Vishous menage but alas :(

I'm more than a little embarassed to say that it took four whole 500+ page books of this series to get me to see them for what they really are. It was mr sweet, troubled loner (Zsadist) that screwed with my head and had me hoping this series would blow my mind in a similar way to the Fever series (I know how surprised you must be seeing as I rarely mention Mac Lane, Barrons or Karen Marie Moning ¬_¬ ).

I'll just explain what I mean by the Zsadist thingy. So I read Dark Lover and really liked it,...more I'm more than a little embarassed to say that it took four whole 500+ page books of this series to get me to see them for what they really are. It was mr sweet, troubled loner (Zsadist) that screwed with my head and had me hoping this series would blow my mind in a similar way to the Fever series (I know how surprised you must be seeing as I rarely mention Mac Lane, Barrons or Karen Marie Moning ¬_¬ ).

I'll just explain what I mean by the Zsadist thingy. So I read Dark Lover and really liked it, the novel had all the necessary components of good urban fantasy and paranormal romance: strong heroine, hot supernatural guy (even if he was called Wrath and liked to wear biker leathers) and just generally dark paranormal mystery goodness. So, naturally, I then read Lover Eternal and got a whole lot of the same... in exactly the same way... with a guy (Rhage) who's character was nothing but a pretty, blond version of Wrath. But, hey, Ward is a good writer and the series is so popular that I was blinded into thinking that either a) Lover Eternal is an excusable one-off, or b) The problem was my own for not 'getting' the awesomeness. And, of course, Ward held my attention with some slight hints at Zsadist's past. Now, this is what I mean about Zsadist screwing with my mind... he is the one character of the Brotherhood who is completely different, unique and interesting. I gave Lover Awakened 5 stars because of him and I rarely give 5 stars. I stand by it too, because I still think he is J.R.Ward's greatest achievement of this series.

So... my point? Zsadist threw me off-guard and gave me false hope, twice as much false hope as the unbelievably high ratings gave me. Books 1 + 2 = written well but practically the same plot, hot male, mystery story, etc, etc. Book 3 = blew my mind. Then *sigh* book 4 = written well but practically the same plot, hot male, mystery story, etc, etc. as the first two. Damn you, Ward, for making me read so far and keeping my hopes up. Damn you for managing to convince me that your novels were more than just carbon copies of one another (with the obvious exception of Lover Awakened).

Why are all your characters and storylines just clones of one another? You are obviously a talented writer, surely you could come up with something better? And, even more troubling a question, why the hell does everyone rave so much about this series? Hasn't something like number 9 just been released, god I couldn't imagine reading another 5 versions of the same book. Is it just me? Is this another Lord of the Rings scenario where I feel like I'm reading something different from everyone else? It's not as if I didn't want to like it, I really honestly did, but I couldn't - They. Are. All. The. Same.

I'll tell you what else seems to be the same: the romance story. All this stupid denial and obsession-at-first-sight (god, do I hate that!), why the hell can't two people actually build up a romance/love/relationship like they do in other books instead of having to take one look at each other and know it's meant to be - sorry, I'm not buying it.

I know I'm part of a ridculously small minority that doesn't like this series and I'm not blind to the many reasons why others might like it: hot men, smut, vamps in general... and so on. But I'm not taking it any further, I've had enough of this tiresome jumping from brother to brother and playing matchmaker, that isn't what I come to get out of urban fantasy. I'll leave my ratings for the others as they are because I can't be bothered editing the reviews to explain but I'm definitely done here.(less)

Do these books keep getting better??? Oh my gosh! I started this book last night and finished it at 3 a.m.!! I didn't know if I would like Butch and Marissa's story...I always thought Butch was interesting, but I wasn't sure if Marissa deserved him...okay so I was wrong.

Is my mind playing tricks on me? I felt that Butch have more of a connection to Vischous than Marissa.

I felt like Vischous wanted Butch in the worst way. This story stayed true to course pushing Marissa and Butch together. I didn’t find the couple to have any real connection other than he loved her beauty and the smell of the ocean.

I am going out on an emotional limb with this review. Yes, in book one Butch was portrayed as an alcoholic, hell he admits it. But, let’s be honest can we. Why is he an alcoholic? I know alcohol doesn’t solve problems, yet you show me a real life cop working homicide in a major crime city that doesn’t drink and I will introduce you to a closet drunk. Plain and simple the needless killing gets to you and what starts off as blowing off steam turns into full budded alcoholic. It...more

I am going out on an emotional limb with this review. Yes, in book one Butch was portrayed as an alcoholic, hell he admits it. But, let’s be honest can we. Why is he an alcoholic? I know alcohol doesn’t solve problems, yet you show me a real life cop working homicide in a major crime city that doesn’t drink and I will introduce you to a closet drunk. Plain and simple the needless killing gets to you and what starts off as blowing off steam turns into full budded alcoholic. It happens time and time again and there is no shame. It’s only a shame when they don’t reach out for help and end up eating a bullet.

That said back to Butch. Now why is he a drunk? His father never liked him, beat him as his mother and siblings stood by and watched doing nothing. His sister was kidnapped and murdered and his whole family blamed him though he was a child. (Hello, where were the parents???) As a child carrying the weight of a family that hates him alone in the world he never felt he belonged to and the belief that it was his fault his sister died; he became a homicide detective. For every dead girl to Butch it was just like the sister he didn’t save. So yeah, he had some issues.

As for the stretch that Butch had vamp blood… Not a stretch at all. Ward used the character Darius in book 1 to explain that sometimes half-bloods don’t transition. Darius was wanted Wrath just in case Beth transition. Which leads me to believe that Ward had already had Butch’s story outlined as she was writing book 1. Never underestimate the weave of a highly thought out story line, including that of the annoying Lesser’s plot.

Now that I have had my rant back to focus. Ward has did it yet again. Her writing speaks volume to her creative imagination. She has built a world that to me is just as captivating as LJ Smith’s Night World only with a little spice. Now if you haven’t started the Black Dagger Brotherhood Series by now…. Get your heads out of the sand and dive into the series. It will not disappoint. However, I would start with book 1 Dark Lover as the story begins and grows as each book is released.

One of my favorite books in the series and one of the most intriguing.

In this fourth installment, we are given Butch O'Neal's story and I loved it. The special bond between Vishous and Butch is revealed along with the mystery surrounding this hero.

10/19/09- I thought I really liked Lover Awakened, but then I don't know how to express how much more I loved Lover Revealed. I really like the story of Butch and more than his HEA with Marissa I loved his delicate relationship with V. I can't wait to read more about Vishous in the next book.

If I had a complaint about this series I would say, you meet and get to know even if a little all the characters in the first book, and it seems after you get their story, they disappear a little.

I really like the story of Butch and more than his HEA with Marissa I loved his delicate relationship with V. I can't wait to read more about Vishous in the next book.

If I had a complaint about this series I would say, you meet and get to know even if a little all the characters in the first book, and it seems after you get their story, they disappear a little.

4/4/10- Yup still love Butch. Still love this book.

3/26/11-(view spoiler)[ I think I finally figured out why I don't like Marissa. I always thought it was irrational jealously because I want a Butch of my very own, which is partially true. But I think that it's because throughout the book she treats Butch exactly like she doesn't want to to be treated. She tries to protect him and despite the fact that she is always aware she shouldn't say it out loud, she thinks of him as weak. As much as she is changing herself, she is still holding Butch to her old way of life. He looks at her at one point and says, "Just once I want to be enough for you." And it's true, at every turn she reminds him that he's just a human. Sure she loves him, but instead of it being because of who and what he is, it's in spite of it. So yeah. Way to give a guy a complex. Then he wants to transition and she doesn't want him to. She wants him to stay as he is and make concessions for her to feed. It is all about what she needs. She finally comes around, because he pretty much guilts her into it. then she starts in with the don't fight because you could get hurt. And in the final pages she seems to realize that she has been treating him that way, but we never get to see a change. We just hear he say it. And even in the chapter after the mating ceremony when he comes to see her we get another glimpse at her thoughts. "With the mating ceremony now completed, and her name in his back back, she has dominion over his body by both law and instinct, a control he willingly surrendered to her, lovingly surrendered to her. He was hers to command and it was, as the glymera had always said, beautiful to be truly mated." that's about 20 lines before the end of the book (not counting the Joyce epilogue). It just feels like she's happy to be mated but it's more about control than love on her part. Like if mating him meant she wouldn't be in control, she wouldn't have enjoyed it. It also makes me feel like it's great right now while she is enjoying everything. But at some point she might decided that she wants things to change and she won't think twice about bending him to her will. It all just feels a little too selfish for my taste. Plus, I think there was too much of her being that way for too long for her to really redeem herself in my mind, without some serious action backing it up. Obviously we didn't get that, and we may never. Being repressed for 300 years doesn't give you carte blanche to be a selfish brat about things.

The 5 stars come because I love Butch and his story and everything about V and about Butch finding a family. I also would like to point out that despite all the lip service paid by both Butch and V, in this book, the friendship is cleared up. V tells Butch he is the only friend he's ever had. And Butch says it's the same for him. So they can keep saying Rhage is part of the troika all they want. There is no troika. When it comes to it, they are a duet not a trio. It's even evidenced in the first night Butch goes out to fight. It's with Rhage and Butch thinks how he wishes it was with V instead. If Rhage was truly his other best friend, it would be just as good to have Rhage with him.

The Brotherhood had essentially imprisoned Butch and thanks largely in part to Vishous, began decking him out as their own private human pet. They dressed him in expensive designer clothing. Let him drive obnoxiously overpriced cars. Gave him a free place to crash. Fed him. Took him clubbing and gave him entry to the VIP sections at said club. Can you see where this is going? He was a regular Kato!

So yeah, I wasn’t too fond of ol’ Butch. But as soon as he finally ‘fessed up and started acknowledging some discomfort with the leeching, he started to grow on me. By the end of the book, Butch and I made peace with one another and I think he’s alright.

Butch and Marissa are probably the most mismatched pair of star-crossed lovers I’ve encountered yet in this series. He’s a former human cop with some major baggage. His father hated him from the time he was very small and Butch never understood why (and it’s not until the very end of the book that the rest of us find out why, although it’s not that hard to guess). And then, the summer he was 12, Butch was the last person to see his older sister alive; silently standing by and not telling anyone when his sister climbed into a strange man’s vehicle. When her dead body was found shortly afterwards, brutally raped and murdered, Butch was blamed as an instrument in her death and ostracized by the entire family. To cope with the rejection from his family, he turned to a life of petty crime and violence. And then somehow he landed himself a job as a blue collar, hard ass cop with the Caldwell PD.

Marissa, on the other hand, is three centuries old and a member of the vampiric version of the aristocracy, the glymera. She is pampered, protected, willowy, weepy, blonde, demure, and is practically perfect in every way.

EXCEPT, nobody will look at her. Nobody will acknowledge her. She’s a pariah amongst her approved social circles and is virtually shunned by everyone except her brother (who turns into even more of a jackass in this book). The reason nobody will befriend her is quite silly, albeit believable, because history shows us that human aristocracies have done the same sort of thing by establishing a very odd set of social strictures that almost always blame the victim, especially if she’s female.

If the Earl’s daughter was raped, the aristocracy cries, “ruined whore!” And they assume she was asking for it. It’s the classic argument about the double standard that faces males vs. females. In Marissa’s case, she and King Wrath had been mated at the time of his transition and even though she fell in love with him, Wrath wasn’t interested in buying whatever it was Marissa was selling so they were never truly mated. They drank each other’s blood to survive but there was no sex and no love, which in Ward’s world, is somewhat of an oddity (sort of like married couples in the human world who don’t sleep in the same bed). So when Wrath met and fell in love with Beth, he cast Marissa aside and the glymera automatically assumed there was something wrong with her.

Fortunately for Marissa, the first time blue-collar Butch lays eyes on Marissa, in the very first novel in the series, he is blinded by her beauty and drawn to her innocence. And she can’t believe a man actually has the hots for her. They play kissy-face and express their undying infatuation to each other, only to fall victim to a classic romance novel blunder: The Wildly Blown Out of Proportion Misunderstanding followed by The Jump to a Wrong Conclusion.

They both spend the entirety of novel two and three pining for each other, each thinking the other had rejected them due to some self-imposed inadequacy.

Eventually that changes. Butch gives Marissa her first orgasm. Marissa gives Butch her virginity. Some exciting throw downs with lessers happen. We find out that Rehvenge has a nifty red sword. The Scribe Virgin makes a few appearances. Beth and Marissa make friends. And something wildly important is revealed about Butch and his involvement in the outcome of the Lesser War. Oooooh!(less)

Just finished re-reading Butch, I really enjoyed this book again, even better this time as I wasn't pinning so much for Zsadist. I loved the dialogue between V & Butch and one of my favourite parts was when Zsadist was chasing Bella - when he lept off the balcony and materialised beside Bella was totally hot - you could feel the sexual tension coming through.

I'm now just hoping I have enough time to re-read V & Rhev before Lover Mine arrives - I'm going to give Phury a miss.

5 stars - Vampire Romance

The best part of this book is the close relationship and unexpected, deep bond that is forged between warriors/brothers Butch and Vishous, not the contrived love story between Butch and Marissa. Although I didn't like it quite as much as the previous books in the series, it's still an awesome read. The BDB series is the best in vampire romance!

I read this for the first time in two years and I have to honestly say I didn't give Butch a fair shake on the fist go around. I've reread Rhage's and Zsadists books many times but this was Butch's first re-read.

I think this is mainly because this first time I read this I had finished Lover Awakened a few days ago. If that book is in not the best paranormal romance written it is definitely in the top five. The emotional intensity is a hard act to follow to say the least and I was comparing it to...more

This is Butch's story. Butch is a human cop who has befriended the Vamp brothers in Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series.

The story starts off with Butch being caught by the Big Lesser, the bad guys in the series, who places a part of himself in Butch to catch the brothers- turning him into a Trojan horse as it were. (The way the Big O does it I found to be idiotic, but whatever).
