5 Stars!!! - Also reviewed at: Lady Jayne's Reading Den

Time to catch up on my reviews for this series…
“I heard the sniper’s voice against my ear when I woke today. He whispered sensual promises so savage, I can hardly believe these thoughts come from some corner of my own psyche. And yet they must. Because, at the end, he called me prey.

And told me to run.

- From the encrypted personal files of Ashaya Aleine”
Now why does that give me a delicious shiver?! Because it’s DORIAN!! *sighs and swoons*...more

“Shaya” - as Dorian calls her - has pale blue-gray eyes; so, this is when she is wearing her dark contacts.

★★★★★ & a Whoa! (This is a review of the audiobook.) Angela Dawe does an excellent job of reading this powerhouse episode in Nalini Singh’s fifth installment of the Psy-Changeling series. There is a reason she is up for an “Audie Award” for an another audiobook this year.* She makes Dorian sound not only filled with possessiveness, but suita...more

This book was fantastic. I thought that this series would get less interesting as it continued, but it seems to get even more intriguing. I loved the hero Dorian. He is full of contrasts: ice cold, but hot, violent but controlled, and deeply sensual. He is unable to change into a leopard, which he has mostly made peace with. Instead he has honed his skills as such a formidable warrior, that being unable to shapeshift is not a liability. However, being unable to shifts makes him no less in touch...more

As tempting and satisfying as Belgian chocolate! “Hostage to Pleasure” by Nalini Singh is the fabulous fifth book in her Psy-Changeling world and it’s oh so worth the cost and the time to visit there. She rachets up the suspense and the heat in equal portions and I couldn’t put the darn book down once I picked it up. This book is easily read on its own, but if you’ve been following the series you need to MOVE, RIGHT NOW and go get this book. It r...more

Dear Caressed by Ice,

You know that I love you. I truly do. You were my favorite for a while, especially compared to Mine to Possess. Alas, I must ask you to step aside. I have been caught up in a brilliant love affair the past two days with Hostage to Pleasure. At the close of this love affair, I find that I do not want it to end. Therefore, Hostage to Pleasure is now my favorite book of this series, with you as my very close second. You will always hold a special place in my heart.

Lovers You,

Now I just have no idea why I remembered so little about this book because it's definitely one of the bests! It may have not been as good as books 1,3 and 6 but definitely the best after those. If I have a thing to say about the books I have re-read so far it's that I do love the psy-changeling pairings, they are so amazing. While as a general rule I adore reading about changelings, I miss the psy when they don't have an important role in one of the books. There's just something so amazing about...more

Hostage To Pleasure starts right where Mine To Possess left off. The DarkRiver clan has paid off it's debt to Ashaya Aleine and have kidnapped her son and hidden him away in their Pack. With her son safe, Ashaya also manages to escape the Council's sphere but her contact had to abandon her in lynx territory. Surrounded by the vicious animals, DarkRiver sniper Dorian Christensen comes to her rescue, drawn to the smell of her blood and the unmistakable scent of her exotic femininity. The scent tha...more

5 stars – Paranormal Romance

Whew, the Psy-Changeling series just keeps getting impossibly better and better and continues to impress and amaze me! Although Caressed by Ice is still my favorite so far, Mine to Possess and Hostage to Pleasure are tied close for second place. Singh has created such a unique and fascinating futuristic universe with the conflict between the emotionless, cold, psychically powerful Psy race and the Changelings (shifters that are both human and animal) at its center. Wi...more

Wow! What a great 5th installment in the Psy-Changelings series by Nalini Singh! Lots of action, adventure, romance and passion!

Ashaya is an m-psy. Her specialty is medical with an emphasis on DNA. We met her in the previous book as the woman who helped rescue the 2 kids from the psy medical facility. Dorian, a changeling leopard who was the head sniper on that rescue hasnt been able to get Ashaya off his mind for months. When Ashaya fakes her own death in attempt to escape from the psy council...more

Nalini Singh drives me a little nuts. Every one of the Psy-Changeling books I've read has made me so frustrated in the first half and then made me love it in the second. I swear, it's at 50% in each book that things pick up.

In Hostage to Pleasure we get the story of two characters we've met in earlier books. Dorian, the latent leopard changeling, has been around since he wanted to rip out Sascha's throat in the first book. Ashaya was introduced in the last book -- Mine to Possess -- although I t...more

Can someone explain how a series as good as this with psychics, werewolves and sci-fi excitement carries porn worthy cheese covers like "Hostage to Pleasure"?

4.5/5.0

Whenever rating a book, one must take into consideration the genre and what the author is trying to accomplish. For example if it's light, humorous romance, how well did the author succeed in making us laugh while telling a good and believable story? In the genre of futuristic, paranormal romance, Nalini Singh comes as close to perfe...more

I think this is my favorite of the series! Dorian was sexy, protective, aggressive, caring, and did I mention sexy? And while Dorian was all those things, I liked Ashaya just as much. She's been my favorite Psy so far. Of course, that could be because (view spoiler)[her Silence never took and she's been faking it her whole life (hide spoiler)]

For anyone who's been reading my reviews about this series, you know I love the underlying story of the Rebellion that is starting in the Psy. Once again,...more

“We're a race that leaves no art, no music, no literature. Our immortality lies in the genetic inheritance we pass on to our offspring. Without that, we're nothing once we cease to exist.”

Another favorite!

All the books are linked together by the general plot but this one kind of started in Mine to Possess. In this story we have another Psy-Changeling couple, Ashaya and Dorian.

We met Ashaya in Mine to possess. She’s a M-psy specialisized in DNA and she’s the best in her field. Because of that sh...more

Wow. This series just keeps getting better and better Photobucket Best book so far, loved it!

Ashaya appeared in the last book, and I was crazy to find out what happened to her. This book is her story, what a mother would do to protect her child, and a terrible choice she must make regarding her psycho twin sister. She's the best developed female character so far. I really loved her. And wow what a spine she has Photobucket she's incredibly strong as a person, having broken Silence many years ago, she had to act em...more

Even with what may go down in history as the worst covers ever (looks like they used my grade 7 lettering set), I just love this series! It has everything I look for and then some. The detail put into the psy-changling world is very impressive and the characters are great. Finally found some PNR that matches Kresley Cole's addictive quality. Happy housewife :p

Really good story. I was a little hesitant to read about another Psy heroine after Faith left me kind of cold, but Ashaya and Dorian are a good pairing and fun to read about. The continuing stories with the Council politics, DarkMind, Pure Psy, Human Alliance, etc. continue to hold my interest, and I can't wait to see what happens in the bigger picture.

I'm really enjoying the Psy/Changeling world that Singh has created. However her latest entry, Hostage To Pleasure, lacked some of the "umph" that I've come to expect from this series.

HTP does an excellent job of giving us more insight into the workings of the PSY/Changeling world, but in doing so the author sacrificed some of the character development that actually drives a series for me. I couldn't help feeling this one fell more on the side of Urban Fantasy rather than a Paranormal Romance be...more

I really became a fan of the Psy-Changeling series, I can’t wait to get my hands on every new one I find (I’m still one book behind) and if I don’t find them in the right order I don’t let that stop me. I started this one without having read Caressed by Ice, the book where M-Psy Ashaya Aleine is introduced, that didn’t bother me though and I really enjoyed this story.

I thought Dorian was quite an interesting character from the beginning as he is the only one in his pack that cannot shape shift....more

Another enjoyable read from Nalini Singh.

The shifters in these books are so yummily dominant and so sexy in their fierceness that I can’t help but love them all.

Dorian was such an uber sexy male and I absolutely adored how he seduced Ashaya – it was dreamy, It made me wish I had my own cat to stroke.

Dorian’s story was also a little different from the other shifters as his ability to shift was dormant meaning that although he had the leopard inside him, he couldn’t physically shift into its for...more

3.5 stars. I have read at least 5 books in this series. They are all entertaining. Trashy and cheesy, but also fun and fairly interesting -- until they start to run together in my mind and feel too similar. For the series so far as a whole, 4 stars. This book, only 3.5 stars, as explained below.

SOME OBSCURE SPOILERS AHOY!!

The good stuff. Here's what I liked:

The tension in the opening chapters, where Ashaya escapes the Psy.

Ashaya is portrayed as a woman of integrity and strength, yet vulnerable....more

Continuation of my mini reviews of Nalini Singh’s epic Psy/Changeling series. Wee!!!

HOSTAGE TO PLEASURE
I’m of two minds about this one. I like Dorian, a lot. But I don’t really care about Ashaya. I like Keenan though. And I liked Amara. Probably more than I was supposed to. I found her interesting and kind of awesome. I really, really hope she gets her own book eventually though I would understand if that didn’t happen.

Ashaya Aleine was separated from her son, forced to create a neural implant that will forever enslave her psychically gifted Psy race. After fighting a desperate battle to save her child and escape the PsyNet, she's lead not to safety, but into the lethal danger of a sniper's embrace.

Before I read this book, I read some reviews on my favourite website Goodreads. The one that stood out started with the reviewer writing a letter of apology to "Caressed by Ice," the third book in the series. The re...more

I first heard of Nalini Singh on Squawk Radio. Christina Dodd could not stop raving about Singh’s terrific paranormal debut, Slave to Sensation. In that book, Singh introduces two races: the Psy, a race of psychically gifted people, who defeat a rampant psychosis that seemed to come along with their gifts by breeding emotion out of their day-to-day lives, enabling them to be dispassionate about everything. The Changelings are werekind, in most cases for her series, p...more

Excellent book. I really enjoyed the idea of a Psy who has been hiding her lack of Silence most of her life. I also enjoyed Ashaya's connection with her son and her twin sister.

While Ashaya seems to have potential as a character, her skills didn't seem to be widely used in this book. Yes, the book turns out to be about her research and her desire to see the Psy Council's development of a chip to control all Psy put to a stop, but at the same time she was mostly a being of emotion in this book. I...more

Nalini Singh has got to count as a guilty pleasure. Her books look like romance or erotica, and are fileld with sexual tension - and a few saucier scenes, but they also have a genuinely interesting plot running alongside it, and are set in a futuristic paranormal world with an original twist. It's not werewolves vs vampires or angels vs demons, it's psys vs sheshifters. Psys are cold and emotionless, bred to do, not to feel. Any that experience emotion are considered flawed and must be brain-cle...more

Repeatedly Nalini Singh has proved her amazing gift at writing with romance and action packed tales that keep you on the edge of your seat. I shouldn’t be surprised anymore of this fact but once more I have read an outstanding story with HOSTAGE TO PLEASURE. I found myself embraced again in the DarkRiver pack that contains such treasured characters for me and they welcomed me back into the mesmerizing world of the Psy/Changelings.

The first page starts with a high-tale rescue of Keenan and it is...more

I've been writing as long as I can remember and all of my stories always held a thread of romance (even when I was writing about a prince who could shoot lasers out of his eyes). I love creating unique characters, love giving them happy endings and I even love the voices in my head. There's no other job I would rather be doing. In September 2002, when I got the call that Silhouette Desire wanted t...more

“She got to me."

"It happens to the best of us."

"Yeah? Who gets to you?" He was so strong that sometimes she worried. Everyone needed to bend a little, even a panther responsible for the lives of his entire pack.

"That damn wolf. He sent you a present last week."

Sascha smiled at the thought of Hawke's flirting. The SnowDancer alpha did it only to jerk Lucas's chain. "I never saw any present. What was it?"

"How the hell should I know? I stomped on it and threw it into the deepest crevice I could find." He smirked. "Then I called him to ask how Sienna was doing."

She burst out laughing. "Wicked, wicked man.”
