This book was fantastic. I thought that this series would get less interesting as it continued, but it seems to get even more intriguing. I loved the hero Dorian. As a lover of shapeshifter romance, I love how Singh depicts the feelings and thoughts of the leopard that dwells inside the man. Dorian is a totally hot hero, although he is an ice cold sniper for the Snow Dancer Leopard pack. He sets his sights on Ashaya Aleine, a member of the hated Psy race, but his leopard recognizes his mate. I love fated to mated books, so it totally worked for me that Dorian decides early on that he has to have Ashaya. And once he recognizes her as his, he will move heaven and earth to protect her and her child.

Ashaya is a Psy who never accepted Silence, the nonemotional protocol of the Psy race. Instead she has continued a charade. She is a scientist with a woman's heart who saves children being subject to horrible scientific experiments. When she delivers them to the Snow Dancer pack for protection, she asks that they extract her son who is being kept hostage to keep her working on a high priority project for the Psy Council. This how she encounters Dorian. Dorian hates the Psy since his beloved sister was savagely killed by an insane Psy Councilmember. His heart is full of vengeance against the Psy for what was done to his sister. Dorian almost shoots her, but his leopard recognizes his mate, although at first he is unable to accept this. Although in theory she is his enemy, the conflict doesn't get drawn out too long because the mating bond is much stronger between Dorian and Ashaya.

The attraction between Dorian and Ashaya is red hot and drives this book. You want to keep reading to see the fire between them. I loved the banter and interactions between Dorian and Ashaya. However, the plot is very readable as well. Ashaya has a twin who is a best a sociopath, at worst extremely dangerous. I felt for Ashaya's burden of trying to keep her twin under control, and how this has affected her life in many ways. Ashaya is rational and scientific, but is equally loving and loyal to those who matter to her.

Hostage to Pleasure was definitely a joy to read. I had trouble putting the book down, and was impatient to finish it. Nalini Singh has definitely earned my loyalty as an author by writing this fantastic series that mixes science and fiction that is a delicious package. Science fiction can be dry at times to me, but not the way that Singh writes it. She understands that the love story and the sexual chemistry, along with strong depiction of interpersonal relationships, has to be the glue in a paranormal book with science fiction elements, and succeeds without question. I also love how racially and ethnically diverse her characters are. Ashaya seems to be of European and African ancestry, while Dorian has predominantly Nordic features. As long as she continues to write these books with sexy, alpha heroes, and the women they love, I'll continue to eagerly read them.(less)

Dorian is a latent leopard, unable to shift. This ‘lack’ has been the impetus behind his fierce need to excel at everything to become one of the toughest Guardians of the DarkRiver Pack. He hates the Psy and the Silence with a bitter rage that hasn’t lessened since a psychotic Psy brutally tortured and killed his sister. When he rescues a young Psy child, he unwittingly forms a blood bond that enables the child to escape from the Net. Then he is given the assignment to guard and protect an M-Psy defector who happens to be the child’s mother, and both he and his leopard are confused and furious with their instant and unflagging attraction to her.

Ashaya is a brilliant and talented M-Psy who is desperate to escape from the Council’s clutches. But first, she must free her son, the Council’s hostage for her cooperation in concocting an implant to enslave her race. And if she must die to ensure her son’s freedom and safety…then so be it. When her daring escape is successful, she becomes the Council’s #1 target for elimination; so she’s assigned a Guardian for protection. She’s met this Guardian before and hasn’t been able to forget him or his actions in saving her child. But Ashaya is also keeping some VERY big secrets; secrets that could cause serious problems for Psy, Changelings, and humans and upset the delicate balance between the three. To keep her secrets, she MUST maintain silence. But every minute she spends in Dorian’s company is undermining her ability to stay cold and unfeeling.

What a rush! Every time I thought I had the ending figured out, Singh kept throwing something else in the mix. The tension built so skillfully I didn’t realize how tense I was until my hubby remarked on my facial expressions! And the heat between Dorian and Ashaya…yowza! His fierce protectiveness combined with the fire of the mating bond—well, you’ll want to keep a fan handy. This world has such an extensive and complex society, yet it’s not hard to keep track of the main players and issues, even those that carry from book to book. That takes a real talent and Singh has it in spades. She does a fine job of keeping a balance between romance and action, I didn’t feel ‘cheated’ with either. The entire cast remained in character throughout the book and the relationship obstacles were logical and reasonable for her universe. The ‘happily ever after’ was probably the best yet, but you’ll have to read it yourself to see what I mean.

I’ve read each of Nalini Singh’s four previous books in this series and I think I become a bigger fan after each one. It’s hard to find anything to dislike except maybe that she doesn’t write faster. And she does such a great job of subtly setting up the next book in the series. It’s part of the plot of this book and doesn’t leave you hanging or jump out of nowhere. More than anything, it makes me anxious for her next release, “Branded by Fire” coming in ‘summer 2009’. I can’t say enough good things about “Hostage to Pleasure” and this series. It’s original, it’s interesting, and it’s sexy. And that’s really all I’m looking for in a book or a series!

As I'm sure you can tell from my letter above, Hostage to Pleasure is now my favorite Psy/Changeling book. Dorian has always been my favorite male character, probably my favorite character of the whole series, and he remains that. I was worried about this book to be honest. If you've read my review for Mine to Possess, you know that I had a very bad experience with that book. So yeah, I was worried that this one was going to turn out just as bad and that I was going to hate it just as much as Mine to Possess. Alas, that did not happen. Thank God. I love this book, I want to marry this book, and I want to have this book's babies. Well, Dorian's babies at least.

As stated above, I love Dorian (or Oh God Dorian, as Sam and I refer to him)--love him--and if I didn't love Ashaya, I would be painfully jealous of the woman. Don't get me wrong, Dorian should still be mine but I am willing to share him with Shaya. Dorian is just so awesome. I can honestly say that the only thing that bothered me with regards to him was in the beginning when he refused to accept that he was attracted to Ashaya, and later that she was his mate, because she was a Psy. However, I do understand that because he felt like he was betraying his baby sister Kylie, who was butchered and murdered by a Psy Councilor. Other than that small thing, my Dorian, he's perfect.

Ashaya is my favorite female of the series thus far. It used to be Brenna, but now it's Shaya (with Brenna as a very close second; I do love Mercy, too, though). I loved that, although she was a Psy, unlike Sascha and Faith, the Silence Protocol never even stuck with her. It made her unique. Plus, I just loved her. She was an awesome character, not afraid to stand up for herself and not afraid to stand up to Dorian, even when he was being a complete ass to her. Strong woman, that Shaya. And I could just kiss her for "fixing," and I use that term loosely, Dorian. My Dorian feels utterly complete now, with his leopard and man halves finally combining into just Dorian. The only thing that sucked about Shaya was her blind love for her creepy sister; however, like with Dorian, I suppose I can understand that too. To a certain extent.

Speaking of Ashaya's sister, let's talk about Amara, who I ~~disdainfully~~ fondly refer to as Creepy Fuck. As I'm sure the nickname indicates, she creeped me the fuck out from the beginning, the weirdo. The way she stalked Shaya's mind and was creepily possessive of her...Ick. I still think that she should have died. She freaked me out that much. No way do I want her in any way connected to Shaya, Oh God Dorian, adorable Keenan, or anyone else I love (or hate, such as Bitchface).

Keenan, that adorable boy, was so cute and I just want to snatch him up and cuddle him. Another character that I came to love even more in this book was Mercy. I love that she is Dorian's best friend and that she is tormented by thoughts of a certain wolf. I can't wait to read her book next.

As previously stated, I am very glad that Hostage to Pleasure did not suck. I would have been sorely disappointed if it had. I mean, really. Dorian's book cannot suck. It's positively sinful for Dorian to have a sucky book! Therefore, good job, Nalini Singh, you are back in my good graces.(less)

Now I just have no idea why I remembered so little about this book because it's definitely one of the bests! It may have not been as good as books 1,3 and 6 but definitely the best after those. If I have a thing to say about the books I have re-read so far it's that I do love the psy-changeling pairings, they are so amazing. While as a general rule I adore reading about changelings, I miss the psy when they don't have an important role in one of the books. If I have a thing to say about the books I have re-read so far it's that I do love the psy-changeling pairings, they are so amazing. While as a general rule I adore reading about changelings, I miss the psy when they don't have an important role in one of the books. There's just something so amazing about them, something not any other supernatural species has. I think it's the fact that there is not one single other series which talks about them, they are as original as a species can be, no other author has the power to create a whole new species from scratch and turn it into one of the bests. Although it's not only that, it's the whole plot. Psy are so complex that it's impossible not to wanna read more and more about them. We know they need to leave silence but we also know many can't because then their powers would become unmanageable. There's not white or black when Psy are present, only many, many scales of grey. I liked it because we see the Council constantly present in this book. While I hated them while doing my first read, I found myself reading in detail every comment they make in this second read. They may have been boring to me before but now they are one of the best additions of this series, things would not be as interesting without the constant interaction and participation of the Psy Council. So many things are doubtful now, we have no idea what's coming on the future, just that many things will happen no matter what because changes are coming. How can you not love a series so intriguing and different from the rest?

In this instalment we get to read about Dorian. He's the only latent cat in the pack, meaning he's not able to turn leopard. He's also the most dangerous and close to become rouge as he had to kill his sister after she was attacked by a sociopath psy who torture her in every way you can imagine and more. Still, he's one of the best sentinels DR has, one of the most powerful. He has the task to help saving the son of the psy who helped freed 3 children in the last book, and you can imagine how hard that task is to him after all he has been through because of those "damn psy". But M-Psy Ashaya is nothing he thought she would be. Not only does she show signs that Silence is not fully accepted by her mind but she shows strong feelings for his son. How can Dorian stay mad at her after she has showed him he is nothing like other Psy he has fought in the past and everything his cat has been waiting for.

This is an amazing read, the one I read faster, couldn't put it down. I have a soft spot for books with kids and this one is no exception. Loved it. Can't wait to re-read the next,LOL.(less)

Dorian Christensen has a lot of bottled up anger inside him, due to his inability to go full leopard and the brutal murder of his sister. He can't stop blaming himself. If he could go full leopard, maybe he could have been a little bit faster in saving his precious baby sister. His rage at first holds him back from seeing Ashaya as his mate, the female who his latent cat has recognized as it's own. His moods shift dangerously from lust to anger and back again as he tries to come to terms with himself and the fact that Ashaya is protecting a Psy very much like the killer who destroyed his sister. Dorian is deliciously dominant with Ashaya who doesn't let him boss her around. She quickly learns that she needs to stand up to his cat if he is to respect her and listen to her. Ashaya is heartbreaking to read about in that she's a woman stuck between her need as a mother to protect her son and as an older sister trying to protect her younger sister. She doesn't flinch from what needs to be done and tries to execute everything as precisely as possible.

This is the fifth book in Nalini Singh's Pst/Changeling world and it was excellent. It has a slightly darker feel to it than earlier books and there's a definite tension running throughout that you can practically taste. She is steadily building a coming war between the Psy and the Changelings and she is also bringing the human world into the fight. After eons of being in third place, the humans are about to make their move, which is only muddying the waters and adding to the conflicts. Silence is breaking at a much faster rate within the Psy race, creating a power vacuum that could turn into anyone's game. While reading Hostage To Pleasure you can actually see the Psy/Changeling world developing under Nalini Singh's skill as an author and her seamless world building just gets better and better. This series is one of my favorites and I can't wait to read the next one! (less)

Whew, the Psy-Changeling series just keeps getting impossibly better and better and continues to impress and amaze me! Although Caressed by Ice is still my favorite so far, Mine to Possess and Hostage to Pleasure are tied close for second place. Singh has created such a unique and fascinating futuristic universe with the conflict between the emotionless, cold, psychically powerful Psy race and the Changelings (shifters that are both human and animal) at its center. With first rate writing, interesting, well-developed characters that are impossible not to fall in love with, hypnotic world building, lots of heart and emotion, and passionate, steamy romance, this series really stands out in the paranormal, sci-fi/fantasy romance genre.

I’ve been waiting anxiously for Dorian’s story, and this sure didn’t disappoint. Dorian is a Changeling DarkRiver leopard sentinel who through some anomaly has been unable to shift into animal form ever since birth. He’s learned to compensate and contribute to his pack by enhancing his intelligence, strengths, and skills in a multitude of important areas: he’s a computer hacker, a pilot, an architect, and DarkRiver’s top sniper. He’s emotionally tortured by the loss of his baby sister who was kidnapped and brutally butchered by a Psy serial killer before they could catch him. Dorian was one of the Changelings who enacted vengeance on the psychopath, but it did little to alleviate his guilt and anguish over not being able to save his sister in time. He’s sworn retribution against the entire Psy race, but when he’s tasked with protecting Ashaya Aleine, an M-Psy who helped the Changelings, and her son Keenan, he finds himself enigmatically drawn to them as his mate and child. Now, he’ll have to face his demons and let go of his hate or else risk destroying his precious chance for love and happiness. Dorian has to deal with conflicting feelings and a swirling mix of emotions for Ashaya: intense desire and attraction, a fierce sense of protectiveness, need, anger, guilt, and distrust.

Dorian and Shaya’s relationship is sexy, volatile, sweet, and deeply passionate. The sexual tension between them is palpable and electric, and although the romance is slow building, it’s authentic and beautiful. And when they finally do come together…it’s blistering HOT! It’s another powerhouse, sensual read in an exceptional series, and just when I think Singh can’t possibly outdo herself, she (to my utter reading happiness) proves me wrong. I’m very eager for more of this fantastic series! 5 stars!

Dorian, the latent leopard changeling, has been around since he wanted to rip out Sascha's throat in the first book. Ashaya was introduced in the last book -- Mine to Possess -- although I think she might have been referenced in Caressed by Ice.

Dorian's a fave. The guy who can't shift, who's all pent up because of his 'disability', his sister's murder and the continuing stress of a war with the Psy. Ashaya is an M-Psy who's been working on the Protocol 1 chip that will create a hive mind among the Psy. Naturally, she's been rogue for a while and finds herself needing to escape. Dorian ends up being her bodyguard which is kind of nice for both of them since they've been obsessing over each other since he threatened to kill her in Mine to Possess.

Ashaya's got all kinds of other problems that I won't go into, but, without giving any specifics, these probs were what annoyed me. For fully half of the book we got her POV saying things like: "it wasn't {blank}, it was something far worse". This was said about three different things multiple times. At one point I said "oh give me a break!" out loud and put the book down for the night I was so annoyed. That's not creating suspense, it's creating frustration.

Interestingly enough, as soon as some of that actual information started to be shared with the reader the book became very enjoyable.

So, having seen that K is working on "Slave to Sensation" and feeling frustrated, I think it's not just me. Keep going, get past that 50% mark and suddenly you've got a heck of a story. Since this was book five, I doubt the template's going to change much. By the last book -- the fourth in the series -- I knew to look forward to that halfway point, knowing I would really get into it by then.

There you have it. The second half is five stars. The first half is three stars (at most). A solid four star read by the end.

I wanted more from the epilogue. There were reactions beyond that little group that I wanted to read about. I wish I hadn't had to write that sequence in my head, because I think it would have been relevant to the story as a whole. (less)

Really good story. I was a little hesitant to read about another Psy heroine after Faith left me kind of cold, but Ashaya and Dorian are a good pairing and fun to read about. The continuing stories with the Council politics, DarkMind, Pure Psy, Human Alliance, etc. continue to hold my interest, and I can't wait to see what happens in the bigger picture.

HTP does an excellent job of giving us more insight into the workings of the PSY/Changeling world, but in doing so the author sacrificed some of the character development that actually drives a series for me. I couldn't help feeling this one fell more on the side of Urban Fantasy rather than a Paranormal Romance be...more I'm really enjoying the Psy/Changeling world that Singh has created. However her latest entry, Hostage To Pleasure, lacked some of the "umph" that I've come to expect from this series.

HTP does an excellent job of giving us more insight into the workings of the PSY/Changeling world, but in doing so the author sacrificed some of the character development that actually drives a series for me. I couldn't help feeling this one fell more on the side of Urban Fantasy rather than a Paranormal Romance because of all the threads the author had to tie together in her world building- although it certainly is not Urban Fantasy in it's purist form.

In HTP we get Dorian's story- the one Changeling from the DarkRiver pack who is unable "change". He's been with us from the beginning of the series and suffered a great tragedy in the loss of his beloved sister to a psychopathic Psy who brutally kidnapped and murdered her. These two aspects keeps him separate yet part of the pack- because he needs them to keep him sane. (A top notch sniper/ sentinel, he continues to protect the pack above and beyond to compensate for the fact he can't transform into the leopard who resides inside him who is also so overcome with bitterness over his sister's death, it's eating away at him.)

Enter Ashaya. A beautiful bronzed skinned Psy who secretly defied the evil Psy Council to help rescue children in captivity connected to Dorian's pack. Ashaya's been under the thumb of the Psy all her life- but she's hidden her true self from them. When it became clear that the Psy Council will use any means necessary to keep her working on a secret project that would destroy anyone exhibiting emotion- including using her son as leverage- she decides to get out. She calls in her marker with DarkRiver pack and fakes her own death to escape. And it works. Until she decides to expose the Psy's plans to the world for the good of the people and thereby exposes herself to those who want what she knows- no matter what the cost.

Dorian's appalled. He's assigned to protect this cold Psy who's motives are muddied at best- but she's of the race of the man who destroyed his sister. How can he do his job when everything in him screams for him to avenge his sister's murder? Of course there's another problem- he's helplessly attracted to her.

And Shaya is not what she seems. She's an ice maiden for a reason. When Dorian discovers why, he's even more determined to protect her and her son- despite what he feels.

In the meantime, not only are the Psy making plans to eliminate her, but other factions as well. And as the Silence (the total suppression of emotions) crumbles around the Psy, they become even more desperate to end Shaya's life. For what she knows will be the key to their undoing.

Although I did enjoy HTP, I was a bit disappointed in the love connection in this novel. Oh I liked both Shaya and Dorian tremendously- I just felt like their story took too much of a backseat to all the explaining that had to be done to make Singh's world fit.

I really became a fan of the Psy-Changeling series, I can’t wait to get my hands on every new one I find (I’m still one book behind) and if I don’t find them in the right order I don’t let that stop me. I thought Dorian was quite an interesting character from the beginning as he is the only one in his pack that cannot shape shift. I was a bit worried when I saw he was going to be paired up with yet another Psy heroine because although I did like books 1 and 2 of this series very much I think book 2 brought less to this universe as it had the same type of characters and situation. I’m happy to say though that when I closed this book I was quite convinced that Singh had managed to introduce some really original details and I really can’t wait to read more about the Psy-Changeling world.

When Dorian first meets Ashaya, in the previous book, she releases two children that were being tortured by the Psys, now she has issued a request that her son be saved from the Psys and its Dorian that rescues the boy. There’s rebellion growing among the Psy and Ashaya is decided to abandon the lab where she works because she doesn’t agree with research she is being made to do. She decides to defect and has some inside help for that.

It’s Dorian who picks her up after she defects and while he has no love for Psys after his sister was killed by one he can’t ignore the strong attraction between them. The attraction is mutual but Ashaya is determined to keep Silence even if she wants to tell the world about the Council’s plans to make Silence permanent. They both have personal problems to deal with and the usual Psy/Changeling relationship problems. Dorian is finally healed in this book and Ashaya can finally acknowledge her relationship with her son and her sister. One new very interesting character is introduced here, Amara, she was definitely someone different and since she is still around at the end of the book I have great hope that Singh is planning something for her.

The shifters in these books are so yummily dominant and so sexy in their fierceness that I can’t help but love them all.

Before I read this book, I read some reviews on my favourite website Goodreads. The one that stood out started with the reviewer writing a letter of apology to "Caressed by Ice," the third book in the series. The reviewer, like me, had already nominated Caressed by Ice as her favourite of the series so far, and was writing to apologise for the fact that "Hostage to Pleasure," had replaced that book in her affections. I have to agree whole heartedly with her. Whilst the third installment still holds a special place in my heart, this book just blows it out of the water.

The "sniper" described in the preamble is Dorian. Those of you who have read the previous books in the story will know that Dorian is a latent leopard (meaning he can't shift), has A LOT of pent up agression and hates Psy with every fibre of his being. He is the brother to Kylie who was brutally murdered in the first book. All in all, he's got enough problems on his plate without adding the clinically cold Ashaya to the mix.

Dorian is determined to hate all Psy till the day he dies, and if he can take out a few along the way, then all well and good. He'd certainly never willingly mate one. Problem is he can't get Ashaya or her son Keenan, with whom he seems to have made a strange psychic connection, out of his mind. He is physically impressive and has all the attributes of a true Alpha - cue drooling.

Ashaya on the other hand is different from other Psy we've already met. She's an M-Psy (medical abilities with a focus on DNA) and after an event in her childhood, Silence never really stuck. She's been trapped in a lab by Ming Le Bon (or Ming the Merciless as I like to think of him) working on some truely horrendous invention meant to turn the rest of the Psy nation into automatons in a hive mind, trying to keep her lack of silence a secret, trying to protect her son who's held hostage by the council and avoiding her twin sister's prying mind. Dorian to the rescue!!

On the twin sister - Amara is seriously scary. She's psychotic in the very true sense of the word, but strangely and irrevocably linked to Ashaya. Where one goes, the other is sure to follow, so it leaves the packs with a dilemma - what to do about Amara. It's not something I'd want to deal with. She is proper scary.

The best bit about this book is watching Dorian deal with his issues - and there are many. He's a strong man who learnt from a very early age that he'd have to prove himself in everything he does to compensate for his latency. And boy does he compensate. A dark brooding hunk of a man with loyalty and love to give in spades to those who deserve it. The problem is of course that he doesn't want to admit that Ashaya does deserve it. Sexual tension through the roof, some seriously steamy scenes and more action than any of the other books ensue. Brilliant. Just brilliant. I loved it!

Read it. Now.

The Changelings are werekind, in most cases for her series, predators. In the case of Nalini Singh’s newest book, Hostage to Pleasure, leopards.

Dorian Christensen is unique among his pack, he is a latent leopard, meaning that he cannot shift to his animal form. This doesn’t stop him from being both a sniper and a sentinal for the DarkRiver pack when he mets Ashaya Aleine, an M-Psy (meaning she specializes in medical related psychic work), who has called in a favor that she did for his pack recently. She wants the DarkRiver pack to kidnap her son, Keenan. Ashaya is heading up a medical group that is working in secret to create a neural implant that will effectively enslave her race. She objects to the work she is doing, and refuses to allow the Psy council, the ruling party of her race, to use her son against her. So, she asks for him to be kidnapped by the Changelings. Keenan is taken by DarkRiver and is secreted away. At the same time, Ashaya fakes her death in order to escape and is very quickly sent to be protected by DarkRiver as well, by a mysterious entity that we’ve met throughout the series, but do not know, the Ghost.

When Ashaya arrives with DarkRiver, Dorian is immediately drawn to her. This infuraties him, as he has a tragic and horrible history with the Psy that has left him deeply scarred, and terribly angry. Ashaya finds herself fascinated by Dorian, but also quite intimidated by him. Her son, on the other hand, has linked himself psychically to Dorian and trusts him utterly. Ashaya herself has many secrets, ones that could get her killed and endanger her son. She and Dorian spend a lot of time circling around each other somewhat like magnets, both drawn and repelled. Dorian can’t fight his attraction to her, and yet is enraged by what he sees as her lack of emotion, especially towards her son. Ashaya is terrified of all of the emotion she is feeling and fears she is becoming insane. On top of that, she has others, unknown to DarkRiver, that would be endangered should she reveal her secrets. But her attraction to Dorian is threatening to overwhelm her ability to remain dispassionate and imperical about her life and those responsibilities.

I found this the fifth book in the series to be the most emotional. Which of course, is ironic, as the Psy feel no emotion. As Ashaya fights against her emotions and her feelings for Dorian, she is slowly uncovered to be a heroine of deep and abiding loyalty and a mother with a ferocious protective instinct. She is strong willed and dynamic, and possesed of an iron backbone and therefore is a more than ample foil to Dorian’s dominant instinct. Dorian, although latent, is a powerful force in the pack and is fighting his own demons. But once he realizes that Ashaya is his mate, her pursues her with the relentlessness of, well, a predator. He is protective and fierce and as loving and tender as one could wish a hero to be. This entry in the series is among my favorites, although I’d be hard pressed to choose which book I love best — they are all fantastic. The book stands alone, although readers who begin with this should be forewarned to have the other books in hand when you start. Once you start this series, you’ll want it to go on and on and on.(less)

I found myself embraced again in the DarkRiver pack that contains such treasured characters for me and they welcomed me back into the mesmerizing world of the Psy/Changelings.

The first page starts with a high-tale rescue of Keenan and it is the immediate connecting between Keenan and Dorian that paints such an endearing picture. Moreover, it ones again proves how protective Changelings are about their cubs or are of children. Dorian is one of those highly addictive Sentinels within the DarkRiver pack whom holds you spellbound from the first moment you meet him. Now, in HOSTAGE TO PLEASURE, it is his story that is told and he is re-acquainted with Ashaya, an M-Psy who harbors a few secrets that puts her in the direct path of Dorian. Both their pasts set up for conflict between them and from the moment they meet it causes verbal firework that made me gobble up the pages like it was my next fix of chocolate.
For me one of the things I love about Nalini Singh’s writing is the seemingly impossible love between two people that makes the impact of their tale above and beyond. Ashaya and Dorian will both separately as well as together pull at your emotional strings, all your strings! May it be love, pride, endearment, fear and perhaps even anger. I experienced the whole rainbow of emotions as Dorian faces his past and Ashaya faces a difficult decision. Moreover, it is with skin privilege that Dorian dares Ashaya to take it a step further and though the passionate encounters are few it is not something that I overly missed. The intensity, but also the playful purring nature of Dorian as a Changeling, makes the eruption of build-up sensuous tensions all the more satisfactory.

With Ashaya being the leading M-Psy of a very important experiment the reader is being pulled deeper into the Psy world with The Council at its centre. And to my surprise I found out there’s a new group in town and they are not going anywhere soon. Hidden in a cloak of mystery they already meddle with Council business and form a new threat for the Changeling packs. The plot thickens all around and served the overall story superbly as Psy keep up scheming and plotting which gives Dorian and Ashaya the necessary issues to work out. With enticing little tidbits of information at the start of each chapter various voices are heard and I enjoyed this extra addition to the story.

Of course there is a rich cast of secondary characters that makes you feel right at home. Kit is on the verge of becoming an adult but he still has that juvenile exuberance that makes him so endearing. Lucas, Sascha, Tammy and her cubs, Vaughn, Faith, Clay and his Tally, they all form a family with their own customs that makes me feel a part of this extraordinary pack. From the Psy Council to the DarkRiver and SnowRiver pack, they all add their unique voice to this novel and it creates a vibe that makes you want to return to it the moment you close this book.
HOSTAGE TO PLEASURE is another engrossing read, with another dynamic couple and it is another welcome addition to this much beloved series. Dorian and Ashaya’s story is paranormal romance and so much more.
