I have been wanting to read this series for a while. Everyone around me loved it...couldn't get enough of it. So when I started this I was beyond excited to sink my teeth into this book!

Unfortunately...it kind of stopped there. I have to say, for me, this is really more of a 2.5 stars. It's better than a 2, but not quite a 3. And if I am being perfectly honest with you, there were times when I just didn't want to finish.

So let me tell you why...

I think this bo More...

All sorts of people recommended this book to me-friends, writers, book bloggers, people on Goodreads. I have no idea what took me so long to finally get to it, because it is just the kind of book I like. I couldn't read Jenny Pox fast enough!
This book is a lot of different things, not just another YA paranormal/supernatural romance. There are plenty of grusome images and vivid descriptions to delight a horror lover, plenty of high school antics and cliqueishness for people who like co More...

I already stated in the interview with Jeff Bryan yesterday that this book really managed to surprise me. When I started reading, I expected a girl-meets-boy YA book with paranormal touch. Turns out I was wrong.

Jenny Pox tells a powerful and intense story of an outsider who has to struggle to live with her horrible power. It begins with a very disturbing scene introducing Jenny as toddler playing with a snake and killing her with her touch. It´s disturbing because even if she´s so sm More...

Do you hear that slurping sound? That's me…getting sucked into this book.

The three main characters in this story are Jenny, Seth, and Ashleigh. Each wields a different supernatural power. At first they don't know this about each other but soon they discover each other's secret. Jenny and Seth just want a normal life, but Ashleigh has other plans. Their lives are intertwined more than they realize and eventually Ashleigh's evil intentions are discovered. Jenny and Seth are the only ones More...

I definitely thought Jenny Pox would be your standard YA fare, albeit very good, when I started reading it but, yes, a little more than a third into the book we take a turn for the ADULT. Which I really enjoyed. Despite how dark a view on humanity is presented by the characters in Mr. Bryan's book, I really enjoyed them all, even the truly evil Ashleigh!

And the writing is definitely engaging. It's such an interesting story and so well written I too was racing back to my kindle to slip More...

I bought this book back in October on a whim one day. I had no clue who the Author was at the time and just thought the plot appealed to my love of Plague stories. For whatever reason I never did get around to reading it until Yesterday but boy am I so glad that I did.

This book had it all romance, mystery, danger and of course action. The final scene was one I feel would translate so well to screen. Yes a lot of people die but to be fair to Jenny they were trying to kill her. I loved t More...

I really enjoyed this Stephen King Carrie-esque young adult novel. It focuses on a girl, Jenny, who can kill with a touch. She is isolated, friendless, the class laughing stock for her gloves, long sleeves, and pants even in the heat. It all changes when she has a chance encounter with Seth who she finds she can actually touch without hurting...the only problem is that he has a girlfriend. One who is Jenny's biggest enemy.

The book is full of the proper YA angst. Some readers compl More...

I love books that pose questions, I feel they add “layers” to books that could have otherwise been straight forward and generic. What do I mean? Well… try these on for size.

1. What would you do if by simply touching someone, you could take their life?
2. What would you do if you could heal even the hardest of injuries with your presence?
3. What if you could influence every person you ever came into contact with, just because you wanted to?

Why are these questions so i More...

I have very mixed feelings about this book, for a lot of different reasons. So I'm going to split the review in half, the good points and the points that aren't so good.

Firstly, one of the best things about this book is Jenny. She was determined to keep her powers hidden and the rest of the population safe but when it came to protecting the people she loved she had no problem with using them for defence. Her development through the story was great, we see her alone and scared, and th More...

The teen years. A time of awkwardness and confusion, of inner turmoil and the search for one’s self. Throw into this the pressures of school, the chaos of personal and family relations, and the conflicting messages when discovering of one’s own sexuality, and the stress multiplies. This is hard enough on a normal child, but imagine being someone who has a problem – a real problem such as a deformity, mental handicap, or social deficiency. Then the stress invol More...

I dunno, guys.....

For most of this book, it seemed to be everything I liked in a Young Adult paranormal novel - it was very fresh, a concept I'd never before seen.

Then - at the end - it just got weird. There is an explanation behind the powers that Jenny, Seth and Ashleigh possess, that is not adequately explained. I hardly get it at all. I'm definitely going to purchase the sequel, "Tommy Nightmare," maybe that will shed some additional light on this very unique st More...

When i saw how many good reviews Jenny Pox had, i thought it would be a good idea to try it as well. Unfortunately, it was not what i was expecting.

The writing style us simple but still alive, and every scene you read is close to you and you can feel the scenes and the atmosphere like you are other. The main story idea with the girl who couldn't touch anyone and the various secrets powers that exist while it's ordinary, it flows in different and really original way which make t More...

I was hesitant about this book, but it had such great reviews I thought what the hell I'll give a go. I should not have read this book, I should have been doing homework that's due date is fast approaching instead I got sucked in by this one.

Basis of the story Jenny a.k.a. Jenny Pox is basically Typhoid Mary she can spread diseases through her touch. Skin to skin contact. This has lead her to a life of loneliness in that she has to keep everyone arms length away and the only person More...

This was very interesting. I had thought I had figured out Jenny but I was completely wrong when the ending completely blew my theory out of the water! I was glad to see a bit of Jenny's childhood, it made the story all that much more mysterious and we get to see a bit of just how Jenny turned out the way she did.

I really hated Ashleigh. But I think I was supposed to. I had cringed every time she had one of her ideas or plans or when she tortured Jenny. But she was a really great add More...

I'm totally infected with Jenny Pox. I began this book by reading the first chapter as an excerpt at the end of another book. I was so totally enamored of the lead character, Jenny, that I immediately purchased a copy to continue the story. That's talent right there - grabbing my full attention so easily. I probably would have read the entire book in one sitting if I hadn't needed to work.

Poor Jenny is plagued - in more ways than one. She suffers extreme loneliness and isolation due to More...

I have to say this now AMAZING!!!!!!! I loved every part of this book. I felt for Jenny and how she walks around covered so she cant touch anyone. I mean really could you even imagine going a whole day and not being able to touch anyone.

In the opening you read about Jenny as a little girl she is searching for something that she thinks is a rattle only to find its a snake she of course ends up killing this snake. (not that I minded cause I hate snakes.) From the start you could fee More...

I had first heard of J.L. Bryan from Amanda Hocking when she mentioned him on her blog. Looking at the description I was instantly curious to see where this went. The book didn’t disappoint either.
Jenny Morton is a terrified young girl who keeps to herself, but not because she has to. What else can you do when you know you have the ability to kill someone by one simple touch? Wear long sleeves, jeans, gloves and everything to keep as much of your body hidden as possible to do the things you More...

I read this book when I was in search of some lighter fare in the young adult genre, which was probably mistake #1. I had seen Jenny Pox pop up in the same lists as some of my favorite YA books like the Hunger Games and the Mortal Instruments series.

I finished this book...and all I have to say is, well, gross.

It's hard to enjoy a book when every single character is unsympathetic. Jenny suffers from what I like to call Twilight-syndrome - she's a female with no spine and z More...

I have read a lot of young adult paranormal romances lately, and I will let you know up front that although Jenny Pox is marketed towards the YA group, I do not consider this to be a young adult novel. The author, J.L. Bryan, makes a note that this isn't recommended for readers under 16, and parents should use their discretion if they have any control over the books their teens read. Jenny Pox is a book about teenagers, teenagers with supernatural powers to be sure, but teenagers nonetheless. Th More...

To be honest, I wasn't expecting much from this book. Inexpensive, young adult fiction with a female lead? However, I was surprised and impressed. As I read I kept expecting it to go wrong somewhere, but it never did. While the triangle of the evil, pretty popular girl and good but clueless handsome male lead with a female loser/outcast is common enough, it never felt old here, and it felt like a very fresh take on that sort of thing. More like that typical dynamic was just window dressing for a More...

Jenny Morton discovered early in life that she could never touch anyone. If she did, they would immediately develop horrible sores and eventually die if she held on for too long. Needless to say, Jenny is a lonely girl. At school, she's largely seen as a low class, shy freak because of the gloves she wears everyday and her dad being a drunk. She has pretty much faded into the background in her classmates' minds, except for Ashleigh, an ambitious and cruel cheerleader, who makes fun of her pretty More...

Jenny Pox opens with an intense and disturbing scene that introduces us to Jenny as a toddler, playing with a dangerous snake. It is soon evident that Jenny is no normal little girl when she inadvertently kills the snake in her fear. When she runs into the house to show her father her now-dead "toy", it is quickly established how much of an outsider Jenny is, even in her own house. In order to comfort her, her father has to don his "cuddle suit" just to be able to hold her More...

If you love gore/action + a good plot then you should definitely pick up this book. I was intrigued first knowing that there are 3 main characters to the story, all of which has their own powers and ability that is totally different from each other. Each person is connected with one another, stories dating back through time.

People can definitely relate to these characters because Bryan captured the life that teens live through each day and just added the fantasy/horror spin into the More...

What's this? A man writing paranormal YA better than a woman can? I'm shocked. Shocked!

I really hope you can pick up on my sarcasm, because I'm attempting to lay it on pretty thick.

Let's see, did this book have all the requirements for paranormal YA?

Outcast protagonist - check

Hunky romantic interest - check

Vile villain - check

Looks like J.L. Bryan covered all the bases. To sweeten the deal, howeve More...

Jenny Morton was born with a disease that kills. On the day she was born her mother and all the hospital staff died from touching her. As a result, her father raised her to avoid all direct contact with people, and as Jenny learned early on, with just about everything living. Where do I start? I guess with "WOW!!!"

I'm wasn't too sure what to expect from this book. It was highly recommended by the Bookish Brunette Blog and I was intrigued by the premise. There is a glut of books out there with teenagers with special powers, so I was a little leery. But this novel is something altogether different and refreshing.

I would not define it as a young adult novel, or paranormal romance in any way. I wouldn't call it Urban Fantasy either. Hones More...

I picked this book up on a whim because it was a sweet, sweet 99 cents and I ended up being blown away by it. I absolutely loved it and thought everything about it, from the characters to their powers to the dark, dark ending, were fantastic. I can't remember the last time I went into a book with literally no expectations and ended up liking it this much. Actually, I do remember. It wasn't all that long ago, either, but that doesn't take away from the fabulousness of this book in the least. More...
