Authors have a dilemma when attempting to please their readers: if the plot is as believable as possible, the reader will yawn and proclaim it "too predictable", whereas any attempt to throw in a plot twist will likely cause readers to exlaim "too unrealistic and far-fetched". This book somehow managed to avoid that dilemma entirely - it was completely plausible and yet I was surprised by more than a few things.
This would be a 4-star read but I had to deduct a star for More...

A good friend gave me a pile of books recently, including several by Perri O'Shaughnessy. This was my introduction to the O'Shaughnessy books, actually written by two sisters. I think I had avoided reading them on the basis of a vague suspicion that the novels would read as if written by a committee. I couldn't have been more wrong. This first book in their Nina Reilly series is seamless and engrossing.

In this debut, Attorney Nina Reilly is suddenly and surprisingly abandoned by her More...

** "Motion to Supress" (N1) is the first Nina Reilly mystery by 'Peri', sisters Pamela and Mary, O'Shaughnessy. The former graduated Harvard Law, and shows off too much 'file form this' and sit through 'procedure that' for layman me, a pro might appreciate the accuracy. I always like humor, here sisterly banter and an Irish bar song http://www.chivalry.com/cantaria/lyrics/...

MOTION TO SUPPRESS by Perri O'Shaughnessy is 450 pages long in paperback form. This is #1 in the Nina Reilly series.

Brief Description:

THE SUSPECT CONFESSED. NOW HER ONLY HOPE IS A LAWYER WHO BELIEVES SHE LIED.

Misty Patterson only remembered the fight, the polar bear statue she used as a bludgeon, a trail of blood, and the comatose sleep that followed. When she awoke, her husband and the statue were missing. Only the blood was left. She had come to attorney Nina Reil More...

Let me start by saying that I have absolutely nothing negative to say about this book! It was fast-paced, intelligent, suspenseful and exciting, all the way to the very last page!

I first became interested in this novel after reading the cover story of the August 2002 edition of BOOK PAGE about Mary and Pamela O'Shaughnessey ("Sisters in Crime: Career Crossroads turned Siblings into Co-Authors"). These two women are sisters who use the pen name "Perri O'Shaughnessey" More...

Usually I avoid legal thrillers. John Grisham and his ilk conjure images of bad writing filled with purple prose, cheesy cliches and a healthy serving of "Let's get those bastards using our big brains and bad ass legal skills." Add the essentialist and simplistic, one dimensional bimbos...er ... I mean female characters and well, you've lost me. Not even Lisa Scottoline tempts me much even though I prefer her to the others.

That being said, I really enjoyed this book. No More...

Having already read “Unfit to Practice” and enjoying that, I wanted to go back to the beginning of Nina Reilly’s story and get to know the characters a bit better.

In “Motion to Suppress”, we meet Nina in San Francisco, at the end of her marriage, just before she moves herself and her son to Lake Tahoe, where she opens her fledgling law practice. There, she takes on a divorce case for Misty Patterson, a waitress at a local casino. But, when Anthony Patterson is found dead at the botto More...

The book started out real strong, battered woman attacks husband and he goes missing but she has no clue on what happened that night. She blocked it all out and has no memory of the attack. What worked in this book is the legal setting in the courtroom, the case and how it ended. What didn't work was all the side stories, which in a way is setting up the rest of the series?

I enjoyed reading this first book for this book series....nice structure for the books to follow. I was pleased to find that Laural Melington is the narrator for the audiobook..... also love her narration of Michael's Sisterhood series.

I really liked the plot and the intricacies of the characters. Sometimes moved a little slow and there was too much detailing of legal points for my taste but still a really good read. Lovely description of the Lake Tahoe area, too.

Eh, sometimes you just have to go along with the ride. Yeah, sure this is a novel by a beginner, but the entertainment is there to submerge into mindless hours of reading. I guess that’s a good thing. Perri O'Shaughnessy’s Motion to Suppress is a legal mystery drama concerning a client accused of murder which she cannot recall committing. The plot is interesting, but slow moving to an unraveling. The dialogue is paced, but at times disinteresting. Not another John Grisham, but overall not More...

Dissappointimgg book. Slow to start & get going. Wish author had spent more time with the ideas of repressed memorries. I felt the ending was rushed & not well concluded. Verry long book & not satifying.

The book was the first Nina Reilly story so I was glad I finally got to read it as I have read alot of other Nina Reilly books, I felt that it introduced too many characters and could get a little confusing. I also didnt think the book gave enough closure at the end, however having read other books I know they get better
