A Slice of Heaven (The Sweet Magnolias #2)
Dana Sue might run the best little restaurant in Serenity, but when you're feeding a town of neighbors, busybodies and friends, things can get a bit hot in the kitchen. Never mind that she's putting on too many pounds (occupational hazard for a chef)--she's worried about her daughter, Annie, who has been slowly starving herself since the loud, suitcase-tossing fit on her f...more

I didn't enjoy this one as much as I did the first book in this series. I had some problems with the way Annie's disease was portrayed and also I didn't really like the fact that Ronnie and Dana Sue were the romantic couple in this book. I mean... he cheated on her and she's just supposed to forgive that. The whole book as he's trying to get her back he actually had the nerve to yell at her and say "how are we supposed to move on if you keep throwing back in my face what I did" (or something to...more
I think I would have liked this one more had it not seemed like this was an after school special about eating disorders. I realize that it is a big problem, but not sure that I want to read about it in a fluffy romance novel. Annie was so petulant that it got old very fast. I also felt that Dana Sue had double standard in regards to the eating disorder, because she was having her own issues. I also am not a big fan of a divorced couple getting back together. What annoyed me the most of the situa...more

Annie winds in the hospital after having a heart attack at age 16, Ronnie Annie's Dad and Dana Sue's ex comes back to town sooner than he planned with his own agenda getting his family back. Also Annie and Tyler end up getting closer.

In a fictional town of Serenity, California 3 women have grown up together and are still the best of friends to this day. Dana Sue threw Ronnie out after an daffair but now since his daughter was diagnosed with anorexia, he's back for good. He opened up a hardware store by Dana Sue's restaurant Sullivan's and a heath spa for women that her and Helen and Maddie opened up. This story is inspirational because it shows how a young woman can die from not eating properly and how a once broken couple c...more
This has been my favorite so far. My family has had to deal with anorexia also. I went through a lot of what Dana Sue and Ronnie went through. And yes anorexics are very good at hiding it. My daughter had it down pat, baggy clothes, moving food around on a plate to make it look like she was eating. Only I wasn't in denial I just couldn't get the doctor to diagnose her, because she was answering all the questions right. Finally I had enough and took her to Children's hospital where she was diagn...more

This is the second book in the Sweet Magnolias series. Dana Sue Sullivan is one of the Sweet Magnolias introduced in the first book, Stealing Home. She unceremoniously kicked her husband, Ronnie, to the curb 2 years after after he had a one-night-stand with a woman he couldn't even remember. He left because that is what she wanted and his guilt pushed him away. When their 16-year-old daughter lands in the hospital because of anorexia, Ronnie returns to Serenity to bring his family back together....more
I picked this one up at Goodwill because I read Home in Carolina, which is Dana Sue and Ronnie's daughter's story. But I haven't gotten to reading this one, because a lot of what happened in this book was talked about in that story. So, I'm a little hesitant to read this one because I already know the gist of what's going to happen and I know how it's going to end.
A Slice of Heaven is the second book in the Sweet Magnolias series. Sherryl Woods has an entertaining way of getting the reader's attention and focusing it on issues pertinent to today. This book takes two disorders and zeros in on them and their impact on the family, while keeping the reader entertained. She focuses on anorexia and diabetes and the struggles that the patient and the family experience. Although everyone won't experience the particular problem Ronnie and Dana Sue face, the family...more
I give this book 3 1/2 stars. I love the characters and the fictional town of Serenity, SC. This book dealt with a very serious problem which affects many teenage girls: anorexia. Mixed in the story are issues that face many others in real life: diabetes, keeping fit and healthy, loss of trust in loved ones, etc.
This is the third Sweet Magnolia book I have read. Sheryl Woods writes good, fun contemporary romances. She tackles real life topics (weight gain, anorexia), but keeps her sense of humor.
I think I have read too many romances lately. I did not enjoy this one as much as the other ones by Woods that I have read.

Interesting story about the second of the three girlfriends. Like the authors writing about anorexia and how it affects a family. Also liked the 'divorce and remarriage' interaction. Can't wait to see what happens to the third girlfriend.
This book took cheesy to a whole new level for real! And while it was so intense at times it made me cringe, I didn't mind all that much. I have read a few different books by this author and while she is very cheesy most of the time, the stories that aren't are fantastic! So, I forgive her. Can't wait to continue on with the rest of the series.
Dana sue annoyed me a bit. Still I enjoyed this book. I really like Ronnie in this book and enjoyed Erik as well. I read this in an afternoon.
This is Dana Sue's story--it involves reconciliation between ex-spouses and a child with anorexia, and is very well done. Sometimes exes get back together, more often they don't. This is a look at how it might happen that they do.
3.5 stars
It was ok. I thought the romance was sweet, but it fell a little flat.
I'll definitely read the other books in the Magnoila series--I especially love Annie and Ty, they're so cute!

With two other careers to her credit before becoming a novelist and four states in which she's lived for extended periods of time, Sherryl Woods has collected friends and memories, along with way too much unnecessary junk.
