The end had me on the edge of my seat. Could serve as an enjoyable historical fiction. Did not realize Houdini played a role in "unmasking" criminals who faked contact with dearly departed by preying on innocent victims.
Recommended to my by a young patron.

Houdini wasn't just an amazing magician! While he was alive, there were people called "spiritualists" who pretended they could talk to the dead. Spiritualists often convinced people that their dead relatives wanted them to do things that were foolish--such as giving away all their money to the spiritualist! Houdini helped to show how these fakers worked. In this book, Houdini works with a boy named Nate to help show Nate's aunt that she is being fooled by an evil spiritualist. There are lots of ...more

A very clever and unique story that takes the great Harry Houdini and pairs him up with Nate Fuller an awkward yet brave young boy to foil the plans of a diabolical and loathsome phony medium who seeks to swindle and harm the boy's grieving wealthy gullible Aunt Alice for her money. It's a unique and clever idea that puts Houdini, a real person in a fictional tale that is based on fact as the real Houdini did indeed find the then growing trend during his era of séances and spiritualists most of ...more
Danger in the Dark is the story of Nathaniel Makeworthy Fuller IV. Nathan is almost 13 years old when we meet him at the beginning of the story. He is the only son of his widowed mother, Deborah, and they live with Nathan's deaceased father's Aunt Alice--and have since Nathan's birth and his father's death. Aunt Alice has always been a bit severe and it has never been a cheerful home, but with the advent of a new (and frequent) visitor to the home things have turned decidedly worse.

I am a big fan of Harry Houdini. I have noticed a lot of books about his life, and death, have been release within the last 2 years. This is a fictional book that brings Houdini alive in a different aspect. He is acting as a detective to aid a young boy from being disowned and penniless. Houdini was a detective in real life in that he debunked psychics and false mediums during his lifetime. This series is a fun read and interesting for young and old alike.

I liked this fictional story about a boy who works as an assistant in a hat shop, meets the eccentric Harry Houdini there, and ends up enlisting his assistance in a swindling situation involving his elderly aunt. Daniel decided not to finish this one, but I really think he missed the boat - and I'm planning to read it with my library book club next year.

This Book is a really good book for a starter in reading , I read this book and I was amazed throughout every chapter and always wondering what will happened next. Danger in the dark is very entertaining and I will have my classmates read it.
This was a fun little book! Historical fiction, action, debunking of ghosts... All very interesting. I liked the characters, and it was easy to get into. I devoured this short little book and hope to convince my nephews to read it sometime.
