Buried deep in a ravine in the picturesque Smoky Mountains is a very dark secret. David Hobbs, vacationing with his wife Miriam, inadvertently stumbles upon a small cloth 'keepsake' bag and a broken tooth. A human tooth. Miriam begs David to hand the bag and tooth over to park officials, but he ignores his wife's pleas and secretly keeps the 'harmless' items. The action op...more

This book is one of a series and is entitled Cades Cove: The Curse of Allie Mae. The story line is that of a young girl, Allie Mae, whose angry spirit comes to terrorize the Hobbs family after the parents, David and Miriam, have a romantic interlude in a Cades Cove ravine. While there, they find a small bag stitched with “Allie Mae’s Treasures,” and despite David’s intention of turning it in to the park authorities, he finds himself unable to do so. That’s where the “fun” begins.

Allie Mae recog...more

HORRIBLE! The protagonist stumbles across a mystery 100 years old and blah, blah, blah…it’s stupid. The dialog is totally unoriginal. The main characters seem to be talking to each other in sound bites from a bad movie trailer and I wanted to pull my hair out. It was all,
“Love you, babe.”
“Love you too, babe. I’m afraid of the evil in our house.”
“I know, babe. I’ll get to the bottom of this.”
“Okay. I love you, babe.”

Puke. The characters themselves were incredibly flat and while the concept be...more

I love any books set in the southern Appalachians, and this one did not disappoint. In many ways it reminded me of the "Ballad Novels" by Sharyn McCrumb, with old legends or events overlapping with current times. In this case they did more than overlap, the old event became a current manifestation of the past. While vacationing in the Smokey Mountains of eastern Tennessee, David and Miriam Hobbs take one day to visit a little-seen ravine in Cade's Cove where a small keepsake bag is found. Instea...more

I'll stack up to the "well at least I got what I paid for" pile. It was a free download, actually a group of 3 books and I liked the other 2 in the package fairly well. At least all I lost was time, but it was a fair amount of time because this book was long. Some of the characters were reasonably well developed but not as much as I would have liked, especially since this was a fairly long book. The author pretty much put all of his energy into plot and even the plot got rather repetitive. It's...more

Are you looking for a good read with chills and sounds that go bump in the night? Then Aiden James' Cades Cove is the book for you.

A couple head to the mountains near Gatlinburg, Tennessee to strengthen their marriage and bring a spark back to it. While in Cades Cove, they discover a pouch of trinkets and a partially written name on a tree. That night, noises are heard in the house. The odd happenings follow them home to Colorado where the noises turn into something much more dangerous. Now thei...more

I wasn't sure what to think of the book during the first few chapters. I just wasn't able to get too involved with the characters however once we got past the first couple of chapters the action started and the book turned out to be fairly good. The over all story is very good and it definitely kept my attention with the mix of history, paranormal and everyday daily struggles. The book ends with intrigue so you know that another book will be following (and of course the teaser chapter that follo...more

Although the premise isn't extremely original, Mr. James manages to infuse his story with enough twists, turns and chills to give it a fresh feel. He makes you care about his characters, so much so that I need to read the second book in the series. Not only to find out what happens, but because I enjoyed spending time with these people. Good job, Mr. James!

I really liked this book. I probably liked it a lot more than normal because I ended up reading most of it during a blackout, and there is nothing better than being snuggled under the covers with a flashlight and a ghost story. Granted, the dialog wasn't the best, but it really wasn't the worst I've ever read.

The plot is very basic: a couple becomes haunted by a vengeful spirit after taking a small bag that belonged to the ghost. However, the people in the family are not who the ghost thinks the...more

Loved it!! It was fun reading about an area that I am familiar with. It totally makes me want to visit Cades Cove again soon. The characters are so well written they could be your next door neighbors. While reading, I found myself experiencing a plethora of emotions... sadness, affection, sorrow, fear, suspense, anger, contempt, happiness, and sheer joy for spending time with such a wonderful book. I also loved how Indian folklore was woven into the story. Hoping to read more of that in the next...more

Cades Cove is the Scariest book I have read in a very very long time... a pure terrorizing Ghost Story! Aiden James Brings the characters Of David and Miriam Hobbs and their Children to life in such a way that you feel their terror! In the Beginning you hate the Ghost of Allie Mae and the pain she brings on the Hobbs Family and their friends.. but as the story unwinds and you learn about the Brutal death of Allie Mae and how it connects to David and his family... even David cries for her spirit....more

Seen Poltergeist? Read your fair share of ghost stories? Then do yourself a favor Nf pass on this one. There's absolutely nothing original and very little that's even borderline scary in this supposed "novel of terror." in many sections, it feels as if the author is purposely trying to pad in order to give the book more heft. This is particularly true of sections containing conversations. Endless exposition and boringly trite talk dint make for a compelling read. Although the book starts interes...more

Interesting story, overshadowed by the WORST WRITING EVER. I can't seem to just give up on it, but it is excruciatingly painful. I have no idea how it's gotten such good reviews. The author apparently has no idea how grammar works. And he insists on narrating every move each character takes. If they step from the kitchen into the livingroom he has to tell you where they ended up standing. It's like reading stage directions. And if one more person smirks or snickers, I will spontaneously combust....more

I loved this book and Aiden James is one of my new favorite authors. the story grabbed me from the beginning and at times i had to turn on the light in the bedroom, it was that scary.
Aiden James is just a fantastic author, he fleshes out his characters and story. You care about this family and root for them to get rid of Allie Mae, who is an evil little wench:)
The story begins while a couple, David and Miriam Hobbs take a romantic weekend anniversary getaway. they find an old keepsake bag in a r...more

I really enjoy books set in the southern Appalachians. This one was no exception. Overall, it was a fun, spooky read. There was one character and one scene that I don't think added much to the story, and I did figure out part of the mystery about half way through. Even so, there were enough twists that I found the book hard to put down. I've already downloaded the next book in the series. I guess that's why they offer free ebooks...to get you hooked.

This was the first book by Aiden James that I have read and I want to say that this book was really amazing.I can't even think of one thing that I didn't like in this book. I loved the descriptions that he gave about the area. The details that he gave us about Allie Mae and her anger were outstanding. I had to make a trip to that area while reading this book and honestly felt the hair stand up on the back of my neck just for seeing a sign pointing towards Cades Cove. Any book that makes me get...more

This was a good read. It kept me on the edge, even though I figured out what happened to the ghost (and kept telling the main character what happened} (Which he didn't listen to me)it was still an interesting and exciting read. I liked the character development and how the story flowed. I am going to get the next one and hopefully it will be just as interesting. This book was free on my Kindle Fire so I figured if I didn't like it no loss. Try it if you like a ghostly mystery.

Didn't know what to expect with this book. It (and it's sequel) were free for Kindle. It was great. This may have been the scariest book I have ever read. I have read over twenty Stephen King books but this one is far scarier than any of King's that I have read. This is also a great read for anyone who is familiar with eastern TN.

It is very well written and the creepiness starts almost at the beginning. If you want a genuinely scary book, give it a shot.

Brilliant books read the whole trilogy one after each other and couldn't put it down. It was traumatising at times and kept you on the edge of your seat biting finger nails!absolutely well written thought out and scary even though you know it's a book. If you've ever been in redneck country in the states you'll know what I mean when I say you could imagine it happening.

A nice ghost story. Somewhat standard fare with the revenge seeking ghost attacking the heirs, but nicely written and a good tie-in with the Native American mysticism. Ends with opening up the possibility of a major outbreak of occult incidents to come. This could get interesting and would HAVE to delve more into the Native American histories.

An artifact taken from a secluded valley in the Smokey Mountains during a weekend getaway causes disturbing consequences. A vengeful spirit follows David and his wife home, disrupting the lives of their family and friends.
While attempting to return the artifact, David and a Native American park ranger research the area's history and discover a disturbing link between David's ancestors and the spirit. With the help of his new friend he sets out to try and make amends.

I used to live in Knoxville, and Smokey Mountains National Park is a beauty. Cades Cove is gorgeous, and having visited there, I wanted to read this book. I think the characters are a little 2 dimensional myself, but no question that the story moves fast and it is scary a la Steven King! Entertaining! I would likely read another in the series.

Loved this. The scenes written about the area around Cades Cove made me feel like I was there again (grew up in the area). Strong characters, good plot and enough scare to make me look outside everytime the dog barked.

Good read and I can't wait to start the sequel.

I was pleasantly surprised with this book. I generally find books that are supposed to be "Scary" to be ho-hum at best. But this story had me hanging on to the end. I was never sure where it was going or what the next twist would be.

This book was wonderfully written. There is always the suspense of what is going to happen next. It grabbed my attention at the beginning and did not let go all through the book. Wow! One if the best books I've read in a while!

This was a great book, especially for a free download! It had lots of spooky moments which had the hairs on my neck standing up, and the characters were believable. I will be reading the other 2 books in the series, I need to know what happens!! :)

I've been getting into thrillers and wow, I loved this one! I couldn't put it down but finally couldn't keep my eyes open. So I finished it last night. Looking forward to the 2nd book in this series.

I couldn't get into this even though we had just come back from Gatlinburg and had been to Cades Cove. There were too many words and too many extraneous details. I got to 17% and didn't really like any character.
Meg
I bought this book because it was about ghosts. I don't think it was scary, but I appreciate that the author doesn't leave any questions as to why things happened to this family.

This was well written. Definitely did not want to put it down, each page left you wanting to know what was gonna happen next. The end of the book was so very unexpected, and I was eager to start the next book in the series to see where it leads.
