She also learned that in her society as well as American society as a whole, when it comes to social class, the white middle class people are first followed by the white p...more

Atticus Finch was a good model of moral integrity, and I plan on giving a WWAFD approach to my future decision making.
I find it so painful to try to wrap my head around why people get on the way they do, and choose to disapprove of a certain "type" of people, and treat them so unfairly- women, homosexuals, non-white races. Even while attempting to go through the actions of just, moral, and fair decision making- such as the court system- bias and prejudice prevail. People seem to be very selectiv...more

I read this book many years ago. I just now read it for our book group. Reading it as a parent was much different.

I have read and loved this book but now I am listening to an audio version and am loving the story even more. The audio book I am listening to is narrated by Sissy Spacek and she is charming. Her southern accent is melodious and never tiring; she really brings a great voice to Scout and all of the other fantastic characters.

This is a well-written, thought-provoking book about racism in the South during the Great Depression. It's one of my favorite classics, but just be aware that there is some swearing and mature elements in it.
