Stunning aerial photography of the arctic lands deserves a five-star rating. This beautiful collection is well worth "reading," especially given the ravages to this landscape and its ecosystems, brought on so dramatically by climate change.

Why the three-star rating? Well . . . because photographer Robert Haas didn't really make the case for his title. The Vikings had little to do with the photo-essay, except that a millennium ago, they wandered these seas. Haas traveled by helicopter, not a Vik

Thus book is recommended in connection with a Smithsonian Journeys trip to the Kennedy, the Shetlands,and Norway. I don't really see why. The photos are definitely striking, but the majority are from Alaska and western Canada. The title does not make sense.
