The longer the resistance…

Seven years ago, on the eve of her wedding, proper Lady Jessica Sheffield witnessed a licentious scene no innocent young miss could imagine. Shocked, yet strangely titillated, she’d held her silence regarding scandalous Alistair Caulfield, and walked down the aisle as expected. But through years of serene, unremarkable marriage, Caulfield’s image...more

Stacia ~ Mistress of Mediocrity
I was just chatting with a friend today about when you read a book and it works out good enough for the moment. This is probably how I'm feeling about Seven Years to Sin. The book was a pleasant read - full of great sexual chemistry and a sweet love story about two people finding love after overcoming past loss.

The start of this tale had me grinning mischievously when a very naughty voyeuristic scene happened right off the bat. I knew the stage was being set for a future series of events that w...more

“If I could… I would remain like this indefinitely – clasped by you, held inside you, a part of you – without moving at all. When we make love, I fight climax with everything I have. I don’t want to come; I do not want it to end. No matter how long I make it last, it isn’t nearly long enough…. Tell me you understand,” he demanded, his lips moving beneath hers. “Tell me you feel it, too.”
“I feel you,” She breathed… “You have become everything to me.”

“You and I have always been inevitable. And I am not a man to take pieces of a whole. I must have everything. The good as well as the bad.”

I read this book because of how much I LOVED Bared to You (by the same author) and when I heard that this was the book that inspired her to write it, I really couldn’t resist reading it.

First off, you should know that, unlike Bared to You, this is a historical novel. As many of you know, that’s not exactly a genre I read much of and I’ll have to admit, it...more

Seven Years to Sin by Sylvia Day

Alistair Caulfield has harbored a love for Lady Jessica Sheffield for many years, but many factors made that love unattainable. He being younger, and the 4th son of a duke and duchess, there was no role for him. Alistair is quite a free spirit, making his own way in the world at a young age and building his own fortune by whatever means necessary.

On the eve of Jessica’s wedding, she is walking her dog for the evening and comes across Alistair engaged in a lechero...more

I was asked by a friend, if i wanted to join in on reading this book because apparently the main couple, Alistair and Jessica were the author's inspiration for Bared to You (a contemporary romance), which i had recently read and enjoyed. This is what is considered a Regency romance, which is typically not a genre that has ever "called to me"..simply because i'm not really a fan of historicals, of any kind..but i was curious so i gave it a shot!

I can't say that i'm any more sold on Regency romanc...more

I loved the characters especially the passionate and heart baring Alistair. He never wavered, never strayed, he gave his heart to Jess and no matter the obstacles he faced he was too in love to ever give her up. Sylvia Day writes some of the hottest historicals I have ever read and it is very true with this story too. I felt the first half was a little slow, but still good. Once they returned to England it just took off for me. Also the secondary love story between Hester and Michae...more

The night before Jessica Sheffield is to be married, her pug Temperance leads her on a merry journey through the woods to find the perfect spot to piddle. Said spot happens to be near a gazebo—one that is… quite occupied. When the moon reveals to her who exactly is fornicating in said gazebo, her startled gasp catches Alistair Caulfield’s attention.

From the moment that their eyes lock, something within both of them changes. Jessica is awakened to desires and urges sh...more

NOTE: I have never read Sylvia Day before but after Sever Years to Sin, I will be picking up her back list! It was that darn good!

What I Loved: I am going to try to do this without giving anything away, so please forgive me in advance for being mysterious. Seven Years to Sin has all the elements I love in my historical reads: romance, adventure, family problems,...more

Seven years ago, Lady Jessica Sheffield witnessed a scandalous act on her wedding day that engraved itself in her mind, never to be forgotten. Years later, she meets Alistair Claufield again and those memories boil to the surface, heating her from the inside out.

Now a widow, Jessica tries to deal with her grief by busying herself with other duties. She boards a ship to the West Indies and this is where Alistair makes his move.

The first and major thing I must point out a...more

3.5 stars. This was a pretty good read. The beginning had me sitting up to take notice. The hero had a really unique character. You rarely see a hero portrayed as a man selling his favors for money and having to face the consequences of shame for living such a life in his past. I also appreciated the fact that the heroine was loved by her husband before he died. I’m so sick and tired of every dead wife and dead husband of the heroes and heroines in all romance novels being the worst spouse imagi...more

I've been searching for a word to describe this book and I think I'm going to settle on delicious!.

This is my first foray into Historical Novels and who best to guide me through my first time than Sylvia Day, and guide me she did!.

I was consumed by this book and couldn't put it down and for two days it felt like I was in the moment, the Era and the story itself.

Everything was described so well from the clothing to the setting that in my minds eye I could picture the whole story and it was breat...more

To me, there were actually two different stories being told. One is of Lady Jessica & Alistair Caufield and the other of Jessica's sister, Hester, & Michael, a long time friend of Alistair's and Lady Jessica's brother-in-law.

Alistair has had his eyes on Jessica for as long as he can remember. Unfortunately, his station in life would not make a suitable match for Lady Jessica. Plus, she has already been betrothed to Viscount Benedict Sinclair. On the eve of her weddin...more

I found Jessica to pretty interesting. She and her younger sister, Hester, were physically abused by their father. She's now widowed and has developed a drinking problem over the years. She seems to do a pretty good job of staying away from it.

I liked Hester's story much more than Jessica's and Alistair's. Hester is twenty-three and in an abusive marriage to Edward. Edward has a drinking problem, which makes their marriage a nightmare. Hester is terribly unhappy and it shows in her appearance.

Very enjoyable. There were so many things I liked about the book. I liked the fact that the hero was the one that has loved the heroine from afar for years. I liked that the heroine didn't take pages and pages and pages to get over any kind of sense of guilt or what have you in order to start a relationship with the hero. The author did tremendous in portraying their feelings for one another using only thoughts and emotions and actions. I felt what they felt. Those are my favorite kind of books....more

I actually found Jessica's sister subplot more interesting and intriguing than the main story line, which I found borderline dull.

Overall, the book was well written and entertaining, but I must say that I like my historical romance with less love scenes and more engaging conversation or interesting plot-line. It just seemed that they were constantly going at it and going at it, and it began to border on the grotesque after awhile (but not as bad- or as good depending on your perspective- as Feat...more

Quick & Dirty: A tantalizing tale of lovers who have been apart too long. Steamy scenes ahead!

Opening Sentence: There was something irresistibly exciting about watching athletic males engaged in physical combat.

I so wish there was a second book about Jessica and Alistair! I'm sad that it's not one in a trilogy.

I thought the story was great and the characters were described well. This book is supposed to be the one that inspired "Bared to You" I can definitely see Alistair in Gideon Cross. Same guy, really.
"Seven Years to Sin" was refreshing in that it didn't have the same plot line as all the new contemporary erotic romance books that are out right now. All though I am a fan of all these new books co...more

A fantastic book!

Jessica lives in a repressed world where woman are accessories and men dominate everything. She’s worked hard to suppress her true self in order to fit into 1800’s London high society. Jessica manages to marry a man who adores her and lives a respectable life.

Alistair has always been high society’s rogue and misfit. As the forth son he will not inherit a title or prestige. He lives life on his own terms.

Jessica and Alistair share a fleeting erotic moment on her wedding night bu...more

On the day of her wedding Lady Jessica Sheffield watches as the decedent and indecent Alistair plays with his latest paramour in the gazebo; all the while keeping contact with her eyes, with her soul. Running into her betrotheds arms, Jessica all but throws herself to him, begging to be taken even before the vows are read. With her beloved Benedict gone a year now it is time for Jessica to take care of business, planning to head back to the island and the plantation her husband had left to her....more

I enjoyed Seven Years to Sin immensely!

Jessica & Alistair have a rather shocking encounter at the beginning of the book, the night before she is to wed Benedict. Speaking of Benedict, (view spoiler)[ I was pretty sure he was going to be a horrible husband to Jessica so I was very pleasantly surprised that he ended up being a great guy and that he and Jessica had a good marriage. That was refreshing. Most authors would have had them have a loveless marriage. (hide spoiler)]

Seven Years to Sin by Sylvia Day

Seven Years to Sin penned by the prolific and famous author Sylvia Day is an high-spirited love story that will vibrate the depth of th readers heart and soul. There is lot to recommend this book...

...Hot sex. I'll get that right out of the way. Sylvia Day was the very first writer I'd ever read where I noticed that some historical romances were getting much more explicitly sexual. She always manages to write hot sexy scenes without them sounding, well, over the top crude.

...Great heroine back-story. Jessica, the heroine, was physically abused, is barren and likes to drink a little too much.

...Great hero back-story. Alistair the hero is the (bastard)...more

Seven Years to Sin is a Joyfully Recommended Read

Lady Jessica Sheffield has been in mourning for a year and she’s finally ready to move on with her life. Her marriage resulted from an arrangement but she was happy. Jessica may not have felt passionate sparks for her husband like the ones she felt the night she spied Alistair Caulfield in a compromising position with another but she was content. Jessica’s husband left her the place she loved the most and now she is going to return there.

I loved pretty much everything about this book. The plot was engrossing and the characters were delightful. I enjoyed the idea of a mature, sexually aware woman being on equal ground with her male counterpart. I also loved the fact that her marriage was a happy one, which is typically not the case in these types of stories. Yes, there was the tragic back story, but I was very pleased with the fact that the heroine had mostly overcome her past before falling into the hero's bed. Because, well, I...more

I reviewed this novel for Romance Reader At Heart website:

RRAH's THOUGHTS AND PONDERINGS:

I can honestly state that this is one of the hottest prologues I’ve ever read!

Lady Jessica Sheffield grew up in an abusive home, so it is no wonder that to our hero, she always appeared ‘cool as a marble statue’. In trying to protect herself as well as her younger sister, this young woman learned early on that hiding her emotions and suppressing her passions was essential to her survival. On the evening b...more

Slightly predictable but still liked the chemistry between Jess and Alistair. They seemed to see beyond the public persona that each gave the rest of the world and brought out more complex elements in the other. And they actually had conversations about their feelings! They also were not perfect people and had difficult pasts that they disclosed to one another fairly early in their relationship. I liked that they used the other to help them grow beyond their pasts. I did sometimes get a cognitiv...more

Because I loved Bared to You I decided to try out some other Sylvia Day books while waiting for the sequel to that. Thus I picked up Seven Years to Sin, and I'm very glad that I did. It's damn good. Really it's everything I want in a erotic historical romance: It's spicy and the love scenes are steamy. The historical details enhance the setting and don't distract from the action (seriously, some books I just want to yell "Get on with it!" when it turns into describing every last dress detail, bu...more

“I feel you,” she breathed, as intoxicated by his ardency as she was by the finest claret. “You have become everything to me.”
