The last time I enjoyed a book this much was the Guernsey Ladies Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. I love Smith's No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency books for their lyrical prose and their gentle glimpse of everyday life in one African country. But I don't like his other series. But this book--not part of any series--is another story entirely. The prose is lovely--simple and yet evocative. The love story is gentle and unpredictable. This is a real story about a real person dealing with real life ...more
