My aunt gave this to me to read..I of course hate Dan Brown but I figure it'd be fast and I could thank her for it, mention some interesting tidbits that are no doubt sprinkled throughout the book for idiots, and feel good about family duty. There is not one paragraph that is close to some acceptable literary decency. In 2 pages he found it ok to mention coffee 5 times. No, not fun tidbits about the history of coffee but just as action filler: 'blah blah blah,' he said while he stirred his coffe More...

The formula is pretty simple:
Big Mystery + Male Protagonist + Female Protagonist + Code to Solve + OMG TRAITOR WITH TWISTED MOTIVES = Best Selling Novel.

And it's worked, so I guess we can't hate on him too much. There are people who swear his books are the best thing they've ever read -- I certainly wouldn't say that. But they are successful and I have to confess, even I like them, and when it comes to books I am Picky with a most definite capital P.

DECEPTION POINT – VG
Brown, Dan – 2nd book, Stand Alone

Struggling to rebound from a series of embarrassing blunders that have jeopardized its political life at the start of this lively thriller, NASA makes an astounding discovery: there is a meteor embedded deep within the arctic ice. And it isn't just any meteor. Inside the huge rock, which crashed to earth in 1716, are fossils of giant insects proof of extraterrestrial life. Yet, given NASA's slipping reputation, the question More...

After I read The DaVinci Code, which I liked, and Angels and Demons, which I loved I put the other Dan Brown books on my wish list. I was recently sent this one as part of a bookring and decided to read it.

Rachel Sexton works for the National Reconnaissance Office as an intelligence officer. She is also the daughter of a Senator currently running for President. Her father's main offensive, and a very popular one, against the incumbent President is to attack the huge amount of NASA fu More...

I borrowed this from my father-in-law; like nearly everyone else, I'd read The Da Vinci Code earlier this year & was interested in seeing what else Brown had done.

Rachel Sexton, a data analyst/gister for the National Reconnaissance Office, is asked by the President of the United States to go on a rather unusual (and very secret) mission. She finds this odd, as her estranged father is currently running against the current President. This mission takes her to Antarctica, where she is More...

Akhirnya tuntas sudah 4 buku Dan Brown. Semuanya oke punya.

Mas Dan, kapan-kapan ketemuan yuuuk he he he...

I am now thinking how Vermont shares so many brilliant writers. Kip More...

This is a real page turner. Quite an easy read that pulls the reader in with a fascinating plot, the occasional twist, and an energy to his writing that keeps one thinking where the story is leading to. Dan Brown manages to paint a vivid picture of the characters and surroundings, without laboring on details. Highly recommended.

This is the third book by Dan Brown that I have read (the other two being The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons) and I think by now it's safe to say that I don't like him as an author.

This book, like the others, reads too much like a Hollywood script for me (in fact I can totally see this being made into a movie). It's not necessarily a bad thing I guess, just not to my personal taste. Also, if you've read other books by him you'll know what to expect: a male and a female protag More...

I have now read all four of Dan Brown's books(author of The Da vinci Code. And like the other three, Deception Point followed the Dan Brown formula. In all books the main male character is a white, good looking very intelligent man with a broken heart from loves past. The main female character is white, attractive, very intelligent and always knows the right moments to be vulnerable or strong. The sub-characters are all short, fat, ethnic, homosexual, eccentric, and disposable.

Deception Point didn't really get interesting until about 170 pages in, and I almost gave up on it. Despite this, I'm glad I didn't, but it isn't as good as the Da Vinci Code or Angels and Demons. The parallels with his other characters in these books as well, annoyed me quite a lot. In the Da Vinci Code Robert Langdon has claustrophobia and has to overcome his fear; he also gets thrown together with two intelligent, attractive women in both the Da Vinci Code and its prequel. In Deception Point, More...

This is one of the few books I wanted to throw across the room. Especially when the protagonist starts tapping Morse code out on the iceberg to attract the patrolling nuclear submarine. Give me a break.

i'm not a big fan of the "thriller" genre, but an ex-boyfriend left this book in my suitcase once and I decided to give it a go. it was an extremely quick and easy read, and was entertaining enough for me not to throw it out.

like most books of this caliber, it contains the following:

a rugged, sexy, recenlty widowed or divorced guy with highly specialized job.

a super smart, beautiful woman who has a great job (lawyer, doctor, politician, etc) and who More...

Dal More...

Why you ask? Hell people, I read Clive Cussler and David Gibbins—what do you expect? These books are like desert (at a fancy restaurant—not my house). You read them for the sugar content and comparison. Then, when you start something by, lets say, Cormac McCarthy, you remember ‘Deception Point’ and congratulate yourself ‘ah—the English language will survive and your brain just may not have turned to pudding.’

But here’s the caveat: before it was popular to hate Dan Brown and that whol More...

dear reader,

My first Dan Brown novel. It kept me turning from page to page, thrilled by the action and fast paced plot. Lost by everything that was going on at once for more times I can care to count. Baffled at the new information the author was hurling at me all at once. Confused by the sudden and unexpected plot twists. And frustrated at the stupidity of human simpleness when reasoning possible motives for the death of their comrades or whatever.

The twist and motives f More...

Oh, you know...it's Dan Brown. Akin to a blockbuster action film--not much substance there, but thrilling and entertaining nonetheless. This one was creeps, not freaks (I hate the word freak, but that was too catchy to not include, lol), unlike DaVinci Code, Angels and Demons, etc. The creeps were government officials. The novel begs the question of whether or not (and to what extreme) it is "right" to do something wrong for a greater good. No religious weirdos here, or mystic occ More...

I'm actually giving this book three and a half stars.

I went into it pretty skeptical. There are two things I could say about Dan Brown, based on his other books: 1, he can come up with amazingly interesting, page-turner plots and 2, somewhere along the way he manages to lose you in the writing. The Davinci Code certainly had its "Ummm... WHERE was that set up?!" moments. Angels and Demons and Digital Fortress almost sounded like the same book to me, right down to the long-l More...

Absolutely wonderful. I'm saying that right at the beginning.

I love this Dan Brown book so much to the point of fangirling. I think this is Mr. Brown at his best and perhaps his more underrated books out of everything he's published so far. I also have no idea why it's not being made into series. Perhaps that's a good thing because too much of a good thing can make the magic disappear, but I think I could live with one or two more Michael Tolland book.

I give props for t More...

Actually, this book for me is like 3.5. I liked it, I enjoyed it... but I think something was missing. I dunno, maybe because the first half of the book you're in one place, and in the second half you're in another place.
I liked the relationship between Rachel Sexton and Michael Tolland, BUT I don't understand how he could replace his wife in a very little time; I mean, there was visual contact on each other, but it was more about keeping them safe.

Plot: Rachel Sexton is a senator’s daughter and is hired by the president to confirm an important Nasa find. But as expected in a Dan Brown novel, it’s not all that it seems and some important people have important secrets up their sleeves.

Characters: Rachel is a bright and likeable heroine, Michael Tolland the gallant and heart-wrenching hero. They’re predictable but nice enough characters who keep you wanting more. But you don’t really mind if something bad happens to them – which it doesn’t.

My four stars may have something to do with the fact that I am moving from Texas. And as such, I am leaving behind family. I'm an emotional wreck...feeling sort of gutted, actually. I'll keep my review for this book short and sweet. Once you've read one Dan Brown book you've read them all, they all contain more or less the same plot and how good the book is is based on how much usefull info. Mr. Brown gives us. The first half of Deception point is great and shapes up to have more potential than your adverage Brown novel. AFter that though things take a turn for the worst when Brown starts using all his old Cliches. Nothing suprised me and though I'm still thirty pages from More...

Before I have read any Dan Brown books I have only heard good things about his writting. I decided to see what all the hub-bub was about, but I figured I should not start with the Robert Langdon series because I may be biased due to how much I enjoyed the movie adaptations (you can do no wrong with Tom Hanks). So my Dan Brown choices for a first read were limited and Deception Point was the winner, and after I read it, I think I became the winner; the book was amazing. The amount of research/sci More...

Dan Brown, like Michael Crichton and John Grisham, is one of my default authors for easy-reading fast-paced thrillers. Deception Point doesn’t disappoint: it reads like a Hollywood movie, the kind you want to watch for the special effects and not necessarily for the artistry of the auteur.

But drawing a reader in, hooking him from chapter to chapter, giving him a world he can slip into, is artistry in itself. And besides, like these Hollywood blockbusters, writers like Dan Brown get the More...
