Dark Memories, the second book in The Phantom Diaries series, continues where the first book leaves off. The unique thing about this book is it starts off with Eric’s Diary. The dark presence in Annette’s life has completely taken over her life and set on destroying everything. Annette, is described as “beautiful beyond reason” – I think Megan Fox, but kind, sweet, with an innocence that is rare, and a natural singing talent that allows her to hit the highest and lowest notes – I think Taylor Sw...more

I really really wanted to like this book. The first book was very decent and I was hoping this book would be just as good. I don't feel like I got any of the pieces to the puzzle. It was just a bunch of story around the love triangles (and I do say more than one triangle). I wanted some small pieces to the haunting and the mystery. This series started out so well but I find this book, just lacking.

Better than the first book. It was a nice change to have the story told from the perspective of some of the other characters, not just Annette, whom I still can't bring myself to like. She seems awfully selfish, stupid and self absorbed in her dealings with the men in her life, and I just can't believe that all of these fantastic men would put up with it. Her reaction to her cliffhanger ordeal from the last book is almost nonexistant. Come on. Really? Kailin Gow has created a completely unrealis...more
Dark Memories was the perfect complement to The Phantom Diaries. Annette’s body has been possessed by Kristine, a family member from the past.
She is sultry, worldly and knows her way around a bedroom. She once was the lead in the opera at the original opera house that was brought from France and Eric wrote his deep heartfelt music just for her.
She pitted Eric against Rupert, the owner of the opera house and she destroyed lives trying to achieve the things she wanted in life not by hard work and...more

The suspense keeps going with the sequel to The Phantom Diaries. As the connection between Kristine and Annette become clear and fate has a way of coming back and playing its part, the twists and turns in Dark Memories left me wanting more. Aarons apparent love for Annette is evident, but Eric still holds a piece of her heart that she cannot deny. Kailin continues to keep me entranced and captivated with this modern twist on the Phantom of The Opera. As questions become answered more questions p...more
More drama, more reflection, more characters and development is why I think Dark Memories follows Phantom Diaries beautifully. The character development is so complete, you feel you know Annette and Eric so well. Even Chace has won a place in my heart and he is so unlike the run-of-the-mill boys in YA novels. I can feel his heartbreak. Having read two books by Ms. Gow, like many others, I've become a fan of hers.
Finished Phantom Diaries a week ago. I was drawn into the story and have come to love the characters. Not a heavy read, but a dramatic romance that holds true to the opera. Dark Memories continues the story of Annette and the cast of characters I've come to care for, especially Eric. Any details here about the plot of this sequel will reveal spoilers in the first book. Phantom Diaries had a fantastic ending that gets solved in Dark Memories. Readers will be happily satisfied with this ending.

If Phantom Diaries is about passion and torment, Dark Memories is about substance and the need for identity. What a remarkable journey Annette goes through in order to discover who she is and how she plays into Eric and Aaron's world. Eric and Aaron are equally matched here, while Chace tugs at my heartstrings. This series is complex, the characters radiate in their individualness. No stereotypes here, but characters who come alive for me. I highly recommend this series and Dark Memories.
While the first book, Phantom Diaries, swept me up in the drama, romance, and mystery; Dark Memories continues the romance, but digs deeper into the backstory of the Eric, Aaron, and Annette. We see a softer side of Eric and a deeper braver Annette. Chace and Eric wins me over, but I can't help feeling for Aaron too.
