At 25, Serena has given up hope of ever finding love or a husband. But she is a loyal sister and is determined to help her step-sister Charity make a match with the Earl of Savege. Of course, Serena has no idea that it's the Earl she has come across in a dark parlour, just before Charity is to meet the man. Sparks fly the second Serena and Alex meet. And the two share some passionate moments without ever exchanging names. When they come face-to-face at Alex's introduction to Charity, they are st ...more

This was a fun, swashbuckling adventure. It started off really strong, but was a bit over the top for my taste at the end. To Katharine's credit though, she always managed to surprise me in this tale and it kept me turning pages.

Serena and Savege belonged together. Their chemistry was palpable and their personalities were a great fit. I felt that they were kept apart a bit too long, but this style of angst seems to be a favorite of Ashe's...while it isn't quite perfect here, she has created a pe
Just once, I should like to read a book set in the West Country that doesn't involve smugglers. The words "Devon" or "Cornwall" guarantee there will be: an unwise midnight rendezvous on a sandy beach; running up and down cliffs; a family member caught up with the Gentlemen; and a higher-than-usual quotient of knowing locals. CBARL doesn't disappoint - at least, not on that front.

Katharine Ashe has written a couple of books I've rated highly (I Married the Duke and I Adored a Lord) and her writi

I reviewed this book for Romance Reader At Heart website.

My first clue to the quality of writing and editing of this book should have been the blurb on the back of it. The second sentence--"Firmly on the shelf at twenty-five, instead she's determined to find the perfect match for her beautiful younger sister. "--has the word `INSTEAD,' which frankly should not be there. It makes no sense. Take the word out, and now we have a comprehensible sentence. This sentence--"Now Serena can beg his help i

Well done, Katharine Ashe! You kept everything I enjoyed about book 1 - mainly, your superb writing style - but kicked it up a notch with lovable characters I couldn't help but cheer for this time.

I adored the heroine, Serena Carlyle, especially: smart, loyal, daring, imaginative. Her periodic flights of fancy were utterly charming and, I suspect, something every creative writer can empathize with. Ashe successfully pulls off a difficult characterization - that of a innocent wanton - without mak

LOVED it - one of my new faves from Katharine Ashe - full review coming soon!
Sıkılmadan kendini okutan bir kitaptı . Zaman zaman bende bıraktığı en güçlü duygu ise üvey annesi Davina yı evden kovma isteğiydi . Ilk kitapla kıyaslama yapacak olursam daha zayıftı diyebilirim ;)

I've had a bunch of 'meh'-reads in the historical romance genre. This is not one of them! Gosh, I absolutely loved it! Katharine Ashe knows how to write good romance!
I'd never read anything by her before, but I have got to check out her other books!

I love it when I feel like gushing about a book, can you tell? ;)

The pirate Redstone and the Earl of Savege are both Alex - Alex Savege. Alex Savege and Serena Carlyle have a chance encounter and are smitten with one another. But Serena finds out that Alex is betrothed to her younger sister Charity. Is Alex and Serena's love doomed?
This is a book that I won at a pirate workshop at the RT Booklovers' Convention in 2011 in Los Angeles, and I was SO excited to have won it. This was the first book of Katherine Ashe's that I'd ever read, and I was impressed by t

My review originally posted on Joyfully Reviewed:

Serena Carlyle knows that the life most aristocratic daughters expect to have will never be for her. At twenty-five, Serena is firmly on the shelf and her goal for this particular season is to ensure that her stepsister, Charity, isn't pushed into an unhappy engagement by her mother. Though, to be honest, the Earl of Savage – the man Charity's mother wants her to marry – could be the perfect bridegroom for

This was so gorgeously romantic...

He didn’t begin to deserve her. Not then. Not yet. But by God, he would taste her kiss again. He would become worthy of the greatest endeavor of his life or he would die trying.

Alex Savege is the ultimate rake; oh, but gorgouesly so. He is intriguingly handsome and has the most devilishly gorgeous smile. Serena was a lovable heroine. She's your average girl: a dreamer, a hopeless romantic. But she's also brave and tough, and I loved her determination to capture

Serena Carlyle is bound and determined that if she can't have a happy marriage (she is firmly "on the shelf" at age 25) then her sister Charity shall. And it looks like thinks are lining up when Alex Savage, the neighboring Earl, is working towards an offer for Charity. There are just a few problems...

Charity is terrified of the Earl, and is dreading the upcoming wedding.

Alex is a rogue pirate who loves the sea and plundering it's treasures.

My favorite part of this book was where Serena actually had a tiny bit of sexual experience - she wasn't the complete 25-year-old innocent lady facing the how-can-he-not-have-herpes-30-year-old man so beloved in historical romance trope.

Anyway it was good. And pretty long! Not sure what the point of Jin asking about Viola at the end, was, though, is that Rogues of the Sea #3?

Absolutely LOVED this book! After reading book 1 [[book:Swept Away By A Kiss|7069299]] in this series and being seriously disappointed with it, I was hoping my expectations wouldn't be failed again and boy, did Katherine Ashe come through in this one!

Right from the start, I was invested in this book. My emotions ran the gamut as I read Alex and Serena's story - from sympathy towards Alex's brother, anger towards Serena's step-mother and father and enjoyment of the villagers and sailors in the bo

I was a bit surprised to have been so engrossed in this book, considering how I didn't enjoy thaaaat much the last book I read by Katherine Ashe.

This mostly consisted of stereotypical characters and a stereotypical plot but I guess it's the kind of stereotypes I like... Heh. Dialogue with healthy tension always helps too.

In Katharine Ashe's "Captured By a Rogue Lord," the Earl of Savege is secretly Captain Redstone, the pirate captain of the "Cavalier." He robs the rich in a complicated scheme of vengance. In a darkened chamber at a ball, he encounters Serena Carlyle. Their encounter turns rather heated.
The problem is he's at the ball to meet and possibly marry her step-sister, Charity Lucas. Things really become complicated with a bunch of smugglers, a wicked step Mama who will stop at nothing to see her Char

Katharine Ashe'in Kapıldım Sana kitabını zamanında çok sevmiştim. Bu da fena değildi. Piyasadaki bir çok tarihi romana göre oldukça iyiydi.
Erkek karakterin her cümlesine içimden "yalan!" diye cevap vererek okuduğumdan, okuma süreci oldukça yavaştı. Zira her yalan! dan sonra kitabı kenara fırlatıp orada unuttum. Neyse uzun süre romantik bir şeylerin yanına uğramasam iyi olacak sanırım.

It took me a while to get hooked on the story or the characters, but I ended up enjoying the book, even staying up too late one night to finish it. My one complaint is that during most of the book, every character is in turmoil. This reader had to hold onto the promise of a happy ending in order to not feel stressed along with the characters! ;-) But it was worth it.

Readers who enjoy historicals, pirates, heroines who aren't blushing ingenues, and wicked step-mothers should enjoy this. I'm

There was something about this book that made it hard to get into. It could be the stepmother issue, I wasn't reading Cinderella. Or it could be the lack of chemistry between these two that made it hard for to believe they were a match made in heaven. Even how they met was a bit of a stretch, Alex seemed like a cad. I did enjoy the mystery of the smugglers and was surprised by the culprit. This author is a hit or miss for me and unfortunately this was a miss. I really enjoyed In the Arms of a Ma ...more
