The Plot: The third book in Maya Banks’s Sweet series tells Julie’s story. A good friend of Faith’s and Serena’s, Julie is a local salon owner who is infatuated with Faith’s colleague Nathan. Nathan is entirely oblivious to Julie’s advances until she literally strong-arms him (or his dick, that is) into submission.

Zelda’s Take: This might be my least favorite of the Sweet series to date, but there’s enough of a teaser in it of things to come that I just couldn’t wait to finish it and move on!

Julie is a strong, independent woman that is very sure of herself and her big “tatas” and plump derriere. While I can more than get behind this kind of leading lady in most circumstances, I found myself just not understanding Julie’s motives in this book. She says she’s done with Nathan, but she’s really not. She seems to be a bit more adventurous in her sexual endeavors, but she’s really not. And, I gather that she’s more dominant, but just don’t see it fleshed out enough in her character; she’s almost a switch in her actions, or perhaps she just can’t make up her mind. Plus, I don’t see it as a sign of stable confidence when a female persists after a man that seems to be dumb as rocks and unappreciative. Which brings me to Nathan.

Nathan’s ex-military and that’s pretty much all we get on him (other than the size of his dick). That, and the fact that Julie has practically been throwing herself at him and he’s either been too dense to notice, too meek to act on it or too macho to care. In the end, I think it may be a mixture of the three, which is so not a turn-on for me. Add to this that he seems to like calling females “heifers” as a term of endearment, and it just makes me want to vomit a bit in my mouth. Okay. Didn’t like Nathan. Moving on.

What is lovely in this book is that we get to see a bit more into the tragic, tortured life of Micah. In every Sweet book, we seem to get just a little teasing taste of Micah, and he tastes better and better every time. From his threesome with Faith and Gray in book 1 to his lashing of Serena in book 2, book 3 brings us yet another threesome where he “assists” Nathan and Julie. Better yet, we get a true glimpse into Micah’s past life and find that there is hope for him yet to truly love and be loved again. In one tender moment Micah submits to his pain (physical and emotional) and it just shocks me that more women aren’t falling over themselves to take away the hurt… *raises hand to volunteer* !!!

The next title in the series, Sweet Temptation, is Micah’s story, and after all of the teases over the last three books, I just can’t wait to submit…(less)

But finally getting to be skin-on-skin and closer with Julie only makes things worse, because they're no closer outside the fantasy than they ever were. If Nathan ever wants a shot at being in a real relationship with Julie, he'll have to come out of his shell and make up for practically ignoring her for the last several months. As for Julie, a vibrant, confident and ballsy woman who goes into every relationship expecting men to get bored with her and leave her, she'll have to face her fears and learn to trust - a lesson her friends are best placed to teach her.

I started this series cautiously, and the first book wasn't great. The second was so intense and challenging I had to reappraise my opinion of Banks. This third book goes back to safer, more familiar ground, and does a very good job of showing how you can have a healthy relationship and not need any kinks or extreme sexual rituals, if that's not what you want.

There was something nagging me about Julie and Nathan and after a while I figured it out: they're bogans. Nice bogans, but bogans all the same. (If you're not familiar with this term, I can't really help you. It's too hard to explain adequately, and you'd need some cultural knowledge to really appreciate it.) It gave me a jolt, to be honest, and my natural snobbishness came out a bit. But they're far from scary bogans, and I had to remind myself that they're American, they don't have real bogans in America, so that I could get back into enjoying the story.

It's a short, quick read that spends time revisiting Faith and Serena's relationships too, which I really liked. The ending was a bit rushed, a bit oh-look-here's-the-ending-bham!-last-page-sorry! and the story overall was light on plot - but that's what you'd expect from erotic romance, which needs just enough plot to throw two characters together and that's pretty much it. The rest is made up of character development, sex, falling in love, more sex and a dawning realisation. Do I sound cynical? I don't mean it that way.

The fourth book has been set up nicely here and sounds like it'll be another intense ride like book 2, featuring Micah and the ghosts of his past. I'll be there with bells on!(less)

Good book. After that last kink-fest book in the series (Sweet Persuasion), I can't say that I was really looking forward to this one or or if I had the will to read it if it was going to be another hard-core BDSM book. Thank God it wasn't! Not that there's no kink in this one, but thankfully no painful or humiliating BDSM moments between the H/H (although Damon and Serena appear and have their typical moment in the sun).

To be able to TIGHTLY BIND the EMOTIONAL CONNECTION as well, is UNDOUBTEDLY MAGNIFICENT & BEAUTIFUL!!

I was EXTREMELY INTRIGUED, and FASCINATED with this novel. I'm DYING to read Micah's Story, for he's literally been INVOLVED with EVERY WICKED, GRAND SEXCAPADE THROUGHOUT ALL THREE NOVELS THUS FAR. I'm CURIOUS to ascertain his WELL HIDDEN MYSTERIES & DEMONS, revealing what lies just above the surface.

Julie Standford owns a successful salon. She's a woman who knows what she wants. And she wants her favorite massage client, Nathan Tucker. She's given him every green light she knows how to give, and...nothing. She knows he's attracted because he'll never roll over during the massage sessions so he can hide just how interested he is. But he just won't seem to act on that attraction. Julie decides that Nathan just isn't interested. Maybe it's that she's plus sized. Maybe it's that she's a self confident woman. Who knows? She decides that she's going take what she's been wanting for a while and then walk away.

For his part, Nathan could not be more shocked when Julie jumps up on the table and gives him the blow job of his life. He's stupefied when she finishes, and tells him not to bother coming back. She's done.

Julie decides that she'll go to her friend Serena's boyfriend, Damon, and arrange a visit to The House. A place where Damon grants women safe enactment of their fantasies. Serena is close friends with people who work with Nathan, and he very quickly gets wind of Julie's fantasy -- two hot nights with two men. He goes to Damon and demands to be one of the guys. He talks Micah, a friend of his into being that other guy (I don't really get that, but hey, it's an erotic romance). Nathan and Micah work together to give Julie an incredibly hot night. Of course, Julie is blindfolded and handcuffed, so she has no idea it's Nathan she's been with. She continues to be snotty and difficult with him. After their second night together, Julie discovers that Nathan is one of the men she's been with. She's humiliated and furious. How will Nathan ever convince her now that he really wants a relationship with her?

This book is a straight contemporary erotic romance. Banks has a really deft hand with love scenes, making them both emotional and very hot. My only quibble with this story is a song that I sing over and over again. Nathan is seriously a great guy. And Julie is a bit of a pain in the ass. Why is she so slow to see what seriously every one of her friends and acquaintances can see? She pushes Nathan away time and again, mostly because he's not great with his words, he doesn't throw himself at her feet, preferring instead to attempt to woo her. So, as expected, my frustration with Julie was pretty high. But Nathan perseveres, and with his efforts, she begins to realize that he's a really good guy, who wants nothing more than to cherish her. The happily ever after is well done and believable and the book overall was a really enjoyable few hours for me. I will say that Banks has whetted my appetite for Micah's story, which promises to be very dark, and emotional. If you're looking for an enjoyable, straight contemporary erotic romance, Sweet Seduction might just be the ticket.

What I didn't like about this book was how crude and rude Julie was. Often times she came across so abrasive that I wondered why any man would be interested in her. This book had several of the things that I really like in my contemps: great friendships between the men and between the women (and between the men and women), loads of humor, great sex, the alpha male brought to his knees by his woman.

Nathan and Julie have been hot for each other for a long time. Julie finally gets tired of Nathan not making a move and decides to call it a day. She decides to embark on a sexual journey, and that drives Nathan absolutely bat-shit crazy.

Where the book sparkles is the relationships between Julie, Faith, and Serena and between Nathan, Micah, and Connor (and to some extent Gray and Damon). I always enjoy reading about true girlfriends and also the dynamic between guy friends. The other thing that I enjoyed in this book is that there is true camaraderie between the two groups – the guys and girls are all friends, and true affection shines through. Banks also excels when showing the relationship one-on-one between Julie and Nathan. When they open up together and really talk through their issues, it was great. The sex between them was open and honest. I really liked that.

What I didn’t care for was the inherent dishonesty on Nathan’s part by choosing to keep his and Micah’s role in Julie’s threesome a secret. Granted, she insisted upon anonymity, but I thought that lent an air of dishonesty to their relationship that I wouldn’t have been able to overcome. OTOH, I understood that Nathan couldn’t bear to know that Julie was having sex with anyone other than himself.

Which brings me to my last question about this book (and several others I’ve read that involve ménage). I often wonder how a relationship can’t be forever altered when one person is constantly regretting sharing the other. Nathan is always thinking “Mine” and wishing he wasn’t sharing Julie with Micah, while at the same time knowing that there was no one else he would ever trust in the situation. How can that not affect a relationship in the long-term? Just food for thought, because I see this cropping up more and more in books that contain ménage, and if it’s a fully consensual one, where all 3 parties are completely on board, then I’m down with a great ménage scene. Yum. But if one of the parties has reservations? Hmmm…… how can that not come back to haunt you later on? What do you think about that? Have you noticed this trend?

Anyway, ménage aside, I did love the dialogue, the interactions, the friendships, and the sex in this book. I found both Nathan and Julie to be vulnerable and sweet, although Julie did get on my nerves for being so stubborn after a while. And Banks has the perfect contemporary voice – her characters walk and talk like real people. You can imagine hanging out, sharing a beer, and laughing your ass off with them. I didn’t feel as though I was unable to follow this book by not having read the first two. It stands alone, IMO, but would be enhanced by reading the others. I’ll pick them up anyway, simply because I enjoyed this one, and want to read Faith and Serena’s stories.

Since this was an ARC, it didn't come with a back cover blurb so the only first impression I had to go on was the cover image. That cover image was quite amazing, as you can see from the image to the right. That image, when combined with the title of Sweet Seduction, let me know this book would be on the spicier side. the bonus was that i didn't have to suffer through their "meh-ess" for the entire book. revisiting couples from the previous books and a glimpse into other characters we may see later made the eh-inducing couple worth it.

Faith and Grey had a few chapters to themselves and Faith spent plenty of time out with the girls. girl time is always fun. totally drunk at a bar with your best girl friends watching the room spin and gossiping about the men? oh yeah. been there. the conflict between Faith and Gray is something i don't quite understand. i guess everyone has moments of insecurity but she reacted in such an extreme way. good grief. it also seemed pretty much out of nowhere. out of character.

Serena and Damon also had plenty of page space. besides their usual stunning club scene we got to see them finally bring their relationship together. i understood why Serena held out so long and loved the way she overcame those reservations. i am pretty partial to them anyway.

i am a little iffy about where Micah's story is going. that can be because i remember reading that same book at least 3 times by other authors. i hope it doesn't end up going where i see it headed. i like these because they are different. if we go the lora leigh route its going to end up blurring with the rest. i do have to say i was surprised about his club visit to miami. not exactly what i thought was going to happen there.

now i want to see a book based on Cole. i think i may have fell in love with him somewhere near the second time julie paid a visit to the club. (less)

I've put this off for so long and now that I've read one of Maya Banks's works, I remembered why. I'm really partial to characters mutual pleasure and I noticed that the hero gets attention most of the time. I gave this a 4 because it was a light and fun read.

Julie and Nathan had serious miscommunication issues and it's good to see how the other characters' lives (Faith and Gray, Serena and Damon) go on, and they also get an update. Julie and Nathan's love story is a conflict waiting to happen....more

hey, it's summer reading... don't judge :P

i haven't read romance novels since i was a teenager and reading them just for the sex scenes. well, ten years later, the sex scenes are actually hotter (no "rearing manhood" and other cheesy euphemisms here, thankfully).

Sweet Seduction seems to leave me with a bitter taste in my mouth. I sort of liked Julie and Nathan but wasn't particularly fond of how she went about getting together with him and just how thick-skulled her man was. This story...I just don't know. I was compelled to read it. So that alone gives it 3 stars. And it left me wanting to read the next one...I love authors smart enough to weave story lines together and Maya Banks does a good job.

I can't believe how disappointed I was with this one. Micah was total ass. I am not even sure ass is strong enough to convey how awful he was. I don't care how emotionally messed up he was, Angelina was like family and he just abandoned her over and over again. Any why was she such a doormat? This series has fallen into a soap opera worthy story line. I really like that. It’s nice to read about the relationships from the prior books.

Sweet Seduction is story about Julie and Nathan. Their relationship is different from the previous ones.

Although some of the scenes in this book were outstanding, I really wasn’t impressed. Don’t get me wrong, I really like the author, Maya Banks. As with any writer, sooner or later they will create a book that just doesn’t do it for me. It happens.

She’s a very reliable person and full of love for her friends. She has character, a very strong one and men seem to be afraid of it. Nathan is a real sweetheart. I know men hate to hear that but he really is. He’s caring and never short of a helping hand. There's just one tiny problem: He wants Julie but he’s to shy to do something about it. He feels like a little teenage boy every time she’s near him. He has to find a way to get past this or he will lose her completely. And this would be unacceptable for him. He can be stubborn too.

But when Julie tries to get him out of her head all bets are off. She goes straight for her biggest fantasy and Nathan will do anything to prevent that or better to participate.

Sounds naughty and it definitely is- in a very good way. LOL
Nathan crosses his own limits just to make Julies dreams come true and how sweet is that. I love that man.

Yeah I know it’s not necessary to say but the scenes between the sheets are great as ever but no real surprise because Maya wrote this book and she knows how to make the pages sizzle.

The relationship between the two is slightly different in comparison to the first two books but in my opinion it suits them. I loved the way Maya developed the connection between Nathan and Julie while still getting all the subplot smoothed inside the story. I never lost focus on the main action but was also really intrigued about what happens to everyone else- and there's a lot happening in this book. The groundwork for Micah’s story is so good that I already started counting the days till his book is released(188 days *sigh*). Great book about love and friendship with a good amount of witty and funny comments.

Oh, ho, ho....Nathan and Julie. My, my...where to start? I loved that they both were so into each other, but had no clue how to show it. Julie seemed so sweet and innocent, but she proved me wrong not far into the book. Poor Nathan. It was really refreshing to read after we read SWEET PERSUASION. *wipe sweat off forehead* A cute love story that also had a few heavy sex scenes in it. But who are we to complain? We´ve read some odd books where there wasn´t a inkling of passion or lust in it. Just pure raw sex ( ramming, banging, etc) ! This was just a good love story. Plain and simple. We wouldn´t say that this book picks up right where book # 2 stopped, but we do see the lives of the other characters bloom more and continue to. Which was great to see. Since this book was just as much about sex as it was about the love story, we were getting ready to run and hide again ( we are true believers in reading a series to the bitter end even if we didn´t like a book that much) when there wasn´t a reason for us to hide at all! Besides the Threesome Julie and Nathan had ( with Micah, a mutual friend and co-worker from Nathan) this was just A - OK!!

When Julie and Nathan get their issues out of the way and FINALLY try a relationship together, they sort of struggle with `who has the pants on` in the relationship. That was funny to read at times because both characters are strong headed and want to live out their dreams their own way. Lol......

There is doubt, love and even heart-break in this book. Not to forget a bit of ass kicking and action here and then.

We´re giving SWEET SEDUCTION from the very talented Author Maya Banks 4 out of 5 Champagne glasses!!(less)

Déçue par cette série! Les personnages ne m'ont pas du tout embarqués dans leurs histoires et la plupart des scènes "hots" m'ont semblé juste ridicules tellement c'est exagérée.
