I’m a huge Night Huntress series fan, especially when it comes to my main luv Bones, and I loved yummy Spade’s story First Drop of Crimson. But I’ll admit that in the previous books, although I found Mencheres intriguing for sure, I didn’t really envision him as a leading romantic hero, mainly because I always pictured him in a sort of androgynous way. Honestly the only reason I read this immediately following its lackluster (IMO) predecessor “First Drop of Crimson” was because it was the only unread audiobook left on my Ipod. Me riding home with only my thoughts for company is never a good thing.
Kira is a private investigator who hears a scuffle and walks in on a man on the brink of being slain by . . . ghouls. Not hoodlums dressed as ghouls but genuine, flesh-eating ghouls. Now if this were me I’d shriek like a girl and beat it but...more

Okay, so this book surprised me and I didn't see it coming.
Firstly because ever since I heard that Mencheres was getting a book, I was never overly interested in his story. I mean, I liked his character, sure, but a whole book about him? Meh. And then I read the first Night Huntress World novel, (Spade's story) and was more than a little put off. Very generic pnr, the hero was boring and unoriginal, whilst the heroine was truly bang-your-head-against-the-wall annoying.

Kira, a private investigator, ends up being unexpectedly thrown into Mencheres world. She's feisty, stubborn, intelligent, and loyal. It was odd to read about Mencheres because for some reason I always pictured him as being older. Not the young, vibrant man in the story.

I'd like to ask for a moment of silence for Borders.
I went to school in Michigan. When I got there, the city had exactly three places one could buy a new book: the university bookstore, the women's bookstore downtown (run by River and Tree; I kid you not), and the lackluster store in the mall.* I thought I had made a terrible mistake with my life by choosing to live in this wasteland. It got worse when I spent a year in the UK and discovered what their stores were like. I remember the day I got...more

Before this book, I was not the biggest Mencheres fan--I could really take him or leave him, but after reading Eternal Kiss Of Darkness...oh wow, I really grew to love this dreamy, gentleman vampire! And the things we learn about him? Just amazing...
The book starts out with Mencheres's certainty that his time is growing short--he sees nothing but darkness in his future, with darkness equaling "death". He's not getting any more of his "visions" of the future, he can't deal with the guilt he feels...more

I admit, I was on the fence about reading Eternal Kiss of Darkness. Not that I didn’t enjoy First Drop of Crimson, but when an author gives you such memorable characters such as Bones and Cat, it becomes a bit hard to live up to that standard. EKOD starts off with Mencheres who is Bones’s mentor/Godfather/Grandfather in the vampire realm. Enter Kira who happens upon Mencheres being beaten by ghouls - thinking he was merely human she gets herself almost killed by saving him....more

I really enjoyed this vampire romance, it kept my attention and was fun to read. For once, I really liked and admired the heroine. Kira was couragous, smart and actully thought things through before she acted. I like the way she understood Mencheres and stood up for him. I think Frost focused more on Kira's point of view in the story, sometimes I wanted more of Mencheres's thoughts and I wanted more of his background story. I liked Mencheres and this was a nice chance to get to know him better. Most things were pretty predictable and Mencheres wasn't a surprise since I had already made up my mind about who he was to me, but I really liked Kira. She had a bite and she wasn't a pushover. They were good together and even though this wasn't my favorite book by this author it was a good and easy read.

Goodreads Summary
An immortal war has been brewing in the darkness . . . And now one woman has stumbled into the shadows.
Chicago private investigator Kira Graceling should have just kept on walking. But her sense of duty refused to let her ignore the moans of pain coming from inside a warehouse just before dawn. Suddenly she finds herself in a world she's only imagined in her worst nightmares.
At the center is Mencheres, a breathtaking Master vampire who thought he'd seen it all. Then Kira appear
I can honestly say that Mencheres tops the cake as far as the most deadliest vampire. I loved his character, he had so much maturity and poise. Kira was a perfect match up for him bcz she had the same genuine and protective heart as him. They both carried a sense of responsibility and leadership and they make such a good team together. My favorite scene in this book was when Mencheres plunged deep into the ocean with Kira to hide for two hours. It was so unique because it was right after they ha...more

Though not my favorite book in the series, I enjoyed Eternal Kiss of Darkness just as much the second time around. After re-reading the series and seeing Mencheres differently this book wasn't as powerful for me as it was the first time. That being said, it was still really good and a great addition to the Night Huntress World. Jeaniene is great at character development and I'm thrilled that Mencheres got his own book.

Usually when I'm reading a work of fiction, I am somewhat aware of the author's hand, the elements of plot, setting, and characterization, the themes involved.
Frost's story was so powerful it drew me in and kept me there, and I finished with a feeling that I loved the book but without the intellectual awareness of why I did.
It makes me want to immediately go back to page one and begin again. Yes, I can now reflect on the themes and plot, can rejoice in the author's skill, and appreciate what an...more

The book was very good... i enjoyed the black magic... (Im a sucker for witches & spells). Kira still left me a bit bitter, but i see that Mencheres, and herself are good together.

I actually read this book which is book 2 - prior to book 1. I don't think it makes any difference since book 2 has to do with Mencheres and Kira and book 1 is tied to Spade and Denise. However, I do think it is important to have read the Night Huntress series with Cat and Bones prior to reading the Night Huntress World books. It would help tremendously. Hai capito Mencheres! Zitto zitto, con il suo fare algido e controllato ha nascosto per benino un potenziale esplosivo. Ma che dico! Nucleare! Ha fatto il furbetto e ha aspettato la sua storia per scatenarsi.
Come dargli torto, povera stella.

Second in the Night Huntress World, a spin-off from Night Huntress (fifth I guess I'd have to slot it in as though it were a novella as the initial Night Huntress series is continuing and the .5 helps it fit chronologically). The focus is on Mencheres and Kira.

This, like its predecessor in the Night Huntress World series, is a pretty great listening experience. I remain a pretty firm fan of Gilbert's voice, as she really gets into the characters. So much so that it can sometimes be a little bit of a letdown to go from one of her works to another series where the narrator simply narrates rather than try to make each character and scene unique. Some will like this, some won't.

I think it's safe to say that I'm addicted to these books. Lord knows what I'm going to do when I run out of Night Huntress books to read. I can be listening to perfectly good audiobooks and I just keep thinking that there's still Night Huntress books that I haven't listened to yet. But to this book in particular, it was great. I loved seeing another side of the emotionless and stoic Mencheres that we'd seen so far in the other books. In this book, Mencheres falls hard and fast for Kira and we g...more

The second story in Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress World series takes us to a story about Mencheres, one that tells all about the joys of second chances and feelings of redemption.
Mencheres has lived a long life, but hasn’t felt the same vigor for living that he once had, ever since he helped deliver death to his estranged and evil wife, Patra. He no longer has visions and sees nothing, but darkness when he tries, which leads him to believe that his end is ne...more
