Oh LAWD, this series just it doesn't stop being dumb.

What am I saying, this is The Immortals series. At least this book didn't misuse Wicca, because that damn Hekate thing was going to make me choke a muggle.

Meh... I'm beginning to seriously hate these books. Not that the first 4 were amazing, but the first one wasn't bad... then they all go downhill from there IMHO. How long is the author going to drag out this Ever can't touch Damon crap? I mean, geesh!! Give it a rest already!! As if them being able to touch will automatically create this happily ever after ending we've all been waiting for. It's getting completely ridiculous!

Every time you see the words "tingle and heat," take a swig. I guarantee you'll be plastered by the time you finish the book in one sitting. We get it, your boyfriend makes you feel all warm and fuzzy. Move the hell on.

If you're not wasted by this point, go ahead and throw in another shot for every cheesy mention of a red tulip. If you're not three sheets by now, you have a heartier constitution than I.

Give me a minute while I attempt to drum up any enthusiasm for this series…you’re probably asking yourself, “why is this girl still reading this series if she thinks they are so pitiful?” Good question. This reminds me of Jim Carrey’s line in Dumb and Dumber, “Hey, I guess they’re right. Ever returns to school for her Senior year only to discover that Haven has used her new immortal powers to make herself the most popular girl in school. And oh yeah, she still blames Ever for Roman’s death. Haven’s first order of business is to break Damen and Ever apart and her hidden weapon is some heinous secret in Damen’s past, involving Ever and Jude. Apparently in one of Ever’s lives, she was a slave and Damen bought her from an evil master, thus forcing her to leave her family and Jude (who was her slave boyfriend) behind. Ever’s family and Jude (in that life) end up dying in a fire and Damen doesn’t tell Ever. Am I so immune to these books that I’ve lost the ability to react normally? Because this horrible, heinous, worst ever secret doesn’t seem that bad to me. What about Damen had a child with another person and that child is Jude or that Damen, himself; set the fire to kill Ever’s slave family so he could have her all to himself? These are both plots twists I might have considered to be horrible and heinous. Anyway, lots of dithering and visits to Summerland ensue accompanied by many descriptions of drinking the red immortal elixir. (Yes, YES, they have to drink elixir to be an immortal. WE GET IT. Please, no more descriptions of Ever fiddling with her bottle of elixir at lunch or talking about her “favorite red sports drink” with her aunt. Enough. End rant.) Okay, so somewhere along the way, Haven manages to learn what Ever’s weak chakra is and she kills her…only as she dies, Ever suddenly defeats her weak chakra by having some revelation about it. Sigh. Anyway, not a lot is resolved by the end of the book (nothing new there). Perhaps the author is saving it all for the finale, due out this Summer. I won’t be holding my breath.

Dear Alyson Noel during this book I’ve felt like you tried so hard to keep us interested in what you are writing, unfortunately, You failed, big time.
This book is boring really truly boring and the fact that I have to somehow find a way to finish it is utter torture “I never change my habits and one of them is to never give up on a book and not finish it” so here I am trying to finish the 200 pages that are left ,not much huh?!!

And Ever goes on and on about how Jude looks at her how he observes her , oh poor Jude he loves me , he wants me ,oh poor Jude always getting his heart broken .. and then poor Damen being sad because of me , obsessing oh poor thing they all love me and I have to choose hmm such a difficult choice to make..
And just when I think the book is over like most books go you know? A beginning with a state of an almost calm atmosphere and then right in the middle there is the troubles and problems and everything gets fixed and we get to the end when everything is in a semi good way and then right before the book ends we see the opening for the new one (if it’s a series of course) “and I’m sure all of these things have some grammatical name that I don’t know of”
Well, well, this book have proven me wrong, since it has two big problems right in the middle with a great space of supposed calm between them and right when I thought the book was over –to my outer rage- it wasn’t and it kept dragging on for a lot of pages which is a pure torture if you might ask me.
I had to get through so many pages to get to some –almost- good parts and then again I had to cope with some more. I can’t believe how much time I’ve wasted not how many times I thought it’ll get better , believe me IT DOESN’T .
And now finally there is a final book and despite how much I hated this one I’m gonna read it just so I could have a proper closure with this series.
And of course I’m giving it no more than 2 stars and that second star is because I enjoyed some parts so it is only to be fair.

The books are all about Ever and Damen trying to get it on. Riveting. Again, how can this be a series? Plot ideas are literally running dry. Damen and Ever's quest to have sex isn't interesting. Haven's sworn revenge on Ever and Jude, but Haven has always b...more Why? Why is this a series? There's no reason to for this series to exist! Ever's training to kill Haven, but she still wants to give her another chance. Fuck that. Haven has never been Ever's friend. She's always been jealous of Ever and would like nothing better than to see her fail.

The synopsis of this book says that Haven was going to be a villain, but I call bull on that. Her villainous scenes were so boring. It was the same old shit about her not being noticed, Ever's prettier than her, and all she wants is to be popular. I don't give a damn. Aside from making self-entitled and self-pitying speeches, Haven hints that Damen has been keeping dirty little secrets from Ever, and Haven takes over the school. Clearly I should be trembling in my shoes out of fear for Haven. Honestly, she just takes over the school so she'll be popular. She comes to school wearing some dumb dress that had way too much description, and suddenly everyone's lining up to give her a blowjob, which is what she wanted all along. I never found popular girl villains interesting anyway. How can one person have so much power over an entire student body? It's ridiculous. And what is this obsession with being popular in high school? It'll end in four years! Haven's Queen Bee now, and has taken to ruling the school with an iron fist. Now Ever wants to put the former Queen Bee and her tormentor, Stacia, back in charge because Haven's just a bitch.

Aside from the Haven drama, Ever also finds out that Damen's been editing parts of their history, and gets mad, but they'll be back together and riding a white stallion through a field of red tulips through the sunset, so I didn't really care. There's some shit about Jude and her relationship with him, but I didn't care. I could not get invested in this pairing, because it was completely obvious that she would get with Damen, and Jude didn't have a prayer. So the Jude angle is wrapped up. Good thing, too, because I found it to be completely unnecessary.

Ever's also upset because her aunt found out about her powers, and doesn't believe her. Seeing as Sabine went out of her way to take care of her, I'm really annoyed by the way she treats her aunt. But it's not like Ever would have to deal with her aunt, because she's an immortal. She doesn't have to deal with real life, she can just go off and frolic with Damen. She can manifest anything she needs and she can read a book just by touching it, so she doesn't need to work in the world. She and Damen don't do anything, and it's completely boring to read about them being so cute. There's no substance to their relationship. They're the type of people who would just gaze lovingly into each others' eyes as the school burned down or some shit.

Ever also wants to get a shirt Roman was wearing from Haven because he spilled the antidote on it. I don't know what the fuck Ever was planning to do with that shirt. I guess she was going to get it analyzed or some shit. I thought that she was going to just have Damen lick the stain from the shirt in the hopes that it would cure him. Apparently Haven's been carrying that shirt around as a reminder of Roman. I understand everyone reacts to grief differently, but given Haven's flair for dramatics, I just rolled my eyes. Thankfully, Ever finally kills Haven, and there was much rejoicing in my head. Unfortunately, the shirt also burned, so no sexy times for Damen and Ever will ensue.

This book was just boring. I didn't think this should have been a series, and there's nothing in it. The only thing is that Ever and Damen can't have sex. That seems to be the entire basis of their relationship. Damen chased her all these years because he couldn't get in her pants. Haven's just a bitch, and I have absolutely no interest in the high school social system. I heard that this book was going to be the last in the series, and I was relieved. But now there's one more. Why? How much longer can this series possibly run? There's nothing there! Drina's been dead since book one, Roman is dead, Haven is dead, the whole Jude angle is done, what else is there to do? I cannot believe four books are dedicated to seeing whether or not Ever and Damen screw. Thankfully, there's only one book left. Hopefully they'll be able to get it on.(less)

I'm still not a fan of this series, I just keep reading it, because I started it. And I wouldn't recommend it ot a friend. I can't describe it excactly why but I always have the feeling, that it is annoying, the whole plot and most of the characters. the only two characters I like are Jude and Miles, but they are not so often mentioned in the book. The story about Damen and Ever is sometimes really boring and I just can't feel with them, also the part with summerland -> that's keeping rolling...more

We return to the world of Ever Bloom and friends in the fifth installment of Ms. Noel's popular THE IMMORTALS series. Macmillan Young Listeners has done it again with another thrilling story read by Katie Schorr.

Haven has discovered her true powers and now will do anything she can to destroy Ever. Haven blames Ever for killing Roman. No matter how Ever explains it, Haven believes Roman truly cared for her and would never have let her really die when he forced Ever to choose between Damen's antidote and Haven's life.

Senior year has started for them and things are quite different this time. Haven has dethroned Stacia as queen bee and Honor's allegiances are waning. Miles has returned from Italy totally changed. Changed so much that at first Ever and Damen think Haven has gotten to him. But it's quite the opposite. Haven has told Miles about being immortal, but shocking them all, Miles wants nothing to do with the magical elixir.

NIGHT STAR primarily deals with Haven and Ever's growing battle of wills. Only one can succeed, but will it be Ever or Haven? Unfortunately, I can't give that detail away here.

Ms. Schorr reads NIGHT STAR as brilliantly as she has the four previous novels in the series. It's a real treasure to be able to listen to the same reader through multiple novels in a series. There is a consistency there that the listener comes to rely on. Ms. Schorr's voice becomes Ever, and takes on all the characters just as wonderfully. Miles has a larger role in NIGHT STAR, and I enjoyed listening to Ms. Schorr take on his newfound confidence. Ms. Schorr aptly shares the nuances of Haven's ever increasing agitation and frustration as her obsession with Ever grows. And as always, by the final lines, she has brought the listener to the edge of their seats, eagerly wanting more, but knowing that they will have to wait for the next novel.

Unfortunately, that won't be until the summer of 2011 when the final chapter of THE IMMORTALS series, EVERLASTING, will be published. (less)

This one was better than the last but even so only by a tiny bit.

I hated Haven from the start, what a bitch. I wanted her gone ever since she became an immortal. She is annoying... Not to mention self centered. (ALLL OF THE TIME!)

This book is a repeat of the last one. It is the same f*&^ing plot with a different f*@#ing bad guy. There are very few changes from the last 4 plots to this one. I was really hesitant about starting this book. I liked the first book in the series but from that point forward I wasn't very excited about the way it turned out.
Anyway, after seeing that the series were finally complete I decided to try the next book just to see where it would go... So, not great but not that bad either. I can't say that this book was a surprise but it was nice enough for me to finish it.

Up until this point, I have liked the series although in my review for the book before this one, Dark Flame, I admitted to feeling a little torn. Night Star is the fifth book of the series and with only one more left to go, I’m finding that now I just want it to end. You could ask why I continue reading if I feel this way but I’m not one to start a series and not finish it. I don’t make this statement light hearted and in fact, I wish this wasn’t the case. I just feel as though what began as promising book series has run out of steam.

I’m beginning to see a pattern with these books and I’m astounded I didn’t notice it sooner. While I enjoyed the first books of the series, I’m now finding myself bored. It seems as though it is the same plot in every book with a few tweaks here and there. The only difference I see in this instalment is that the enemy has changed. Apart from that, it’s pretty much the same old story. Ever doubts her relationship with Damen… Could Jude actually be the one for her after all? Ever is also manifesting anything she wants… Oh and let’s not forget the glue that holds this all together… Finding the antidote that will allow her and Damen to be together…

Perhaps I’m being too sarcastic there. In fact, Ever and Damen are not seeking the antidote in this book. No, they are in fact looking for the antidote to the antidote. Different, huh? I guess I’m frustrated that nothing new is happening in this series. I’m beginning to question whether it is necessary to have this amount of books in the series. I feel as though Noel could have confined all that has happened so far into two or three books.

I don’t mean to slate this book. I just wish it was so much more and I feel it did have the potential to be so. There were parts of this book which actually enjoyable which helped me to get through it but I’m afraid to say I’ve just had enough with the antidote plot. In my opinion, dragging it out as long as it has been was a mistake. So much more could have developed with these characters.

There is the final book to go and despite my disappointment I will read it, but only because I have a compulsive need to read a series in full.

Dear god, why do I find these books so fascinating? They are terrible! They are terrible! The narrating protagonist clearly has some kind of never-addressed mental disorder, the villains are stupid, and the series constantly ignores opportunities to legitimately talk about things like the condition of humanity and the moral implications of an afterlife in favor of discussing the importance of the social hierarchy in high school and that, should you become unpopular, people will routinely throw water bottles at your head. And, let's not forget, Alyson Noel can't be bothered to remember the gender of the protagonist's dog. Throughout the series (and as of this book), I have counted the number of pronouns used to refer to the dog: seven. Four times, the pronoun is "she." Three times, the pronoun is "he." In the first two books, the dog is referred to as one each, on the same page, I must point out. In the third book, the dog is consistently a "she," which I thought cleared up the issue of the dog's gender, up until Night Star, when the dog was constantly a male, though, of course, for a given value of "constantly," as it only came up once.
I. Am. Confused.
And I think it is my confusion that leads to my fascination.
How do you forget the gender of your protagonist's dog? In one book, it seems like it could be a typo. "She" is only one letter away from "he." But it happens multiple times! The dog's gender is always changing! This doesn't happen to any of the other characters! Alyson Noel never accidentally calls Ever a man, or dresses Damen in a skirt! This only happens to Buttercup, the hermaphroditic dog.
Is Alyson Noel doing this on purpose?
And then--the logical extension of that thought--is this whole series terrible on purpose? Does Alyson Noel know that this book is terrible? Is this whole thing some kind of satyrical statement about the tragedy of mankind's stupidity? A few years after the series is over, is Alyson Noel going to come out and say, "D'oh! You've been punk'd, readers! And through this prank, I have just made some kind of powerful philosophical statement!"?
I don't know. Probably not. But it would be FASCINATING. (less)

I really loved the first books, was getting so into them, couldn't put them down and I loved how Damon was a type of bad-boy. So I was sad when he started to get a little boring towards the last half of the books.

To be honest, he reminded me a little of Damon Salvatore. Which is good in a way, and maybe because of the name. But maybe making him a little less Damon in some ways would have made me stop picturing Ian Somerhalder. Not that that's a bad thing.

The characters were interesting and there was a sense of mystery about immortal Damen. I thought the series would be amazing after that. I was wrong.

I am surprised at the negative reviews for this book. Trust me, I LOVED Evermore, completely HATED the 2nd book, "Blue Moon" and almost just stopped there. I'm glad I didn't, because after that 2nd book in the series, it really did get better from there.

I mean come on, I could give it zero stars. I have never EVER read a series so ridiculously redundant in all my years of reading. Get over it already, honestly, an author that CAN write well should never EVER produce something so hideous. It's so disappointing when an author shows you she can write and develop a good story line (e.g. Evermore & Blue Moon, maybe even Shadowland) and characters and then puts on such a horrible display of mediocrity. This series has dragged on way too long and while the first installment, Evermore had me intrigued, I'm disappointed to say it's been downhill from there.

I'm just going through the motions now. I've invested too much time in the series to not find out what happens in the end, and that annoys me but there you go.

When I first started reading this series a few years ago, I absolutely loved it! Damen was dreamy, and Ever was one lucky girl. But as it has progressed and more obstacles have been put in the way of their happily ever after, I have come to like Damen less and less. Now that even more has been revealed about his past in Night Star, I don’t think he’s as dreamy as I once thought and I wish Ever would give Jude the chance that she was never able to give him in their previous lives.

I can’t help but feel that around the 3rd book in the series, Shadowland, Alyson Noel let go of her focus and added in way too many immortal characters. When Jude was added, things really started to get out of control. He seemed to be added with no real purpose other than to shake things up. I would have been able to accept his inclusion if he had somehow been foreshadowed in the previous books, but it seems that Noel is just writing as she goes without any real planning.
