We listened to Dandelion on the way back to the library yesterday morning and I'm starting to wish I'd made an 'audio' list now so I can look back later on all of the books we listened to. I guess I'll just have to note it in my reviews since the last thing I need is more lists.
Dandelion is a really cute story that is just like the description states. Dandelion gets an invitation to his giraffe friends party which specifically states to "come as you are". Instead of "coming as he is" Dandelion d...more

From the back of the 1968 paperback edition:

Dear Dandelion, You are invited to my tea-and-taffy party on Saturday afternoon at half-past three. Come as you are. Sincerely, Jennifer Graffe

Dandelion was excited about his invitation and primped outrageously for the occasion. First a haircut, shampoo, and manicure, next a wave as in the latest lion fashion magazine - then an elegant new jacket and cap, and last a bouquet of dandelions for the hostess.

When a loveable lion undergoes an overhaul it can...more

Cute story about the lion who thinks that he doesn’t look stylish enough for the party and goes to the barber shop to curl his hear, to the store to get a new jacket. When he goes to the party, his friends don’t recognize him and hut the door a front of his nose. Feeling hurt he walks home and gets wet from the rain. At that moment he decides to give his friends one more shot and goes back to the party where he gets recognized. Very cute story, but unfortunately the illustrations are not that ex...more

Dandelion is another book by Don Freeman that has a powerful message, similar to that of 'Corduroy'. This story's moral is about being yourself, because people like you just the way you are. I also think it is about forgiveness, because when Dandelion reveals to Jennifer Giraffe that he WAS the "silly looking lion" she apologizes, and he immediately forgives her. This is another great book for my future classroom because it has a wonderful message, while also having a fun and imaginative story l...more

This book is about how Dandelion changes his whole look just to impress his friend. He listen to everyone and did what they told him to do. When he showed up at his friend's party, she didn't recognized him. When the storm came and washed everything away and he was back to being himself, then he was incited in to the party. The book teaches no matter what people may say or think what you should change about yourself, don't! Never change who you are!

A classic with which I was overjoyed! Dandelion dolls himself up for a party and is turned away at the door when giraffe does not recognize his "new and improved" self. Clear message about staying true to oneself rather than trying too hard. I was pretty bummed when Amrita got a negative reaction from preschool class about the book being boring...my girls enjoyed it but maybe it's more of a one-on-one than group experience?

Illustrations are pretty bland. Tri color, black white, and yellow.
Story about Dandelion, a lion who gets invited to a "come as you are" party, though in his excitement, gets carried away with his hairdo and outfit so that when he finally shows up, no one recognizes him and he is turned away. In the end, he realizes how ridiculous he had looked and that it's important to just be yourself.

This book is about Dandelion and his efforts to dress up for his friend's party. His friend does not recognize Dandelion when he gets to the party because he is so dressed up in fancy clothes. This makes Dandelion realized that his friends liked him the way he was. There is minimal color in the illustrations and I think it would be good to read to any age child.
Amber
Great story with an awesome overall moral. Illustrates through Dandelion that you should always be yourself and be comfortable with yourself. Great book to read to students to inspire confidence, however the illustrations probably will not catch students attention.

Cute story about being yourself. My kids LOVE it. I was really surprised that they liked this book as well as they did. The illustrations are simple, but I think that is actually part of the appeal for them.

Great book for kids and parents - "be true to thine own self" message which is just as important today as it was when it was written!

"I promise to never again try to turn myself into a stylish dandy."
This book has a bad moral. Being a dandy can be fun.
Susan
The moral of the story is don't be a stylish dandy! I do like how he did his daily exercises though - very inspiring.
Vicki

I loved Don Freeman books when I was really young (Dandelion, Corduroy, etc)- this one especially with its mostly pink and gold color palate (colors I ended up loving together most of my life, maybe because of this) and its cute be-yourself story.

I cannot count how many times I checked this book out on the trips my dad took my sisters and me on to the library. Why it never got old to me, I couldn't tell you!

About 15 years later, my sister gave me a little paperback edition to treasure and giggle...more

Cute story by the author of "Corderoy." It's an interesting way to tell children to be true to themselves. Fun illustrations, too.

This is my most absolute favorite children's book I've ever read. The story is so precious and is a great story about being yourself. It was so fun to read and the illustrations are so cute, especially when the lion curls his beard. It made me want to have a tea and taffy party.

23 months - Took this on our trip to Ontario in April and it was a huge hit. I think I read it 2-3 times a day for two weeks. It's a cute story and cute artwork.
