The best thing I can say about the book is that it's a page turner and that's about it.
As far as I understand from user reviews, it's a typical James Patterson novel (I haven't read any of his other books), so if you're a fan you're going to enjoy it.
That is not my case, however.
The novel is action packed, which accounts for the page-turning, but also for the shallow characters and superficial story.
The basic premise is not that bad. A young couple travels around Europe, killing other couples an...more

I've read Patterson before but this one was addictive, a real page turner. First of all I'm a sucker for anything with a reference to Paris on the cover (the Eiffel Tower in this case - paperback version). When I picked it up and read the endorsement on the back from the BookReporter.com "A fun read . . . puzzles, and more exotic places than you will probably ever visit in person." - I was totally hooked being a huge fan of the travel writing genre. Although it started off graphically with more...more
If you are in to books with foreign settings you will really love this book! But even if you aren't, you don't want to miss out on reading this rollercoaster of a thriller ride! This is James Patterson & Liza Marklund at their best! I couldn't put this book down & it was so enthralling that I even had dreams about it! I KNOW that a book is really great if I dream about it!

James Patterson can always be counted on for a fun and exciting thriller and mystery. He and Swedish author Liza Marklund don't dissapoint with this one. It may not be as polished and memorable as some of his Women's Murder Club or Alex Cross books, but it still held it's own.
The following may or may not contain spoilers.

James Patterson seems to continually disappoint me these days. It's bad enough that I hated his last two books, but this one is only marginally better. Many people are die hard Patterson fans and until quite recently I would have also put myself in that category. Unfortunately, I am now becoming very cynical when it comes to any book he has co-written.
This particular book I was actually looking forward to due to many reasons. The first is that he has never co-written with author before; and seco...more

Wow, this book kept my attention fairly well. I'm usually not a fan of Patterson especially when he co-authors a book. I think he's much better writing solo, except in this case.
The premise of the book is someone is killing couples on vacation in various European countries by slashing their neck. Jason Kanon of the NYPD is chasing these killers across the continent and seems to be the only person linking them together. Dessie Larsson is a journalist with a family of petty thieves. Quick, easy read. Certainly, not a book that will "improve" my mind but just like trying to eat healthy, every once in awhile I need a cookie or a piece of chocolate to relax and feel happy. I feel the same way about Patterson - he is my "mind candy." I cannot fathom where he comes up with his creepy ideas but it is fun to escape once in awhile. The Postcard Killers kept me guessing until the end because I couldn't figure out how they could be in so many places at once. Hopefully, an "end" was p...more
I have only put quotes where an actual postcard is being talked about (the noun) and not where the authors are describing the killers (adjective).
Ch 1
p. 19 “He turned his back on the window and looked down at the postcards spread out across the hotel bed.”
p. 20 “Then he sat down on the bed, messing up the order he had just arranged for the postcards.”
“He picked up the copies of the postcard from Florence.

What is art, anyway? It used to be the hasty drawings of people who lived in caves and wanted to leave some record of their experiences on the walls. Later, it took the form of paintings of religious scenes and portraits of and for wealthy patrons. However, in modern times, thanks to the advent of the camera, artists moved beyond accurate visual representation, progressing towards abstractions that represented ideas, movements, and experiences. During the last fifty years or so, the definition o...more
Postcard Killers, by James Patterson & Liza Marklund, follows an unusual crime spree. Young couples are being murdered, their bodies posed in unique, yet familiar and haunting poses. Although the crimes are happening all over Europe, a NYPD detective is the person hot on the trail, for very personal reasons. A reluctant reporter becomes involved in the hunt for the killers. She and the dectective form an unlikely, yet productive team. Her expertise on petty crime, combined with her knowledge...more
Up until this point, I had read two and a half books by Patterson (in his adult range). The half book so disgusted me that I gave up. All three of them were Alex Cross books, and I think that was a major reason why I didn't really like his books--his writing of an African-American detective was so very bizarre that it made me uncomfortable. Plus, I believe that Patterson clearly wins the "Author of the Creepiest, Most Disturbing, and Downright Disgusting Sexytimes" award. Like, ever. I would not...more

This is a story about two young people making their way across Europe and butchering other couples. How twisted are James Patterson and Liza Marklund to write this tale? Pretty twisted.
Jacob Kanon's daughter was murdered by the Postcard Killers, and he can't rest until he brings them to justice.
Kanon is not the most sympathetic character. He's emotional, a pompous jerk to the Swedish police, and when you first meet him he's downright filthy because he hasn't bathed or taken part in any hygieni...more

I've only read a few James Patterson novels. I've always heard great things about his writing and I really wanted to start reading some of his stuff. My only problem thus far is that everything of his I've read has been so predictable. I've had such high expectations for each of his books and I've been let down with each one.
Having said that I don't hate his books. I think that the sheer number of books that he has released, with co-authors, has lead to a bit of overkill. I like the story lines,...more

In this offering, a couple is traveling throughout Europe, murdering other killers and taunting police and journalists with postcards. They’ll pick a city and contact the press by sending them a postcard and then, after the murder is complete, send a photo of the crime scene. The father of one of the earlier murder victims (who is also a NYPD detective) is on their trail and has tracked them to Sweden, where he meets the journalist they’re contacting for this round of slaying.

James Patterson teams up with Liza Marklund, a bestselling author from Scandanavia, to bring readers on a romp through Europe to catch a pair of killers that use postcards to local newspaper journalists as their calling card. Dessie Larsson is a reporter for a Swedish newspaper, and she is the latest journalist to get such a postcard. It does not take long for her to be contacted by Jacob Kanon, a detective from the New York Police Department.

NYPD cop Jacob Kanon has been chasing a pair of vicious killers across the capitals and holiday hotspots of Europe, killers who kick-started their murderous spree by butchering his daughter and her fiancée in Rome. Before each murder, a postcard is sent to the local newspaper, and when Stockholm-based crime reporter Dessie Larsson receives the latest missive, she and Kanon team up to try to stop the killers once and for all.

While the Postcard Killers is certainly not Patterson's best work, it certainly isn't his worst, either. One reason that I so easily fall in love with his work is that he almost always pulls a fast one on me, surprising me with unforeseen plot twists that hit me in the face like a ton of bricks, and reading his novels is therefore fun, because I never know what to expect. This novel, co-written with Swedish writer Liza Marklund, is no exception, as a couple of incredibly interesting plot twists...more

As the book starts we have the usual James Patterson trademarks: gripping beginning and short chapters to keep you engrossed. This book is set in Europe thanks to Patterson's co-writer Liza Marklund, and has a much darker undertone than we'd usually expect from Patterson. The first section of the book is fast paced and graffic. We also meet Jacob Kanon, an NYPD homicide detective who's daughter was one of the first victims. Jacob is deeply flawed as a result of this and has vowed to find the kil...more
As murder mysteries go, this was a good one. For a long car journey, the audio was perfect. There were three readers which greatly enhanced the performance and made the characters easy to recognize after they were introduced; the voices and accents were specific to each and remained consistent throughout. The plot twisted and turned, often changing directions making you constantly wonder if the murderers would be found or if the mystery would ever be solved. Actually, at one point, I thought for...more

The story gave me a sense of Déjà vu. The minute I read about the positioning of the bodies I knew it must be an attempt to mimic an artwork. I am still trying to figure out if I have read a similar thriller elsewhere but my memory fails me (again!). So that sums up my experience with the story. I did not find it new or exciting and in spite of the twists pertaining to the art group, incest and numerous copy cat murderers I did not enjoy the book.

This is a fast paced, action filled thriller, and as a quick entertainer is a good book to read. This is also my first James Patterson novel, so I don't have any frame of reference, but given the genre, I have no major complaints. When I pick up a thriller it is very much for the thrill and quick pacing. If the characterisation is wonderful and the writing excellent, then they are just the cherries on top.

First of all, I am not a avid reader. This is my 5th book with Patterson. Comparatively, it kept me turning pages. But as with most of his other books, I felt the end is not much captivating. This is one of the most common disappointments I get on reading books and watching movies.
