I know Danielle does research for a lot of her books. Sad to know stuff liked that happened. I mean growing up I would here stuff that happened in Germany at the time. This was recommended by a work colleague back in 1982 and turned me off to Danielle Steele novels ever since.

This was the last bookm I read. It was historical, sad, interesting and touching. The things Ariana went through, she is tough. U learn a lot by the way. I love World War II stories especially from German. It tells the tells of what people went through to be great today. From Kassandra and Walmar, to Ariana, Manfred, Ariana reaching the states, meeting the Leibmans, being mistreated and surviving, her Noel and Tamara. U just put yourself in her shoes and u see that for to fit, u need to be stron ...more

First Danielle Steele book I read. The appearance of the book is so creepy because of small characters and its thickness but the author made the plot good enough to indulge myself into the story.

It has the same story with all the WWII-inspired plots that revolved around loss and hope but Steele created an in-depth plot her work that made my imagination vivid. Her difference however, is the story's numerous twists and turns and sub-stories that revolved around 3 generations of the Van Gotthards c

I used to read this author's books many years ago. last year I was given 3 boxes full of her books which I have been slowly working my way through! I find its very easy to recognise a Danielle steel book and I have to say she always delivers. I thought I had read this book years ago but once I started the book I obviously had forgotten the storyline as it was all new to me. I enjoyed the storyline and it was very easy it to read. the only thing I find is that you tend to know. the outcome way be ...more

To start with, I shelve this book under the category of books to be never read again. And that is not because I hated this book or this book is an utterly boring or worthless read. On the contrary, this is a book that everyone should read at least once in their lifetime, just that they should not revisit it again. Why then did I say that I will never read it again?

From the elegant yet pathetic life that Kassandra led to the little kid that grew up with a fleetingly appearing mother to the pathet

A definite page-turner featuring an interesting story; however, the thing I disliked the most was that all of the men in the story sounded (and talked) exactly the same. One of Steel's favorite things to make her characters say is "my darling" as a term of endearment, which becomes kind of an eye-roller after a while. Additionally, I didn't like how every time Ariana was in trouble or needed something, things just conveniently fell into her lap (ehem: like how all of the people in her life insis ...more

Read it years ago, and i remember weeping my heart out ! Steel does that to you.. her universality lies in writing about issues which are humanistic and real.

This is by far one of my favorite Danielle Steel novels. I recall reading this novel as a young teen during a summer break. I spent countless hours just reading and crying, reading and crying. I felt so many emotions as a young teen in JUST this book, that when it was over, I felt a bit traumatized.
It's a story of love and family, and loss - as kinda always in regards to Danielle Steel. This is beautifully written and the characters are deep.
I'd love to re-read this again now as a twenty seven

There is one book which always gets u,u know.
This one was mine.
It is a heart shattering and heart touching story.
It shows that being strong isn't easy, that life sends so many challenges and hardships our ways and we just have to deal with them.
This is the one story which made me cry,it tore my heart into pieces.
The book had many things, mainly about the war and the struggles of the girl ..
This is the kind of book which I never want to read again, not because I hate it but because I'd like it to be

Great story

This is an awesome view of such a horrible time in history. It reminded me so much of the story of the war between the states and how families and lovers were torn apart by death and destruction. Adriana was a strong woman who loved, endured, and hated just to survive but all along believing that "there were decent men wearing Nazi uniforms and he was one. It was not just good guys and bad guys, life is just not as simple as that".

I was disappointed in the ending. I felt as if there

If you haven't seen the 1990s TV movie or want to read the print version, be swept into the hands of time. In the Ring, it was another beautiful historical romance by Danielle Steel. Set in the backdrop of World War II Europe, she took us on another time travel warp back to our history. First, an ill-fated affair between Arianna's mother and her Jewish writer lover was killed due to Hitler's cleansing. Her father and her brother survived the devastating loss by protecting her memory and passing ...more

I first had a Danielle Steel book in my stocking when I was about 13, can't remember what it was called but remember not being able to get through the first page and giving it away shortly after. So I wasn't sure I would enjoy this but surprisingly I did! I found it hard to connect with the first character Kassandra, it's hard to like someone who is having an affaire when she is married to a likeable man. And then risking the lives of her family for her lover, who then selfishly ends it all, le ...more

I have never been too keen about Danielle Steele books. Actually I only read one other one several years ago. However, my sister has always told me that I had to read The Ring" and many years ago my aunt lent it to me. Finally I decided to read it.
I do have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed it. The storyline, along with the historical references, were very moving. Great book , MS. Steele!

It was a good book. Riveting, and honestly, i didnt expect so many parts to the story, from Kassandra and Dolff, to Arianna and her almost identical but a much more difficult life and then Noel. The thickness of the book was justified :P
But yeah, its an awesome read. Wasn't boring at all. Infact, it was pretty riveting coz D.S. did make lots of unexpected twists in the plot.

The four-star rating comes from the romantic 16 year old me who read this book. A very small library and a small bookstore in the mall did not lead to many options for reading, but I bought this book and though it was wonderful at the time. I have too many books on my too-read list now to give it a review from a much more cynical adult.

This book depicts the story of girl caught between the hateful war and how she eventually grows and forms her own identity . The sequence when she was in jail was heart wrenching . I actually feared for her despite it is a fiction. It makes me think of all the people with no fault of their own has suffered horrible fates during the reign of Hitler. A very good read

My mother influenced me with this author and I have read just about every one she has written. Tragically, since her son died under conditions no family should go through, her writing has lost the " heart" and passion of its moving you as it once had. I love this novel. One of her better ones.

This book I could not put down. I LOVED this book. Ariana went through so much but her strength was resilient. So many things happened to her against the backdrop of the most cruelest history in Germany.

Again, I absolutely loved this book and have read it more than once.

I am not normally a Danielle Steele fan, but this was recommended to me. I was really moved by the story, and it had me in tears several places. Family and friends, 1930's Germany. Steele does a good job really fleshing out her characters.

My Danielle Steel's favourite book! This story just flow! It reads it self alone, you just can't help it but to turn the pages. I surely admire how the author managed to write about such delicate subjects in a romantic kind of way.
Kristin
This was always one of my favorite Danielle Steel novels. It's the 1st time I've read it on years. If I hadn't read so many good books since then I probably would have given it 4 or 5 stars. I still like it but not the way I did 20 years ago.
