For Christmas a few years ago, Forrest gave me My Life as a Furry Red Monster. I devoured the book on Christmas day, interrupting the family gathering to share tidbits of Kevin's story. So, when I saw It's Not Easy Being Green: And Other Things to Consider at the discount store today, I knew I had to pick it up (along with Before You Leap: A Frog's Eye View of Life's Greatest Lessons-- which I'll read this weekend). Of course, I read the book in under an hour. It's a wonderful tribute to Jim Henson...more
Horribly disappointing. I love Jim Henson, I could never be disappointed by anything by him or about him, but here I am, disappointed. All the quotes were about the exact same things - nothing interesting, nothing to think about. Although I did appreciate thoughts by Dr. Teeth.
Words of wisdom from the Muppets...what's not to love?! And I don't mean by just Kermit, but the Fraggles, Emmett Otter, and Jim Henson himself.. A great coffee table and reference book for the masses.
Jim Henson was one of the only "celebrities" that I literally burst into tears when I learned of his death. This book is a collection of quotes by and about Jim Henson and the characters he played. For example:
"He changed our lives. He changed the world.
And we'll continue his work, because that's how inspiration operates. People die, but inspiration lives and grows. Inspired by his gentleness, we'll fill the world with gentleness. Inspired by his vision, we...more

This is one of those books which will either bore you to tears, or make you want to cry. For me, it was the latter. Jim Henson really was one of those rare geniuses that just seems to understand life and people better than anyone else. The book is a collection of quotes by Henson, those that knew him, and quotes from Muppets and Sesame Street characters. They all deal with his philosophy on the meaning of life, happiness, and getting along with each other. I've always been a big fan of his,...more
I previously read and reviewed the condensed version of this book:

And though I still feel mostly the same way, I think I may be leaning a little more toward bad editing of the smaller book. Though Jim's wisdom is still not super-deep, it's still deeper than the short book would lead one to believe.
This version makes it ever more clear that Jim and Kermit are one and the same (like the sweet sound that calls the young sailors...more

This is a very sweet book of quotations and thoughts from Jim Henson, his colleagues, family and friends. There are also quotes from Muppets and Fraggles--which is great, because I love those characters. Lots of good words to live by, and you can't help but smile as you read them. Many of the songs and lyrics in the book are still a part of Sesame Street--I know because it's my son's absolute favorite show! This is a lovely little book.

A delightful quick read that includes numerous quotes from Jim Henson, his coworkers in his muppet business and many muppets themselves, including, but not limited to favorites such as Kermit the frog, Ernie and Bert and even a few Fraggles. These quotes tell a wonderful tale about a man who truly loved his work in creating timeless characters that we all know and love so dearly. A great pick-me-up read.
i really love this book. Lots of heartwarming quotes na dlyrics. Lots of stories baout what a great man he was.
One of my favorite quotes from this book:
" I cannot say why I am good at what I do, but I can say I work very hard at it...Perhaps one thing that has helped me in achieving my goals is that I sincerely believe in what I do, and get great pleasure from it. I feel very fortunate because I can do what I love to do".

Featuring the voices of John Lithgow, Whoopi Goldberg, and Jerry Nelson (from the Muppets), with a little snippet of Jim Henson's voice, too. All people I love dearly.
But the story itself kind of went in one ear and out the other. There were some lovely bits that just didn't stick, which was frustrating. Maybe I need to read the hardback and see if I appreciate it more.

Not quite as fun as I was expecting, but interesting glimpses into the history of the muppets and other Jim Henson productions. It's really a collection of quotes from Henson and those who worked with him through the years. Nothing really new or surprising, but a few of the quotes from Henson himself are good, particularly when he talks about how to view work life and fun life--get your work done so you can go have fun!
This was a wonderful, loving tribute to Jim Henson. It is a collection of his quotes, and quotes about him by others. It is very nicely put together. I suppose if you were not a fan of The Muppets and Jim Henson, you probably would not like this book. But for those who loved him, and his work, they will enjoy this lovely book.
"As children, we all live in a world of imagination, of fantasy, and for some of us thay world of make believe continues into adulthood. Certainly I've lived my whole life through my imagination. But that world of imagination is there for all of us-a sense of play, of pretending, of wonder. It's there with us as we live."

Oh,I so wish Jim Henson had lived much longer. What a wonderful human being!! This is a sweet little book and a must for any big Muppet fan (which I am) or just about anybody else. If the world only could live by Jim's philosophies.... And his humour is sensational as well!!! Long live Kermit and friends!!!
Small book with wonderful quotes from Jim, his friends and family, and the wonderful muppets he created. A wonderful man who will be loved by generations to come. I see that when I listen to my grandson's laughter as he is watching Sesame Street just like his mommy 30 years ago.
Jim Henson is my forever hero, and this is a lovely little collection of quotes by him, his friends, and his Muppets. It made me feel all sappy and heart-warmed.
Don't know that it's worth buying on its own, but as a gift, it was a lovely thing to receive.

This collection of quotes from Jim Henson, various Muppets, and Jim's friends and family make up an uplifting, lovely collection in this small book. Not outwardly funny like many of the Muppet books, it is more of a positive outlook touching on a variety of topics.
Not exactly a tough read, but it was a sweet tribute to Jim Henson, who has always been one of my heroes. This little book made me love him more, and made me wish I could be more like him. It probably made me think more than anything I've read in awhile.
What a lovely little book. If you like Kermit, Cookie Monster, and Jim’s other work, and if their collected wisdom won’t strike you as trite and if you don’t mind a little adoration, then I recommend this book. The illustrations (by Jim) are awesome.
This is a tribute and a biography, of sorts, of Jim Henson told through his own words and drawings, as well as the words of friends, co-workers, children, and even the muppets themselves. It's truly inspirational at times and a great reminder to dream.
This book has alot of very interesting quotes from Jim Henson, creator of the Muppets, as well as quotes about him from friends and family and coworkers. A good resource to have handy if you like Jim Henson and/or the Muppets.
Life’s like a movie, write your own ending
Keep believing, keep pretending
We’ve done just what we set out to do
Thanks to the lovers, the dreamers, and you.

Not a novel, just a compilation of quotes by and about Jim Henson, muppet characters etc. Interesting.... not something to rush out and buy (I got it as a gift)... I like it.
This is a lovely little book. I sent to my mom on the anniversary of my father's passing. He adored Jim Henson and this book is/was a perfect memento to her to honor my dad.
Needs some editing. Quotes like "I believe life is basically growth" don't really need to be included, mostly because that is not life, but cancer, and the fraggles are more eloquent.
Life's like a movie, write your own ending / Keep believing, keep pretending / We've done just what we set out to do / Thanks to the lovers, the dreamers, and you.
Lots of good qoutes, but not quite as good as I was hoping it would be. It seemed like something was missing. But I love Kermit and Jim Henson was amazing.
Lots of great bits of humor and nuggets from Henson and other people influential with the making of the Muppets. A great read for any Henson fan.
Jim Henson was, in my opinion, one of the most intelligent and creative human-beings on the entire planet. He just had such the imagination!
This is one I will always keep on my bookshelf. I open it to any miscellaneous page when I need a pick me up and it works every time.
