Urban fantasy books are always difficult for me. Whenever I see a shelf of those in a store, I look at a few titles and hope something will look interesting. They seldomly do, because all these books are the same to me: Hot heroine with at least one guy on every finger. (I blame this on Anita Blake, who I liked, at first, but after a while I got so bored with her books and, I'm glad I did because, apparently, I stopped reading before the completely messed up books came.)

But back to t More...

I read Succubus Blues first over 2 years ago and liked it A LOT. Since then Mead embarked on a money-making trip and managed to completely ruin Vampire Academy for me. The latest Succubus book was meh as well. (Her Dark Swan books are not even worth mentioning IMO.) I started questioning myself - were Mead's books ever good? Or I simply liked them because this series was one of my first encounters with fresh then genre of urban fantasy?

Good news, Succubus Blues i More...

Succubus Blues is about Georgina Kincaid, a very reluctant succubus. She was born human but traded her soul to a devil to pay for a mistake she made. Ever since she became a succubus she hasn't really liked it. She's good at the seducing and sucking their life energy part, but she doesn't enjoy it. She's been sticking to sucking life energy only from souls of bad or sinful people. She's managed to make a few friends along the way however, and she's currently posing as a human working at a local More...

SEX ANYONE?

Well, you're in luck.
Oodles of it in these books.

But aside from all the glorious filth, there is also much laughter to be had with this series.
Once again we are introduced to another of Richelle Meads' baddass heroines, Georgina. Who manages to rid the city of various demons, evils, etc. whilst maintaining an equally baddass sex life.

***RE-read July 2011 as a buddy read - I am giving it a higher rating this time around after realizing that the first time I read the book, I had come down off a high from one of my favorites and was way too hard on this book. Even though I enjoyed it the first time and did consider it to be about a 3.5 at the time, I enjoyed it much more the second time. 4 plus stars! I love this series as a whole and would love to see more VA fans read Richelle Mead's adult series.***

This was the first book I ever read by Richelle Mead and I loved it instantly.
Succubus Blue is one fantastic book. It is full of witty characters who you will fall in love with, deliciously hot romance and plenty of twists and turns you never see coming.
This story is about Georgina Kincaid who works for hell. She is succubus an alluring shape shifting demon who seduces mens while sucking life force from them as payment to hell. She much prefers her day job as a manager of a loca More...

Paranormal romance/urban fantasy thingy that I enjoyed in spite of some rather obvious flaws. Namely: the writing’s only okay (no first person narrator should ever say “as I noted earlier” unless they’re narrating an academic text), the identity of the villain is obvious pretty much from the moment he’s introduced, and the ending’s kind of an anti-climactic cop out. I was also kind of bummed that in a novel about angels and demons, no one seemed particularly good or evil; there’s a second-rate C More...

The first book introducing readers to the world of Georgina Kincaid is just good old fashioned urban fantasy fun. The world building is not intense nor is it complicated. The mystery is easy to figure out and many of the characters act in a predictable way. But damn, this is the most fun I have had reading an urban fantasy book in a long time. The story is told from the point of view of Georgina and she is a succubus with a conscience (supposedly). She loves sex, loves male attention, but m More...

I love Richelle Mead's writing. She writes action packed books with plenty of humor, and amazingly real, varied characters. Unfortunately, as I feared, I'm not so keen on the Succubus theme. The fact that I liked this book despite this amazes me...

What I liked

Seth is amazing. He's not like the usual alpha heroes I love. he's sweet, creative, shy. I like the way he acts around Georgina and the fact he's an author and gets absorbed into writing.

Already a huge fan of Mead's Vampire Academy, I wasn't sure how I'd take her Urban Fantasy series since I've never been a huge fan of it really. Leave it to Richelle Mead to change all that and have this sensational masterpiece hit my favorites shelf!
I don't know how Mead does it, like the first VA book it was a slow go in the beginning and this one was the same way for me, but then out of know where your hooked to ever word, every character and it was impossible to put down.

Oh man. I read this book in about 5 hours. I was expecting a vapid "hi, I have a lot of sex, watch me boink all these men" kind of story. At first, I honestly thought it would be, when Georgie started to talk about her designer shoes (note to authors: women don't care about designer shoes as much as you think. Stop mentioning them!), but I really got hooked when we, the readers, meet Seth. After that, I couldn't put this book down.

I don't really have a lot of criticism More...

I honestly don't know why I picked up this book. The blurb on Amazon made it sound like Laurell Hamilton's Princess Mereidth if she had taken a left and gone down cutesy chick-lit lane.

I had resigned myself to a too, too precious wanna be witty read complete with me rolling my eyes and wondering "was I really that bored?"

But imagine my surprise when the book turned out to be pretty good and not quite the archly-witty piece of fluff the blurb makes it out to be. G More...

Okay, just an observation, the woman on the cover is not how I perceive Georgina and does not seem drop dead all men turn gorgeous. IMO.

I cannot believe I am feeling sorry for a succubus. Georgina has been a succubus for a long time and tries to limit her "meals" to bad men. But now she's met two guys she really likes and is trying hard to stick to her rules. This book was better than I thought. The covers did nothing for me and when I had heard that the major heroin More...

This story, following Georgina, a succubus who also happens to be a bookstore manager, was definitely a fun romp, and a great piece of mind candy.

The supernatural community in Seattle is being attacked by unknown forces, and it's up to Georgina and a motley crew of demons, vampires, imps, and angels to figure out what's going on before anyone else gets hurt. While facing the supernatural threat, Georgina also finds herself threatened by her growing attraction to two mortal men- one More...

Georgina is gorgeous, smart, friendly, loyal... and a succubus.
--- That's right folks. She has sex with men to survive. It doesn't sound half bad, right? Wrong. The catch... and there is always a catch, while it might be fun for awhile.. but I would imagine it would get tiring after awhile. She is basically sending good or even not so good souls to hell. But who is she to blame? All she is doing is surviving.

Really!!! Richelle Mead knows how to make a person get glued to her book towards the end. I will rate her the top author in "Authors who gave best endings to their books". Even though I didn't like her Bloodlines much, still her ending made me want to come again for her next book in the series. This first book in the series Succubus Blues, is even better.

Although I can predict some of the twists in the book, the remaining part really made me catch my breath. Seth, a fam More...

Okay.. So I have a thing with witches and succubus which started when I was at my teens (ahem, I still consider myself as a teenager. LOL.)

I have to admit, I didn't liked this book at first.. *Received, read and reviewed for "The Season for Romance".

Georgina Kincaid is a succubus (a female demon that seduces men and lives off the life force they release during sex), albeit a reluctant one. She was human once, hundreds of years ago, but she made a big mistake and paid for it with her life. Now hundreds of years later she longs for the life she could have had; love, a family and intimacy without the fear of killing her partner. All and all, she’s done well for More...

For the majority of the book, the one word I kept thinking that it was was 'cute'- which I know may seem a little bizarre given the subject matter. And I don't mean it in a bad way either. It was just really easy to read. It's occasionally difficult to get into the first of a series as you get used to the writer's style and characters, but I didn't find any such adjustment period necessary. I really like Georgina, and find her frustration at her situation palpable- and without being whiney a More...

Oh wow. I enjoyed the hell out of this book. It's a nicely original paranormal romance/urban fantasy; there are vampires, but they are supporting characters rather than the main focus. Instead, Richelle Mead uses the creatures of Judeo-Christian mythology as her focus: angels, demons, and the main character, Georgina, is a succubus.

The book maintains a nice balance between the supernatural mystery--what is killing the evil employees of Seattle?--and Georgina's royally screwed up l More...

Received signed copies of this book and also Vampire Academy for Christmas; my aunt knows the author. When I first read the back of this book and saw the shoe comment, I thought of MaryJanice Davidson's Betsy Taylor books, which, although amusing, are not on my high priority list to be read. So I put this book aside and ready Vampire Academy first. Although I didn't love that book (I did enjoy it, just didn't love it), the writing definitely got me interested in the author enough to immediat More...

This book is just fun. If you enjoyed the BtVS TV series, you'll like this for its glimpse into the every day lives of minor, major demons and assorted other agents of evil as well as the angels who are their drinking buddies and poker partners. Demons are credited with creating middle management and bureaucracy, and the characters do some minor bitching about their literally hellish papaerwork. The main character, a reluctant, formerly human succubus and bookstore assistant manager is very wel More...

So, I was really not sure I would like this, because I kind of assumed it would be like most of the other urban fantasies I've read--you know, mouthy, violent ladies attracted to grody, overly-muscled, violent, long-haired men and too graphically described sex scenes. Even though several good friends who know my tastes told me I would probably enjoy it, I sort of didn't completely believe them. BUT. OMG. This book TOTALLY hooked me, almost IMMEDIATELY. There is no getting around the fact that the main character in this book is an idiot. Oddly enough, I basically enjoyed most of the story in spite of this. My enjoyment ended, however, when right near the end she is proven to be horrifyingly selfish as well as stupid. If this was set up to be a multi-volume tale of redemption that would be one thing, but it's almost as if the reader is expected to understand and support a character who thinks it's better to kill innocent people than to have More...

This was unexpected, but I really liked this book. It sounds like it'd be a bit trashy - based on the title - but it's well-written and interesting. It's a fun mystery-type story with a theme vaguely reminiscent of the Police song Roxanne, but set within the context of the struggle between good and evil. It's got an entertaining cast of characters with a strong lead, and it's sexy and fun. I had the mystery solved early on, but the book was compelling enough to keep me reading. I wished Geo More...
