The sixth tale of the Mercia series, finds us back in 1004 follow Hastings the hearth companion from the third tale as he helps the people of East Anglia repel the Viking hoards on the orders of the Golden Cross, whose identity remains secret to many and is only revealed in the closing scene of the story. In the sixth Lost Tale of Mercia, the reader is treated to an exciting battle -- although the more intriguing story lies beneath. We're given a glimpse into the mind of a loyal retainer who would do anything for the woman he loves.
