As one of the few to get to read the book before it hit shelves, I must say that I loved it and can't wait to see how these characters develop.
Pine takes an extrodinary risk in her first book saga, by creating a story focusing on the lifespan of eight uniquely gifted children (though we don't meet them all just yet in this first installment), and the very smallest encounters and decisions that will develop them to who they are. We begin to ask ourselves, is it fate that leads them on their path...more

Imagine being a five- to ten-year-old kid and being burdened with a "war" that you don't even know about. Now, imagine that this "war" involves dragons. This book is just the beginning, following most of the eight kids' lives as they learn what their powers are and about the dragons.
I absolutely love it.
It takes the time to go through each child's lives as they grow up from children. It shows the events that shape them and make them who they are.
It's very daring.

In a world where dragons rule under the guise as humans, a silent war rages between the two supreme dragon factions - the Tueri and the Debellos. Each want to rule, but to gain control of five magical yet powerful children would be all it takes to tip the scales. With their worlds unbalanced and tragically torn from their families at a tender age, the five children wind up at the Academy to learn their special skills. The dragons keep an eye on their Wards as they grow and learn, each hoping to...more
B Pine has created a world like no other.
Familiar Origins is a great choice for anyone who loves Fantasy, Shapeshifting, Dragons and Magic.
This book most deff has a little bit of everything. The plotline isnt centered on one specific characters but multiple characters, all of which have their strengths, weaknesses, powers and stories to tell.
I love each of them in their own way. The story pulls you in from the beginning and as it goes on all you want to know is what happens next with each of t...more

'Familiar Origins' is the first installment in 'The Draca Wards Saga'. B. Pine has done an amazing job of creating a new world, with unforgettable characters. 'Familiar Origins' is one of those books that grabs you from the first page, pulls you in, and keeps you there. I mean, what more could you ask for? Magic, shape shifting, dragons, warriors, epic battles. This book has a little bit of everything that turns a good book into a great book!

If you like dragons, magic, and stories with lots and lots of characters, you have to read this book! I visited the website www.dracawards.com and was pumped to see that this is going to be a saga! I hope the next installment doesn't take long to come out.
I received this book for free from the Goodreads first read giveaway. Follow a group of children as they grow up and experience all the problems that kids have. But they also have the problem of possesing supernatural powers. Throw in two groups of powerful Dragons that want to control them and you have the makings of a story that could last for many books.
