Danielle Steel's Johnny Angel is a winner. This book should come with a box of tissues though, because to quote an old Bachrach and David song, "Anyone who had a heart" would not get through this book without shedding some tears. OK, without shedding a lot of tears.

This is the story of a teenager (Johnny) who's life is cut too short and how he comes back to help put his family and his girlfriend's family back together again, though only two people can see him, his mother and his younger brother....more

I'm sorry. I just couldn't finish is. I was on the second of five CDs and all I heard was how wonderful Johnny was, how perfect, no flaws, and how when he died people cried for a month. I get that he was loved but as someone who lost both parents and a sister, I can tell you that it isn't healthy to cry for a month. No other emotions. I loved my mother dearly, but at her viewing/funeral, there was laughter as friends and relatives shared stories. If the people in this book, and it wasn't just hi...more

how dead can become so alive despite the fact he is dead, Danielle Steel’s book showed miracle. Despaired by the loss of the dearest son of a mother and his family, Johny had returned by means to fix things up before he could truly leave. He brought together his family which nearly shattered into nothingness after accident which changed his father and younger brother’s life to his death. He also learned to let go his loved one, who has been together with him since young. His love was strong till...more

This book is based on her real-life son's life. Having a chemical imbalance is a heart rending situation for any family. I think Steele tells us the bottom line truth. She is repetitive because the events in her son's life was repetitive.....that's how the sickness goes.....and these people with these kinds of difficulties need to be understood....thus her repetitive trying to help us "see" the situation.

I admire her for being open and telling THIS STORY.

I listened to about half of this book on CD, but didn't finish it. I don't know whether I didn't like it because of the writing or because of the reader's style, but I just couldn't feel any connection to the plot or the characters. I've read books with the same premise (Deceased family member watches over loved ones) and enjoyed them, but this one just seemed sentimental without any real feeling behind it.

It has been the first and the last Danielle Steel's book I have read. When I bought it, I was really intrigued! Unfortunately, when I started reading, I discovered that her writing was not so good (euphemism). I mean, yes, the book achieves its goal: it makes you cry (this is the only reason why I gave it 3 stars)but it is so frustrating reading something that a 13 years old could have written better!

Gawd Danielle Steel, I'm between barfing and tears, seriously this woman is good at two things- tugging at your heartstrings and making you cry, and creating these annoyingly, unrealistic perfect people with their annoyingly, unrealistic perfect lives. Tears and Barf. Anyway still a ok read for a cold night under the sheets with some hot cocoa, plus a short read- took me about an hour to finish.

The first out of the two books that have ever made me literally cry while reading it...I don't know if it's that the subject matter hits home or the quality of the writing is just that good, but i remember reading this and, halfway through, lunging for a tissue. Such a sweet, sad, heartbreaking, yet beautiful story. I wish Danielle Steel would write another book like this.

A very inspiring truth about a mom and a son. :) God has His own way of making people learn. And never doubt His will. Family is the most important thing in this world. No money can replace the joy that each member brings. Losing someone is very painful, but what important is realizing how to cherish each moment with them while their still here. :D

listened to the audio book version of this.
the writing is pretty bad. gets really repetitive and predictable.
but the narrator is really funny in how he delivers the lines, i cracked up a bunch of times while listening to this, though i'm sure it wasn't intended.
one star for the book itself. three stars for the entertainment value of the audio.

I think this book is very interesting and touching. so far I am on chapter 5 and its about a family who lost thier son and is just falling apart. but the son returns as a 'ghost' (i prefer to say lost soul but ok) and has to tie some loose ends. The only person who can see him though is his mother.

I agree with another reviewer that Ms. Steel's work is not what is once was. There are notable errors and quite a bit of repetition. However, she still knows how to spin a good tale, and Johnny Angel makes an entertaining light read. I would recomend a book by Debbie Macomber instead.

absolutely one of my all time favourites, I just adore adore adore this book read it over and over they never made a movie of this one which suprises me... I adore it did I mention :-) A mothers love transcends this mortal world read it and find out... truely beautiful

It was a "So-So" story of a boy, actually a very nice boy,a very-very nice boy (to good to be true!!!)who dies in the very beginnig of the story.

His parents, siblings and his girlfriend, all are mentally shattered by this traumatic accident in their life which causes the soul of the johnny to return to his people for their own good in order to sooth them all and to let them lead a normal life again.

In the end, i would say it is a very simple story with a simple narration and fancy imagination....more

Even though Danielle Steel's books have become repetitive, once in awhile I like to pick one up for a quick read. This book was one of her shorter novels. This was a different type of storyline than what she usually writes. It was a good book and sad at some parts.

Perhaps I cried more than I should because I'm on my period. The only problem with this book is the amount of repetition. Danielle Steel repeats some stuff twice or three times throughout the book. The book is about miracles and I'm a sucker for a good happy ending.

This is the first Steele book I have read and I was not too impressed. I'm gonna try again. Don't read thesummary on the cover or you will figure it out real quick. Just a little bit too predictable except for the last page. A short book that is a real quick read.

A nice quick read. This is one of those books you pick up on a rainy Saturday afternoon and just sit down with a cup of tea and enjoy with no expectation of having to concentrate. The story was predictable, but still held my interest.

Amazing story, helped me cope with my own grief a little bit. If i wasn't so numb i would have cried when he helped each family member. but this story isnt about the character or the plot, it is about relationships in general.

When my best friend Jeffery was killed in a car wreck when he was 16, it was one of the hardest times of my life. This book helped me to get through that terrible time in my life and remember to smile.

i saw johnny angel in real life. funny but true! anyways.. there is a life after death. we are all given chance to make our love ones feel that we love them. so do it while still on earth.
Maaham
I have to say the book was sort of boring in the beginning, but as you read on it certainly got interesting. I surprisingly found pretty sad. I could relate to the book most of the time, and I loved the way the author wrote about how the family slowly let go...

Since 1981, Ms. Steel has been a permanent fixture on the New York Times hardcover and paperback bestseller lists. In 1989, she was listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for having at least one of her books on the Times bestseller list for 381 consecutive weeks. But Guinness was premature. The fact is that one or more of Ms. Steel's novels have been on the New York Times bestseller list for...more
