Susan Mallery is my go-to for contemporary romance novels! I adore her writing, and have yet to meet a character/story I don't just adore! The Buchanan's have earned a special place in my heart now that I've finished this series!
I have loved following Dani through the series, and was excited to see her storyline wrap up! I'm so glad that she found her biological father, although I have to admit that I was disappointed with him as a whole. But his family? I loved them all,...more

Earlier in the series, Dani Buchanan discovered that she would never have her dream job managing one of her family's restaurants because she wasn't truly a Buchanan. In this book, she is trying to learn more about her biological father, a state senator who is gearing up for a presidential run. He seems like a good man, who with his wife adopted six children, all with some issue varying from deafness to AIDS. His oldest son, Alex, is the biggest block standing between Dani getting to know her fat...more

This is the 4th in the Buchanan series. But only the second that I have read and now I'm obsessed about getting the others. So I guess you can say that I loved this book. Susan Mallery is a smart and funny writer and a joy to read.

This is a great book. I haven't read the previous Buchanan books, but this one stands perfectly well on its own. The plot is perfectly constructed, deceptively simple yet never boring. And all the characters are fun to read. Best of all, the chemistry between the two main characters, Dani and Alex, is convincing and highly entertaining. The attraction between these two comes alive off of the page and, despite their relatively brief acquaintance, you can really see them fall for each other as the...more
I gave it an honest 5 *
I liked each Mallery book I`ve read to varying degrees and most of them a lot.And thats even tho it`s political which I will rarely read. But loved this one.
I loved Alex the Hero and the h was ok, but she had to be stupid to push her way in the middle of a presidential campaign like she did to find her real Dad-of course then the rest of the book had a good dose of whining about the repercussions from that Dumb act. That and believing Alex`s x wifes lies about him all the w...more

3.5 stars. This is the last in Mallery's "Buchanan" books, a good series for readers who like contemporary romances that are light in feel, but have some meat on their bones.
I read this a few years ago and thought it might improve on rereading in its proper place at the end of the series; it did, a bit. I appreciated Dani's straightforwardness and take-no-prisoners attitude in the previous books, and knowing how much she suffered in them made it more forgivable that she wimps out somewhat in th...more

Another sweetly romantic Susan Mallery book. I just have an overall love of this author's sense of humor and writing style. I've listened to all of her books on audio, and she has the best reader (Therese Plummer on most of her books) that never fails to bring all the characters to life and makes her books unfold before my very ears.

Okay, but not one of Susan Mallery's better books. This s the fourth in the Buchanan series and have read the first, and really enjoyed it. Based on what I previously read about Dani and what was disclosed to have happened to her since, this story had so much more potential. To have a love interest (whom I really liked) that just happened to be her long lost fathers adopted son was just plain weird. Also, the "Gloria" turnaround seemed too insincere and too unbelieable based on previous behavior...more
I'm beginning to think there's nothing Susan Mallery can write that is going to impress me. It's the fourth book I've read after the Fools Gold Almost trilogy, and I just can't get into her. The plot on this was meh, and the characters were meh. I liked Katherine, who wasn't even a main. The two leads were just...eh. Dani felt extremely wishy washy. She was just too good, and when she wasn't too good to be true, she was dishwater. Alex never quite captured my attention because I just never under...more
My prediction was correct. As of this moment, Buchanans is definitely my favorite Susan Mallery series.
I have to admit I was a little worried about this book. Even though I really liked Dani and had been looking forward to finally getting to her book, I wasn't sure how I felt about the introduction of so many new characters. However, while I missed seeing the Buchanan men as much as in previous books, I actually really came to like the Canfields.

A great end to the series. Dani has been hurt in relationships many times before. First, by her ex-husband Hugh, her disabled college sweetheart who cheated on her before leaving her. Then, her rebound guy Ryan ended up being married. He knew about Hugh's betrayal, but thought nothing about his own to his wife and toddler or that Dani would have a problem with it. Then, she meets a sweet guy with whom she has no sexual spark. At the beginning of their first date, she finds out he's an ex-priest,...more

I loved reading this book because the plot stayed interesting and flowed wonderfully. What I didn't like was when Dani told Alex about Fiona's pregnancy he just walked away and didn't fight for her. I also didn't like when Dani told him she was going to leave he walked away *again*. Doesn't the man have balls enough to fight for his woman? I will give him some credit, though. At the end he recruited the Buchanan's and his Mom and Dad to win Dani over. That was why I didn't give this book only 3...more

There was no spark and the prose left me bored. I thought the author was trying to tell the story while setting up all the usual plot points but failing to engage the reader emotionally. I hadn't read the previous books in the series, which may explain my lack of emotional attachment to any of the characters I met in chapter 1. However a good author will draw you in emotionally with each new novel rather than count on past experience.

I was surprised by this book. I have always liked Dani and thought she got shifted by Gloria. I was glad to see that changed.
I can understand Dani wanting to find her father, turns out he was a VIP and she walked into the fire. Her father was a cold fish from the start, I had a hard time liking him. It seemed like he didn't considered his family at all, they were more like props.

This is the 4th book in the series, which means I'm reviewing them a little out of order. The Buchanan sister is the heroine in this book. In one of the earlier books, it's revealed that the grandma is so mean to the heroine because she's not actually a Buchanan. Mom had an affair and the heroine was the result. So the heroine, in this book, decides to go dig up dear old dad (not literally--he's alive). Turns out Dad is a senator in the midst of a pre-campaign for president. He wasn't married wh...more

Their love is so beautiful!

sad to see series finished because I really love this family, but it was a good ending. Dani finally got her chance at love and a father age never new she had. another tear jerked in parts...what can I say...I'm a sap. glad to see two people who never felt.they belonged... find eachother. Alex and Dani are a great match and Dani's long lost family became endeared to me as well. great story.
A great conclusion to the Buchanans series. I've been curious of Dani's happily ever after since her and her husband divorced. Alex made a great match for her. I enjoyed their growing relationship throughout the book. I did find myself ready to throw the book close to the end. Dani came around to being one of those annoying heroines for a time. But I was still happy with the conclusion to this families series.
And so this was the last one! :( The story about the little Buchanan sister was really good. After she was told she was the daughter of her mother's affair with another man, she went searching for him. The ex-bad gramma told her the name and she began to explore this new family.
As I said before, all those books are sweet, maybe a little sappy here and there, but really a great reading!

I liked the storyline of this book. Dani's search for her birth father, him being a politician with a big adopted family, Alex and Dani's attraction, the father not being perfect etc. The themes were quite dense and interesting, especially the story when it is centered around Alex's mom, she is a very interesting character.
I real page turner and it is nice to see a Buchanan lady who is as sexy as her brothers.

Man I hate it when there are at least 10 things not settled and the book has only 5 pages left in it. I start to get really irritated as I am reading towards the end of the book and I can see that we are going to "wrap it all up" in a less-than satisfying way, really, how much can you resolve in 5 pages.
Enjoyed the book but wanted SO MUCH MORE at the ending.

I wanted to like this book more, but had trouble getting past the whole brother-sister thing (even though they weren't related by blood and didn't grow up together). I also had trouble believing the motives behind some of the secondary characters actions. The Buchanans series up until this point had been better, should have ended with #3.
Ok this book has some great line! Two of them were almost in the same breath.
"Your comparing me to two assholes and a priest!"
then
"The only way I'll ever be comfortable getting naked with a man again is to be in to be totally in charge. I would probably have to tie him up first" I almost fell off my chair laughing!

A little dramatic but a nice end to a fun series. Dani finally gets her own HEA and completes the Buchanan siblings' stories.
She gets a little annoying at times, especially when she insists her way is the 'only solution', when it obviously isn't.
Alex manages to balance her out nicely, being the logical party even if he is a little proud.
I found Katherine a little frustrating and insubstantial at times but I get the reasons for her reactions considering her misapprehensions.
