Kicks Halo's arse...loved it!
I've been rather disappointed in most of the Angel books that have come my way recently - too slow, too insipid (seriously, I couldn't even read Halo without snorts of derision and finally gave up for the sake of my colleagues sanity) and too whiny.
EMBRACE was none of these - it's smart, intriguing, fast paced and thoroughly enjoyable. Violet is a character that is easy to root for - she is believable and strong and is essentially (besides the obvious) a More...

You know that kind of book...the one when you start reading that book, you're immediately swept into the fantasy world created? The one where you're connecting with the characters - laughing and cringing and reacting with them? The one where you stay up too late reading, no matter what you have going on the next day, because you can't wait to find out where the story is going? The one where you find yourself frantically turning the More...

Angels seem to be the new vampires, so here's another up-and-coming attempt to make angels sexy. Shirvington actually puts some new spins on the "working" mythology (that is to say, all the mythos and terms that are showing up in all the books of late). She's clearly trying to keep away from the black and white, good/evil dichotomy. Unfortunately, she never explains her world well, and through the book there are some inconsistencies. (We're told repeatedly that "light" and "

I have not been so drawn into a book in ages!
This book had me from page one. There was just something about Violet that I connected with. She made mistakes and hasty decisions but it made the whole story that much more believable. I'm sick of reading book that I just dont connect with. But Violet takes chances and stands up for herself and I like that. I can't wait to read the next book.

After reading 'Fallen" by Lauren Kate, one could forgive me for being a little turned off angel paranormal fiction, but I am glad I picked up "Embrace". The heroine is all you can want of a protagonist; she's spunky, self reliant (as shown by the lack of parents and adult figures in her life) She is clueless about romance and men, has a horrible memory in her past that makes her hesitant. She even *SPOILER* gives into the dark, without knowing she has done so. It is also refreshin

Having been generally disappointed with the spate of angels books out there (Fallen being an example - though well written, it was described by one reviewer as moving at glacial speed and I think that was accurate), this book was recommended to me by someone whose judgement I trust....I was not disappointed.

Most teenagers see each birthday as a rite of passage placing them further ahead on the track to adulthood. For Violet Eden, however, birthdays are a time of regret and mourning: Violet remains haunted by the loss of her mother, who died during childbirth. Violet was just an ordinary girl with a normal life. Raised by a single father who was a workaholic she spent a lot of time alone and if not for best friend Steph, who was always trying to get her to the mall, her social life would be almost non-existent. So there were some parts of her life that were a little less ordinary like her relationship with Lincoln, whom she spent all her time training with. Over all it was normal and it was hers.

I joined Goodreads just so I could say how amazing this book was!
I have always enjoyed YA books but struggle sometimes when I feel like paranormal and supernatural novels are just based on one floating idea and then we are expected to just jump on board. Embrace is not like this at all. From the word go, we are drawn into the world of Violet and we can relate to and sympathise with her easily. On top of that, is a detailed web of folklore and mythology which left me only wanting to know mor More...

Wow, talk about an amazing book. I started Embrace last night, and I finished it right around an hour ago. It was an extremely fast read, and it packed a ton of excitement into the small amount of time I took to read it. I haven't read but one other Angel book, but I have heard enough about a lot of them to know they tend to share some similarities. But that's not a bad thing, I feel like in this case you can't really stray to far from the path. I like to think it falls along the lines of "

WOW. I was absolutely blown away at how much I enjoyed this debut novel! I was getting tired of reading Angel stories, but this one was so blissfully different. I highly recommend it!
First of all I have to say - I can't believe this is Jessica Shirvington's first story! It was simply amazing and so well-written. The story was perfectly mapped out and planned, it unfolded at a great pace and almost everything was explained in a timely fashion. Instead of a huge slew of questions with no More...

Jessica Shirvington is better known in Australia as the wife of former Olympic athlete, Matt Shirvington, but with her debut release of Embrace she’s set to make a name for herself in the young adult writers scene.

Embrace is not your usual angel book. At first I thought it was going to be that book, but when I started reading it, I saw the differences it had with other angel books.
The premise was actually interesting and it’s what made me agree to read and review the book. The story plot is actually great. There are some flaws and things get pretty confusing and boring at times, but the pace immediately catches up and picks up where the last good thing left off. The characters were okay. Thou More...

It’s obvious from the blurb that there’s a love triangle on the way. I usually love these, but this one not so much. It was heavily weighted to one side, and for me it wasn’t the side I wanted. There’s lots of build up to one relationship and then bam, you’re shoved into the other one. I realised there was a need to develop the second pairing, but the way it was done came across somewhat jarring considering the strength of her feelings towards the first guy. Now with that said, I actually did lo

OMG OMG OMG! This book blew me away and all other angel books out of my mind, well maybe not my Hush, Hush but close. This author wrote an amazing book, it was mind blowing.
This book pulls you in from the beginning, makes you addicted and wanting more. It was kind of like a drug but in a good way. I tried to go to bed but all I could think about was this book and it only happened with two other series!!!!
The characters in this book are real and kickass. Violet is just More...

It was a toss up between 4 stars and 3.5 stars. Mainly 3.5.
This book had all the potential to be a great book and I "enjoyed" the most part of it but at the same time I didn't like it. The plot itself was great and original but everything seemed to happen SO fast which made important events fuse together and become insignificant. Violet I'm still not sure if I like but I think that's mainly because of Phoenix but I'll get to that later. Novels about angels I don't usually l More...

Violet Eden lives with her workaholic father in London. Her mother died in childbirth. She trains with an extremely hot guy, Lincoln, because of things that happened to her in her past. She's determined never to let herself be in a position of weakness again.
Vi's feelings for Lincoln are more than just friendly, though. And right when she's getting ready to tell him how she feels, the mysterious and smolderingly seductive Phoenix walks into her life. Phoenix tells her that Linco More...

The author of this book is clearly talented. She's a good writer, she had some interesting plot elements, and I think she had a unique approach to the whole angel concept... Or at least a better thought-out approach than a lot of the other angel-books I've seen lately. And it was definitely better-written than some of the ones I (barely) squeaked through!
But there were a lot of YA cliches, for me... (CAUTION, MINOR SPOILERS/things you find out early on in story):

I read this book from start to finish in just a few hours. I was gripped from the very first page. The storyline is unique & not like any other YA lit. book I've read before. It had aspects of The Mortal Instruments Boxed Set: City of Bones; City of Ashes; City of Glass series, but at the same time, it was completely different.
Immediately you will fall in love with Violet and the adventures that begin on her 17th birthday.
I hope that there is a happy ending to this series a More...

I honestly had to stop re-reading Embrace just to start this review! It's the kind of book that catches your attention from page one and keeps it long even after the last page is turned. Make sure that you have lots of time when you start this because you won't be able to put it down!
Embrace is about angels, but it's in no way just another angel book! There are Grigori, and angel exiles, and sacrifices needed to embrace their power. It was so easy to get sucked into the twisting plot More...

This one grabbed me from the first page. After Violet's mother died in childbirth, her father was a broken man and she lived mostly on her own. In the last few years, she has finally settled into a routine with a new friend, Lincoln. On her seventeenth birthday, everything changes. She tries to move things to the next level with Linc and he runs away, her father gives her a mysterious present left before her birth from her mother, and she has an ominous dream. After this, everything happens very
