A feast for the eyes, Ian Wallace has illustrated the famous song commissioned by CBC for Canada’s 100th birthday. The addition of the artwork makes the song come alive for a new generation of Canadians. Sheet music is included in the back of the book as well.

A lovely tribute to those who worked, sacrificed and died building the railroad. It also mourns the destruction of nature and the fact that the virgin country is gone forever, while celebrating the advances

Canadian Railroad Trilogy is a 12 x 9 hardcover children's book that is illustrated by Ian Wallace. The book and art in it is inspired by Gordon Lightfoot's song with the same name as the book title. The song itself was commissioned in 1967 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Canada. The song describes how the Canadian Pacific Railroad was built. Each page is fully and lavishly illustrated with images that bring the song to life. The book does not censor the song, as it talks about drinking ...more

The music and lyrics to “Canadian Railroad Trilogy,” written by Gordon Lightfoot in 1967 to mark Canada’s centennial year, tell of the construction of the Cana

Gorgeous, gorgeous artwork in this book, but the song didn't work as well for a story as I thought it would. It might have been better if I tried to sing it, but reading it was awkward, and I had much to explain.

This is a family favourite. We have sung this song going north to the cottage for years. When the book came out my daughter (who at four knows the lyrics) was immediately drawn to the illustrations. A terrific book.

A classic Canadian folk song by one our country's greatest songwriters paired with illustrations into a story book? YES, YES, YES! It also helped that there was at least one illustration of a horse!
