I know with all the good reviews something is wrong with me, but I didn‘t care for this book. I read to page 150 and found the hero and heroine still wasn’t on what you’d call real conversing terms, they knew each other and really have the hott’s for each other, but they are not getting together yet, even just to talk... I kept reading and got to page 190 and found now they had some hot sex, but wait they are still not on good speaking terms or together (so, I am bored now! Although the ghost is...more

Sins of a Highland Devil is set in 1300s Scotland, in the Highlands. It tells of 3 clans - the MacDonalds, the Camerons, and the Mackintoshes - who all grudgingly own the Glen of Many Legends together. However, they are constantly fighting over the property of the Glen, so much that it has attracted the attention of the King, who sets up a fight to the death to see which clan will ultimately win the Glen.

The "Devil" of the title is James Cameron, the chieftain of the Cameron clan. He and Catrion...more

I have been in sort of a "historical slump", a slump I thought included highlanders. Oh, boy, was I wrong!

As the book opens, the last owner of the Glen has died, leaving descendants in each of the three Clans that live in the Glen. The King has ordered the three Clans to each put up 30 men, who will fight to the last one standing. The victorious clan will own the Glen. Alasdair MacDonald has just received the messenger bearing the news and he is not happy. Catriona, his sister, can't believe her...more

“I have seen that peace will be had when innocents pay the price of blood and gold covers the glen.”

This is Gorm’s prophecy to James, the laird of Clan Cameron regarding King Robert’s writ that the three clans of the Glen of Many Legends compete in a trail by combat to determine which Clan will be the sole inhabitant of the glen.

Concerned over the king’s orders, two members of feuding Clans, a fiery redhead, Catriona MacDonald and proud, handsome James Cameron are drawn together. In the afterma...more

I loved the supernatural element to the story and Scandia, the ghost, had a much more interesting and romantic love story than Catriona did. However, I did like how Catriona wanted to help Scandia and felt sympathy for her.

For me, this book would have been better if I had liked the hero more and if the story had been more romantic. I just didn't feel like the hero and heroine felt anything more than lust for each other. James kept saying he loved Catriona, but he didn't show it. He always pushed...more

Would you believe I just won this book through FirstReads? My luck is definitely not good enough for this to be remotely random; obviously my ridiculous level of activity on the site is being rewarded! I may never have to go to the library again!!! Anyway, as one reader labeled this book, I'll enjoy reading about "highland hunks in kilts."

Okay, now that I've finished reading... This book was a bit different than my usual fare - I typically stay away from covers sporting bare-chested men, because...more

Just sixty-some pages into the book James had smoke rising from the pages just by his words and I was totally in love with him. This couple definitely have chemistry! I see him as my sword tossing hero. :) I see myself in Catriona with her hellcat ways and she's always at any given moment ready to jump into the fray with dagger raised to protect those she loves and herself if needs be. What fire this woman has!

As always and one of the things that I love about Sue-Ellen's stories is that the lor...more

Historical Romance – Jan. 25th, 2011

Poetic and wild, Sue-Ellen Welfonder creates a real and lush highland landscape. The author brings together two wild and stubborn characters that clash from the very start.

Catriona MacDonald is as fiery as she is beautiful. When an envoy from the King proclaims their land must be fought over, she fears for her brother’s life because the land in question is wanted by three clans, which all three clans have c...more

Sins Of A Highland Devil is the first book in Highland Warriors Trilogy... After reading this book I can't wait for more to follow. I was captivated from the beginning and was drawn to every page all the way to the end.

The author writes with such passion and description that it makes the characters leap right off the page. I love a book that I can get lost in and this one I was transported back in time and was able to lose myself in the story for a while.

Historical romance is one of my favorite...more

Sins of a Highland Devil begins the story of three clans, The Camerons, The MacDonalds, and the Mackintoshes, forced by the King to battle for rights to the Glen of Many Legends after the heiress to the land passed leaving no testament of who will inherit. Until this point things have been mostly amicable among the clans. James Cameron, chief of the Cameron clan, finds himself falling for Lady Catriona MacDonald, sister of the chief of the MacDonald clan. The feelings they have intensify, but bo...more

Sins of a Highland Devil lays the foundation for what will certainly be a fun romantic trilogy. We meet all three romantic leads and each character comes across distinct and clearly different from the others.

I admit that I particularly like James Cameron with his longstanding "feud" with the young and feisty Catriona MacDonald. Their shared highland pride and the unreasonable demands of the Stewart king make them natural allies, even if they allow the longstanding feud to stand in their way. Fu...more

When the King's man comes to 'Glen Of Many Legends', to inform three clans that have been warring for years, that the time has come to resolve all matters. He informs all three Lairds of each clan that they will have to meet and battle and fight for one clan to reign over the Glen. When Lady Catriona hears along with her brother Alasdair, of these summons, so is full of rage. Catriona is very passionate about her home and her clan and views the other two clans as enemies. But she also knows that...more

This is a delightful story of Scottish lads and lassies that will make you wish you were standing in their place. A story of love, lust, longing, ghosties, hatred, rivalry and honor. A story that will talk to your soul of times long past when adults actually knew how to act like adults while chivalry stands tall and bright as a beacon in the night.

Catriona MacDonald is the epitome of the red headed Scottish woman. Daring, proud, fearless and loyal as any clanswoman could possibly be. Only proble...more

I tried to read this as my first honest-to-goodness bodice-ripper romance. I gave it more than a hundred pages. I don't know whether books in this genre normally have characters spend so much time thinking about the object of their affection, and get hot and bothered, but not actually doing anything or the plot moving forward an inch, but that was really to much for me. I couldn't finish it. There wasn't even a real sex scene until page 175 or so, which maybe was too long of a wait for me.

Harriet says: "However, none of the lairds are aware that their sisters have plotted a different gender outcome in the battle for who will be the last man standing in the Glen of Many Legends." "Sub-genre fans will be hooked into a one sitting read of Sins of a Highland Devil while anxiously awaiting the middle tale of what looks like will be one of the best medieval trilogies in years."

A "one sitting read" from forty books a day Harriet :p

The perfect Highland romance to use as an escape from boring reality. Sins of a Highland Devil takes romance to a whole new level. Devilishly delightful and intoxicating, the characters come to life and you can't help but be swept away by Sue-Ellen's writing talent. Five stars!

Finished this one on the bus this morning. What I LOVE about Sue-Ellen Welfonder's writing is the way she describes the glens and mists and the bodies of water is you don't just imagine them. If you close your eyes and picture what she has described, when you open them you are surprised you aren't really there. She doesn't just carry you away in your imagination -- she takes a part of you with her characters. You can feel the mist rising above your ankles, see the white deer and feel the magic.

Sins of a Highland Devil by Sue-Ellen Welfonder

This book is absolutely wonderful! Love, Desire, Intrigue, and a battle to the death! I could not put the book down.

The first in a trilogy about 3 clans feuding over land, the book is non-stop suspense and thrill. I could not wait to find out what James Cameron, chief of his clan, would do next. He must deal with a King, lowland interlopers, betrayal by other highland clans, menacing weather, and a woman who will not let him be.

This is a must read f...more

First Reads Winner!! Thank you !!

This was an interesting story. I loved the magic and ghosts. Made it so different from the other highlander stories that I have read. Its did feel like it took forever for them to finally get together. The battle at the end was intense. I hated that they had to fight at all. The cloaked figure was a disappointment for me. I thought there would be more to it than that. But that is ok because the rest of the story was delightful.

I liked it. There was the right mix of Scots, magic, and Highlanders in kilts for me. Make no mistake, it's a romance novel in every traditional sense of the word and sticks to the formula. But if the formula works, why change it?
Robin
good.. though sometimes the legends were confusing..who was from what clan.. and what.. never mind..

Excellent book. Loved the story.

This was a first reads winner that I very much enjoyed. It's an HR that has a bit of the mystic/fantasy thrown in. I'm looking forward to the remainder of the series (which don't even have release dates yet).

It was decent, but I figured out a key plot point less than 100 pages in. Something about the language bothered me. The accent was great, but there was something that felt off/forced. I'm not really sure what it was. I will probably read the next one as I am assuming it's going to be a trilogy.
