Disappointing and overrated.

I'll be honest: I wouldn't have understood one bit of this if I hadn't been taking a graduate course with a professor who is an expert on Rimbaud. It is only because of her that I have any clue whatsoever as to what is going on in Rimbaud's poetry. Thanks to her, I can begin to appreciate it, but in all truth I didn't enjoy it. Oh well. You can't like everything that's assigned. And at least I got something out of it, in the end (and here's hoping it's enough insight to fill an 8-10 page final p ...more

Having read this in my second language, sometimes I really enjoyed the poems and the imagery... others I had absolutely no clue what he was going on about!

French poet and adventurer, who stopped writing verse at the age of 21, and became after his early death an inextricable myth in French gay life. Rimbaud's poetry, partially written in free verse, is characterized by dramatic and imaginative vision. "I say that one must be a visionary - that one must make oneself a VISIONARY." His works are among the most original in the Symbolist movement. Rimbau ...more
