This is great book to read to your students right before you start a science lesson about the five senses. It may be too advanced for younger elementary students to read on their own, but it can be modified in ways such as the teacher reading it aloud to the class and changing the wording depending on the teacher's preference. I adore The Magic School Bus. The television show premiered the week after I was born, so I literally grew up with it. The non-Joanna Cole books that followed the success of the cartoon, however... those I can't say I'm wholly fond of. Some of them infuriate me, actually, in their wild deviance from the nature of the program and the original books.

The magic school bus is a great way to introduce children to science concepts in a fun, easy manner. In this book Mrs. Frizzle and her students explore their five senses. The illustrations really add on to the ideas and conversations that the students in Mrs. Fizzle's class are trying to make. At the end of the book students will be able to acquire a beginning understanding of their 5 senses and the world around them.
