The series about the lives and loves of the little town of St. Dennis continues where the previous novel left off, but this time with the siblings of the main characters of the previous novel. Stephanie is the younger sister of veterinarian Grant Wyler and, unlike her brother, she’s never left the urge to leave the town. Her dreams are informed by her childhood spent visiting a dear uncle who taught her to make ice cream, and her dreams of having a successful ice cream shop where she can sell he...more

This may be my favorite Mariah Stewart book yet! This is her 3rd book in her Chesapeake Diaries series and it was FANTASTIC! Very romantic compared to the first two. There were definitely a lot of sparks flying in this book, filled with Steffie and Wade's stories. Once again, Mariah Stewart brought her amazing writing power to her fans.

Steffie wanted nothing more in life than to make and serve her ice cream, and of course fall in love with Dallas' little brother Wade MacGregor. And she did just...more

Steffie Wyler, owner of the very popular ice cream parlor, One Scoop or Two, is living her dream - well, almost. Since she was little she had three goals in life: make ice cream every day, marry the coolest guy in town and live happily ever after. It's the "marry the coolest guy in town" that has eluded her but now that her high school crush, Wade McGregor, is back in town maybe, just maybe that goal is reachable.

In town for a wedding, Wade renews his acquaintance with Steffie getting her all s...more

The synopsis of this novel is perfect! It gives just enough information about the book without revealing the contents. This book has plenty of story lines to offer. I was pleasantly surprised with the number of characters and storylines going on around the main romance. Though the novel was fairly predictable, it was still enjoyable to read. I found myself drawn to the town, its people and their peculiarities.

The characters of Almos...more

The 3rd in the Chesapeake Diaries Series (this was the first one I read as going back to read the others). A quaint seaside town of St Dennis out of Maryland-- the setting for the series within a small town with a number of business owners, based around an older woman named Grace who works at the newspaper who occasionally summarizes the gossip and events in the town. Main character is Steffie who wants to marry a guy from high school who moved away, buy a house, and open an ice cream shop. She...more

This is the 3rd book in the Chesapeake Diaries series about the people who live in St Denis, a small, charming town on the Chesapeake Bay. Each book focuses on a different person although all the characters weave in & out all the books. Although I enjoyed this book, it was my least favorite of the three I have read.

This book is about Steffie, who owns a popular ice cream shop. It tracks mostly her relationship with Wade, a friend of her older brother and someone she has dreamed about since s...more

This is one of those cozy reads about family and home and making the decision to finally settle down. The town, St. Dennis on the Chesapeake Bay, is adorable and filled with seemingly successful shops and surrounding farms and the peple who inhabit it have stories to tell for generations. I think what I really liked here, though, was learning about the making of ice cream! Every time our heroine, Steffie, went in to her kitchen to concoct a new flavor, I was hooked. Her high school crush Wade is...more

Homemade ice cream served up with a smile in a quiet little town where stars come to play—Chesapeake Bay delivers a cast of characters as closely intertwined as the stitches on a handmade quilt. Spiced up with a little suspense revolving primarily around Austin, this story keeps from being overly sweet while staying heartwarming. Although a bit of the plot, mostly about the character Hugh (who seemed very nice for a bad guy), was somewhat sugary and almost seemed added after the fact, it doesn’t...more

I ask myself over and over and over why I read this series. It's not that great, the characters aren't built up properly and the main character seems to be the town and not the mains. The sex scenes are flash forwarded and washed over (and sometimes a bit boring) and there is always some cockamamie mystery that gets solved in about five seconds.

But damnit there is something about the relationships and the inter-personal connections these folks have that keep sucking me in. These are perfect beac...more

This is the third book in the Chesapeake Diaries series and I want to say the best one yet. Of course, that's because it's the last one I read, and still fresh with me. Since book one I loved Steffie Wyler and was so glad that she finally got her happy ever after. Her and Wade MacGregor are perfect for each other, add a little boy named Austin and you have a family. If you like books that are more about the characters then shock value, then this is the book for you. I do have to say that this bo...more

3.5 stars.

I loved the first book in this series. Liked the second one a lot. This one was a solid "like".

Certainly, I enjoyed returning to St. Dennis and all the characters from the previous books. I liked Steffie in her previous appearances, and had been looking forward to getting to know her better.

Part of the problem was that I didn't feel like I had a deeper understanding of her character by the end of the book. Sure, she was fun to hang out with, and I really enjoyed the look into the work...more

Started this at 11pm on a Saturday night. finished it at around 3am.

Steffie Wyler is an ice-cream maker extraordinaire. She has always lived in St Dennis and she has no real desire to move anywhere else. She has a successful ice cream business called One Scoop or Two that is right on the waterfront, she is constantly coming up with new, divine sounding flavours. Really, her life is exactly what she imagined it would be when she was growing up, except for the bit where she thought she would be ma...more

Although I love Stewart's writing, there was one thing that bothered me about this book. I kept wishing that Steffie would just tell Wade to shove off. But she didn't, and Stewart handled the why very well. And Wade was a sympathetic character.

This new series has made me go back and reread some of her older books, some I loved so much, like Devlin's Light. A softer, gentler Stewart, but equally as riveting as the intense books she wrote that I <3 so very much.

"Almost Home" is the third installment of Mariah Stewart's Chesapeake Diaries. This is Steffie Wyler's love story. Steffie is the sister of the hero of book #2. She runs Scoop, the ice cream shop in St. Dennis, Maryland and she has been in love with Wade MacGregor, brother of Dallas (from book #2) and great nephew of Berry, for most of her life. Steffie is still trying to recover from her last encounter with Wade, when he returns to town with a surprise, a small toddler named Austin. I really li...more

I've read every book in this series so far, and was so excited to find that Mariah add yet another story to this series. This book was just as good, if not better then all the others that I have read from this author. I love when I can pick up a book and delve in, without having to learn about a bunch of new characters every time. To me, it's like going home to visit with family and friends again.
Jess
Of all the books in this series so far, Steffie and Wade have had the most chemistry. I liked the mystery of Wade's past - another reviewer likened the book to part of a TV serial, and I agree. You get to spend time with a wide variety of characters and there are a bunch of different plot lines going on at once. I could still do without Grace's diary, as it only reviews what we've already read, but the series itself is growing on me.
Cindy
I just love stories that continue from book to book. Mariah Stewart is doing faboulusly and each book is about a different character that was in a previous book and she keeps you up to date with what is going on with everyone else. some times I just wait till I have a number of books in a series and can read them one by one. Then I do not have to remember what is going one.

This is Third and final book of the series and probably the best of the three. All three books are about living in a small town that is revitalizing and the life is the way many of us would like it to be....neighbors helping each other and depending on one another.... Citizens supporting new and growing businesses... And love in the bay area!

I expected this to be a two-star, but it was really more 1.5 on account of my possibly having lost a couple of brain cells. I was going to give bonus points for lack of smut, but then I hit the smut chapter. At least it was very short. I skimmed the rest of the book.

As my husband would say, "You knew it was on fire when you lay down on it."

This book was just "meh" for me. It was pretty boring and very, very predictable. It was straightforward and bland. I never really felt connected with Stef's character, either. Overall, a fast read and okay for a "beach" read. I probably won't read any more of the series; but then again, I'm not a big Romance novel fan to begin with.
Cheryl
It took me a long time to finally get to read this, like maybe a year or two, but it was interesting that I was able to pick up where I had read last about St Dennis. The mystery surrounding Berry is finally revealed. At times I wanted to skim the diary parts, it was like to much info, but overall I liked this story.

Eh. The narrator was awful, which really coloured my view of the book. (Sorry, author lady.) The story was also pretty mediocre. Not his baby! But he can't tell anyone about it! Because of the shame of the dead lady! Who gave him her kid even though hey maybe they should look at the legality or something!

I enjoyed books 1 and 2 of this series. I already read 100 pages on the ride to/from Busch Gardens today. This was a good book, the Oujia board parts were hokey though. The ice cream flavors sounded delicious and the organic beer making sounds yummy.
Rebekah
Totally romanticized small town east coast ice cream shop. Oh, and ouija. Kind of a lot going on but an ice cream fucker at the heart, which is what counts. I'm probably going to look for the next one in the series.
Deborah
Absolutely LOVED this third in the Chesapeake Diaries series. The interaction between the characters, back story, conflicts....it all worked so smoothly. Now, I can hardly to hear word of the next in this series!

This book definitely made me hungry for ice cream! It was a really great story and I enjoyed the twists and turns involving the main characters. I also liked the dramatic twist near the end of the book.
Christine
This book was good if you've read the others in the series. I really think you need to read the others (particularly the one prior) to appreciate the secrets that are revealed in this story.
Dianna
A solid 4 stars. I don't know if they are getting better or if I am just getting more attached to the characters and the fictional town of St. Dennis.
