At once personal and public, the poems in Salty as a Lip are "as playful as love notes," according to the poet James Ragan. Throughout the book, Mashak grapples with difficult questions using wordplay and a lighthearted tone that belies his sincerity. Much of Mashak's work catches the reader off guard with sudden, serious ramifications.

Ordered this book from the publisher, Haggard and Halloo. I didn't know what to expect, but I was riveted from the first page to the last. I read it in one sitting and in one location. It is so strange and compelling that when I looked up after about an hour, I forgot where I was. A reader might look at the form of these poems and feel familiar and comfortable. Five stars is a rather insufficient rating, I think.
I use the word love to describe how I feel about Feta, so that word is insufficient as well.
Mr. Mashak's genius oozes from each poem.
This fine collection, moves me, saddens, me, angers me, perplexes me and makes me laugh deep down in my belly!!
I'm patiently waiting for whatever Jason publishes next. Did I mention red is my favorite color?

BEST collection of poetry I have read so far this year...Jason Mashak's "salty as a lip"...he is an understated genius with such a delicate sense of clever balance in his words, carefully chosen, handily wrought...I was reading it in a park and it started raining, but I didn't move, I didn't want to stop...by all means, get it.

Jason Mashak's work is both humorous and thought provoking. This is a dangerous combination when used correctly, and Jason does not fail to use it correctly in this collection. All in all, Salty as a Lip is the work of a beautiful cynic. I will be sure to buy a copy of the second pressing as well, as I understand it will be filled with even more Mashak. The world needs a little more Mashak, I think.

A strong collection of poems. Every line provides you with deep, thought-provoking sentiment and powerful descriptive imagery. Highly recommended.
