Ok. Let me begin with the negative stuff because I really want to be done with it asap and then go on about how amazing this book was.

We get such an awesome plot and characters, would it be too much to ask for some consistency in the world building too? At first, vampires needed an invitation to enter the Glass House. I get that. Then, the humans needed an invitation instead. I get that too. Now everybody’s strolling in and out like nobody’s business and it’s driving me nuts!

This is the 4th book in a YA series written by Rachel Caine (she does the Weather Warden series as well).

This book has the same romantic tension between Claire and Shane- along with some sinister events happening in the town of Morganville.

Morganville is a town where vampires live freely among humans- with humans being kept (for lack of a better word) by various vampires. Some are good, most are bad, and all the humans are doing is trying to survive!

"Will you swear?" And Myrnin said, shockingly "I will." And he proceeded to, a string of swear words that made Claire blink. He ended with, '-frothy fool-born apple-john! Cheater of vandals and defiler of dead dogs!" and did another twirl and a bow.

Well Feast of Fools, definitely isn't a filler book. Although slow in the middle, it was probably the best one yet! Do these just keep getting better? Hmm...interesting.

I loved every minute of this one. I think it's safe to say I love Myrnin more now,...more "Will you swear?" And Myrnin said, shockingly "I will." I loved every minute of this one. I think it's safe to say I love Myrnin more now, and I know my love for him is going to keep growing. He's so incredibly scary, but fascinating, I think he's one of the most intriguing characters in this series so far.

Rachel Caine just keeps it coming. It's all constant, doesn't lack action; and is just incredible. Rachel Caine, manages to keep the back story up at the start of the book if people decide to just join in in the middle (not that you would), or if you need a refresher of after an MV break. So it doesn't lack information. She manages to make twists and turns through out, shocks, and cries. Swoons, and loves. Feast of Fools has it all, even a mega cliffhanger!

As I said at the beginning, this book isn't a filler. It's a continuance of an epically good vampire series, and one I've needed to read for a while now. I'm so glad that I am. I just want more and more.

All my favourite characters return, and some of the non so favourite characters, but that's what makes the story great. The one big thing I loved about this book was the way every Morganville vampire came together in their time of need to try and overthrow Master Bishop (unsuccessfully I might add). Vampire nemesis like Amelie and Oliver come together for the sake of the town, and I love the strength that Caine showed us in this book. Bringing everyone together for the sake of the town and it's residents.

Anyway, this book was great. That cliffy at the end was a killer! But, luckily for me, I had Lord of Misrule right at my side and ready to begin. And I've begun and I can't wait to get more, and more, and more! Because there are, more, and more!

Feast of Fools is the fourth installment of the Morganville Vampire Series, and it was a bit slower placed than the first three books. However, it did deliver an explosive ending with a signature series cliffhanger. I’ve become vested in the main characters of this series, which includes Claire, Shane, Eve and Michael. I like how their actions and loyalty toward each other remains consistent from book to book, and it was nice to see Shane begin to accept Michael as a vampire.

Rachel Caine has done it again. She starts FEAST OF FOOLS like she does the other books in the Morgenville Vampire series - right in the middle of the action which grabs you by the hair, yanks you in, and won’t let go until the story is over.

At the end of MIDNIGHT ALLEY, the foursome living in the Glass House gets some unexpected visitors in the form of Claire’s parents and (in Buffy the Vampire Slayer Speak) the Big Bad - Mr. Bishop A.K.A. Amelie’s “father.” With him in town there has to be trouble a-brewin’.

On top of the trouble that is inevitably on the way, Claire has to deal with the stress of her parents being in town. She is, of course, worried about their safety, but also has to convince them that she isn’t going to move in with them - that she is perfectly capable of staying at the Glass House. Claire’s duties to Amelie are still a high priority which requires that she continues her work with Myrnin while at the same time making it to all of her classes during the day.

The Big Event (where everything hits the fan) takes place during an invitation only masquerade feast. Claire manages to get herself an invitation and is front row center when everything comes to a head. Mr. Bishop is in Morganville for one reason and if he doesn’t get what he wants he will declare war on those that oppose him. Battlelines are drawn, people are in danger. You’ll never believe how this one ends.

Rachel Caine is an amazing writer. She writes so vividly that you can picture everything that is happening in your head like a movie. As crazy as it sounds, I feel like I know the characters from the book and I love the developing relationships between Claire and Shane / Eve and Michael. The one drawback to the series is they are definately NOT stand-alone novels. If you picked up FEAST OF FOOLS without having read the other three in the series I think you’d be lost. So, take my word for it. If you haven’t read GLASS HOUSES, THE DEAD GIRL’S DANCE, and MIDNIGHT ALLEY go do it right now! You won’t regret it.

As these books continue, I find I am less and less concerned with what will happen to Morganville and its' inhabitants and more concerned with when Shane is going to break and finally "do" Claire. Not that I condone that sort of thing, but it's a book and seriously, there is only so much tension you can build in a book before it starts to get repetitive. This gathering is not an innocent ball. It is a machination from Bishop and his people to have Morganville in his control. Clare is not invited and decides to go with Myrnin in her effort to trying to keep her friends safe. Once the feast begins, the almost nonexistent safety in Morganville vanishes and who knows if their fragile pseudo-safety could be recovered ever again.

I find Feast of Fools more active than the third chapter on the series. In Midnight Alley a strange character arrives, the same individual who will cause mayhem in Morganville during Feast of Fools. Clare as always tries to save everybody but things get complicated for her. Too many people to save for a sixteen year old. But as always, Clare uses her resourcefulness to respond to the situations at hand.

The characters in Feast of Fools:
You can see Michael is changing. His vampire side is taking over little by little. I think this is an inevitable change for him. The question is if he is capable to control himself. Shane is accepting Michael. Also, he keeps dutifully playing videogames. Eve is the character I simply tolerate for the sake of the story. I find her obnoxious.

This book has the best ending so far in the series. I really like how the story was developed. The story kept my with constant interest. The last pages are incredibly chaotic for Morganville and suddenly the story gained momentum. Wanted to keep reading but the pages ended. I can't wait to read the next book and see what happens next in Morganville.

The series is getting better and the plot more solid. This book is the best so far; it's rather fast paced, and chilling as you keep anticipating what may happen next. Caine's writing though needs improvement. Its gets long winded in some parts and sometimes a sudden break that I need to go back and read what was actually happening earlier. It needs better flow.

I can relate with Claire mostly like how she is open minded and accepts people as they are, tries to see the good in them though there's some innocence that may cause her to foresee many important hints. There is more bonding between Shane and Claire. I liked their cute date. Their relationship is not intense and full blown as I would have loved but more like slow simmering which is sweet; a real world sort of love. One thing found odd is when Claire didn't apologize when she accidentally hit Shane in his wound, that's one of the few inconsistencies in her characterization and parts of the plot like Jason's attack on Shane. Caine need to take care of these. I am happy that Shane's more accepting of Michael especially when they are witnessing more of his vampire side. Its also interesting how the author distinguishes between Michael and his vampirism as he struggles with it and is forced to accept it. We also got to see a different side of Oliver which makes him more intriguing and mysterious. Myrnin is truly a gem to this book, there isn't a character as complex and spellbinding as him. The scenes with him truly humorous. Bishop really is a fitting protagonist, he actually makes Oiver look like a good guy. This is a must read if you oversee the few issue stated.

Don't get me wrong, there were a few cute moments between Shane and Claire, they just weren't a main focus. No, this book was more about Myrnin and the vamp illness that's sweeping Morganville.

Speaking of Myrnin, I just want to say that I can't get enough of him. He's probably the most intriguing character I've ever had the pleasure of reading about - even my second time round. We have a few new characters in this book - ones that we met right at the very end of Midnight Alley. I have to say that I think it's ironic that the big, bad vamp's name is Bishop. It makes me chuckle every time I think about it. We didn't really see a lot of him in this book - not in person, anyway. He was kind of in the background, but you knew that everything that happened stemmed from him. It was a powerful way of writing and I applaud Caine for pulling it off.

I think the best part of this book comes right at the end during and after the party. Throughout the first three books in this series, we've been told that the vamps are the enemy, but the way the vampires and humans came together against Bishop was absolutely fantastic. I suppose it all boils down to that old proverb - the enemy of your enemy is your friend. Looks like the vamps and humans have found some Common Grounds...

Okay, that was a bad pun, but you know you laughed.

This story starts out when Claire and her housemates are “taken hostage” by Mr. Bishop and his two associates. They want them to cook them breakfast. What Mr. Bishop really wants is to talk to his daughter, Amelie. Claire tries to get ahold of her, but eventually called on a “friend” Oliver to get ahold of Amelie for them before disastrous things happen.

Questo quarto libro ci presenta delle svolte interessanti. Con la comparsa di Bishop, i nostri 4 abitanti di Glass House, capiscono che il peggio deve ancora venire e uniscono le loro forze e quelle di alcuni potenti vampiri di Morganville, tra cui Amelie e Oliver, per lottare contro Bishop e proteggere la città. Non manca la buona dose di parte romance, la storia di Claire e Shane continua e nonostante Ysandre voglia mettere le grinfie sull’affascinante Shane utilizzando il suo potere di vampira, i due ragazzi saranno sempre più uniti. Prosegue tra alti e bassi anche la relazione tra Eve e Michael, lui riesce a scatenare la gelosia e la furia della ragazza decidendo di portare un’altra alla famosa festa… ma Eve non sa che è per un buon motivo.
Un personaggio decisamente interessante già conosciuto nel libro precedente è Myrnin, antico vampiro e scienziato alchimista definito anche “vampiro pazzo”, con il quale Claire sta lavorando per cercare di trovare una cura alla malattia che colpisce i vampiri di Morganville.
Nel finale del libro si scopre qualcosa che lo riguarda direttamente e come per i capitoli precedenti della saga, il finale è decisamente ricco di suspance.

Nonostante sia uno YA secondo me potrebbe essere facilmente apprezzato da tutti. Ho trovato il libro molto piacevole e scorrevole, la scrittura della Caine non è mai lenta o noiosa ma sempre ricca di colpi di scena. Ogni libro di questa serie è una ventata fresca di novità e non si può che attendere con ansia il prossimo capitolo!(less)

There are events. Claire spends a long time worrying about the big bad vampires, worrying about her dad, worrying about Shane, worrying about Myrnin in his cage, worrying about, well just about everything. But nothing actually happens. No plot moves forwards, nothing is advanced. There are events – but even less of them than there were in the last book. Claire goes to university, Claire drinks coffee. Claire's relationship with Shane continues (without developing), Claire keeps studying the vampire disease, Eve's brother Jason hangs around and is creepy. Eve's father dies and they go to the funeral. Shane and Claire go to the blood bank and give blood. Michael plays the guitar at Common Grounds and is good at it

I hate to present a long paragraph with just random bitten out events but that's pretty much the book.. Even in Midnight Alley there were more events to reference, but not here. I wouldn't mind if the events were good for foreshadowing or character development or world building, but even then there were too many of them without plot scenes interspaced - but most of them don't seem to add anything. They feel like filler scenes - and most of the book is like that. Worse, all of the foreshadowing of the Big Bad is told and told and told and told and never shown, it's vexing.

And it continues like this until we get to nearly 90% - and that is when the bad guys make their move, there is a great big showdown and the powerful, dramatic aftermath and hints of a long time campaign to come. Bishop makes his move, Amelie responds and fights back, lines are drawn, humans and vampires come together it looks like a rocking battle and a truly great story will begin here, filled with tension and reluctant alliances and fights for the whole town... except it started at 90%. It's really sad because she could have put this at the beginning of the book and gone on from there and actually had a fascinating plot. At least I have some hope for the next book.

Claire really has to set her naivety aside and use that genius brain of hers to help save Morganville, both vampire and human alike. Eve, Michael, Shane and Claire have constantly demonstrated their loyalty to one another, but Claire is giving them all a lesson in loyalty to humanity. I love, love, LOVE Sam Glass and I have since his introduction earlier in the series. His humanity didn't disappear with his mortality when he was turned into a vampire. Also, he's Michael's grandfather, and look how great Michael is! It's hard not to love either of the Glass boys.

Eve is always herself. I love her gothy-punk attitude and her blooming romance with Michael. She never thought they'd ever be together and now, here it was happening. This is a similar situation to the one Claire has with Shane, and yet they were together too, albeit they didn't have the history that Eve and Michael did. But everything was perfect. Except that, this is Morganville and it's run by vampires and now there's an even more evil vampire trying to take over. And Michael was taking Monica Morrell to Bishop's welcome feast and he didn't even tell Eve. And Shane was invited by Bishop's evil sidekick, Ysandre, and he was required to go. Which, of course, Claire hated, but maybe, possibly, not as much as Shane hated it.

Claire wanted to be invited too. Eve decided she'd go with Oliver, so now Claire was the only one missing out. But was she? And would her status stand as "missing out" for long? Plus, Claire's parents have moved to Morganville and Claire is really beginning to panic. Bishop has planted the thought in their mind that Claire should leave the Glass House and move into their home, but she doesn't want to go. How long can she stall for? And how long will it take before her parents learn that there's something more important happening in town than Claire living off-campus, with roommates that include two hot boys?

As the big Masquerade Ball approaches, crap is really about to hit the fan. Myrnin, in an "am-I-manic-or-am-I-not" state that Claire can't decipher, feels "well" enough to attend the ball, and says that they must, because Amelie needs their help. Seeing as how they're probably the two smartest Morganville residents, they're probably right.

At the feast, the battle lines are drawn, and those who don't swear their fealty to Bishop might as well have declared war against him. Rachel Caine is the queen of the cliffhangers. I feel like every novel in this series ends with a cliffhanger. Instead of the conflict being resolved nicely, it is almost as if we're left in the middle of the book. It's impossible to stop reading this series because you never feel satisfied by the ending...you're always left wanting to know what happens next. How the heck did I get sucked into the Morganville Vampires?? This is teenage, brainless vampire smut at it's finest. Seriously! I'll tell you how it happened to me.

It was such a mindless easy read...I flew through the the first book in a day. I must give credit to the author, Ms. Caine. She lead me into a clever trap at the endings of the first few books. So, for some reason I keep reading the next book in the series, even though I havent been remotely satisfied since the beginning. Each book, so far, has been anti-climatic, lacking direction with vague plot lines. The characters are undeveloped and one-dimensional. I find Claire's parents to be extremely annoying. They are all about "protecting" their daughter, but all I have seen from them is judgmental opinionatedness. Apparently they just do not trust her, which I find to be completely ridiculous considering her briliance and strength. She has shown more maturity and strength than any of the other characters in the book, and just because there are "boys" in the house her parents think it's a horrible situation. Perhaps they should wake up to the situation now that they are wrapped up into the Morganville mess and realize just who their daughter is, and understand she is responsible enough to make her own decisions.

The relationships between Claire and her roommates is much less strained in this book. Shane seems to finally be accepting Micheal's new status as a vampire. The relationship between Micheal and Eve is really starting to heat up and its good to see both of them have some levity. Claire and Shane's relationship just keeps getting stronger and they somehow have still been able to keep it mostly clean considering Claire's age. I just keep waiting for either one of them to spontaneously combust. Not much time has passed in the books, so there still is a long time until she turns 18. I'm impressed at Shane's determination, and it should be interesting to see if it holds steady.

I enjoyed this book and it was an incredibly fast read. I started and then what felt like just a few minutes later, it ended. There actually was a little less action in this book, but it flowed so well, that I didn't miss the extra action at all. Of course the book ended on a cliffhanger, and this one sure is a doozy. Things are drastically changing in Morganville, and it will be very interesting to see how things turn out in the next book. It looks like Claire and her friend's troubles have only just begun, and I am eager to continue their story.

Wow I seem to be giving out Maura's Choice a lot. That's sort of funny, but really I haven't read any books so far that I haven't enjoy thoroughly. But if I have to give a 4 stars to any books in the Morganville Vampire Series, it would have to be Feast of Fools. I should also mention that Books 3 and 4 give really good accountings of what happened in previous volumes. Oh Book 4. Usually, by now, I am a little sick of a book series (or heck even a tv series that's reached season 4). Creators will introduce new characters, kill off old characters, put the main character in so much of the same old situations that its like 'X did this just like Y did! Yet the MC fell for it again!' and repetition is not the better part of valor in books. Caine however seems to have found a niche to work well for her. By not having the books cover a large amount of time, and having each subsequent book pick up as if its just the next page in the same story, it feels less like I'm reading Book 4 and more like I'm reading chapter whatever of Book 1.

Mr. Bishop, introduced at the end of Book 3 when Claire's parents made an unfortunately timed move to Morganville (its implied heavily that Amelie had a hand in that, which has disasterous ramifications for her timing abilities if you ask me). I want to feel bad for her parents, but honestly I don't. Up until closer to the end they are really just extreme stereotypes of the overprotective parent. I'll admit they at least admitted the truth quicker then Claire did.

Mrynin continues to delight. I like him so much more then any of the other 'older' vampires. Half-crazy or not he's a wonderfully fun guy to read about. Amelie's shell cracks even further with Bishop's arrival and the implications of that (patricide is never a good idea kids). Oliver isn't actually that bad honestly, but he's still such an oily weasel I have trouble picturing him as helpful.

Romance wise Shane and Claire are dealt a low blow--one of the vamps Bishop brought with him, Yasdere (I think that's how you spell it, my sister has my copy at the moment), has an instant attraction to Shane. She makes it clear that she wants him, he'd better get used to it or she'd make everyone he knows pay for his refusal. Claire is, irrational as it is, jealous of the fact that the vamp chick can mystically FORCE Shane to want her. Eve and Michael are also dealt a blow, but its less of a blow and more of a misunderstanding.

Let me put it this way, the title can be taken one of two ways I think. Once the true purpose of the Feast that Amelie gives for Bishop is known it makes those participating (vampire and human alike) seem like 'fools' because everyone underestimates everyone else and their motivations. If you take it from a historical perspective, the Feast of Fools was a religious holiday celebrated in Medieval times "in which power, dignity or impunity is conferred for a few hours upon those ordinarily in a subordinate position" (source: Catholic Enclyclopedia). Ignoring the religious aspects of it (it has been deemed blasphemous), basically it was a celebration that gave leave to subordinates to act how they pleased towards their superiors without reprecussions. Take that as you will after reading the book.(less)

With the way this book started out I didn't think if could end with a cliff hanger that was worse, but it did. With the new vistors in town you just know things are going to go to hell in a hand basket fast, and that is just what happened.

It is funny how when a bigger enemy comes to town those that were emenies band together. It was interesting to see this happen, especially to see the humans and vamps come together as a team.

I really enjoy anything that Rachel Caine writes. All of her characters have an interesting past, and the development of them has been great over the course of four books. I think Claire is finally learning when she needs to back off, and let other people take care of things; especially with the addition of her parents in Morganville, because one wrong move could put them on the chopping block.

Claire and Shane's relationship is growing, and they both want to take things to the next level. But Shane continues to be the good guy and stick to his guns (unfortunately for the reader). This only makes Shane more likeable in my opinion. He knows what he wants, but he knows that he can't have it...yet.

My favorite character is still Myrnin. The addition of him in Midnight Alley added a whole new level of intrigue to the story. With the new serum Claire has been working on to help him, and the other vampires, he's able to stay out of his cage for longer. This had me on edge because I was just waiting for him to attack Claire at any minute.
Monica is still as evil as ever! She is the biggest bully for a college gal. I wish she would get what was coming to her, because it seems that several near death experiences aren't cutting it! How many times does Claire have to save her before she leaves her alone? There is one scene that had me fuming. I felt so bad for Claire.

This series always ends on a cliff hanger, which I've gotten used to now that this is the fourth book. It's kind of nice because the story keeps continuing instead of jumping to a new problem/plot. It's like one long book if you piece them together. Feast of Fools was quick and enjoyable, and I look forward to reading the fifth in the series, Lord of Misrule. (less)

Neue Allianzen werden geschlossen und wer hätte schon gedacht Oliver und Amelie jemals im gleichen Team zu sehen. Da sind Probleme irgendwie vorprogrammiert. Ich hätte nie gedacht das ich Oliver mal sympathisch finden würde, aber er hat sich in diesem Band wirklich Mühe gegeben. Auch Myrnin ist diesmal wieder mit von der Partie und er und Claire geben ein super Team ab. In diesem Band kommen sie endlich dem Heilmittel auf die Spur, aber damit treten auch neue Hindernisse auf!!

Wenn ich nicht leiden konnte waren Bishops Anhängsel Ysandre und Francois. Besonders Ysandre die hinter Shane her ist und so eine erschreckend mächtige Gabe hat. Aber durch sie bekommen wir auch eine Menge niedlicher Shane/Claire Szenen. Natürlich dürfen auch die Michael/Eve Szenen nicht fehlen. Es gibt auch ein paar prickelnde Michael/Claire Szenen, wo ich so das Gefühle habe das die Beiden auch ein tolles Paar wären, sie haben einfach diese Chemie!!

Zuerst dachte ich Bishop will nur eins Amelie vernichtet und die Stadt unterwerfen, aber falsch gedacht er will etwas ganz anderes, aber das werd ich euch nicht verraten, lest selbst!! Sam kommt auch wieder vor, ich mag ihn so. Er tut mir sooo leid da er ja in Amelie verliebt ist, sie aber schon sooo lange lebt das es ihr nicht mehr wirklich etwas bedeutet. Jason ist auch wieder mal dabei und spielt sogar eine wichtige Rolle in Bishops Plan!!

Fazit: Spannend, blutig und witzig das ist "Feast of Fools". Es liest sich wie seine Vorgänger super flüssig und ist leicht verständlich. Die Handlung und die Figuren sind super aufeinander abgepasst und das sorgt dafür das das Buch nie langweilig wird!!(less)

Overall I liked the book but it isn't exactly my favorite in the series so far. Honestly the whole series is kinda going downhill, and this is only the fourth book! I hope it gets better.

Anyway the characters have serious issues. Claire clearly has no intrest in self-preservation, throwing herself into stupid, life threatening situations and then running to either Amelie or Richard or in some cases Oliver or some other poor vamp to get her out of it.
