Laurie (Bitten by Paranormal Romance)
Paranormal suspense author Cynthia Eden is a new voice to be reckoned with in romantic suspense world with her new Deadly suspense trilogy. Deadly Heat is an edge of your seat page-turner along with the added heat that will keep you fanning yourself. If you love mystery, romance, extreme action, and a hot agent that will do anything to protect his woman, then here is your series. It wouldn’t surprise me to find out Cynthia Eden makes the top of New York Times bestsellers list with this series.

I have come to identify with the fact that Cynthia Eden writes romances of the no holds barred kind which I just absolutely love. My first taste of Cynthia Eden came with book 1 in the Deadly series which just rocked my world in all the ways that counts. Deadly Heat turned out to be just as intense, maybe more so with the heat literally and figuratively on from both the romance and suspense side of the story.

Kenton Lake, Special Agent from the FBI’s Serial Services Division (SSD) makes his way t...more

“Like a moth to a flame” his attraction to fire is as intensely passionate as a lover’s kiss. So beautiful…so deadly. Enter the mind of a serial arsonist and a scorching hot love affair in Deadly Heat, the second installment of Cynthia Eden’s Deadly series.

Lora Spade is not your average woman. A seasoned firefighter who has lost too many loved ones to the deadly flames, she is now facing a serial arsonist in her hometown of Charlottesville, VA. The arsonist, labeled “Phoenix,” is a professional...more

The heat in this book is pretty intense both in the fires and with the characters. I really liked the way everything came together in this book. I was fascinated by the in depth point of view she gave of arsonists. The writer must have done a great deal of research about the pathology of arsonists because I learned a great deal from her book on the subject. Of course, I liked the main male character. I’d liked him from the first book, and he getting to know him better in this book was great. The...more

I don't understand all the hype about this author and this series. I didn't like the first book, Deadly Fear, but thought I'd give the series a chance and picked up Deadly Heat. Well, I was sorely disappointed and am officially done with this series. Here's what disgusted me:

1. Pissing matches.
The heroes in this series are part of an elite FBI team called the SSD. The SSD members, however, have never met a cop or fire fighter they didn't like for the crime. On nothing more than a hunch (and I us...more

I was actually able to read the first in this series,Deadly Fear, and I really enjoyed it. So I was expecting quite a bit from this one. I have to say I was not disappointed. Cynthia has an ability to really get into the head of a killer. And while her ability is sometimes a bit creepy, it makes for an awesome story!

I like that this story follows one of the characters from the first story. Although Kenton wasn't the main character in the first book he did play a part and so he was a "familiar f...more

Great story, great flow and great mystery. I enjoyed this one a lot. The characters are well-written and the story moved. It's not as dark and scary as Deadly Fear (which had me looking under the bed for monsters), but it's a great suspense nontheless.

My only issues were that Kenton seemed out of character sometimes. Hyde drills in them to trust only the team. Kenton repeats this and tells Lora he doesn't trust her, but he'll use her for his investigation. Then he has half the townfolk working t...more

Fast-paced and thrilling if you love suspense this it the book for you! Although this is part of the author’s Deadly series it can be easily read by itself.

Kenton Lake, a FBI special agent who finds himself in the awkward position of being saved by a woman. But Lora Spade is no ordinary woman, she is a firefighter. Kenton realizes this, and at the same time realizes that he is undeniably attracted to her. Unfortunately, an untime...more

DEADLY HEAT by Cynthia Eden
Book #2 in the Deadly Series
02/11 – Grand Central Publishing – Mass Market Paperback, 388 pages

This book will light up the night with romance and scary suspense

Kenton Lake is a very Special Agent with the FBI and he gave the orders and directed the crime scene. But when he collides with Firefighter Lora Spade the tables are turned and she is the one pulling him from the burning building with no respect for his authority or federal status. That was alright because she i...more

Featuring FBI Special Agent Kenton Lake and Firefigher Lora Spade, Deadly Heat deals with arsonist who use fires as means of justice to punish people "who deserve" it. Unfortunately, for me, I'm not truly sold with either the romance or the suspense. I think, it is mainly due to the imbalance of romance-suspense and the lack of appeal of the main characters.

I find Kenton Lake (who comes as carefree and fun in the first book) to be possessive, and he portrays his jealousy in act that I don't find...more

After reading the review's on this book I just had to read it so I put the book I was currently reading down and picked Deadly Heat up.
I must say that at the beginning of the story I thought that this was not going to be as good of a read as I thought it was going to be. The idea of a serial arsonist was just not grabbing me. By page 50 I had changed that thought completely and was totally drawn in by this story and the Characters.

I loved the heroine Lora Spade. She was a tough, no hold bars fir...more

Another exciting read by Cynthia Eden. The second book from the Deadly Trilogy was a suspenseful as the first one. This one involved Kenton Lake, one of the SSD Agents and Lora Spade, a firefighter. Kenton and Lora had such great chemistry from the beginning. Both are strong characters and a perfect match for each other. We already know Kenton, and when we meet Lora, we realize she’s not just someone who always needs help or rescuing, she’s strong, and stubborn and a perfect fit. Being a firefig...more

The SSD is at it again! Kenton Lake has been sent to Charlottesville, VA to investigate a possible serial arsonist. When he arrives to meet with an informant he finds the meeting spot on fire. He runs in with the hope of saving the life of a man who might have answers he needs, but instead finds himself getting a fist to the face. Much to his surprise the person behind the fist is sexy female firefighter, Lora Spade. Lora and Kenton will have to work together to bring the crazy person behind the...more

This was a fabulous read! Female firefighter Lora Spade, teamed with Special Agent Kenton Lake, races to find a serial arsonist preying on citizens of Lora's home town. Fast paced and incredibly well researched, DEADLY HEAT is an on-the-edge-of-your-seat suspense story with plenty of twists and turns in the killer's psyche. The only thing hotter than the fires Lora fights is the attraction that develops between Lora and Special Agent Lake as the team works to discover the pyro's identity before...more

I knew it, I had a feeling who the killer was. The thing I like with this series so far is that the killers are not completely predictable because they come across so many suspects, it's up to you and your gut instinct to find out who you think it is.

I've found that the writing of the sex scenes have improved so much since the first book, you can really see that and I congratulate the author on that. It makes me all the more excited to read the third book in this series.

Cynthia Eden has good plotlines, and I like the idea of the SSD detectives. She builds characters with intense backstories and puts them in messed-up situations and has them triumph, despite the fact that she doesn't always take them time to develop a relationship between her characters so much as there is instant lust and longing. But the cadence of her writing style is a turnoff in continuining what is otherwise a pretty good read - I actually stopped this one for a bit and then picked it up a...more

After I read "Deadly Fear" I couldn't wait to read "Deadly Heat." So lets just say I was not disappointed. Ms Eden definitely knows what she is doing with romantic suspense. The book is about a special agent named Kenton and a firefighter named Lora. Kenton is called into Lora's town to investigate a series of deadly fires that Lora has been working. She expects that the fires are part of a serial killers game, a game that killed her lover 6 months ago. Lora is furious and wants revenge and she...more

I must admit I was originally hesistant about this series- I wanted the author to just stick with the shifter writing. *smile* But boy am I glad I gave it a try!! Totally enjoyed this book and loved the way the story flowed. It grabbed me from the beginning and never let go. I read the first one and really liked the main characters in that book. This one was even better. The first book was darker and not for the mild at heart yet still good. This one was not so dark but the suspense was even bet...more

I was able to review Cynthia's first book in this series Deadly Fear (See My Reivew) so I was so pleased to be able to review her next two books in this series. Today's review is on Deadly Heat Book #2 in the Deadly Series and I will be posting a review on Deadly Lies on the 4th.

I hadn't read anything from Cynthia before reading Deadly Fear and after reading that book I was hooked I was hopping she continued the same wonderful writing in her next book and I wasn't disappointed at all. Deadly He...more

Award-winning author Cynthia Eden writes paranormal romances and romantic suspense novels. She is currently very busy writing her stories for Grand Central Publishing and Kensington Brava. She has always wanted to write, and particularly enjoys creating stories about monsters, vampires, werewolves, and even the real-life monsters that populate her romantic suspense stories. Staying true to form to all things Cynthia Eden, I loved this book. Deadly Heat gave me exactly what I was looking for. An escape from reality. A chance to enter into the world of firefighters, elite FBI agents and a killer with an agenda all his own.

Lora is a female firefighter. One of only two at her station. Being a female in a predominately man workforce is difficult but she isn’t your typical female. She is completely, 100% kick ass with a side of TAKE THAT! Lora takes shit from no one. Her...more

Loving this series so very much! I can't decide if I liked this one or the first one better. The whole SSD team rocks my socks, and I hope they all get stories. It was so nice to visit with Monica and Luke again, to see their relationship progress a little further. This is one of the main reasons I love to read series books.

Kenton and Lora were a fiery hot couple who had an instant connection. It's funny how you can recognize someone who has shared a similar past to you. I loved Lora's brothers,...more

I don't understand the hype for this series at all. I was completely unimpressed by the first one and because I'm an obsessive glutton for punishment, I pushed on to try to complete the series. There is more romance in this book versus the first, but nothing special. The sex scenes were completely dry, and unfortunately the author didn't accomplish her purpose as a romance writer at all: I felt totally uninspired by the love story between the hero and heroine, didn't feel them at all. The suspen...more

I won this book through Goodreads' First Reads.

Firefighter Lora Spade is looking for justice. Six months ago her co-worker, and lover, was killed in an arsonist's fire. In an effort to get help, she calls in the SSD, Serial Services Division. What she expected was help to find a killer, not to be attracted to the handsome agent sent to investigate. Kenton Lake, normally the ultimate professional, can't get Lora off his mind. Together they search for a killer who's obsession with fire is getting...more

Soooo good! I am loving this Deadly series. I didn’t think Deadly Fear could be outdone, but Deadly Heat was smokin! These books have all the ingredients for a terrific romantic suspense series.
Sizzling chemistry between the two main characters, in this book it was Kenton and Lora.
The plot has to have lots action, a really insane villain, and keep you on edge. I thought I knew who the bad guy was, but then again…maybe not. The last few pages of this book had me wringing my hands.

This was a great book! It seriously had me on the edge of my seat the whole time, it was like watching an episode of Criminal Minds or something, lol! This is the 2nd book in the "Deadly" series, I accidentally bought books 2 and 3 because book 1 wasn't there, so how was I to know? LOL! I was going to start book 3 because these are decent enough to be stand alone, even though there are clues as to what happened in book one; however, I see that book 3 is about the main character in book 1 so I gu...more

Deadly Heat is the second book in Cynthia Eden's romantic suspense series. It's fast paced, sexy and full of action from start to finish. Lora is a dedicated firefighter that has seen her share of loss, and works to make sure no one else dies if she can help it. When she calls in help to deal with a serial arsonist, she doesn't expect Kenton Lake, a smart, aggressive and sexy agent from a special division. Two strong people who've put emotional walls up to protect themselves from more loss and h...more

I really like the story and the sex was amazing! I’m going to sound like such a hypocrite, but there was almost too much sex. Or maybe it’s because the romance wasn’t believable… at first. I think what irked me was that Lora and Kenton didn’t know each other and are willing to jump in the sack together from the moment they first met. And every time they were together, they were getting their freak on instead of trying to solve the case. Don’t get me wrong, I love the hard core, no strings attac...more

“I’ve been dying to know,” he said again, “how you taste.”
Oh, hell. Her right hand grabbed the back of his head, and she yanked him down toward her.
Their mouths met. Open. Ready. Lips kissed. Tongues licked. And—damn!
Yes, she wanted.
The control she’d held so tightly began to crack. She jerked in her seat, struggling to press against him. He took her mouth. Tasted her. Tormented her. And she met him. No, she fought him, fought him for more.”

“Then his hands were around her waist as he lifted her up. The muscles in his arms flexed as he held her.
Wow, didn’t realize the man was so strong, didn’t know—
She licked his throat.
Screw it.
Lora wrapped her legs around his waist. His cock pushed against her, pressing right at the wet entrance to her sex.
She arched toward him just as Kenton slammed deep.
So deep.
She bit her lip to hold back the scream.
Skin to skin. Hot. Slick. So full.”
