I have come to identify with the fact that Cynthia Eden writes romances of the no holds barred kind which I just absolutely love. Deadly Heat turned out to be just as intense, maybe more so with the heat literally and figuratively on from both the romance and suspense side of the story.

Kenton Lake, Special Agent from the FBI’s Serial Services Division (SSD) makes his way to Charlottesville where a serial arsonist is at work. From the first page itself, Cynthia lets the reader in on the mind of a vicious killer who starts out young, who has the ability to creep you out enough that you are practically sniffing around you just in case he turns up with a can of gasoline right next to you.

When Kenton collides with the fiery firefighter Lora Spade who just vibrates with an aura of energy that crackles whenever she is around, Kenton is as helplessly drawn towards her as she is to him. Lora who lost the one man she loved, the man who had been her best friend to the arsonist would love nothing more than to bring the villain to justice, which is the only reason why she agrees to help the sexier than sin agent from FBI; or so she tells herself.

From the first kiss itself that just heats up the pages, Kenton and Lora’s relationship and courting is an intense one, one that burns hotter and faster with each encounter. Lora might tell herself that sex is the only thing between herself and Kenton but deep in her heart she knows that the desire that burns between them is not just simply that but so very much more.

With the arsonist always one step ahead, taunting them with his ability to take lives and bring those whom he sees fit to “justice”, Cynthia Eden definitely delivers a punch with Deadly Heat, a book that is edgy, dark and scorching hot in all the ways that matter!

Recommended for fans of the series, fans of romantic suspense with a darker edge and of course fans of Cynthia Eden.

Cynthia Eden is a pro at delivering strong and intensely passionate characters as well as a calculating and sadistic killer who keeps you guessing his identity until the very end. This action-packed thriller had me questioning to what lengths this madman would go to fuel his destruction. The chemistry between Lora and Kenton is an equal driving force in the storyline. It is a raw, instant attraction of two strong personalities that is nothing short of magnetic. Lora radiates energy and strength and Kenton is blown away by her. As the reader, I love it when a hero becomes so flustered by a woman he does not know what to do with himself to the point of questioning his sanity. This sets up some extremely steamy moments once both give in to their attraction to each other. It also fuels Kenton’s alpha male instincts once Phoenix turns on Lora and makes her a personal target. Needless to say, with two bold characters there are bound to be tense moments, on the job and in the bedroom. This is a couple that can go from zero to sixty in one kiss and loose all self control which provided some scorching hot love scenes and had me needing a cold shower! I also love that Ms. Eden incorporates the characters from the prior book into the current storyline. Readers who enjoyed Luke and Monica from Deadly Fear will be happy to have more interaction with both as they assist in tracking the arsonist. We also get a glimpse of how their personal relationship has progressed which was a total win for me given Luke is all kinds of hot as well!

Anyone who enjoys romantic suspense that will take your blood past the boiling point must check out Deadly Heat. It is one intense flame that will keeping you sizzling until the next installment.

The heat in this book is pretty intense both in the fires and with the characters. I really liked the way everything came together in this book. I was fascinated by the in depth point of view she gave of arsonists. The writer must have done a great deal of research about the pathology of arsonists because I learned a great deal from her book on the subject. Of course, I liked the main male character. I don't understand all the hype about this author and this series. I didn't like the first book, Deadly Fear, but thought I'd give the series a chance and picked up Deadly Heat. Well, I was sorely disappointed and am officially done with this series. Here's what disgusted me:

1. Pissing matches.
The heroes in this series are part of an elite FBI team called the SSD. The SSD members, however, have never met a cop or fire fighter they didn't like for the crime. On nothing more than a hunch (and I us...more I don't understand all the hype about this author and this series. I didn't like the first book, Deadly Fear, but thought I'd give the series a chance and picked up Deadly Heat. Well, I was sorely disappointed and am officially done with this series. Here's what disgusted me:

1. Pissing matches.
The heroes in this series are part of an elite FBI team called the SSD. The SSD members, however, have never met a cop or fire fighter they didn't like for the crime. On nothing more than a hunch (and I use that word loosely), SSD decides to investigate the local firefighters and law enforcement (again). I understand that firefighters and police agencies are and should be investigated at times, but not on anything less than probable cause. Cynthia Eden, unfortunately, has never heard of probable cause and her SSD members couldn't find it with two hands and a flashlight. As the agency in charge, the SSD is well within its rights to pull rank (and often does), but in the real world their pissing-match approach is usually a sure-fire way to derail an investigation. Cynthia Eden just glosses over this fact and expects us to buy the crap the SSD is shoveling. Sorry, not me.

2. The ends do not justify the means.
I loathe authors whose characters cavalierly break the law in an effort to enforce it. It's simply a cop out and a sign, to me, that the author was lazy and/or ignorant. In Deadly Heat, Monica (aka queen-bitch-who-can-do-no-wrong) directs Sam to hack into hospital patient records spanning the past 25 years to look for burn victims. This outrageous fishing expedition is based on no more than Monica's belief that their perp has burn scars. There is nothing remotely heroic about (elite?) law enforcement officers who blatantly ignore constitutional provisions intended to protect civil liberties. And yet, Cynthia Eden expects the reader to root and cheer for these losers? I think not.

Bottom-line: Good guys should uphold the law not break it. These "good guys" fall way short of heroic. I won't be continuing this series.

I was actually able to read the first in this series,Deadly Fear, and I really enjoyed it. So I was expecting quite a bit from this one. I have to say I was not disappointed. Cynthia has an ability to really get into the head of a killer. And while her ability is sometimes a bit creepy, it makes for an awesome story!

Great story, great flow and great mystery. I enjoyed this one a lot. The characters are well-written and the story moved. It's not as dark and scary as Deadly Fear (which had me looking under the bed for monsters), but it's a great suspense nontheless.

Kenton Lake is a very Special Agent with the FBI and he gave the orders and directed the crime scene. But when he collides with Firefighter Lora Spade the tables are turned and she is the one pulling him from the burning building with no respect for his authority or federal status. That was alright because she is the one that called the FBI in because she is the only one who believes they have a serial arsonist at work here in her town of Charlottesville. Lora doesn’t let anyone mess with her people especially when one of the firefighters she loved had been a casualty of this crazy person.

The more time Kenton spends with Lora the more he sees the depth of her passion for the job and that is something they share along with an overwhelming desire to kiss her. This started from the moment he laid eyes on her and she feels the same way regardless of her denials. He moves in quick knowing she is going to run and when he does lock lips with her Lora surrenders to fears from the past and moves on to the future.

This is not an easy accomplishment since the arsonist known as the Phoenix keeps lighting up the night with fires that are designed to kill in a specific pattern but with no real consistency to his pattern which is unlike any other serial killer. This should be easy to solve but even when all the elite agents of the SSD Division of the FBI are called in no one can find the connection and there has to be a connection. They determine the profile but even after extensive interviews of potential suspects there is not one person that completely fits the description which allows this nightmare to go on.

With time running out and the Phoenix escalating his desire for destruction Lora and Kenton utilize every item at their disposal to find him and stop this. Before long they figure out what this crazy person is about and who in fact all this is targeted at which is even worse than either of them could imagine. Drawing them into his web of madness was the idea but can Kenton and Lora win the game when they are the ones with the targets on their back? But whatever happens at the end of this ordeal Kenton is determined to drive away the ghosts of the past that haunt Lora and be the man in her life today and for all the days that follow. They have both been lost and wandering around with ghosts of what happened before it is time to shed those and move on.

Lora and Kenton fight together from the beginning of this story and that is one of the many delights I discovered about this book. I don’t mind the wait for a couple to get together but when the attraction is this strong from page one it is nice to have the story built around them as a couple and dealing with everything united but still trying to work out the details of the relationship. Ms. Eden knows how to write a book that keeps you guessing and not know until the end who is up to what and she is also very good at scaring you during the process. I am anxious for book that comes next.(less)

After reading the review's on this book I just had to read it so I put the book I was currently reading down and picked Deadly Heat up.
I must say that at the beginning of the story I thought that this was not going to be as good of a read as I thought it was going to be. The idea of a serial arsonist was just not grabbing me. By page 50 I had changed that thought completely and was totally drawn in by this story and the Characters.

Another exciting read by Cynthia Eden. The second book from the Deadly Trilogy was a suspenseful as the first one. This one involved Kenton Lake, one of the SSD Agents and Lora Spade, a firefighter. I knew it, I had a feeling who the killer was. The thing I like with this series so far is that the killers are not completely predictable because they come across so many suspects, it's up to you and your gut instinct to find out who you think it is.

I've found that the writing of the sex scenes have improved so much since the first book, you can really see that and I congratulate the author on that. It makes me all the more excited to read the third book in this series.

She builds characters with intense backstories and puts them in messed-up situations and has them triumph, despite the fact that she doesn't always take them time to develop a relationship between her characters so much as there is instant lust and longing. I must admit I was originally hesistant about this series- I wanted the author to just stick with the shifter writing. *smile* But boy am I glad I gave it a try!! Totally enjoyed this book and loved the way the story flowed. It grabbed me from the beginning and never let go. I read the first one and really liked the main characters in that book. The only fault to find with the book was the primary and secondary characters use of stuttering in nervous or high-stress situations. After a bit, it lost its power for me.

I thought Deadly Fear was a get-in-your-head kind of story with the way the killer eliminated his victims. But this... Deadly Heat takes the cake. A guy who traps his victims and burns them alive has a special place in hell waiting for him, fiction or not. This killer and plot really gets to you, gets past that inner fear wall, and brings you down. I love romantic suspense's where the hero and heroine have a past also. It makes them more human, more real. The romance was as hot as the fire, just as it should be, and the secondary characters and setting added nicely to the story, enhancing the book. If you haven't read a Cynthia Eden book yet, you're truly missing out. Highly recommended.

Staying true to form to all things Cynthia Eden, I loved this book. Deadly Heat gave me exactly what I was looking for. An escape from reality. A chance to enter into the world of firefighters, elite FBI agents and a killer with an agenda all his own.

Deadly Heat is a book that is not to be missed! You won’t be able to put it down from the minute you crack it open. I promise. Cynthia has a way of drawing you in from the first sentence. Making her men hot and her females completely believable, vulnerable and strong. This was no exception. Deadly Heat is the second of a planned trilogy that centers around a special division of the FBI. They focus on serial criminals. In this case it’s a serial arsonist. Deadly Heat was like reading a better version of Backdraft. Yeah, you remember that movie, don’t lie. I’ve watched it myself on USA or TNT. Remember those flames? Licking up the walls and across the ceiling? Cynthia will make you feel their heat. Scorch your very soul with the rush of the blaze. The fire scenes will leave you wanting for nothing.

The interactions between Kenton and Lora are wrote with conviction and I found myself understanding Lora to a T. Her willingness to throw away her heart to shut off the pain of loss was wrenching . Kenton’s heart-felt attraction to her was extremely “awwww” worthy. His protective nature warring with his call of duty. How can you protect someone who runs INTO the fire?

This book includes a prologue at the beginning. I’m always up in the air whether or not I like those. I enjoyed the one in this book. It shed light onto the past of the serial arsonist. This one takes place when the arsonist was a mere child. Kind of makes you wonder if a killer isn’t born with the predisposition to kill. What makes children, with a seemingly good upbringing snap. Scary stuff. In this book the prologue worked. It varies book to book for me. Cynthia knows how to write the evilness, whew!

Deadly Heat is a guessing game to the very end. I ran through so many different scenarios before I finally figured it out..oooo about a paragraph before Cynthia told me. The cover of the book says “I dare you not to like a Cynthia Eden book” and I agree! You will love this book. The last in the trilogy, Deadly Heat hits store shelves March 1st I believe. Cynthia will be swinging by the blog around then with an awesome post and perhaps even a prize…..

Shelves: romantic-suspense

Loving this series so very much! I can't decide if I liked this one or the first one better. The whole SSD team rocks my socks, and I hope they all get stories. It was so nice to visit with Monica and Luke again, to see their relationship progress a little further. This is one of the main reasons I love to read series books.

I don't understand the hype for this series at all. I was completely unimpressed by the first one and because I'm an obsessive glutton for punishment, I pushed on to try to complete the series. There is more romance in this book versus the first, but nothing special. Soooo good! I am loving this Deadly series. I didn’t think Deadly Fear could be outdone, but Deadly Heat was smokin! These books have all the ingredients for a terrific romantic suspense series.
Sizzling chemistry between the two main characters, in this book it was Kenton and Lora.
The plot has to have lots action, a really insane villain, and keep you on edge. I thought I knew who the bad guy was, but then again…maybe not. The last few pages of this book had me wringing my hands.

This was a great book! It seriously had me on the edge of my seat the whole time, it was like watching an episode of Criminal Minds or something, lol!
