One of Ellora’s Cave’s most popular authors lives up to her promise with her Sensation debut.Dedicated artist Evie Washington isn’t the marrying kind. But when she admitted that her faceless portrait of a naked man was modeled on the devilishly handsome Reverend Brad Swanson, her family vowed to save her reputation—even if it meant taking away her hard-won freedom. Splendid! When I got the chance to review “Promises Reveal” from Sarah McCarty, I leapt at the opportunity. I think I even offered a bribe to Quentin, but I don’t remember (no, really Quentin, I don’t) what it was! In any event, whatever it was, it was SO worth it. I’m not a big fan of western romances, but I love her ‘Hell’s Eight’ series and couldn’t wait to see how this latest in her ‘Promises’ series translated into mainstream mass market pap
5+ stars!!!!

Cotton tore again as he made room for the press of his mouth. The church door rattled under the breeze. She almost jumped out of her skin. From the corner of her eye the cross over the altar loomed.

"We're going to hell for this."

His tongue slipped between her folds in a leisurely pass. "It'll be a fun trip."

Brad Swanson is a whiskey drinkin’, card playin’, cheroot smokin’, dirty talkin’…PREACHER. Yep. You heard right.

I have a penchant for bad boys, and let me tell ya, there's nothin
Something was missing in this book for me. I found myself a bit bored now and again while reading and just never really fully got into the story.

Promises Reveal is the fourth book in Sarah McCarty's historical western, erotic romance series, Promises. This book can mostly stand on its own, but if you want to understand the supporting characters and past references then you may want to read the other books in the series.

In Promises Reveal Evie Washington is a twenty-five year old unmarried woman

Hmm, well not as good as the others in the series but still a good read overall. The western feel that you really felt in the other books in this series isn’t as strong which is maybe because McCarty changed publishers (from EC to Berkley Sensation) and they asked for different things (?) This was very noticeable in the steam scenes. They weren’t as frequent and not as “important” as the other books it seemed.

This is Reverend Brad’s story and I was really looking forward to it especially because
This book had a very nice beginning, with the appearance of several familiar faces from the previous books in the Promises series. It was a hoot to see them again, and their "altercation" during, or better, before the wedding ceremony was very funny.

Unfortunately, I soon found out that those secondary characters were more entertaining than the hero and the heroine. Not that there was anything wrong with Brad and Evie. They were likeable enough, but I didn't feel any connection between them. The

The only thing keeping this from being a five-star read for me was the plot. I did love the way the relationships developed, but not the action/adventure side of the story.

Hide in plain sight is sometimes a good strategy. We have a minister to whom life offered so few choices that he ended up being a wanted outlaw under an assumed name. He finds a place to hide as a minister under his own name in a frontier town.

Evie is an unusual heroine. She is a free spirit straining at the restraints of resp
Evie Washington was just trying to prove a point when she hung the nude portrait up of Reverand Brad Swanson. Unfortunately, her bid for independence backfires quite horribly and she's forced to the altar with no regard for her feelings or her sense of pride. Brad Swanson has sworn that he never touched Evie and he swears if he had, she wouldn't have painted ridiculously tiny genitals on his portrait, but no one believes him and he's prodded to the wedding by the bride's mother and a shotgun. I forget how much I like western romances until Sarah McCarty writes another new book. This one is outstanding!!!
The fourth book in the Promise's series could be read on its own. You would not be lost if you had not read the others.
The one thing I like about Sarah's western romances is the hot hot scences you get.
Evie is an artist that just happens to believe in the women's movement. So when she paint's a portrait of the Reverend Brad Swanson a nude that causes alot of contreversy with her uncl

I'd love to meet an 'old testament' preacher like Rev.Swanson. Rarr!

#4 Promises - Western Historical Romance series (erotica)

The Reverend Brad Swanson (or so he SAYS) and Evie Washington

Sarah McCarty continues to grow as a writer. #4 in her Promises series was more developed than the first three (which were good and enjoyable books). With more plot, there's still enough smokin' sex.

This author sure knows how to jump start a book! This time, the good Reverend Brad Swanson (or IS he a reverend?) is standing reluctantly at the altar waiting for his bride to show up
The latest in Sarah McCarty’s Promises series, is Promises Reveal, about preacher, Reverend Brad Swanson and Evie Washington, the woman he is forced to marry because of a portrait she painted of him naked. Her uncle and mother, along with the loving yet nosy townspeople assume Brad and Evie were intimate, because how would Evie know about certain scars on Brad’s body let alone knowing what he looks like naked? When the story begins, there is literally a shotgun wedding about to happen and both B ...more
Nothing really revealed here..........
Here is what I don't understand about the authors of this genre, they really need to quit while they are ahead. Unlike other fields where you don't have to spend hard earned money to find out if a CD or a song is a dud, with books you have to actually buy it to learn that it was a big old dud. Sorry but this one turned out to be exactly that. As other reviewers have pointed out, we were thrown into the story with nothing, all of a sudden there was all this a
Wow. I just finished it and now I'm going to start with Promise Book 1 and re-read them all again. Great Book!! Not quite as Hot as the previous 3 Promise Books, but still very steamy with good dialog and story.

Rev Swanson is forced to marry a head strong young woman named Evie (an aspiring artist). She has been following him around for quite some time and paints a naked portrait of him using her imagination for the private parts and lets just say they were smaller than norm and not complimenta
The previous books in this series left me expecting certain things from this book. I mean the previous books were highly sexual with dirty talking cowboy's and woman who loved it.They totally did.

Sadly this book was as smokin hot as the others. This saddened me greatly, I was thinking Rev's book would be hot. Instead we have a man keeping secrets, (no suprise there)but this ones secrets weren't really all that bad. He was a good guy who thought he was a big baddy.
So sad. Evie was a bit immature

Being a fan of MS McCarty's work, I waited impatiently for this book to come out. The hero, The Reverend Brad Swanson, had shown such great promise in SM's previous books, so I can't adequately describe the bitterness I felt when halfway through Promises Reveal, I had to concede that the book was terrible. I think that the author herself had felt greatly pressured to write an amazing book, such was the clamour for the Rev's story. Anyway, ultimately, the book was not good, and the hero was unrec ...more
I loved this series! I liked the fact that all the characters from all the previous books are included and lets us see what is currently happening in their families along with being a part in Brad and Evie's story. I wish there was some kind of indication when Promises Decide will come out. Can't wait to read Jackson's story! Also want to know when Mara has her baby.
The fourth book in the Promises series. My favorite of the Promise series so far. Evie Washington is an artist who paints nudes. Not a very respectful occupation for those times and she ends up at the altar with the subject of her painting, Reverend Brad Swanson. But the Reverend has a few secrets, like the fact he's not really a reverend.
This one was a dollar store find sometime last year, maybe longer ago. It didn't indicate anywhere on or in the book that it was part of a series, so I went ahead and got it. Western romances aren't really my most favorite, but I do like 'em pretty well. Well, when I got home and added it here on GR, I saw it was part of a series, but the other three were by a different publisher and harder to come by in paper form without the ability to order online. So I decided to read it anyway, even if it w ...more

What a good book! Its funny, witty, sexy all wrapped into one. Sarah McCarty has done it, most of this book takes place in the bedroom, and how wonderful it is in there. If Reverend Brad Swanson was my husband in his arms is the only place id want to be... mmmm, hes a sexy ex-outlaw that's running from his past hiding out in a very small town. He wasn't looking to get married but the shotgun aimed at him makes him think otherwise, but what he expected even less was to fall in love with his new b ...more
I wanted to like this book much more than I did. I can't quite put my finger on exactly was "wrong" with this story. Ms. McCarty's writing is excellent and the story flows nicely and doesn't have any plot elements that were what I would deem unneeded. Brad was a character I had a hard time pinning down on how he looked. Obviously he's not the typical preacher man, being a former gunslinger. And I liked his possessiveness and protectiveness towards his wife. Evie I didn't care for so much. I thin ...more
Loved this book -- it was again one of those in-depth studies of human nature set in the times of the Old West. Again the reader meets the characters from the first three books. It is the shot-gun wedding of the Rev. Brad Swanson and Evie Washington, daughter of the town seamstress and a gifted artist. The journey these two take in this forced relationship is funny, poignant, caring, full of the flaws of human nature, tinged with the fear that the reverend has that his past life will not only bi ...more
PROMISES REVEAL is the 4th book in Sarah McCarty's Western Historical PROMISES series. Although this book is great as a stand-alone novel, I highly recommend reading the first 3 books (published with Ellora's Cave) because characters from the previous books are present in this book (it was wonderful to see how all of their stories are progressing!). The Reverend Brad's and Evie's story was a delightful read filled with humor and romance.
I am absolutely addicted to Sarah's books, having read all
Historical western romance that finishes the Promises series of books with a revolving cast of characters. Usually the later books in a series become dull and repetitive, but this was no such thing! It rounds out the stories by telling of the Reverend Brad Swanson, who was introduced in the first few books. Here his secret past is revealed, as a renegade thief who is hiding out from his old gang. He is wed, shotgun style, to the local oddball girl who decides to paint him al fresco. The story is ...more

Sexy and fun. I loved the "preacher man"
The painting made me laugh out loud. I like a good sexy western romance.
Cheap and Lazy
Different from the previous three…But just as good in its own way. Sarah McCarty does great characters. And very, very hot love scenes. Though this book lacked in their quantity, it makes up in quality. The writing feels smoother and more polished, too. It was great getting caught up on the other characters, but if you haven't read the other books in the series, it won't be a problem (other than making you want to--I'm ready to re-read them now!). When I think of great erotic western historicals ...more
This story had such a funny beginning that I decided to read it. About a woman who paints a picture of the town's Reverend without any clothes on. It's not the most um, er, proportional of depictions, but good enough to induce a shot gun wedding between the said painter and Reverend. Again caution readers about the author who likes "back door" romps and spankings a little too much for my tastes. Will not rush out to buy any of her books, but if the library has them I'll probably read them.
DNF for me. People keep telling me how much they love McCarthy and I've now tried to read two of her books and just do not get it. First of all, "Reverend Brad"? That has to be the worst romance novel hero name ever. Second of all, her dialogue just makes me batty. Few romance authors seem to be able to do witty, fast paced banter well. Jenny Cruisie is one. McCarthy cannot, it felt boring and stilted and frankly became hard to follow. Gave up before page 120. This was just awful.
Evie lives in the old west and believes in equality for men and women. This gets her in a lot of trouble with the town. She paints a nude portrait of the town preacher and is forced to marry him. But the preacher is not who he seems, Rev Brad "Shadow" Swanson is avoiding the law and can not admit his true identity without endangering his life. So they have a gunshot wedding and the "fireworks" begin..

Not one of the best of the Promises series, but I still liked the story of the Reverend. I'd read all the other Promises before reading this one so it was finally nice to know why the Reverend was so willing with W.O.M.B. to bring them their alcohol LOL and where the obvious harsh undercurrents in him was coming from. I'm happy that he finally found someone.

Sarah has traveled extensively throughout her life, living in other cultures, sometimes in areas where electricity was a concept awaiting fruition and a book was an extreme luxury. While she could easily adjust to the lack of electricity, living without the comfort of a good book was intolerable
