Heather Brewer successful series of The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod was awesome. Now with her new book series The Slayer Chronicles it starts with the character from Vladimir Tod, Joss. This is about how Joss joined the slayer society and how his sister died. Challenges of life can be painful. It worths having challenges because it teaches you life lessons and confidence in yourself. After his sister was killed by a vampire, he trains to be a slayer. He is under training under his uncle, Ab More...

My review once again disappeared into the wherever that things go when you click to save and poof!
So you will have to take my word for it that I wrote a review of this book that would win the equivalent of the Academy Award for literary criticism. It was astoundingly astute and amazingly…… okay, it was a plain old review and I’ll try to recreate it.
This book has both too much and too little. There is too much internal dialogue and too little actual character development. You’d think More...

I went with a 3 star liked it, but go back and forth between 3 and it just being ok. I, unlike most others, have not read the parallel series and therefore had no expectations of the main character. I found it difficult to fall in love with Joss, the main character of this story. Even with a life defining tragic background that should make you say "I understand you and have an emotional attachment to everything you do" the feelings just never materialize.
I also had some mome More...

I reviewed this book about a reluctant teenage vampire for Deseret Connect, and I think that a certain audience will really, really love it (teenagers and certain YA vampire enthusiasts). For me, I am happy that I liked it--it ended on two satisfying twists. Prose was pretty boring, honestly, and Joss's thoughts are full of cliches like "he would never know how much I needed mentoring" (not an actual quote). I'll link my full review later. Some things I wanted to mention but were to pe More...

So guys here is the review I promised of the amazing Heather Brewer's new series The Slayer Chronicles. Trust me when I say this, she does not disappoint. If you enjoyed The Chronicles of Vladimir Todd AT ALL you will love this series just as much.

So usually I don't do for spoilers in my ARC reviews, and I am not going to start now. If any of you have noticed in the past, this will be a preview of how AWESOME this book is and you can come back on the release date to get the low down More...

Let me start by saying that this cover is absolutely perfect for this book. It's simple but you can definitely detect a ton of teenage angst in it!

Now, this book blew me away. It's been a while since I read the Vlad Tod series, so I forgot A LOT of details. I was totally wary about starting this book, but my concerns were totally unnecessary. This book takes place before the Vlad Tod series, there More...

First Kill has a simple cover, yet it shows that this book has a connection with the Vladimir Tod series, it also gives you an insight into the age group the book is suited for.

The blurb is well written in the way it gives you a little perspective into the story line and the setting of the book. Reading the blurb lets you understand the background of Joss a little more, it also leaves you wanting more details of the past and future for Joss McMillan as he discovers his family heritage More...

I should probably start by saying that I hated the character of Joss McMillan in the Vlad Tod series. Therefore, I really expected to hate this before I started it. Well, I still hate Joss, but I didn’t hate the book. Unfortunately, I didn’t fall in love with it either, as I did with Eighth Grade Bites.

The story was interesting and well written. Author Heather Brewer continues her uncanny knack for fully understanding and flawlessly translating teen boy angst to the printed page. More...

Brewer returns to the world of Vampire Vladimir Tod with a new viewpoint, that of vampire slayer Joss McMillan. After his sister was killed when he was only 10 years old, Joss swore vengeance on the undead. Now 13, Joss is in the mountains of upstate New York, learning to be a slayer at the hands of his Uncle Abraham, the most respected Slayer currently active. When the vampire hive they are hunting begins boldly killing slayers, Abraham begins to suspect there is a traitor among them, and it mi More...

This series is a sister series or is it brother series or probably the best term might be a cousin series to the "Chronicles of Vladimir Tod" series. I liked all of that series except for the ending, which I thought sucked (it was not really that bad, but the word just fits so well). Anyway, this book tells how Joss first became a member of the Slayer Society and explains a bit how slayers have seemingly super-human type skills - it is genetic apparantly. Joss's uncle Abraham is a sl More...

Sometime when I read a book I feel like I'm peering through a little window. Other times it's like I've stepped through that window and am part of the world. The latter is so much better. When I read Heather Brewer's first book, I was peering through a window into an interesting scene, and with each subsequent book the window got wider. This most recent book, however, has me stepping right through to the other side.

I really like the idea of getting to see the summers between the school More...

Brewer's new series, The Slayer Chronicles, goes back to give us Joss' story. It feels really weird to be so sympathetic to him since he was an antagonist to Vlad in the original series, but learning how he came to be a Slayer really does help you understand him more. Joss found his sister right after she was drained by a vampire and saw the monster still standing over her. He lived through the aftermath of that traumatic event of losing his sister, seeing his parents trapped in grief and hav More...

Joss Macmillan (yes, THAT Joss Macmillan) has a tragic past. He once had a little sister, Cecile, who was his reason for living, his only friend. When Joss was ten, Cecile died at the hands of a vampire. Distraught and seeking revenge, Joss began training as a vampire slayer. Now, three years later, Joss prepares to put his skills into action.

I absolutely loved The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod, so needless to say I was stoked when I heard that Heather Brewer was writing a parallel series. This series takes place as the Vlad Tod series, but focuses on the life of Joss McMillian, vampire slayer (in training). It can be read on its own, so you don't have to have read all the Vlad Tod books to read this.

Joss McMillian was just an ordinary kid, until a vampire murdered his younger sister. Eager for revenge, he takes up his uncl More...

The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod, Heather Brewer's debut series, was one that I did not immediately enjoy. It took several tries, patience and determination. Eventually, around novel 3, I found myself really enjoying the world Heather had created. When Heather announced that there would be a separate companion series following the story of friend-turned-enemy of Vlad, Jo More...

There's two sides to every story and Heather Brewer does a fabulous job at giving us our first dose of Joss Macmillan's story. Fans of Vladimir Tod will remember Joss as the one time friend, and now enemy of Vlad's. Okay, so I finally finished this story. I was so excited to get it from the library for my daughter as the Vlad series is her absolute favorite. I was even more excited to get to read it before her since she was finishing up The Hunger Games series (for the 4th time) and wanted to read the entire Vlad series again before tackling First Kill. It took me longer to read this one book than it did for her to devour Vlad's entire story!

The Slayer Chronicles: First Kill or Why Heather Brewer ROCKS!

I'm a huge Vlad fan! I totally LOVED all of Heather Brewer's The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod books! It was super sad to read the last in the series.

But, as usual, Heather Brewer doesn't disappoint her minions!

In The Slayer Chronicles, she tells the story from Joss McMillian & the Slayers' point of view.

In First Kill, an almost companion series to The Chronicles Of Vladimir Tod, we get to learn how Joss came to be a vampire hunter (Book 3, 10th Grade Bleeds is where we met Joss). In the beginning, Joss is about 10 and loves his little sister to death. He's a bug collector, and his home is perfect. School isn't as great though, as everyone ignores him because of his unnatural abilities at athletics. But one night, Joss awakens to hear Cecile, More...

Wow. I have to say that I loved the Vladimir Tod series by Heather Brewerand really enjoyed it! Loved the vampire theme from a different point of view. Loved this world that she created. So I entered into the Slayer Chronicles not quite sure how I'd like it, because I kind of liked the vampires better this time, unlike in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, where you do root mostly for the slayer.
