Ummed and Ahhd over whether to give this a 4 or 5 star rating (probably more a 4.5) but as this is easily my favourite book of the series, I decided to be generous.

I was equally smitten by the two main characters. With Christopher because he was rough around the edges, demanding, and determined to be a bad ass and with Honoria because she managed to remain 'mostly' calm and ladylike, yet loved nothing more than to stand firm and challenge said bad ass! Despite the silly title, I found this the most likeable book in the series. Yet again, Ashley serves up a great adventure, which does much to offset some cheesy elements.

i enjoyed it because the characters from the first two series are in it but in general this story seemed much less polished. Honorias character is said to be disobedient and fiery, but yet christopher only had to look at her and she would turn into a drivelling ball of hormonal lust. Christopher seemed to only love her for her beauty, but i dont blame him! there wasnt much else to the woman...

I liked the fact that they had married long ago and he hadn’t been with anyone else since then, and she believed him to be dead and so had moved on and was engaged to someone else. But I didn’t understand why she was engaged to that wimp of a man because she doesn’t even like him; the author really didn’t make it clear either. I liked this.
It was.....ok.
I spent more time wondering about the previous books-that i did not read-than getting in to this plot line as much as I wanted to!
I'm sorry for that,and I will try to go back to this in the future-after I get the first two books.
But all that aside this work of literature was well written-as are many Ashleys books.
She is a capital writer and she has and amazing imagination!
I liked Cris,more then his wife but most of all I loved Manda!
I wish she had a book of her own and...more

Well, I finished the book. The relationship between the h/h seemed to be based entirely on sex and there was little depth to either of them. It's too bad because they started out as interesting characters and in another book in the series were definetly interesting.

This early historical romance by Jennifer Ashley definitely doesn't have the finesse of the later MacKenzies series, but it's diverting.

Unfortunately it's the third or fourth in a series and I only read one of the earlier ones. And that was a while ago. I did get the feeling I was missing something. Honoria Ardmore and Christopher Raine's book.

The Care & Feeding of Pirates was the third book in Jennifer Ashley's pirate series. I think I liked this one the most out of the 3. The book wasn't very piraty and the book could have been called "How a Pirate Retires".

Having said that, I enjoyed reading all about the voyage on the ship and there was some great action while Christopher and his friends all rescued his sister Manda.

I really enjoyed this book although I didn't realize it was the last in a series so I'll have to find the others now. This was also my first by this author, and I really liked her writing style so yea!!

I was not a fan of the brother; he seemed like a jerk through the ending, but maybe reading his story will help me like him more. Other than that, I really don't have anything major to say. It was a good story with characters I enjoyed, and a journey that was pleasant to read about.

What Honoria did not know, is that the execution did not take place, they hung another criminal in his stead, and Christopher was shoved aboard an English merchant, taking him far away to the East, where he survived quite a few hazardous adventures. But he always meant to come back for her. And well for his ship, his crew, his sister and his gold.
What he doesn’t understand, is that Honoria does not want to love him again, loosing him 4 years ago, broke her heart and almost her spirit. She doesn’t want to take that risk again, even though her body craves his. But Christopher is stubborn, she was the one thought that kept him alive all those years, and he won’t give her up. She is his wife, she will obey him, and she will come with him. He is this close to finding his sister, and he won’t wait for her to make up her mind.

And so Honoria is taken aboard his new, smaller, ship, and even has to learn how to sail it. But with James in pursuit, will they be able to go dig up Christopher’s bounty and sail away?

I enjoyed this book very much. I though Honoria a very cold woman, as she was only mentioned through James’ eyes before. But she is very warm and feisty, and she gives Christopher a run for his money. Even though he loves to command her, as is his husbandly right, she twists him around her finger. If only she can get him to talk about his feelings … and why he came back for real.
I totally do understand Honoria, for guarding her heart this time, but of course she was fighting a battle she had lost already. And then wheatblond Christopher, scarred very badly, is not interested in her loving him, her lust is enough for now. He is sure he can make her love him again. But of course he doesn’t tell her is in love now, as he was when they first met, or when they met for the second time 9 years later and got married. Getting a man to talk about his feelings is very difficult.

There is also a secondary lovestory which I enjoyed very much: the meticulous mr. Henderson and Christopher’s sister, Manda. A feisty amazon warrior pirate, and a man who enjoys all the luxuries of life, fine clothes and food, but still knows how to fight and win. I would not mind reading a novella about them.

As always I enjoyed this old Jennifer Ashley book very much, and heartily recommend it to everyone, even if you are not really a fan of pirate books. It is nothing like those clichéd stories at all. A story filled with humor, adventure and hot love scenes. Of course there are Graydon and Alexandra, James and Diana and their lives who are intertwined in this story as well. I only have a little trouble with the epilogue, a seasoned pirate and adventure turning to a sedate life as a rich gentleman? Nah, they will have to sail away some times. After all, Honoria loves it just as much as Christopher.

8,5 stars.

It starts out with Honoria imagining or thinking that she is imagining seeing her dead husband, Christopher Raine, who was hanged for pirating. Four years previous, they spent one night together; ironically the night before he was to be hanged and was married before she thought he had died. Honoria desperately loved Christopher and a part of her died with him that day. To the present day, no one knows of her marriage to Christopher apart from herself and she intends to keep it that way. Until someone she leasts expects to show up in her life. She is currently engaged to a respectable man, and although she knows she will never love or care for him as she had Christopher she knows she needs to get married. However, Christopher shows up in her bedroom, upon which she demands answers from him. The main question was how could he be alive after all these years? Before she gets her answer though, her sister-n-law interrupts and is shocked to find that a woman she considers a sister is actually married to a man her husband and Honoria's brothers despises and is his enemy. Christopher is on a search hunt for his sister whom he hasn't been able to find for years; but thinks he is close to finding her. Christopher takes Honoria along with him on the search. Once they find her however, Honoria is duty bound to stay by her husband's side. Although she knows the pain is too great to love him, the passion builds up between them again that is far too great to resist.

I found this to be a story that I could laugh and cry and just let out a frustrating sigh with this pair: Christopher and Honoria. Despite their desire for one another, Christopher loves to order Honoria about and Honoria of course doesn't tolerate it well. Honoria does everything she can to purely irritate him at first so he will want to get rid of her. Honoria knew she could never truly live with a man she could never love. So Christopher goes about his own alpha male way to show her true love once more. There were a few minor things that I disliked about the book, such as the way the dialogue was. It just seemed to me to be so similar between Christopher and Honoria; very similiar scenes for the most part. However, this is such a truly adventurous read with witty come backs, passionate desire that will fog up the windows, and a adventure that will take you across great distances. I fell in love with both of the characters as well as secondary characters. Jennifer Ashley has truly written a magical story that will enter into your heart, and take you back in time with pirates, and hunting for treasure and a true love that conquers all! Its definitely one I wouldn't want to miss out on reading! (less)

I really enjoyed this book so much, I have to say its more like 4.5 stars. I loved Christopher and his sense of humor. I thoroughly enjoyed the banter between Christopher and Honoria. They had wonderful love for one another right from the start.

I haven't much to say here except this wasn't a terribly pirate-y book. I've never really been much of one for regency romances and this definitely fit that category. All the characters were simply trying to hard to maintain an air of geniality that it really missed the mark. The characters might as well have been taking a day cruise on a yacht. Unfortunate.

I think I just read a string of truly excellent historical novels lately and this just didn't grab me. I usually fly through these things and I kind've picked through this one.

I think my main problem was that the h/h were hot and heavy from page one. I like my romances built up. Jennifer Ashley is a good author and I'm looking forward to Lady Isabella coming out this summer, so I have that to look forward to.

I really enjoy this series. I love the whole naughty pirate having their way with proper young ladies. This book start slowly and at some bits honoira really bugged me with the "I can't love u" but by half way the book really picked up and all character from the pervious book got involved. Loved the HEA. really liked Mr Henderson getting his story too.

I didn't like this as much as the first two in the series. Not as much adventure or thrills (odd, considering that the hero is a pirate (semi-retired) and they're going treasure hunting).

I did like the characters, but felt the action was seriously lacking. 2.5 stars.

This was a disappointing ending to a charming series. I think my biggest problem was the lack of playfulness and fun. Seriously, even the "removing splinters from butt cheeks" scene was dry and humorless. There also wasn't much conflict or real plot to be had.

Loved the alpha pirate, Christopher Raine, a wild man in and out of bed. The heroine was a tad stubborn for my taste, but ultimately, I rooted for this couple. Love romance on the high seas, just enough adventure to balance the romance. Enjoyable read.

I would have given it three stars, but the epilogue knocked it down to two stars. Too many random plots and plot holes, characters that should have been interesting weren't, too much telling instead of showing. Not up to the Jennifer Ashley standard I'm used to.

Great story! Honoria and Christopher marry in secret on the day before his death. However, four years later he returns to capture his wife and take her off on a search for gold.
