I'm Lexi Carmichael, geek extraordinaire. I spend my days stopping computer hackers at the National Security Agency. My nights? Those I spend avoiding my mother and eating cereal for dinner. Even though I work for a top-secret agency, I've never been in an exciting car chase, sipped a stirred (not shaken) martini, or shot a poison dart from an umbrella.

Until today, that is

I read this book at the end of 2010, and if you follow me on twitter you already know that I raved about it for days. For my first review in 2011, I thought I would start off with a bang and say I LOVE THIS BOOK! It's not a romance - romance, but instead a mystery/comedy with the perfect mix of possible love interests. Seriously, there are two main men vying for Lexi's attention but without spoiling a thing I can say I'm TEAM ELVIS all the way!

The writing in this book was exactly what I love -...more

Longing for a bit of the old James Bond type thrillers? Want something with a little chase to it? Would you like to see a geeky girl on the run to stop the bad guys? If you answered yes to any of those three questions then you'll probably like this book.

Readers of romance & fans of books similar to The Givenchy Code will enjoy this book. (It's not identical to TGC, but similar enough to where it reminded me a little of it.) Lexie Carmichael isn't the brightest computer geek out there, but sh...more

This was a fun book. Think 1/3 Stephanie Plum, 1/3 Lisbeth Salander, and 1/3 James Bond.

Lexi is a 24 going on 25 year old woman with a top secret computer job. She is a computer geek, wears no makeup, has had sex exactly one time in her life, and it is quite possible that she buys her clothes at Walmart. Not what you picture as a Bond girl... She also loves Dunkin Donuts and Diet Coke. She is very down to earth, sassy, and honest. She does not have a side kick named Lulu, but there are hot guys...more

I accidentally requested book 2 of this series from netGalley, so I found myself in a position to find and read book 1 first because I don't enjoy reading books out of order.

This was my first Moffett read, and I really enjoyed it! It had a very easy flow, which made it a quick, light read. I enjoy Lexi's character - she is that geeky yet sexy girl, in a bookish subtle sort of way. I don't even think she knows yet what kind of power she has over certain men. Just because she doesn't like her figu...more

No One Lives Twice is the first book in the series about Lexi Carmichael, the super geek who leads an extremely boring life until her best friend sends her a package. Lexi lived her whole life wrapped up in numbers and computers, loving her job at the NSA tracking down hackers. Her only friends are her college BFF Basia, and the super smart and somewhat reclusive Zimmerman twins.

What begins as another ordinary day for Lex...more

B/c it's on my kobo I don't know what page I'm on but I'm in chapter 5.

This is my first Carina Press book - they only come in e-format - and it has a hqn bombshell feel. So far it's cute and funny... but she needs to stop running in circles and start heading in a direction soon.

I go half way and then went and read the last chapter... it summed up the other half of the book and now I'm debating bothering with the middle. There's nothing more annoying that a character that decides to play hero and...more

Lexi Carmichael is a geek, a computer geek to be specific, and works for the NSA. She has no love life to speak of, and doesn't find herself to be very appealing to men. But now her best friend Basia has disappeared and men seem to be lining up to help find her.

I loved the action in this story. It was fast paced and exciting. It was great to see a bunch of computer geeks in action to save the day. In fact, the computer geeks were my favorite part...except for Lexi. Now since Lexi is our main cha...more

I wish I was a computer geek sometimes. I wish that when something happened to my computer, I could fix it effortlessly. And occasionally I’ve wished I could do even funkier things than that! So that’s kind of why I requested this book from NetGalley. It sounded like something I’d like to be involved in!

Lexi Carmichael is almost 25 and works for the NSA – the National Security Agency in Maryland. She’s a mathematical whiz and fairly proficient with computers and although all her work is classifi...more

Lexi Carmichael is a computer geek to the max. She has no boyfriend and no real social life. That changes when a friend mails her a document that has people from all over the world knocking down Lexi’s door trying to get it. She calls in reinforcements in the form of her computer geek friends and realizes she is the last piece to the puzzle in a fertilization program gone horribly wrong.

After a few days of pondering, I am still just mehh about this book. I am in love with the plot and some of th...more

At 25, Lexi Carmichael leads a quiet life. She uses her prodigious computer skills to virtually chase and trap hackers for the NSA then goes home to enjoy her only vices, Dunkin Donuts and Diet Coke.
The sudden appearance of threatening armed thugs, a mysterious document, and a missing best friend plunges Lexi into a vortex of secrets and lies forcing her to step into the real world.
No One Lives Twice is a light mystery whose strength lies with an original plot that provi...more

This book made me laugh--and was exactly what I was looking for at the time. Moffett's character's pop with life and humor. Lexi, the main character, was smart, funny, and resourceful, even though she got into a situation that was way over her head. In fact, I liked all the characters in this book: Lexi's mom, who was always trying to set her up with a stable but incredibly boring guy; the twins, who were total geek hackers who helped out Lexi without a second thought; Lexi's boss; and the cowor...more

I absolutely adored this book! I loved Lexi. She reminded me of myself--minus the mathematician decoding thing. So I instantly bonded with her. The secondary characters were fabulous--my favorite being the Zimmerman twins. I actually have friends like this and Lexi's interaction with them made me smile and felt so close to home. I also have a huge soft spot for geeks and found myself really, really pulling for one of the twins throughout this story. I think he deserves a little hunk of

It was almost like this was two books smooshed into one. The first half was really clunky, the main character was annoying and there were numerous plot lines that went absolutely nowhere after we spent too much time getting into them. The second half, however, was quite fun as the character started to (kind of) come into her own in a rather entertaining manner that was pretty funny at times.

I have numerous complaints about the story: the protagonist who we're told is brilliant seems to be anythi...more

I really enjoyed the characters and world of computer hacking and international spies that basically landed on Lexi's lap. One minute she was heading to dinner with her folks. The next minute she has a gun in her face and hired thugs threatening her life. Lexi is easily to relate to and root for.

The best part of this story was the incredibly original story line. It will keep you on your toes and the plot is both timely and completely believable.

No One Lives Twice is a fun and wild adventure of an unsuspecting geek thrown into the crazy world of espionage, but be prepared for a few bumps in the road with this novel. Still, that’s no reason you shouldn’t pull up a chair, grab a shaken martini and prepare yourself for Lexi Carmichael...the female James Bond!

Lexi Carmichael was having your average boring and uneventful day when she was confronted in the street by a mad man with a gun. He demands Lexi had over a document she has no knowledg...more

I really wanted to like Julie Moffett's No One Lives Twice--after all, a comedic action-adventure story starring a girl who's a computer geek should have been tailor-made for me, right? Certainly the premise is promising enough: Lexi Carmichael is a computer expert working for the NSA, leading a predictably boring life, until the disappearance of her best friend.

Speaking as a woman employed in the computer industry, though, I fear I found Lexi's ability with a keyboard distressingly lacking. Muc...more

I loved this book. I'd like to have given it a 4.5 but couldn't figure out how to give it another half-star.

I couldn't give it 5 out of 5 because I felt she'd dropped a couple of plot lines.

I was pleased to see she has a sequel coming out this summer. Maybe I'll get my resolution then.

The plot dashes along, leaving the reader breathless. I never saw the plot twists coming.

I will definitely get the next Lexi book.

This book can be described in one word. AMAZING! I was intrigued from the beginning to the end. There are so many twist and turns and unexpected agendas that you do not know who's on good side or who's on the bad side. Although there are some terms that i did not understand, the author did a excellent hob explaining it. the dialog will keep you guessing the entire time. It was mysteriously funny and completely unpredictable. I love it! I will definitely be reading more stories from this author,...more

Wow! Funny, fast moving, believable. I connected immediately with the main character. The author has a Polish background and firsthand knowledge of computers, (not suggesting she's a hacker, mind!), so all that rang true. Don't know how government security agencies work but her account was believeable. Great read and can't wait for the next in the series to come out in June.

Julie's sister hosted a give-away for this story and I won. Lucky me!! In exchange I wanted to leave an honest review.
I loved this book! This is a great series and I cannot wait to read the next one. Lexi and her crew were a fun bunch and I'm glad their adventures will continue.

Eh. For a geek girl in 2010 (assumed based on pub date), she really didn't seem to understand computers very well. And no self-respecting nerd would choose shopping over just doing their own freaking laundry. The incessant "omg I'm so gorgeous and every guy is in love with me" thing also got old.

the story was good but sometimes seemed over the top. It wasn't quite a cozy but not a full fledged suspense...maybe somewhere in the middle.

I really enjoyed this book, it's on the line of the Janet Evanovich books.

This was such a fun read! I love books written in first person narrative and, for me, which made the story even funnier. Reading the thoughts that go on in Lexi's head was a hoot! I especially loved her "computer nerd" friends, the Zimmerman twins: Elvis and Xavier. This book reminded me a little of the Stephanie Plum series, only with government espionage. I was a little disappointed when the story ended. It was a great ride! I can't wait for the second book to come out! I highly recommend this...more

The first page hooked me right into the story, and the twists and turns, quirky characters and fast action, plus some laugh-out-loud humor, guarantees a good, solid read. Lexi, computer geek, sets off to help a friend and discovers that such excitement might just get her killed. No spoilers here, but if you like a twisting plot and a bit more development than Evanovich, this book's for you.

I have always been a romantic at heart. So when I finally decided to pursue my dream of writing a novel, naturally, it was a romance. I have published several novels in many genres – historicals, time-travels and paranormals.
I’m a military brat (Air Force) and have traveled extensively. My more exciting exploits include attending high school in Okinawa, Japan (Go, Kubasaki!), backpacking around Eu...more
