This is the third book in a series. I am not sure what really happened in those first books, but this book has enough info that you can get into the story.

Part of the book talks of Elizabeth who uses anyone she feels will suit her needs, and doesn't care what happens to them. She calls this "The Game". "Heart of Ice" by Lis Wiehl with April Henry is part of the "Triple Treat" series which follows a group of three friends: a TV reporter, a Federal prosecutor and an FBI agent—as they investigate crimes together. The group did remind me a bit of James Patterson's "Women's Murder Club", but it is a format that works and I will definitely be reading more in this series.

If I could give this book 10 stars, I would. It was just fantastic, so good I am referring it to friends. I also am going to read all the other books by Lis Wiehl, and happy I found a new author who peaks my interest. From start to finish, it is jam packed with suspense, thrills, and twists. Heart of Ice is the third Triple Threat novel, following Face of Betrayal and Hand of Fate. The Triple Threat Club consists of Cassidy Shaw, TV crime reporter; Allison Pierce, federal prosecutor; and Nicole Hedges, FBI agent; all now working in their hometown of Portland, Oregon, often on different sides of the same case.

The action shifts between Elizabeth and the three Triple Threat women, who are all convincingly portrayed with a refreshing realism – none are too perfect. All have their own personal issues that occasionally interfere with their personal lives, and with their ability to connect the dots regarding Cassidy’s new friend, Alison’s sister and the missing TV intern.

While certain plot elements make it clear that Heart of Ice is part of an ongoing series focussing on the three women, their cases and their personal lives, this is not intrusive nor does it assume any prior knowledge – I read the book without having read the first two, and didn’t feel I was missing any vital information. The plot is underpinned by the case of the so-called Want Ad Killer, but it is immediately apparent that this is the ongoing sub-plot, not the main focus of this novel.

Heart of Ice is an excellent read. Although published by a Christian publishing house, there is no overt preachiness (although as a Christian reader I did note some Christian themes at certain points), and I am sure anyone who likes their thriller or suspense novels without strong language or any gratuitous sex scenes will enjoy Heart of Ice. Liz Wiehl and the Triple Threat Club are a welcome new addition to my reading list. I’ve already bought Face of Betrayal, and will be looking out for the release of the next book.

Authors Diehl and Henry cleverly drop in pieces of the complex plot in dribs and drabs, working from several points of view, and because a series of incidents seems so unrelated, the reader is left wondering how the mystery will be solved. This is high suspense, gripping in its chillingly grim detail, but it’s also a testament to the bond of friendship between Allison, Nicole and Cassidy, none more touching than when Nicole finally reveals her concern and struggle with breast cancer.

It took me a while to get into the story, likely because this is the first of the series I’d read, but once I got to know the protagonists, I couldn’t put the book down. Heart of Ice is beautifully written with well-developed characters and a compelling plot.

These three women are unaware of who the killer is, and they have no idea the proximity this woman has to their own lives and feelings. I found the Heart of Ice to be a very suspenseful novel. Since the reader already was aware of who the killer was, there was not that sense of mystery and suspense. However, I was gripped throughout the book wondering with bated breath whether the Triple Threat Club would figure out who the killer was before it was too late. The author also did a good job creating events in the story that one did not realize were interconnected until far later in the book. The plot moved well, and I enjoyed watching the members of the Triple Threat Club grow and overcome their own problems at the same time as the overall plot was laid out. There was some description, but it did not overwhelm the overall story. One message I received from the novel was to be careful of the people you allow to influence your life. Make sure you know the person before you give them control over some aspect of your life. Another message I gleaned from Heart of Ice was to trust God when circumstances occur in your life which you cannot control. I saw this message not because a certain character followed that advice, but because they did not trust God and instead tried to survive trusting only in themselves. I thought the book had some good messages, but I did feel when I completed the novel that more mention of God and His workings through life would have made the story feel more whole and complete. The only Christian character in the book does pray for the problems her friends face, but I feel there was opportunity for her to have been more open with her faith and that witnessing would have fit well the mood of the scene at that time. Overall, I felt the Heart of Ice was very entertaining, was written well, and contained some beneficial themes. (less)

The trio teams up yet again to solve a crime and unexpectedly become part of Elizabeth’s ominous plans. None of them realize they may have their killer right within their reach and they have unknowingly allowed her into their inner social circle, giving her the power to control and manipulate them as well.

For those who appreciate that Lis writes stories practically ripped from the headline news, much of this story is about a character nearly identical to Phillip Markoff, the Boston medical student who was arrested for the “Craigs list” murders. While I didn’t follow that case closely, much of what I heard on the news and read in the papers seems to be written into this storyline, including his fiancé, the murder locations and the evidence.

Overall, this is a very clean read for being a crime novel and Lis wrote a believable story without using profanity or overly graphic forensic descriptions.

Those with more conservative tastes however may find that this novel has too many sexual innuendos. While not overly descriptive, readers definitely understand what the author is implying.

This story is chilling and suspenseful and not for anyone who spooks easily. Fans of mystery and suspense will be elated at Lis’s latest addition to her list of thrillers.

This is the first Triple Threat novel that I have read, and I have to say that I am impressed. Meeting Nicole the FBI agent for the first time, I immediately get a sense of her personality. She’s tough, as a mother she’s protective and as a woman she’s guarded. I can empathize with her and some of the decisions that I make, even if it did make me cringe at the heartache those decisions caused. Allison, the Federal prosecutor, is doing the best that she can to recover from a brutal life blow. But it’s refreshing to see her not give up on herself or her faith. You can tell that her faith is important to her, but it is not overwhelming in the story. Cassidy, the crime reporter for Channel Four news, is refreshing naive; I felt draw to her character more than the others, mainly because there is a sense of innocence in this character. She works hard for her job, but her jealousy and her sort of addictive behavior cries out for sympathy. Elizabeth is a personality to be wary of, but it’s easy to find someone with her traits easier than it comfortably should.

The characters were well developed and relatable. Even the situations that they find themselves in were disconcertingly real. (Only of course if you had one of these careers). The story unfolded with enough suspense to keep you moving forward and enough clues to not really know what’s going to happen next. The only thing that I found too distracting was the similarities between the fictional “Want Ad Killer” and the real life “Craig’s List Killer”. I found myself comparing the two until the stories that had been simmering in the background took off. Overall, I enjoyed the story and look forward to more Triple Threat Novels.(less)

This was the third book in the series. I have not had the chance to read the first two. However, that didn’t preclude me from enjoying this one immensely. Each book is a separate entity which is nice because you don’t feel like you missed anything by not reading the others. I do plan on going back and reading the first two in the series. "Heart of Ice" is a suspense novel. Unlike the previous two novels in the series, there was no mystery in this one--you know who the killer is from the beginning. Lis Wiehl’s Heart of Ice is a chilling look into the psyche of a sociopath. Bringing together the Triple Threat Club of Cassidy, Allison and Nicole to solve another crime, you don’t need to have read any of the other books in the series to follow this exciting case.

Lis Wiehl & April Henry have recently become one of my favorite writing tandems. About a month ago I came across this book at the library and though I thought it sounded interesting....being anal like I am there was just no way I could start reading the 3rd book of a series without having read the previous 2. The other 2 were very good reads (I have reviewed them here)and I was ready for the 3rd installment...It did not disappoint at all! I would call this clearly the best of the 3 IMHO!

The other 2 were very good reads (I have reviewed them here)and I was ready for the 3rd installment...It did not disappoint at all! I would call this clearly the best of the 3 IMHO!

In the first book I only felt like Allison had any depth among the main characters (and still find her the most identifiable for me). I did feel like Nicole was developed a little better in the 2nd book, but did not really have a handle on cassidy. The series allows the development of characters to progress and Cassidy is giving more of a personality that I can buy into (even as disfunctional she is), Nicole's health issues and inner turmoil have given her a real depth and strength of character. I am under the impression that Lis Wiehl is a Christian, and like how she weaves her faith into characters and plot lines without beating people over the head with (although perhaps an athiest might disagree with me?).

This was the fastest paced of the 3 books, and I found it the least confusing. The first one had so many periphial story lines that got lost in the story or hindered it, this was very easy to digest and keep track of. In the 2nd book I voiced disappointment over not getting a chance to encounte the antogonist of the story untill it was basically over. In this book we are given a well developed femme fatale. Elizabeth Avery is a brilliantly created femal villan. The depth of her character and twisted mind were a major draw that made me finnish this book in one day rather than going to bed at a decent hour (3:28 at the minute). A villian that although I knew she was evil and morally deficient, was still able to wrap me around her finger just as she did with most of the people she encountered.

A great book, and a very good series so far....I hope it continues....I want to know is Nicole's cancer treatment a success, does she fall in love with Lief (or at least let him in a little), and does poor Mikayla get attacked again (this girl is going to need major counseling if so!)...Do Allison & Marshall try again for a baby? What stupid addictive personality dysfunction will cassidy develop next...Inquiring minds want to know! (less)

Heart of Ice by Lis Wiehl with April Henry is an excellent thriller. It will keep you reading far into the night, if you dare.
It was amazing to me in this story how Elizabeth didn’t seem to have any feelings or heart for anyone, but herself. She uses and abuses people everywhere she goes. I like how you know exactly who did the killings and why in this book. It isn’t a book where you have to guess who did it because you already know.

This is a story about three women, working in criminal investigative jobs in Portland, Oregon. I haven't read many thrillers that are Christian, actually I don't think I've read any. I was a little concerned about how interested I would be since I'm not too huge on the crime thriller genre in the first place. Anyways, I would say this is on par with other secular books I've read in the genre, and it held my attention well enough throughout it.

If you are looking for great suspense with strong female characters, this is it.

It's written by Lis Wiehl, legal analyst for Fox News, with the help of April Henry, an accomplished suspense writer.

I'd describe it as chick lit suspense novel, that explores friendships of women interwoven with a very suspenseful crime story. The Triple Threat Club follows three intelligent women, Cassidy ~ Allison ~ Nicole (they reminded me of James Patterson’s Women Murder Club). This is the third Triple Threat novel featuring federal prosecutor Allison Pierce, FBI special agent Nicole Hedges, and Portland, Ore., TV crime reporter Cassidy Shaw. However it could be read as a stand alone book. It doesn't play much into the previous books. MY Review:
I got this book from booksneeze and let me tell you I was so excited to read it! Finally it arrived in the mail and I just dove right in, It took me a day and a half to finish it. What can I say ? WOW!
This was such an awesome read. It has suspense and mystery and just keeps you pulled in. The characters are great , they each bring their own story to the table.
This book was so entertaining, I really enjoyed that every time a chapter started it wasn't just following one person. You never knew who it would start with it could be elizabeth or allison or any character and that is what I really loved I think when A book is written like that it keeps you more involved.
The author did a great job with that. I could not put it down. overall, I give this book 5 out of 5.
The cover is beautiful, The characters are awesome! great story line and you definitely want to find out the end. So, if you are into suspense and Awesome strong women I would definitely recommend picking this up. After reading this and enjoying it so much I have actually just ordered this authors 2 other books for this series : )

When I first read the summary of the book I didn’t think there would be much thrill since it clearly states who the sociopath killer is, but it still intrigued me. I was immediately proven wrong within the first few pages, as I could not put it down! It is chock full of mystery and thrilling suspense. The killer, Elizabeth, is your typical neighbor next door. This was a freebie book from Amazon they sent me to read and review for them. Overall, I thought the book was okay. I really enjoyed the woven web the author created between the serial killer, her past, and her manipulation of people in the present. This was a quick read that kept me reading. The parts that lost me were with the three friends (Nicole, Allison, and Cassidy). I liked their friendship and for the most part I really liked how they were woven into the story.
