I’ve been a fan of Terry Spear’s werewolves for a long time now. And now she’s added Highland heroes to her repertoire? Highlanders and werewolves. Be still my heart. Needless to say, I’m thrilled!
And this time we also get a hero who’s having financial difficulties, is on the brink of losing the castle that’s been in the family for centuries. Thus, Ian, laird of the MacNeill clan, is doing something he’d never think about otherwise - allowing humans to roam around his den while filming a movie....more

I had high expectations for this book - highlanders plus werewolves equals win! This is the first book I've read by Terry Spears. Even though Heart of a Highland Wolf is the 7th book in the series, it can be read as a stand alone.
Julia is travelling with her friend Maria under the guise of being part of the movie crew. In reality, Julia is a romance writer who writes about Highland wolves. She's been tasked by her grandfather with finding a box that is stashed away in the McNeill castle. Laird I...more

My thoughts:
This story is wonderful blend of contemporary suspense; romance, with just the right mix of paranormal. Terry has a wonderful sense of humor and you can’t help but laugh out loud at some of the situations. The cast of characters is well-drawn and distinct with strong family ties with Ms. Spear’s trademark pack dynamics.
What I love about Terry Spear’s series, especially in this particular story, is this isn’t fantasy. It’s set in the real world and crafted in such a way you feel ther...more

I've just finished reading this on my kindle - do love that I can download in an instant!
Anyway I have read all her shifter books and love them. I was looking forward to this book as we have heard Julia Wildhaven name mentioned in previous books so I was curious to see this sassy women who wrote about werewolf secrets in person.
Maybe it's just me but I felt she was a bit of weak heroine - I wanted more from her. Maybe an argument before hooking up with the Laird, more determination, more heroic...more

(4.5stars) What could be better than an alpha wolf hero? An alpha wolf hero in a kilt - and, even though this is a contemporary, we get multiple hunky 'weres' in kilts. Yum.
I am a shifter fan so I've read all of Spear's werewolf romances, but Heart of the Highland Wolf is my absolute favorite. I like the way that Spear cleverly sets the romance amid a historical movie being filmed at a Scottish castle, so that there are some historical elements mixed in with the contemporary.

What if a Highland warrior of old could fight with swords just like they used to but in modern times and women could ogle all they wanted?
Of course, I’m getting ahead of myself. Those kilted action heroes do their thing in this story and it was exciting and full of daring do, and I got a kick out of how Ms. Spear wrote it with such passion and intensity. It’s what lead up to those well written and high powered few chapters that made it all worthwhile.

Advance Reader's Copy. Thanks Terry :)
This amazing story is about Ian and Julia. They are both Lupus Garou but don't know it yet. Ian is the absolutely sexy Laird of a castle and Julia is a romance author. She writes romance about...you guess it...werewolves! So she is a bit scandalous. Ian wants nothing to do with the Yanks. He just wants to take care of his pack without outsider interference. Due to a bad business investment they are in dire need of money.

Julia Wildthorn is the author of famous werewolf romance books in the U.S. She knows a great deal about the subject due to the fact that she herself is a werewolf. Julia is suffering from a bout of writers block so she decides to go with her best friend to Scotland. Julia's friend, Maria Boquero, who is an assistant director for a film company. Julia decides to travel undercover as Maria's assistant. Julia's family came from Scotland, they lived in the castle where the movie crew is going to be...more

This was a surprisingly delightful read. I don't normally expect much out of this genre, but the plot was actually quite good. I've never read one of Spear's Wolf novels before (and I wasn't at all confused with this one, despite it's being the 7th in the series, as it can be a stand-alone), so I wasn't expecting anything more than the average wolf novel, which is becoming as common as vampire and zombie novels. But this particular novel's setting in a modern, non-fantastical (excepting the were...more
Just when I thought Terry Spear’s Wolf series couldn’t possibly get any better, I read Heart of the Highland Wolf. Sure, all Terry’s wolves are sexy and alpha to the core, but this really wasn’t fair. Be still my wolfen heart….meet Laird Ian MacNeill: Scottish Alpha werewolf in a kilt! Oh and did I mention he’s a quadruplet? Really do I need to go on with the review because personally that would be enough to get me to read it!

Heart of the Highland Wolf is 7th in a series by Terry Spear about werewolves and the second one that I have read. The main character, Julia Wildthorn an author joining a movie company so she could research her next werewolf novel, also has a secret mission. Ian MacNeill, laird of Argent castle is quite reluctant to have this movie company anywhere near his castle. A very enjoyable and easy to read story. A romantic, sexy modern day tale that has men in kilts, a castle, violent wolf packs, lots...more

A nice addition to the series. This series is on the lighter side without being intentionally humorous. But there is no end of the world, no evil magic etc. I enjoy the wolf culture in these books. It doesn't dominate the stories, but it's definitely there. Mostly this story is about two people meeting and falling in love. There are plenty of interesting secondary characters. The plot was nice except the ending mystery was a bit weak but I wasn't reading it for the mystery. There was...more

I accidentally started reading this series out of order but it seems to be acceptable to do that, I've caught on to the storyline despite my mistake as each book is a separate story. This particular book was so interesting not only because of the sexy highlanders but because of the storyline involving the movie filming at the castle and Julia's search for the mysterious item related to her family secret. The owner of the castle, Ian, and his hunky Scottish brothers serve as motivation for any wo...more
This latest installment in the werewolf series is one of my favorites, along with the first book Heart of the Wolf. There is always something fresh and exciting with each new book. I love shifter stories so I'm glad this series hasn't gotten old for me.

Julia, even though a werewolf romance author, has come to Scotland with more than one intention. Julia, has been charged by her grandfather to find a artifact that is hidden within the castle. Even with a hidden agenda, Julia can't resist the magic of the scenery surrounding her, or how much Laird Ian Macneill makes her feel alive, both her human side and her wolf. However Ian is totall Alpha, leader of his people and his den, and doesn't like not being in control. Ian has had to be a leader for...more
I actually wasn't looking forward to reading this book in the series, but im so glad i did.
Julia didn't really impress me from the other books but i have to say once i got to know her i really did like her. I loved how she had hidden motives for wanting to film her movie at the castle, i also really liked that she was willing to trust her family even without all the facts as to the why.

Heart of the Highland Wolf is a fun, light, summer read. Julia Wildthorn is a romance writing werewolf, who just happens to write about werewolves and is suffering from a severe case of writer’s block. She has come to Scotland with her friend Maria for a historical movie shoot at Argent Castle. Ian MacNeill is Laird of Argent Castle and also a werewolf. The premise of the book left me somewhat confused because what the blurb in back says doesn’t match up to what the book is really about. Julia Wildthorn is a Lupus Garous-a werewolf and a romance writer. She comes over to Scotland from America with her friend’s movie production company hiding herself as part of the production crew. Her cover story to her friend is that she wants to write her next romance book about Scottish werewolve...more

Julia is in Scotland with her best friend Maria to do research for her upcoming novel. While Maria and her crew are filming a movie at Laird Ian MacNeill's castle, Julia is doing her own investigating.
Julia finds herself attracted to and intrigued by the laird the minute she lays eyes on his picture. The feeling is mutual for Ian when he first sees Julia.
Although the book opens with a great scene, the overall story was a slow start. I didn't really start to get into the book until around chapter...more

This book is one of the better ones of the series, due in a large part to the craziness that was when Hollywood movies meet a werewolf Highland Laird. It doesn't sound like it would work, but surprisingly it did very well.
We have meet Julia in the past, she writes werewolf romance novels (so funny), and is a red wolf. She finds a way to attach herself to the big movie project going on at Argent Castle. She a secret agenda all of her own. Things start to go bad right from the start and soon she f...more

Julia Wildthorn is a werewolf. She's also a romance author with writer's block. She's accompanying her friend Maria (who's also a werewolf) to Scotland for a movie shoot in the hopes that she'll find inspiration for her next book. After reading her last three books in this series, I had serious high hopes for this book but unfortunately I was let down again. Now come on, highlanders and werewolves, oh yes please! BUT unfortunately not.
I found this book actually pretty corny and full of cover up. Things happened so quickly without any major details and a box stashed away in this supposed highlander castle.. yeahhh..
I don't think I'd read this book ever again.

After reading countless praises for Terry Spear I just had to check out her work. Although the book was slow to take off and I found myself backpedaling after a few "What the..." moments the book did eventually get into a rhythm that caught my attention and held it. I enjoyed the story line, loved the characters enough that I've moved onto another one of her books. The shifter dynamic in this book is different from the usual shifters that I'm used to, but no less entertaining. I recommend this b...more

Had the rogue-ishness of highlanders in Scottland mixed with the amazing TS shifters!
I didn't much like the movie part, but I overlooked it. It brought back memories of being an extra and sitting around doing nothing for long periods & there was no mention of this movie other than the film crew was at the castle & they needed extras...

09/09/2011: This was just ok, for this series. The heroine, Julia had been mentioned in the previous book as an author of romance novels, but wasn't an active character. Ian McNeill, the Highland Laird was never previously mentioned. All of the previous books in the series had characters in common and relationships of some sort that had gone on previously. An exceptionally good read – loved the mystery of Julia’s family lineage. The interaction between Julia and Ian was wonderful, and you can really feel how Ian loves his family, how he tries to overcome the hurt that he was put through that makes him so non-trusting and the blame he feels for the his clan’s financial problems. The description of the land and forest that surrounds the castle was so beautiful and peaceful that you felt you were seeing it.
Had no idea it was a series but I would like to say it so does not matter. The story was good and the main character was nice. The plot was simple but a good kind of simple. I enjoyed the setting and adding werewolf to the classic theme were they fall for a Scott was good. might read more from this author.
this book wasnt so great! there was a heck of a lot of unfinished buisness...like what happened to the movie? what happened with her family? what about maria? this woman really is not a great friend because frequently through out the book she would just leave her friend. she didnt even go to say hi to her b/c she wanted to spend time with her new mate. WTF? even if i got a new mate or whatever i would still take time away from him to say goodbye to my BEST FRIEND WHO WAS LEAVING THE COUNTRY AND...more
