I think that the story could be useful for teaching about colors because each color is vividly portrayed on each page. Moreover, it introduces the concept that the rain plus the sun produce a rainbow. But, I think that the author could have been more creative in describing where Duckie went that represented different colors. She hopped under the orange bridge? I’ve not seen many orange bridges? This is a lovely (and short!) little picture book that can be adapted to little ones. The colors are bright, the duck is cute, and the whole thing opens up into a rainbow!

We got this at the library to help teach colors and my 17-month old asked for "Duckie" all day long.
The pages are different heights so that as you turn each page from red to orange to yellow etc., it builds a rainbow. It's designed for the very young because there are not a lot of words, the focus in on the colors.
We loved it.

Lovely book to use for young story times about color. Duckie strolls through several colorful pages until he comes to a rainbow. Simple, usable, and the book is a cool shape to boot.
