Turn the graduated pages of this unique shaped book to help Duckie find her way home — and you’ll marvel at the dazzling rainbow that appears when she gets there.

Duckie is in a hurry to get home. She walks through a red poppy field, hops under an orange bridge, waddles around a yellow cornfield, rushes past a big green tree, and paddles across a deep blue pond. By the time...more

Comments on the Story:
I think that the story could be useful for teaching about colors because each color is vividly portrayed on each page. Moreover, it introduces the concept that the rain plus the sun produce a rainbow. But, I think that the author could have been more creative in describing where Duckie went that represented different colors. She hopped under the orange bridge? I’ve not seen many orange bridges? Could she not have surfed on an orange peel or something else more creative than...more

Beautiful book that teaches children their colors! The way the book is shaped allows children to see the rainbow forming as each page is turned. I've used it for class visits, themes on colors, rainbows, and most recently, a ducks- and rain-themed bilingual story time program.

Duckie's colorful story ends in a rainbow. Artwork adds a shade of the rainbow after each activity Duckie completes and the final two page spread rewards the reader with a vibrant rainbow.

A good read aloud, especially for a color storytime.

Simple, short picture book that illustrates colors in big, beautiful pages and ends with a rainbow.

Each illustration features shades of a particular color using collage elements.

A short, simple book perfect for teaching colors.

This is a lovely (and short!) little picture book that can be adapted to little ones. The colors are bright, the duck is cute, and the whole thing opens up into a rainbow!

Writing is lacking, but the effect of the layers of color that end up creating the rainbow, in the end, makes up for it.

We got this at the library to help teach colors and my 17-month old asked for "Duckie" all day long.

The pages are different heights so that as you turn each page from red to orange to yellow etc., it builds a rainbow. It's designed for the very young because there are not a lot of words, the focus in on the colors.

We loved it.
Susan
Lovely book to use for young story times about color. Duckie strolls through several colorful pages until he comes to a rainbow. Simple, usable, and the book is a cool shape to boot.
Hilary
Graduated pages make this a tactile as well as a visual learning experience. Pleasing concept-book focusing on color identification.
Rosanna
