Dodie's Review

As a Politically Incorrect book, you know that this is about something you aren't supposed to like, but do anyway. If you don't like forbidden pleasures, or descriptions of something society says you aren't supposed to like – don't read this book.

Hani is an old school powerful alpha male. He's constrained by his society's beliefs of proper behavior, but his Wife is American and is unaware of Hani's society's rules. Shannon is a modern American woman, and is fiercely independent.

Not worth it for the price.

This is part of the "politically incorrect" series put out by Ellora's Cave. I didn't find it particularly shocking even though it featured a couple who marry so the Saudi husband can get a green card. Not bad but not Jaid Black's best.

There's no real substance to this besides the tired romance cliche of powerful sheik and western bride. The conclusion is forced and not believable, and the characters are all flat and pretty fucking annoying, honestly.

I've been foaming at the mouth for a new Jaid Black release and I was a little disappointed in Subjugated. Not to say I didn't enjoy reading this spicy romance but I think I would have liked it more if this book were longer. I didn't feel like I really go to know Shannon and why she married Hani bin Nasser. There didn't seem much emotional development probably due more with the length of the book, but Subjugated is worth buying if you are a Jaid Black fan. I would recommend buying in ebook forma ...more

Major problems with consent and cultural communication in this one. The ending was also terribly abbreviated and abrupt

This is a very short read. And as such, there's only so much space for an author to develop adequate conflict, characterization and emotion. If written right, a book of this length will give the reader a satisfying blend of all three. Subjugated does just that. Sure, I wouldn't have minded if it had been...oh, say...another 100 pages or so :) But it's great having a new Jaid Black book to read, and I'm happy to hear she's writing again!

Jaid, if you're reading this, *please* write the next Vikin

3.5 stars. I love a good culture clash romance when it's done right, and this one did a good job. It kind of read like a Harlequin serial, but still enjoyable.

Intensely sexy and good story. Just way too short. But I still liked it.

“Yeah, that one. What does it mean?”

He was quiet for so long she had started to think he’d never answer. “There is no English translation for this name,” he finally said.

She smiled. “Try. Get as close as you can.”

His dark eyes searched her gaze. “It means, my life.”

Her forehead wrinkled. “My life?”

Hani pulled her head down and forced her to rest against his chest. He said nothing for a suspended moment and then, “My life,” he murmured. “My love.”
“Do you really love me?”

“Do you promise?”

“Pinky swear?”

“Pinky swear?” She chuckled. “Where on earth did you learn that?”

“From TV. Now do it. Give me your pinky swear, hayati.”
