All right! It has been a while since my last volume of Fruits Basket, and I was a little worried I wouldn’t be able to get back into the swing of things, but apparently reading trashy shoujo manga is just like riding a bike!

So we leap right into the plot, with Haru all in a tizzy because his girlfriend—who had been horribly injured, presumably because Akito beat the shit out of her—dumped him. He doesn’t know how to handle his emotions, so he destroyed a classroom and then tried to kill Kyo. As...more

Why is Fruits Basket so freaking awesome? There's really nothing for me to complain about the series (except for Akito but you already knew that). I will say this, however... THERE'S SO MANY CHARACTERS TO LOVE!!! That's right, we got to meet the monkey in this one (and a little sneak peek of the horse... is that a spoiler? O_o). Seriously, I couldn't have read this book at a better time. Some of the manga was showing how the characters were reflecting on their lives... thinking about their futures and what they want to do and not knowing what they want to do. I'm going through a very similar situation and it's not fun. I undertsand what it's like being lost and having no clue where you're going to go... I think everyone does at some point. But for others, it's much easier to choose a path and for others, myself included, not so much. I know I say this a lot about this manga but I related so easily to what the characters were going through. It's such a great feeling being able to fully understand what's happening in the story. It was a nice touch Takaya-sensei added to it. I love her ability to mix real life with the fantastical. It's... overwhelming but at the same time... wonderful. Thank you, Takaya-sensei. I now know that I should just take it easy. Start with the laundry that's at my feet first, then look forward. (I also had a chat with my friend that helped me realize this as well so... thank you. You know who you are! ^_^)

Dude, where should I begin with the characters!? So many awesome things happened! We start off with Haru kicking ass because he wants his girl, Ritsu being entertaining, Hatori being adorable, everyone feeling anxiety, Ayame being (for once) really cool, and the DUNDUNDUN moment of Rin! And all this time Tohru was being supportive and funny as hell! (The way she walked into that wall was just too hilarious!) I love this girl. I don't know how she manages to be cute but not stupid but... she does it! Kyo was.... *SQUEES!!!* That was such a cute laugh/smile! When he and Tohru got into a conversation about their future, it was so relieving seeing how he laughed. *Sighs* Made me want to do the same (and I did!). Yuki was so... so... so not arrogant in this volume. Well, perhaps a little but it was more durable. Seeing how he acted with his brother, Ayame, was very nice. I was shocked that he was able to finally grow a little. It was annoying seeing him push Ayame away so much. I felt that they finally got closer in this volume.

Ayame is the best brother ever! Um... if you forget the fact that he's persistent as hell! No, really. He was... how should I say this... he surprised me as well. There was a moment in the volume where he talks about that no one is ever truly alone. Himself included. But that person he was hinting at... it made me smile. I was truly happy. I know there's more to him and I can't wait to find out (I know. I can't believe I want to know more about the Snake, either). He truly is beautiful. Ritsu! Oh, that ma--wo--person is so awesome! He's just like his mother! Okami-san was over-dramatic in that everything used to make her freak out. Ritsu... is no exception. Just like his mother! It's a little sad that he feels he's not worth much but I do think he will come to like himself in due time. And a certain someone is going to help~ I'm not going to name names but... she's a bit dramatic like he is. XD Last thing I'm going to talk about (because I'm running a little too much at the keyboard I might get a bit too carried away) is how we got to see a little bit of Rin. She's not only pretty but sexy! And kickass! And badass! All those things! You need to continue reading just so you can see this amazing character in action!

Okay! That's it! I'm done! No more ranting for me. I think this one got somewhat spoilery but it's nothing too major. Just enough to peak your interests~ Man, how in the world did I come to love this manga so much!? It's so shoujo-y that I'm like, "Where did I go wrong!?" However, it's not like other shoujo stuff so maybe... that's it? In any case, I really think this is one of the great ones! So much relation to real life and kickass characters! It's almost difficult not to fall in love with this series. And maybe I'm a bit of a sucker when it comes to sexy guys... what!? The Sohmas ARE hot, okay!? ...I happen to be a girl into the whole superficial. Leave me alone! Anyway, that really is enough from me! Go. Read. Now. Enjoy! Alright! I have finally been able to read the eighth volume of the fantastic “Fruits Basket” series by Natsuki Takaya and I really enjoyed this volume! This time, in this volume, Tohru, Yuki, Kyo and Momiji discovered that Haru has gone “black” and he ends up tearing the classroom apart. It turns out that Haru had just broken up with his girlfriend and it is up to Yuki to intervene. Meanwhile, Tohru meets another new member of the zodiac who is called Ritsu and apparently she discovers that Rits...more Alright! I have finally been able to read the eighth volume of the fantastic “Fruits Basket” series by Natsuki Takaya and I really enjoyed this volume! This series just keeps on getting better and better every time I read about what happens to each character! This volume is a whole lot lighter than the last volume as there are rarely any heartbreaking scenes (well maybe except for Haru’s breakup with his girlfriend, but that part of the story is extremely brief). I will admit that I get really excited whenever Haru gets extremely angry or as described by everyone else, turns “black” because it makes the story so much more interesting and I was actually surprised to know that Haru actually has a girlfriend that he cares about. I also loved the introduction of Ritsu because he is such an interesting character and the way that he just starts panicking out loud about what he did wrong was pure comic relief for the story and even though I think that Ritsu should calm down just a little bit when he gets into his panicked stage, I cannot help but laugh at his fits of panic! I also think that this volume is the turning point in Yuki and Ayame’s relationship with each other as it was apparent in the earlier volumes that Ayame and Yuki did not get along at all, but I loved how they were trying to understand each other in this volume and how they wanted to bond with each other.

This review was a little short, but I did not really have a problem with this volume since it is so lighthearted and the characters were truly enjoyable in this volume and now I am still looking forward to reading more about these characters in the “Fruits Basket” series!

Now we're talking! I prefer the volumes that focus on the main plot of this series, the Sohma family and all their secrets. I cannot wait to find out more about what's troubling Hatsuharu. I've loved Haru since he first showed up in this manga. He's such a little badass. He's so angsty I feel like I need to give him a hug and tell him everything will be fine. If you are a Haru fan then this is your volume! Haru has gone black and torn his class room apart and the gang is trying to find out why. Yuki finally gets to the bottom of what is eating at Haru and it of course involves Akito in some way. I love Haru’s character and getting to see any of him is fun:)

This volume features my two favorite FB characters, Ayame and Ristu. It's ironic that my favorite characters are the most confident and least confident characters in the series.

This is actually Ristu's first appearance. Ritsu is the son of the onsen owner Tohru met earlier, and is just as much of a nervous wreck. Ok Volume 8 seemed to really be full of short adventures-

-Haru destroys a classroom because his girlfriend broke up with him. Had something to do with Akito beating her up, but not much is made clear...
-Ritchan is introduced- the monkey zodiac- he has some serious issues with himself and blames himself for everything. Tohru talks to him- as she does- and seems to solve some of his problems.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS SERIES!!!It's about a poor girl (Tohru) Gets taken in by the Sohma family. which the Sohma family has vengeful Chinese zodiac animal posses they Sohma family. As it happens, Tohru goes to school with Yuki Sohma, who is known as the Prince, because of how fucking hot he is. Yuki and his cousin Shigure take pity on Tohru and invite her to live with them in exchange for doing the cleaning and cooking for them. Soon, Tohru learns that the Sohmas are hiding a terrible secret...they turn into cute animal versions of the zodiac if they are hugged by a member of the opposite sex that isn't also a Sohma. Things just get crazier when she meets more of the family.

Fruits Basket is the best kind of romance series, the kind with lots of crushes, but nothing overt, and interesting relationships (not necessarily the romantic kind). Take, for instance, when Kyo Sohma shows up. As I mentioned in the summary, the Sohmas all turn into cute versions of the zodiac when hugged by a member of the opposite sex. Yuki is the rat, Shigure is the dog, and Kyo is the cat. You may be thinking that there is no cat in the zodiac, and you would be right. However, there is a legend that says the cat would have would have been in the zodiac, if it had not been tricked by the rat into missing the induction feast. As a result, Kyo hates Yuki, and constantly tries to fight him. Unfortunately, for Kyo, he can't even land a decent hit on Yuki, let alone beat him up.

It's easy to love this series. The back story on the various members of the Sohma family is interesting (why does Kyo hate Yuki so much?) and trying to figure out which member of the zodiac new characters are is lots of fun (I love the Dragon's zodiac form). If you're looking for something light and fun to read, Fruits Basket is a good choice. Beware though, the series is 23 volumes long!

I think this is about where the series pacing starts flagging. We get some early hints of Rin, as well as the introduction of the hilarious Ritsu and some great stuff between Ayame and Yuki, but the horror house story feels like filler (even though Haru is great in it). There's also a lot of build up for the summer and what it will mean for the characters, but there's not a lot of explanation of why this foreboding should be happening right now.

Hahahaha, je crois que je n'ai encore jamais autant ri que pendant l'heure qui a précédé l'écriture de cette review. Ce huitième est bien drôle, surtout lors des passages avec Ayamé et Rutsi ! XD On ne sait pas lequel des personnages est le pire, le plus drôle, le plus bête.. Haha, je retiendrais ce tome pour les jours où je serais complètement déprimée pour qu'il me remet de bonne humeur à la fin de sa (re-)lecture ! :D

I thought it was awesome! Haru looks great on the cover and it was all-in-all a good book!
I especially liked the bits with Hiro/Kisa...they are so CUTE!!!!

In this installment, Haru goes black destroying a classroom, we are introduced to another member of the Zodiac, Ritsu, who is a man but dresses as a woman for comfort. Ayame tries to bond with Yuki yet again, but gets no where, and then the Sohmas and Tohru are excited for break. I think the next installment with another some questions because I really want to know more about Rin.

- I've stopped reading the author's notes. They are just a distraction and slow down my reading.

- Ritchan is SO dramatic, and I totally thought it was a girl! He was also super depressing! Jeez!

- Ritchan + Shigure's editor = crazy annoying spazes!

- I thought Haru was gay? Apparently not! Maybe he is bi?

- I'm dying to know more about Yuki's past!! We only get snippets and hints! I want more!

- This issue ended with a bit of a mystery! Ooooooooooooo!

This one seemed like more of a bridge between stories--we learn a little more about Haru, Ritsu the Monkey is introduced, and we get a glimpse of Rin. Neither Yuki nor Kyo wants to admit his feelings for Tohru, but it's becoming more obvious. And could Aya be getting closer to his brother? We'll have to wait and see.

I like that we get to meet a new Sohma every volume. There are so many characters that it would be overwhelming, so the fact that she eases us into such a large family is a really good move on her part. I also like the pacing of the series- it’s paced pretty evenly, and the plot moves along pretty well.

There’s the requisite fan art at the end, plus we have 2 pages devoted to 2 different years of the zodiac. One page covers the year of the dragon, and the other page is about the year of the ox. A...more

a lengthy volume with not a lot happening...

as the end of the year approaches, tohru, yuki, kyo, and momiji become pensive about the future. hatsuharu goes black and busts up a classroom, but the reason why is quite intriguing. then the lovely ritsu (monkey) shows up in a kimono and shocks tohru with a shocking surprise, as well as screeching a lot.
