I do really enjoy this author's work. I particularly like that the heroines are strong women with careers and can make the right decisions irregardless of their feelings for the heroes. Phoebe and Jed have a passionate history, but everything went awry 5 years ago. They accidentally meet again at a Ball and Jed realizes how much he missed Phoebe and wants her back in his life. However, Phoebe has some BIG secrets to keep from Jed. I liked how these two worked their way back to each other. There...more

The story begins with the heroine Phoebe eagerly waiting for the hero Jed to return after his recent business trip. Phoebe has just discovered she is pregnant and although it wasn't planned she is really happy about it. However Jed's reaction is far from pleased, and Phoebe is left heart-broken when their relationship crumbles and she miscarries. Five years later Jed is surprised to see Phoebe again at function, she is looking well and he wants to talk to her. But her skittishness around him aro...more

This was a 3 to 3.5 read. There were parts of it I liked and others I didn't.

The hero wasn't a bad guy. The back of the book makes him sound pretty callous but it is far from true. He was definitely shocked about the pregnancy but never at any time did he think about dumping the heroine. He was willing to marry her but misunderstandings of course led to the drama in the book.

Phoebe had her reasons for keeping her pregnancy from Jed. She actually thought (view spoiler)...more

Wealthy Jed Sabbides wined and dined Phoebe Brown and finally claimed her for his own. Innocent Phoebe was in love with him and absolutely delighted to tell him that she was carrying his child. Unfortunately, her revelation struck Jed at a bad time. Was he ready to settle down just yet? Was he ready to be a parent like his own father?

Phoebe was crushed by Jed’s lackluster response and tearfully fled. The despondent mother unfortunately suffered an accident terminating the pregnancy and Phoebe B...more

Pretty decent story. The secret baby theme had a slightly different take here. One of the things I liked is that when the hero finds out he doesn't immediately tell her that she has to marry him or he will take the boy away. He acknowledges that it is unlikely that the courts will give him custody even though he is much richer than the heroine. One of the things that annoyed me is that it took him so long to realize that he loved her. He kept telling himself that he wanted his son and was going...more

Review by Cassandra from Book Talk

Young and naive Phoebe Brown was working through school when she met and fell for the gorgeous Jed Sabbides. He wined, dined, and bedded her with such passion that she felt cherished. When Phoebe announces she is pregnant, Jed is appalled. Didn't Phoebe understand she was just a passing fancy? A pleasing distraction from his life? Unfortunately, Phoebe lost the man who had stolen her heart and her baby. Years later, after a chance run in, Jed is astounded to dis...more

More like 3.5 stars

Jed Sabbides and Phoebe Brown had been together for a bit. He really treated her as just a mistress, but she thought they were more than that. She “accidentally” gets pregnant, Jed thinks it’s on purpose and makes some statements that Phoebe interprets differently than he had intended.

Phoebe accidentally takes care of Jed’s problem, he shows up to be there for her and feels as though it is his fault. Jed still has plans to deal w/ for the weekend but he doesn’t want to leave...more

I don't usually read Harlequin-type books and downloaded this from somewhere on my Kobo for free.

This story was really bad. Phoebe is beyond "naive" ... she's a doormat. Jed is a huge A-hole and treats her so coldly yet she adores him.

When she tells him that she is pregnant, she expects him to be as deliriously happy as she is. But he's not (what a surprise!). She loses the baby later that day and as a result of some misunderstandings (again, what a surprise!), she disappears out of his life ......more

Okay, this was a book I would normally rate two stars. But I have to give props. There was one moment in particular that could have been beyond rapey. I was starting to cringe during the scene...when the hero basically stops and says he won't do more without consent. Dude. Wow. I was pleasantly surprised.
So, aside from that awesomeness, this book was okay. Pretty typical for the genre. Y'know

Phoebe couldn't wait until Jed's return, so she can share her excited news to the man she loved, that she was pregnant. But Jed doesn't take to the news like she thought he would and what turned out to be the great news for her, turned out to be the worst news for him. After a terrible blow to Phoebe when he told her she was nothing more than a mistress and the confrontation of the truth of their relationship, Phoebe is left in a sadden state. After that an a accident occurs and she loses her b...more

Okay. I finished reading this book late last night/early in the morning, and immediately realized that if I was going to be telling everyone about this book anyway, I might as well put it in a review.
Because, oh...this book...

the book was actually really gud ! jed was not dat bad, just he did not love phoebe or at least he did not realise he love her. he had wronged her so much in the 1st part! he took advantage of an innocent lil virgin still very young, 20yrs old. she told him often dat she love him. she was a carefree, fun-loving girl, wid a tender heart. jed destroyed dat, destroyed her. yes, i no she misunderstood him but it was very easy to becoz he was abominable on dat fateful morning ! it's not as if he cud...more

Typically I enjoy a Harlequin story that features a Greek tycoon, but at one point I seriously doubted that I would finish this one. I just never warmed to the main characters. Phoebe had so little backbone where Jed was concerned that I found her incredibly irritating and I had trouble generating even the tiniest bit of empathy for her. Jed was such an arrogant, manipulative S.O.B that even after he came to terms with his feelings for Phoebe he continued to piss me off. This story had all the s...more

When the heroine told the hero she was pregnant, he said that it wasn't suppose to happen, he didn't want a child and that his mistress wasn't suppose to provide him one. The heroine didn't know that she was his mistress, she thought she was his girlfriend and was devastated. A day after the hero left, the heroine tripped and fell losing the baby. More drama ensued and the heroine left. Years later they run into each other again and the heroine has a child hat looks exactly like the hero, yet th...more

Not sure if I like his control freakishness or her being such a push over but...

Phoebe Brown believes after one year with Jed Sabbides they’re dating... she loves him and is sure he feels the same. So when she tells him she’s pregnant she expects him to be happy…he informs her mistresses aren’t suppose to get pregnant unless she was trying to trap him. Offended & hurt, Jed, is the only man she’s ever been with; her reality is shattered. Then, she miscarries. Which she assumes fits Jed’s life...more

Very good read, liked Phoebe very much though Jeb was jerk at moments but he was a good man, actually liked the fact Phoebe grew strong and became independent after the way Jeb treated her, also liked the fact she took all the gifts and car that Jeb gave her.Inspite of misunderstandings their love wins and they do manage to get their HEA.Overall i enjoyed this secret baby story.

Recommend it.

There was something about the writing style that made the book feel so unnatural... I didn't even get into any of the love scenes... Or ANY scene in particular. The way they spoke to each other seemed too formal... I don't know, there was just something off about it.
Diane
i re-read this book as it was mentioned in one of the amazon fora that i frequent. the hero is still a jerk, the heroine still gives in too easily, and it has both the big misunderstanding AND the secret baby!
Nicole
Can't say why but this is a keeper for me. Perhaps because the hero is not mean and there is still enough drama? The big misunderstanding is believable and it's a good story. This was my second read and still a 5 stars.

SABBIDES SECRET BABY!

Naive Phoebe Brown fell for Mediterranean magnate Jed Sabbides after he wined, dined and bedded her with a fervor that made her feel cherished. But when Phoebe happily announced she was pregnant, Jed was appalled. Didn't she understand—she was only a pleasing distraction? Sadly Phoebe lost the man she loved, and her baby….
So it is with disbelief that, years later, Jed discovers Phoebe has a little boy…who looks just like him!

Great story -) love Ms. Baird! When Phoebe announc...more

I give this book 1.5 stars. Jed is A$$HOLE with a capital A, and Phoebe is an IDIOT with a capital I. After the things that Jed did and said to her, if she had an ounce of dignity, she would have never spoken to him again. She hasn't seen him in 5 years and within the week, she fall into bed with him and allows him to push him around like she is garbage.

Then they try to save the book by having Jed confess his undying love for her. If he really loved her he would have sought her out years prior....more

phoebe is such a doormat and jed is too arrogant for my taste.

The heroine made me a bit angry with her "I'm a martyr" attitude plus keeping a child a secret for five years is unforgivable as far as I'm concerned. She bugged me and the hero deserved better. Still this was a touching story, and I read it in one sitting. It was impossible for me to put it down. Seems like this author can never be boring I'll give her that!

This book was disappointing compared to the other romances I've read lately.
