Quick Take:
This book is pure fun. The characters were perhaps the most enjoyable aspect, with protagonist Dulcie being the main draw. Intriguing but tempered world building whet my appetite enough to want to see what's to follow in the series.

One of the first things that struck me whilst reading this book was the general "vibe." The tone of this piece was very…comfortable, and the first-person narration had a light, conversational style. For a book that focuses primarily on supes and unnatural e...more

In this first of the Dulcie O'Neil series, Mallory has created a world populated with witches, warlocks, fairies, demons, vampires, werewolves, elves, hobgoblins, ogres, leprechauns, pixies, gremlins, loki and more who all "came out" into the public to the humans fifty years ago. Now a creature is killing illegal potions dealers in the city of Splendor, CA.

This is a humorous paranormal fantasy romance story filled with action and a betrayal which reminds me a little of MaryJanice Davidson's styl...more

To Kill a Warlock is book 1 in HP Mallory’s urban fantasy series, the Dulcie O’Neill Series. Dulcie is a fairy and a Regulator, a person who polices creatures from the Netherworld. Fairies are not very common in this book, so Dulcie is automatically special. On the side of her regulator job, Dulcie is an aspiring romance novelist. Her romance novels are based on characters in her life, and they provide an entertaining and amusing side story. I really loved Dulcie’s character, she is spunky, she...more

Dulcie is a Fairy who works as a regulator monitoring creatures of the netherworld. Her world is one of demons, monsters, witches and warlocks. When a monster turns up on her patch, tearing people she knows to pieces, she finds herself hunting a creature that kills for fun.

Helping her is a mysterious regulator who might or might not be on her side.

To Kill a Warlock never quite clicks. There are some good moments in it but the good in this book doesn't add up to a good book.

A new brand of urban fantasy!!!

Dulcie O'Neil is a kick-ass fairy who works for law-enforcement as a Netherworld Regulator by day in protecting the human population from Netherworld creatures, and an inspiring romance writer at night. When she's singled out as a suspect in a warlock's murder, Dulcie must put in some overtime to work to clear her name. The Netherworld has sent their own investigator, Knight Vander, to partner up with Dulcie and solve the case before another murder takes place. Use...more

To Kill a Warlock is a light and humorous paranormal romance/urban fantasy about a fairy named Dulcie O'Neil and her adventures as a regulator (law enforcement) for Netherworld creatures and an aspiring romance writer.

This is the first book in the Dulcie O'Neil series by H. P. Mallory. I got a copy of this ebook from the author in exchange for an honest review. I really enjoyed it! While not the most creative paranormal series I've ever read; this series was light-hearted, fun and very well written. Think of it as a mash-up of Kim Harrison's Rachel Morgan series, Charlaine Harris's Sookie Stackhouse series, and Molly Harper's Jane Jameson series. You got the fairies and the Netherworld, a murder mystery, and...more

Watch out! HP Mallory has come gins ablaze in the UF scene. To Kill a Warlock has all the great elements of Urban Fantasy with a touch of something extra. Humor, sexiness, danger and mystique.

Dulcie is a Fairy who works as a Regulator. She is police to all the otherworldly creatures from the Netherworld. As you can imagine the job is no walk along the beach when some warlock can cast nasty spells on you. But Dulcie has her own magic and smarts to get her through a days work.

I'm still fairly new to the urban fantasy genre, and I am still avoiding paranormal romance (maybe I should make a post about that sometime) so when I received a review request from HP Mallory for her books, I was kind of hesitant to accept it. But I'm not really one to say no to free books, so I thought, why not?

I finally found the time to read To Kill a Warlock when we started moving a week ago. I figured after reading about zombies, I need to take a break from t...more

Dulcie O'Neil is a fairy that works as a Regulator. They are the policemen and women of the Netherworld. A warlock known for selling illegal potions has just been found murdered and Dulcie was the last one to see him alive. Dulcie is now on a mission to find out who the killer is before she ends up the next victim. Dulcie will not be alone on the investigation. Knightley Vander (awesome name right?) is a investigator sent from the Netherworld to track down the killer and work with Dulci...more

To Kill a Warlock is about a fairy investigator with a paranormal investigative agency in California. In H.P. Mallory's world the creatures of myth and magic have been out of the proverbial closet for the last 50 years and are now integrating with humanity. I enjoyed the fact that the main character isn't your typical vamp/fae/witch/were that is seen in a number of current urban fantasy books but I found the character developement a little lacking.
The author introduces us to the main character...more

After reading H.P. Mallory's Jolie Wilkins series (which is amazing), I started on this book and I loved it !
It has the same fresh, witty writing style as the Jolie Wilkins series.

I love the world that H.P. Mallory has created for the Dulcie O'Neil series. Fairies, elves, pixies, witches, warlocks, vampires, demons, goblins and all sorts of other creatures come from Netherworld, a dimension parallell to our world. 50 years ago the Netherworld creatures outed themselves and have been living among...more

My first brush with H.P Mallory came with the books written around another character, Jolie Wilkins, which I utterly adored. Like the first book of THAT series, I picked up To Kill A Warlock for free on Amazon. When I saw it there on promtion sale, I immediately downloaded it and dove in, hoping for more of the same excellent work.

Firstly, let me say I love H.P's humor and writing style. Her books are easy to get into, catch you right away. It's hard to put down her books once the plot begins t...more

I had just finished reading a rather long, intense, epic science fiction book and wanted a break. I needed something with a decent story, a fun main character, and something that was actually released as all my other fall back book series where currently between books. I then stumbled upon the first Dulcie O'Neil book. I had some issues with the author's writing style (too much internal dialog and not enough plot depth) but over all found this first book in the series a fun, light read.

To Kill a Warlock is a hilarious read that is pure enjoyment.

Dulcie is a fun character. She's spunky, quirky and really wants to be a romance writer...oh and she's also a fairy. Dulcie is somehow corralled into working with this gorgeous stranger to catch a murder, and her life gets flipped upside down in the process. While the situation may not be ideal, Dulcie is the type of character to do what is needed of her, even if it means red leather, and black feathers. I did real...more

After reading her amazing book "Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble" I decided I had to read To Kill a Warlock and it did not disappoint! Just as enticing as her first work, To Kill a Warlock left me wanting more and not wanting to put down the book. She does an amazing job of pulling the reader into the world and letting the characters take the reader on the journey with them.

This was a really fun book, not the best I've ever read, but quick and entertaining.

The book follows Dulcie a paranormal regulator. When we first meet Dulcie she ends up being spelled by a warlock, which leads to an investigation into the Warlocks death. Through out the investigation we meet an entertaining and eclectic group of supporting characters who all assist and hinder the investigation in some way..

I am interested in seeing more of Dulce's world. While I get there is magic and different...more

If you looking for a fun, fast paced urban fantasy with out any pretense or deep character drama, then this is the book for you!

To Kill a warlock is the first installment in the Dulcie O’Neil series. This book reminded me of (dare I compare?) the Sookie Stackhouse novels. However, and here’s my caveat; it’s cleaned up in the bedroom department and laced with a bit more humor.

The main character, protagonist and first person POV is Dulcie O’Neil. She is a likable, saucy gal with a great sense of...more

I really did enjoy this book, but there was also parts in this book that I didn't like. i love that there was romance, back stabbing, and a lot of laughs. i also like that there was a bunch of different paranormal creatures not just the typical vamp and werewolf.

Dulcie, our heroine, is a fairy. GASP! i was super excited about this! But no matter what I thought or what you will think I assure you she is not a typical fairy. She works for the Association of Netherworld Creatures (ANC), which enfor...more

I have to admit, the cover is cute and all, but I’m thoroughly confused. Some covers have a blonde woman, while others have a brunette. I also tried to look back through the book to see if Dulcie’s hair color is mentioned, and I can’t seem to find anywhere that specifically states hair color. Also, all of the subsequent book covers in this series have a blonde woman on the front. Am I crazy? Did I miss something? It’s nothing major, but still.

Aside from that, To Kill a Warlock is the first book...more

To Kill a Warlock introduces Dulcie and her friends/coworkers. She is short, spunky, and good at her job. She also draws the lascivious attention of a number men, all of whom have their own appeal. You can't help but appreciate her brazen disregard of their attention and feelings. She can be downright cruel at times, not that anyone seems to mind. I have to say I enjoyed her as a character. She didn't let her hormones distract her from the task at hand. Though Knight, Bram and Quill, and even Da...more

As a huge fan of Mallory's Jolie Wilkins series, I picked this book up via Amazon while it was free. While I liked the book well enough, I like the other series better so far-- even though I can't quite put my finger on it.

The main character, Dulcie, is an Enforcer or something for the paranormal board (over all other-worldy creatures) but for someone who is supposed to be tough, she spends a lot of the book hiding behind the protection of her friends and coworkers. In the final scenes, where s...more

To Kill a Warlock is the first book in H.P. Mallory's Dulcie O'Neill series. Dulcie is a fairy but she isn't your typical mischievous, sparkling, dust sprinkling imp that we are all familiar with. She's a law enforcement officer with the Association of Netherworld Creatures - a Regulator - charged with protecting her city of Netherworld beings and apprehending citizens who involve themselves with illegal activities. She is also a budding romance novelist.

Dulcie becomes a suspect when a warlock i...more

I thought this book was a cute, light read. It's not a paranormal romance like I was expecting, although there are a ridiculous number of potential love interests. I would describe the book as a fluffy urban fantasy.

I really liked Dulcie and the fact that she was a fairy and not your typical kick-ass vampire or werewolf. She was really quirky and I found myself laughing out loud during several scenes. I also liked the unique world building.

I just recently discovered H.P. Mallory so my regular blog visitors are going to have to forgive me for the sudden influx of her books on my blog. These books are quick, fun reads and I’m hooked. Sorry ;) To Kill a Warlock is the first book in her Dulcie O’Neil Series and although I think I like the Jolie Wilkins Series better, it’s a close call.

Goge (BARRONS) le Moning Maniac,
I almost always begin with my mouthy complaints.

The ending: 1-2 stars
The characters: 4-4.5 stars
The chapters before the ending: 3.5-4.5 stars
The title: wtf? How annoyingly misleading. 1 star
Events, some were very haphazard. Dislike.
Upset with the villain
Unsatisfied with the physical fights
Full potential of romance story not explored.
Just because paranormal is in you're going to throw away your historical, hard work, interest, belief? That's fucked. I dislike.

This was suggested by a discussion board on Goodreads: http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/6... and proved to be an excellent suggestion. It's always nice to be introduced to new authors and find a book series you can really get your teeth into.
