A long book, so if you want a sit down and cuddle under a blanket all day kind of read, this is it.

There's a lot that goes on in the book. I LOVE the way her and Max met. Those first 30 pages were the most riveting and sweet of the whole book in my eyes. Except for the last 4 pages. GAH! Nancy! What a cliffhanger. I have to pick up book two now, and I hope, seriously hope, that you don't break my heart, Nancy. Max better hop the first fighter jet out of there! lol

Meeting Destiny was totally not what I expected. From reading the description, I prepared for an easy young adult read with a paranormal bite. Instead, what I got was a wonderfully written realistic story about a girl named Lauren who has an extremely keen sense of intuition.

Instead, what I got was a wonderfully written realistic story about a girl named Lauren who has an extremely keen sense of intuition.

The story reads like half realistic romance and half thriller, there were some parts of it that had me on edge. The start of the story reaches out and draws you in with full-blown action. Lauren is working a restaurant when she feels an acute sense of danger about a man, and quickly acts in getting a child and her friend to safely. The man turns out to be an armed robber, and she gets shot in the leg, and that is where she encounters Max, a paramedic who she has been dreaming about for years.

What followed on from here was the unravelling of Lauren's relationship with her best friend, Seth. She handles this while trying to find out more about Max. What struck me about the writing from the very start was how detail-enriched it was. From the doctor's visit, to the injury, to the events that follow, the writer does not skip a beat or brush over the details. That's why I found it to be very realistic as opposed to paranormal. Lauren's abilities are not paranormal; she just has a very strong intuition which leads her to avoid some very hairy situations.

Some parts of the book dragged unnecessarily, particularly the start when Lauren was in the hospital after the injury. Nearly halfway through she finally gets out and the relationship progresses with Max, and that's where things turn exciting. She's had a dream about him for years, where he came to her and said he was her Destiny, and she needs to find out how to communicate this to him.

This self-published work is very impressive, with better writing than a lot of published books out there. The characters are very real, complex, and likeable. Their emotions are wrung out, and heart-wrenching at times. The twists and turns that follow are very unexpected, and you're left with a sudden jolt of an ending.

I am really impressed with this book, but think it should not be marketed as more of a contemporary romance/thriller rather than a paranormal YA title. It has more of an adult flavour to it (although nothing explicit) and I think it will definitely appeal to a wide range of readers. Glad this is a series!

When I first started reading this story I couldn’t figure out whether it was YA, Paranormal, Fantasy, or Romance. It actually ended up being an interesting and well written amalgamation of all four genres.

My feelings for this book are all over the place. The book started off great. From page one we are brought right into the action. Our main character, Lauren, works at a fast food joint, and she has always felt she is able to feel things, and get warnings of danger which can help her prevent bad things from happening. She's also had dreams in which a stranger visits her and claims he is her destiny.

Her love life is non-existent. She's caught in relationship with a friend, Seth, that she has known she was a child, but never really felt sparks with. She soon meets Max, and finally realizes what she has been missing out on all of these years when she feels the chemistry for him.

The story starts out feeling like a romantic drama, and about halfway it feels like a totally new book. The story turns into more of a mystery, and it confused me, because I was no longer sure of what the point of this story was. It seems like Lauren has a hero complex, but are we supposed to really care about her journey to save an innocent guy that she just met? I didn't even really mind reading about this, but it wasn't nearly as thrilling as the beginning or end of the book. This is the reason I am rating the book 3.5 stars, actually. Was the main theme of this story Lauren and Max's romance, their destiny and what they are supposed to be together for, Lauren's need to help everyone out of tough situations?? Meanwhile, also trying to hook up Seth with his chick he's supposed to be with. Then throw in a little murder mystery about a couple that was never even mentioned in the book until their deaths. I don't know it seemed like just too many things to care about in such a quick book.

The story started off so well, and it ended with a bang. It is definitely an ending that makes you want to read the next book asap, but sadly I almost didn't get to the ending. I feel like the story lost focus in the middle somewhere, and it did drag on a bit. Had the story not been such a short, quick read for me I doubt I would have gotten to the ending, and that makes me sad. The ending was amazing.

As far as characters go I really enjoyed both Lauren and Max. Both of them were completely honest, and fun to read about. They both called each other out on things they did wrong which I found refreshing. I am sick of reading about couples that become so obsessed with each other within three seconds and just go along with everything. This is something I think that usually happens much more in the teen stories, though, so I feel like the characters were well written as 20-somethings.

The series has potential that's for sure. I am not sure if I will be purchasing the rest of the series, but I am considering it, which is a good sign.

3.5/5 Stars Paranormal romance, and fantasy lovers alike will probably enjoy this book. It is an entertaining read, and I just hope that if I continue this series the books will be great all the way through. I want to love the whole book as much as I enjoyed the beginning and ending of this book.

I have to say that this cover is beautiful and had me wanting to read it as soon as I saw it! I was hooked from the first page. I was expecting a young adult book but this honestly has a mature flavor to it which I found appealing. It is a unique story and I was really drawn to the heroine. She has a strong presence throughout and with so many twists and unexpected events I could not put it down.

I love books revolving around fate and destiny, so when I was asked to be a part of the blog tour for a book called Meeting Destiny, how could I refuse? After actually reading the book, I know I couldn't have made a better decision...I was destined to read Ms. Straight's novel...so to speak.

Lauren is a young lady who works in a diner and is month's away from graduating from college. She's comfortable in her present life with a boyfriend she's known all her life and a great best friend. Who knew...more I love books revolving around fate and destiny, so when I was asked to be a part of the blog tour for a book called Meeting Destiny, how could I refuse? After actually reading the book, I know I couldn't have made a better decision...I was destined to read Ms. Straight's novel...so to speak.

Lauren is a young lady who works in a diner and is month's away from graduating from college. She's comfortable in her present life with a boyfriend she's known all her life and a great best friend. Who knew everything would change for her in the span of a single shift at the diner? Honestly... Lauren has suspicions that she is meant for something bigger. She'd been having dreams about her destiny for several years. It wasn't until a frightening incident during a shift at the diner, that she realized her life was tied to a green-eyed paramedic.

Now...many people will say there is an "insta-love" in Meeting Destiny and there is. But...what would you expect from a book about destiny? At first, I thought Lauren might have seemed a little pushy but truly, she was the one who understood her mission, and she had to make Max understand his. She accepted what needed to be done and refused to deviate from her path. Convincing Max to believe and trust in her is only part of the many tasks she must accomplish.

Several things about this novel stood out to me in ways others don't. First...Ms. Straight added action into the romance. Lauren, though some might find it annoying, was unwaveringly true to her path and herself. I don't want to lead you to believe that everything comes easy to Lauren, because that would be far, far from the truth. Lauren visibly struggles in her relationship with both Max and Seth. She finds her "sixth sense" difficult to explain to others, even those closest to her. But...throughout it all she remained strong and relentless.

I read Meeting Destiny in one sitting, taking only a couple of hours. It's a quick read that sucks you in from the first page and keeps you engaged until the very last sentence. And, well...there's a cliffhanger that will make you run on over to your bookstore of choice and download Destiny's Revenge and Destiny's Wrath, just like I did.

All I can think about at this moment is the shocking ending and that I need to get a hold of the second book now! Nancy Straight wove an incredible paranormal love story about a girl and a boy whose paths cross and are meant to be intertwined. The suspense found throughout the story, the thrilling murder investigation, and the well rounded and relatable characters and their intense love story kept me trapped in the pages of this book!

The suspense found throughout the story, the thrilling murder investigation, and the well rounded and relatable characters and their intense love story kept me trapped in the pages of this book!

Lauren, in a moment of pure courageousness (or if you asked her mother pure selfishness), finds herself hurt and looking into the eyes of the man she's been dreaming about for years. Max is the paramedic that saves her life, moments after she risks it for a little boy. Max is her destiny. It sounded silly to me at first, I mean for her to know she is supposed to be with him. But, it works, very well. Max is Lauren's knight in shining armor, and it is obvious even after the short amount of time they are together that they are meant to be together. They have a fast paced romance that made me fall in love with their tale.

There are quite a few secondary characters that are worth a second look, Nancy does a great job perfectly molding each character from her talent with words. Amanda, a reporter, is probably the one (besides Lauren and Max of course) that I was impressed with most. There's more in the background of her story that I'd like to know, and Nancy could probably write a book on her life as well. Then there's Seth. Seth is Lauren's best friend, and he thinks that Lauren should be his, and she was, until Max enters the picture. From the very beginning I didn't like Seth. He's not a bad character or anything I just found him sickeningly attached to Lauren, giving the initial events in the novel I guess it makes sense, but he's no Max. When Seth finds the one he's supposed to be with I blew a sigh of relief.

There is a bit of insta-love instilled in this book. Max and Lauren's relationship is short but strong, and one thing I noticed a few times was that their arguments (which to me they argued quite frequently) seemed to self resolve. I don't know how to explain it, but it seemed like one minute Max would be fuming about something and then all of a sudden it was over.

The author blends in the perfect amount of paranormal aspects into this story to make the events seem real and believable.

The stunning relationship that evolves in Meeting Destiny between Lauren and Max is magical. They are a great couple. I can't wait to read more of their story and the events that unfold in the series. The story is fast moving and full of the mystery and suspense that keeps me coming back for more. Fans of Nicole Williams' Eternal Eden series, Lauren Kate's Fallen series, and My Name is Memory by Ann Brashares are sure to love this one! Book 2, Destiny's Revenge, will definitely be a great read, one I will have to check out!(less)

I love this book. Its a great story that is interesting from page 1. I couldn't wait to get from page to page. It was a much better than I expected based on the cover...but I heard that the cover might be changing so I'm excited to see what comes of that. Lauren is a college student who is in tune with her intuition. She listens to her "gut" in her life and follows the feelings she has, and they never have led her astray. From the first page, this book was really entertaining. It did hit a lull for a while but picked up again.

I was really torn on how to rate this book. There were so many things I liked (her ability to "sense" things and people, the danger, the way the "romance" started). But I felt like there was something missing from Lauren and Max's relationship. I would have liked to see more "real" interaction between them. I felt most of their conversations were more awkward than romantic.

Absolutely LOVED this book! You are brought into Lauren's life with a bang... within 3 pages I was hooked. The story is fast paced and very interesting. There is of course Destiny...but there is mystery, major relationship changes, and such swoon worthy moments! You will keep on the edge of your seat.

In fact Lauren tries to always blend in and do what is expected.....until one fateful day changes everything. One day while at work in a restaurant Lauren foils a robbery attempt and ends up getting shot in the process. On the way to the hospital she looks up into the eyes of the medic and realizes this is the man of her dreams...literally.
For several years prior to the shooting Lauren has the same dream. Haunted by a pair of green eyes that refer to her as his destiny. Now she knows everything she has dreamt and felt has validity. Her destiny has a name, and his name is Max. As she starts her recovery, Lauren starts to take control of her life. First, she dumps Seth. He was more of a safety net than a real boyfriend. Next she begins to embrace the feelings she has had all her life...ones bordering between those of precognition and empathy. Finally, she opens herself to a chance at love with Max. If only things were that simple....
This book was amazing. I was hooked from the first page and it continues throughout the whole book. I love Lauren. She is so awesome. Standing up to your family is hard, and being bold enough to go against the grain and go your own path is fearless. Max is absolutely amazing as well. Who doesn't love a man who is strong and manly, but able to show his feelings? I know I do. The way the author draws us in to Laurens inner feeling and her battles within herself is just beautifully written. You feel as if it is your own emotions in turmoil. Another awesome point is Lauren isn't perfect! She makes mistakes and second guesses herself. She also doesn't have all the answers. It is so refreshing to see a character that actually is portrayed with human characteristics. I love love love it.
Normally I can find something to give my feedback on what I didn't like or what I feel could be better....well that is not the case here. The editing is awesome. No misspellings or freaky punctuation. Characters are well developed , loveable and believable. The story is fast paced and draws the reader in. All in all this is a must read and an absolute home run. I am on to book 2. I will admit as I have read the author's other series I had very high expectations here and it has surpassed every single one of them!!!!(less)

Meeting Destiny is a wonderful book. I enjoyed the book and the characters. I was very happy that I did not have to wait for the second book. I came in to the love of all things Nancy Straight after she had already finished book 2. I did however have to wait for book 3, but it was worth it.

Oh my goodness; this story was so good! The story, the plot itself, was really suspenseful and unpredictable, which I like, and everything that happened just seemed right. I don't have any complaints; but what I will say is that by the end, you definitely will want more, you just will. Good thing the second and third book in this series are already out, as I really grew attached to the story, and the characters, so the rest of the series is on my list to read; most definitely!

I'm not sure if maybe I have different tastes, or if I read some completely different book, but I didn't feel riveted by this book. Honestly I really didn't like the main character, she came off as entitled and (excuse my language) bitchy. I think Straight tried too hard to justify the need for an attitude and a need to distance her from her (sort of) boyfriend and mother.

First off, I want to comment on the beautiful cover for this book! I love the way her hair is done with the curls and flowers - so pretty! I just think that the cover makes a really good first impression on the reader.

I got this as a freebie from Amazon for Kindle.

Let me first say that the "Protectors", "Instigators", "Anarchists", "Tempters", and "Mates" thing is pretty fucking cool. I was so excited about it. But not long after we learn about it, we don't hear about it again. I would have liked to experience a bit more of what that was all about.

I have two serious complaints: the romance and the ending.

Meeting Destiny was such a fun read. It had a bit of everything that you want in a book. The was supernatural bits, close friends, romance, love and heart racing moments. There were a couple different ways that I pictures this book and truth be told it kind of went a little of each way.

To be honest, I thought this would be just like other YA books like Fallen and Evermore but once I started, I didn't care. Meeting Destiny is more convincing, in some ways than the other.
Meeting Destiny follows the events leading to Lauren's meeting of her destiny, Max. They meet when Lauren is shot while mitigating a robbery at the fast food place where she works. I really wanted to give this book five stars but really I could barely bring myself to give it the four star rating. It starts off exciting yet it gets to be quite confusing. It starts to become clearer as the book goes along but I felt like the author sort of just jumped right in and I was trying to puzzle out what was happening. Looking past that, I had an issue with the main character. I felt like the character had too much common sense to pursue her relationship the way she did. I get that you either have a connection with a person or you don't but this felt rushed. Despite these things I pushed through the book. There's just something about this book that made me keep reading even if it was only out of curiosity of what would happen next. Boy am I glad I continued to read. Lauren despite her leaping head first into relationships actually kept this book flowing. Usually I get bored with characters like her but somehow...It just worked. This book really surprised me. It seems to be centered around her and her destiny but right towards the end of the book the author puts a twist you would never believe and oh man did I have mixed feelings about it. One moment I was like "Gah! Right when I was starting to get a hang of this book you had to throw this at me!" Then the next I was thinking "I really want the next book just so I can find out what happens!". Then I was trying to decide how I accidently fell in love with a book that I hated at first. My reason for being iffy about giving it even the four star rating was...I hated this book from the start..But! When I finished the book I was able to go from hating it into loving it. This book has it's minor problems for me to where the characters and the relationships between them annoyed me to no end. I am not disappointed that I have read this book in the least. It just goes to show that some books, despite disliking them in the beginning, can turn into little gems. As a warning this book does take a little bit of patience to read but it is worth dragging through.(less)

I cannot express how much I have enjoyed this book! I have read quite a few lately that I have not been able to connect to, so this was a great surprise!

The book starts off with Lauren at work. Her boyfriend,

Meeting Destiny by Nancy Straight

This book was a lot different that I expected and it was a very pleasant surprise to say the least.

The written description of the book had me thinking this was going to be more of a young adult romance read with some paranormal elements thrown in. I orignally put this back on the "Maybe I will read it" list and went to read another book. I orignally put this back on the "Maybe I will read it" list and went to read another book. I really don't read young adult books, most of them do not catch or hold my attention and I did not expect much from this one either.

I finished another book I was reviewing and then looked for something to read and picked this up again. I was on the second page when the action started rolling and it did not stop until the very end. I read it in one sitting, something I do not do unless the book is really good, and this one was really good.

Lauren Davis works for the local burger shop. Her long-time friend, Seth, drops by to get a salad and check on her ride home. Then a man comes in that makes Lauren pay attention, he didn't look right, like he was there for no good. And he was, he was robbing the shop. She had made excuses to get everyone out of the way and tried to get him tended to and out the door but a kid comes back to demand a toy and the robber swings to shoot him. Lauren puts herself in front of the bullet and she meets the man of her dreams, the man she has called her Destiny, Max Meyer.

There is a lot of back and forth with Max not wanting to interfere in her life, and misunderstandings with her friend Seth, her mother, Seth's mother, and others. It sometimes seems like everyone is trying to run Lauren's life, including a woman on a bus who talks to Lauren by telepathy and says she's watching her, and to stick to her path.

Lauren seems to be a trouble magnet. The police begin to be on a first name basis with her. Things happen around and to her and she always seems to be able to pick up on what's going on before it happens. And always, Max is there to hold her and help her think things through even though she sometimes fights that.

This book has a lot of very good story lines going through it. I actually cared about Lauren, I really liked Max. I sometimes wanted to smack Seth and sometimes I wanted to hug him.

And Nancy Straight has two more Destiny books out, which is good because where she left this one had me so flustered, wanting more, I'm ready to go get the next book right now and spend the rest of the night reading it. Yes, it's that good.(less)
