Jack’s story in Finally a Bride was worth the wait. It's the tale of grown up Jacqueline (Jack) Davis who now wears dresses and looks like a lady, but still acts like the 10 yr old tomboy we met in the first book of this series. Consider the opening… Jack is after a story and climbs on the mayor’s roof to eavesdrop on his conversation with two strangers. No, I won’t tell you if she accomplishes her mission, but I will say pain is involved. Because she’ll do anything to uproot the truth.

This book was SOOOO cute! I'm officially a Vickie McDonough fan, even if I can't pronounce McDonough.... ;)

This story takes place in 1896, 10 years after the last book, and Jacqueline (Jack) Davis is now a 20-year-old investigative reporter for the Lookout Ledger who wants to make it big in Dallas. But when a new, young pastor, Noah Jeffers, comes to town, what will happen to her dreams and aspirations? And what will Jack do when she finds out the truth of Noah's past? The third novel in the Boarding House Brides series and one that takes up the action nearly 10 years after Second Chance Brides. Jack--Jaqueline Davis--has now grown from a gangly, mischievious kid into a beautiful woman who has determined that she will never marry and take a chance on entrusting her life to a man like her father. The only man she has even come close to trusting is her step-father, Luke Dave, the town marshall. Enter Noah Jeffers, the new minister who is tall, handsome, muscular...more

Noah, the new preacher in Lookout, Texas, hides a secret that draws investigative reporter, Jack (Jacqueline) like a bee to honey. Or does something else attract her to the handsome man? Jack shies away from that question. Even with the influence of a wonderful stepfather, old hurts inflicted by her biological father still wound Jack. How can she trust any man? And yet, Noah seems kind, gentle and trustworthy. What can he possibly be hiding?

I have thoroughly enjoyed Vickie McDonough's Boardinghouse Brides series, and this final installment was by far my favorite. Jaqueline "Jack" Davis has been the highlight of each book with her rambunctious, tomboy ways. What a treat to see her all grown up with that rambuctious streak only slightly dimmed. She still finds scrapes to get into and conclusions to jump to, but this time there's a handsome man to catch her when she falls.

Noah Jeffers is a hero with a heart for God and a past to atone...more

Jacqueline “Jack” Davis doesn’t need a man in her life. After years of suffering abuse at the hands of her biological father, Jack won’t allow herself to dream of a life filled with a husband and children. This is further demonstrated by Jack’s need to constantly fend off the amorous advances of local wild-child Billy Morgan, who is determined to make Jack his wife.

Jack’s goal is to get out of the idyllic town of Lookout and to become a reporter in Dallas. A story on the shady doings of the tow...more

Keep your eyes wide open for romance in Lookout, Texas. Jody Chapman, aka Butch Laird, returns to town determined to make up for past misdeeds. Will reporter Jacqueline Hamilton uncover his secret before Jody can capture her heart? With nowhere else to go, ex-con Carly Payton returns to the Lookout boardinghouse. Garrett Corbett is looking for an upstanding wife, not some jailbird. What will he do when overpowered by Carly’s appeal? Twice-widowed Christine Taylor isn’t looking to get re-hitched....more

Another great book in the Texas Boardinghouse Series by Vickie McDonough. Finally a Bride is the third book in the series and it was my favorite out of all three. This story is about 10 years after the previous book, Second Chance Brides. It still has all the favorite characters in it like The Davis' and the Corbett brothers but they also brought back Carly Payton, the criminal fake mail-order-bride that was in the first book. This book is about Jack Davis who is now in her 20's and is working f...more

I loved this story and was happy to read it. Jacqueline who goes by the name of Jack to everyone but her mom, is a reporter for the local paper. Her dream is to get the "big" story and get a job as a reporter in Dallas. When Noah Jeffers arrive in town to fill in for the preacher, all heads turn. Jack and Noah have a strange relationship starting and Jack knows there is a big story hidden within Noah. Little does she know how close she is.

I read books to be entertained; to be encouraged about life and the belief that there is a hope and a future. I like books that feature heroes and heroines that are trying to live by traditional Christian values, even if they fail to reach the goal 100% of the time. Too many books today have given up on traditional values; instead, accepting failure as normal. There’s no hope that we humans can do better.

Vickie McDonough doesn’t accept this premise. She writes books that not only entertain, but...more

What a delightful story! Vickie McDonough treats her readers to a remarkable conclusion to the Boardinghouse Brides trilogy. The back cover copy calls it a tale of redemption, and it’s that and more. Mixing humor with drama, McDonough gives the “bad boys” (and girls) of the previous two books a chance at love. Finally a Bride is a heartwarming story of two couples struggling to overcome their pasts as they build a future filled with faith and love. Note: Although this is the last of the trilogy,...more

Vickie McDonough is one of those authors who can do it all. She made me laugh, she moved me with sympathy, and she had me totally engrossed in this story of three romances-in-one. Jack is the headstrong daughter of Rachel from the first book in the Boardinghouse Brides series. She falls head over heals for the new preacher in town, except that the new preacher isn't really all that new to town. . . Noah has a secret. He not only used to live in Lookout, Texas, but he was the town's former school...more

Finally it’s here! Jack’s story is a hoot. McDonough let her grow up but she kept her rascally personality intact.
Even jailbird Carly is back—her story though small was important to me from the other books and I’m glad to know what happens with her.
Butch, Jack’s nemesis turns up in an unexpected way as well.
This is the last book in the Boarding House Brides series (you don’t need the others first but you’ll be missing some good reading if you don’t get them!) and it’s sad to let the character...more

Vickie McDonough's third book in the Boardinghouse Brides trilogy is possibly her best yet. Written with humor, charm, and no shortage of sweet romance, FINALLY A BRIDE tells the story of the grown-up "Jack," daughter of Rachel, the heroine of the first book, THE ANONYMOUS BRIDE. Jack is as spunky as ever, finding new ways to get herself into (and out of) trouble while trying in vain to resist her attraction to the new preacher, Noah Jeffers. Other familiar characters also return, including Carl...more

I've read all three of The Boardinghouse Bride series and if you've read the other two you'll LOVE this one. Finally a Bride was a fun story. I think this one just may be my favorite. Maybe it's because I felt like I already knew everyone. Vickie McDonough did a great job with bringing the hero and heroine to life. Fall in love with Jack all grown up. See her struggle with what is really important in life and have to make some life changing decisions. I loved Noah and felt his frustration. He is...more

My favorite book of this seris. I read this book in 3 days. I figured out who Noah was when he was first introduced in the book and was cheering on his and Jack developing relationship throughout the entire book. Also I really did not like Carly in the first book, but in this book I loved her. Glad the author brought her back and showed us how God can turn someones life completely around if we would just let him!!! A must read if you love the western themed Christian novel. But you must read the...more

"Jack" Davis, reporter for the Lookout Ledger, is willing to go to any length to get her story. Didn't she climb up on the mayor's roof in hopes of nabbing the mayor's news? When Noah Jeffers rolls into town, Jack feels as though the new pastor is trying to hide something and for the life of her, she can't put her finger on why he looks so familiar. Unknown to Jack, Noah is biding his time, making restitution for the trouble he caused years ago, but slowly falling in love with the ornery Jack.

Finally a Bride is a story brimming with romance. Jacqueline “Jack” Davis harbors ambitions to leave tiny Lookout, Texas, for a career as a reporter in Dallas. When a new pastor arrives in town, she believes if she can get the scoop on his past, the resulting story will propel her straight to the big city. What she hadn’t counted on was her growing attraction to the handsome preacher.

This was a nice, fun read that finished out the Texas Boardinghouse Brides series very neatly.

I enjoyed that the fact that the main characters were actually introduced as children in the very first book of the series. It was interesting to read about them all grown up and falling in love themselves.

I also liked reading more about Carly, an out-law who made an appearance in the first book of the series but had served her time in jail and was now facing the difficulties that her past brings.

Yay! I get to finally read about Jack and Noah (Butch)!! From reading the description, I knew exactly who Noah was and found their story rivaling Shannon and Mark's. Once again, I loved the changes in POV that provided the necessary depth in the characters, making it personal for the reader as well. The only thing was that I thought Carly and Garret's story was a little rushed at the end... I would've enjoyed 'seeing' a little more contact between them. Otherwise, this was a great read and I wis...more

Jack’s back!

Having read the first two offerings in this author’s Texas Boardinghouse Brides series, I had already fallen in love with young Jacqueline Davis (aka Jack Hamilton). The tomboyish child is all grown up in Finally a Bride, and dreams of snagging a job as a reporter in Dallas and shaking the dust of Lookout, Texas off her feet.

Then Noah Jeffers comes to town to fill in for the minister. He’s young. He’s handsome. And he’s hiding a secret that could destroy any chance of a relationship...more

Jacqueline “Jack” is now 10 years older and all grown up. She wants to be a reporter for the big city of Dallas but first feels like she needs a big story for her small down of Lookout to get there. She is still the tomboy you know and love from the first two books but she is now a woman. She is hot on the trail of the Mayor as she feels he is hiding something for the city and she will do just about anything to get the story.

Noah finds himself back in Lookout now as the preacher not the troublem...more

Fun, romantic book! Vickie McDonough has such a grand sense of humor. Rarely does a book make me laugh, but she succeeded with this story. The characters are unique and lovable and the story is funny, witty, charming and romantic. It would be best if you've read the prior 2 books in the series, but not necessary. Definitely another winner from Ms. McDonough!

In this 3rd book in the series it is 10 years later. Carly(one of the mail-order brides sortof) returns to Lookout and worries how she will be received. Guess what....Garrett is still single. Noah also returns to Lookout as the preacher and Jack hasn't figured out who he really is.

Definitely my favorite in the Boardinghouse Brides series! I enjoyed all three books but this one really kept me reading when I should have been doing other things! Jack's romance had the perfect amount of romantic tension with a villain thrown in for alittle suspense. I will be watching for Vickie McDonough's next book!

As a huge fan of Christian westerns, I've read over 150 books in this genre and the Boardinghouse Brides series ranks in my top 5! I loved the characters and the way they evolved throughout the series. You can't go wrong getting to know the folks in the town of Lookout!
