I wasn't terribly impressed with the first book, but I was interested enough in the characters to want to read more. I am so glad I did!

This book seemed more realistically teenaged-girl, both the good and bad. The girls had to face things in their lives that they could avoid as children, and came out stronger.

I am going to start with the summer of Bridget she is my favorite character. Bridget finds out that her grandma from mom’s side has been writing all this past years and her father didn’t tell her. She is going to visit her grandma but not directly, she is going name herself Gilda for no one to realize that she is Bridget, she used to go to Alabama all the time when she was little that is why she hides her real name. She is going to work in her grandmother’s house and investigate about her mother; she is going to help Greta fix the attic. Everything comes out just they way she wanted it but her grandma realizes that she is her granddaughter and lets her stay at her house. Bridget finds herself again this summer; she starts playing soccer again and also finds friends from when she was little. Lena is another member from the sisterhood, This summer she is very depressed she misses her ex-boyfriend Kostos who she met the past summer in Greece when she went to visit her grandmother. She thinks Kostos has a girlfriend and that he has forgotten her. One day she hears the door bell, it was Kostos she didn’t now why he was there. He told her that he was there for university and that made Lena more depressed because it meant that he didn’t even cared for her, because he had come all the way from Greece and he didn’t even called her. One night Lena went to visit Kostos; she needed to talk to him, she explained all her feelings and then Kostos said that she didn’t have a girlfriend and that he still loved her. He made her very happy with those words; the bad thing is that Kostos needs to go back to Greece because of a family problem. At the end of the summer Lena goes to Greece becuase her grandfather died and she finds out that Kostos is getting married. Tibby is also a member of the sisterhood, she loves to make movies. This summer she went to a summer school of film making and she is suppose to do a movie. She makes a movie about the most embarrassing moments of her mom and after they present it she regrets it. She feels bad with her mom. But then she made a movie of the great moments she passed with her friend Bailey who died last summer, she made a great movie. Carmen didn’t have a great summer she fitted with her mom a lot because her mom was dating and obsessed with David and Carmen didn’t liked it. so far i really enjoy this book! it is one of my favorites<3 i would recommend it to Lady's 13 and up, because there are some things that are just not for younger people! once you read this book it will just remind you of friendship,love,compassion,relationships, and so much more! this book is just really touching! hope you like my review and i hope you read this book!

I read this book because I liked the first one so much. Also, the teaser at the end of the first book was pretty interesting.

I liked it when I finished it but thinking about it, I am a little disappointed. It seems that the major flaws that the girls had in the first book still afflict them in this one. I've read this book 15 years ago, would've help me trough my teenage life and how to embrace adulthood with all of the pain and sorrow..., This books show you that it is ok to make mistake as long as you have the guts to admit it and try to correct it as best as u can...

There are four girls in this book who share a pair of pants. The girls were all different sizes and shapes, yet the pants fit each of them. Before the traveling pants, the girls did not have any other way of being together when they were apart, so the pants brought them closer together whenever they could not contact each other.

So I have read the entire series, and not just this book, but this is definitely my favorite one of the series. In every book, but especially in this one, are there discoveries, romance and intense friendship. Really, it's the story of the ordinary run-of-the-mill lives of four suburban friends but the impeccable style of writing, filled with metaphors and poignancy, makes them more than regular teen books. I wouldn't recommend them for one certain age.

Really, it's the story of the ordinary run-of-the-mill lives of four suburban friends but the impeccable style of writing, filled with metaphors and poignancy, makes them more than regular teen books. I wouldn't recommend them for one certain age.
Brashares' talent really seems to lie in her building of characters. The traits in each of the four heroines were so strong that in every book you think, "welcome back. I know you." If one of the characters does something drastic, you never have to wonder if she would really, realistically do something like that. You can imagine Lena's anxiety in sneaking to Kostos in the dead of night to proves she loves him, because you know it's something drastic for her, though maybe not for someone like Bee.
The families were really described well, and you got a clear picture of them. Tibby's parents were once hippies and counteculture types and before they had the other two children and became a normal suburban family. Carmen's mother was divorced and the two of them were living a very girlish life in the apartment with only the two of them until another man came, seeming to fracture their bond. Bee's mother died, and so she lives only with her father, a college professor, and her computer-hooked brother, both very absent and oblivious to the world, so that Bee herself is the only lively thing in her house. Lena's traditional Greek parents are very strict, and her father comes from a long line of restaurant-runners. Compared to her gossipy, chatty sister, Lena is quiet and modest. Her grandmother in Greece has tried many times to hook her up with Greek boys, proud to have a beautiful granddaughter.
I would say my favorite character of the series is Bridget, though she is the exact opposite of me. I think she is the person most people sort of wish they were, someone who rushes into everything without thinking about the consequences. It often gets her into disasters, but it takes her far. She's also blonde, which is a thumbs-up with me. :) I feel like I can sympathize with ALL of the characters, even the ones who are really nothing like me. On redécouvre chacune des filles qui ont bien changé en un an. Depuis l’été précédent, Carmen a accepté la nouvelle famille de son père mais doit faire face à la nouvelle relation de sa mère, Tibby se remet tant bien que mal du sort qui s’acharne et découvre qui elle est réellement, Bridget part à la recherche de ses racines et tente de se retrouver elle-même, Lena ne sait plus très bien où elle en est et tente d’oublier celui qu’elle aime.

My favourite character in this book was Bridget, who got pretty close in the first one, but was beat out by Lena. Carmen and Tibby, though both still lovable, annoyed me a bit in this one.

I'll start off by saying that it wasn't as good as the first book, but what sequel usually is? I got to hand it to the author though that it's still just has well-written and smart and funny as the first one.
But are the characters as likeable? Maybe some are than others. I felt like I enjoyed Bridget's character a lot more in this book, yet I never felt like I really knew what she was going through. I didn't get to really see what was in her mind most of the time.

These books are just so refreshing and have so many valuable lessons to gather. This second book is definitely great and deals with issues that carried on from the first one and also new issues that have surfaced. This book can be a pretty fast read, the language is pretty simple and the story can suck you right in. What is so lovely about this book is that it is so ordinary, so everyday and realistic, but so intriguing. The love that these four girls have for one another is something that keeps you wanting to read and makes you fond of them.
As a reader this book really touched me and it worked as a truly simple and refreshing text. It deals with real, everyday life problems but not in such a crazy and depressing way, and I think that is why it had me going on. These four best friends, Bridget, Tibby, Lena, and Carmen are all so different but connected by their friendship, “magical” pants, and love for each other and that is very inspiring. Bridget, the soccer fanatic who falls for a coach, is an outgoing character full of life. In this book she seems to have lost some of this spark because of issues from the previous book, but by the end she finds herself. Tibby, the filmmaker, kind of a spunky/rocky kid is probably one of the most rebellious of the four. Lena, the quiet, sweet, shy girl, deals with issues of love and loss. Carmen, the sensitive, sort of teddy bear of the best friends, deals with a divorce. This text is better suited for girls, since it mainly focuses on girls and their issues, family related, life, and boys.
As a teacher this book would most likely not be taught unless it was an all girl school because as mentioned previously it is a pretty girlie book that boys would most likely not get interested in. But, if the possibility was ever given or if it was an all girl school I would definitely want to teach this book. It truly is a fascinating book, in fact the whole series is really neat. They all deal with really important and real issues, and something great is being able to see the way these four best friends develop and grow with every passing book. This is going to be a book that will be in my private library for my female students to read. It really is a great book, with valuable life lessons. This book is the perfect book that demonstrates friendship, unconditional love, falling in love, loss, identity, and coming of age. I would recommend this book to girls and mothers!

Carmen was hoping to have a summer filled with fun with her friends, but everyone ended up doing there own thing. Tibby went off to make a new movie, and she was dealing with the whole fitting in and making new friends. Bridget went to Alabama to meet with her grandmother who she thinks does not remember her. Lena was the only one who really was around to talk with Carmen, but she was dealing with a heart break of Kostos, then when he makes a surprise visit something tragic happens and her and her family are sent back to Greece. When she gets there she comes to find very interesting but shocking news that made a large change in her life. The girls go all summer dealing with all their big issues, and how their lives changed so fast, and for most of them they were not happy with parts of the change. Carmen had it the hardest, she was stuck at home, and even her mom was not respecting her because she ends up with the pants.
I have really enjoyed these books, I read the series a-couple years ago but I wanted to give it another shot. My grandmother was actually the one to get me into them. I enjoyed this second one more than the first because it moved much faster through events, and it didn’t seem like the timeline went on forever. This book gave you so much detail, and you never get bored with it. The author used different paragraphs to talk about what the girls were up to, and that was fun because it was not hard to read and try to figure out what was really going on. The way she wrote the book was easy to understand because she did not really jump from scene to scene, it was in like a timeline and it was easy to keep up with. She also found ways to really have you get a picture in your head or make you feel what the girls were feeling. That makes reading a lot easier because you do not get as confused. I would say any girl would enjoy this book, I feel teens would like this more because its about small love stories and problems that girls at a young age may deal with. I would recommend these series though!
I would rate this book a 4 out of 5. I give it a 4 out of 5 because it is a an enjoyable book, but it was nothing I would read more than maybe 4 times. It is a book that tells a great story, makes you really think of what is going on, gives you pictures throughout your head and its a book that you can really understand! Also I enjoyed being able to connect many other books, situations and things that may actually happen a lot. I enjoy books like this because its something that makes it so you never want to put the book down, or when you start to read you can just finish it without being bugged. These styles of books is something I like to read, and its probably my favorite type of plot. I am into teen love, teen problems and just a time line. If you are into anything with young love, fights, deaths and even surprises that will really shock you. I would say you should read this book! This was a very good book, and I hope if you decide to read it you enjoy it also!(less)

The main issue of this book is that all these friends are being separated for the summer. They're best friends and use a pair of pants to keep them together.

The setting contributes a lot to the story. The setting means a lot cause it goes through to all the girls in where they are and they'd be in different situations if they were in different settings.

There are four main characters. Their names are, Carmen, Bridget, Tibby, and Lena. They each have their own antagonists in this story.

This book was okay. As with the first book, I feel like they didn't develop the characters at all and I didn't really understand why they do what they did. These books also relies on assuming a lot, which I hate. It's one thing where you can see it on TV or the movies and assume, but reading is a lot different. Just like chatting and email sometimes, it's hard to get attitude out of it, these books remind me of that.

Just like chatting and email sometimes, it's hard to get attitude out of it, these books remind me of that.

Lena writes the introduction this time and her story is about her and her fling from the summer before, Kostos. I guess they dated long distance most of the year and broke up around January, but apparently it's still bugging her. He comes to the States from Europe for the summer and just shows up and they start up really hot and heavy before he just leave suddenly and goes back to Greece. Apparently he knocked up some girl he was with after he and Lena "broke up". She was devastated.

Carmen has issues with her mother dating. She doesn't like that it is not just the two of them anymore and takes it out in a very mean way.

Tibby goes to some film program at college. She tries to fit in and make friends with "the cool kids" but when her friend Brian shows up, she is embarrassed to be with him. She makes a first film about her mother, which makes fun of her a lot and when her entire family shows up at the festival to surprise Tibby, she gets embarrassed and for her final project, does it on her friend that died in the last book. The part about this situation that annoyed me, is that the school and the program she did at a college totally reminded me of CalArts, a program I did when I was in high school. In the book, Tibby just got to leave for days at a time, have people over that where not in the program and no one even cared. You should have seen the shit we where not allowed to do at CalArts, because we where in high school, as Tibby was supposed to be at all. Since we where all under 18 (and even if you weren't!) you had to abide by the rules like you where. They had to know where you where at all times. The book was so so fake, in that area.

Bridget had a hard year after she got back from soccer camp. She changed a lot and didn't do sports anymore. For the summer, she went down to Alabama where her grandmother (her mother's mother) lived. Her mom died a few years back and her father cut off all contact with his deceased wife's family. But Bee wanted to know. So she lied to her grandmother about being a drifter and worked in her house, cleaning for the summer. So lame. Of course, the grandmother knew after a while and Bee met up with some of her childhood summer friends, because her family would come to Alabama every summer when she was a kid and started playing soccer again.

To sum it up, entertaining, but lame.

The 2nd Summer of the Sisterhood was an alright book. I didn’t read any of the other books in the series so I cannot compare them. The cover wasn’t as intriguing as it could’ve been. I basically lost all of my respect for Lena, even though I did feel bad for her. Once and Kostos got back together, I was disappointed that all they did was make-out and all Lena wanted from him was sex. Even though Kostos does marry someone else in the end, I felt like Lena and Kostos only had physical attraction, and I miss the relationship they had in the first book. Carmen's story was pretty much the same exact story that she had last book, but with her mom. Listen, Carmen, I get you have a bad temper and I get that you're a turbulent teenager, but seriously? Must you act like you're 3 years old? She just gets on my nerves throughout the story, I don't care how repentant she is in the end, she just comes off as bratty who feels bad about the stuff she does but does them anyway. Tibby's story was my absolute favorite in the last book because it was so full of emotion and beautiful characters and incredible lessons. And this time around, it was really, really boring. The author spent hardly any time on Tibby, and she attempted to make it deep full of life lessons, but kind of failed. It didn't even come close to the Baily/Tibby story in the first book. Now Bee's story was the best story and the only good one in the book. I really came to enjoy Bee's character and I actually wished that Bee's story was focused on more then, say, Lena's or Carmen's. Bee is definitely my favorite in this book.

As for the author's writing, I just felt it was so immature and pathetic this time around. I felt like Brashares was thinking, "Oh, well, the first book was already a success, so I don't really have to try to make this one good at all." I felt like Brashares had so many opportunities to make this a beautiful and touching book, but failed. There were moments when I was like, "Oh, I liked that thought a lot," but they were few and in between. Brashares only talent is her knack for entertaining and realistic dialogue. Otherwise, she was lacking tremendously in descriptions and other writing skills. Loved the first book, very disappointed with the second, not too sure I'll read the next.(less)
